I've been to see Declyn at Salon Ultimo 3x now for a cut/color, and I am very happy with the results. I used to color my own hair and go to one of the budget hair cut locations, which did a good job while and met my needs for years. However being a woman in my later 50's and concerned over my aging hair, I finally decided to go to a pro salon initially to get a professional cut/color to see if would be better, and it's a resounding YES. It's a bit more $$, but the cut/color results are 10X better than when I did it myself. Declyn figured out cut that fits me on the first visit and with my thinning hair, the light bob works great with a well layered cut that has given me some volume again on top that I can play with...as some may say, it's all in the cut. I love red, and she tried a couple different colors and by the 3rd time she hit it spot on...it's red & it's sexy! The color is solid and doesn't rinse out or come out on my clothes/bedding like the OTC color would...I love it. She also recommended the Surface 'Awaken' products for thinning hair, I get the Awake Mask and treatment with my cut/color, and I'm happy with the improvements to my hair. Again, all this costs a bit more than when I was coloring it myself with a $15 cut, but the improvement is tremendous, I look better, it gives me a boost to my self-esteem, and that's worth it. Also, check out their NailTek products to protect and repair your nails, in particular the #3 for hard brittle nails or #4 for weak, thin nails; good products. The salon is nicely designed, comfortable space, though the noise level is a bit high...the sounds of talk and hair dryers can be hard to talk/hear through. They are doing some redesign of the space (2Q/21) and hope they have taken some sound attenuation measures in the remodel. My suggestion is to employ some passive sound attenuation like acoustic panels or fabrics mounted/hanging in the ceiling to capture some of the sound. The space is all hard surfaces, wood floor, cabinets, open hard ceilings, windows...and the sound bounces all over never getting absorbed by anything. Active Noice Reduction (ANR) is another way (but more $) to manage in particular the sound of hair dryers, and this would be the best method for that narrow band of sound. It's not terrible, but it's something I wish more retails spaces would address. read more

I followed Ebonie to Salon Ultimo from another establishment where I'd been seeing her for years. After seeing someone elsewhere recently due to scheduling needs, I will never see anyone other than Ebonie again. She has the magic touch! I don't know what she does but her waxes are definitely less painful than other specialists I have seen. She always cleans up my eyebrows without making them too thin, which is exactly what I like. She finds the perfect amount of sideburn to wax off, and very kindly mentioned I had just a couple of hairs on my chin she could get. She really listens to her clients and has great attention to detail so that I always walk away looking flawless! She also gets bikini waxes done in fewer passes so my skin does not get irritated. She takes great care to look and make sure not a single hair was left behind. I've never had anyone else tweeze my legs! Her eye for precision means I don't have to worry about those pesky short hairs that waxing can miss. She ensures I leave looking and feeling smooth! The Salon is very nice and has a warm atmosphere, figuratively and literally. The temperature is always comfortable and the tables have warmers on them, which is a great touch! Nevertheless, the prices are very reasonable compared to other places. (Please don't raise them because I said that!) So you can get a spa experience for a little less than you would pay at somewhere like European Wax Center. You also get a very nice welcome gift your first time in, which includes a number of coupons to encourage you to try the myriad of services the salon has to offer. Friendly staff. My hair cuts always turn out well. My hair looks shiny and is soft every time. They seem to know what works best on my hair.

I just left after getting a haircut. $55 for 30 minutes and stylist was terrific. Will see her again I went to pay and person checking me out asked me three times in 30 seconds (no exaggeration) how I was paying for my tip. the very FIRST thing she said to me was 'and how will you be paying for your tip?". she never said "ok, that will be $55" or "how is your day going". I was all about tip. i told her I had a credit on my account ( this was a gift card), she said 'we will take the tip out of this'. Aren't tips optional? I was (and did) going to tip stylist. I had enough and told her 'hold on. do not ask me for a tip. if you ask me how much my tip is or how am I paying for my tip, going forward there will be no tip. I find this very offensive and rude '. I paid bill and tip and left. I'm sure she thinks I'm a b$&@! but I'm over this. they have done this in front of other clients. Management needs to address this as it only hurts stylist read more

Normally I would have said that this salon is fantastic. However, there have been 3 incidents now that have left me wondering if I will be using this Salon "forever". The first incident happened when I had a manicure there. The polish came off just two days after I had the manicure. I had done nothing to cause it. I called and explained what happened and was advised to come back in for a replacement. The second incident was yesterday. I received a phone call that I had missed my appointment for that morning. I looked at the appointment card I had received after the last appointment. (Good thing I got one!) The appointment card I had said the appointment card was for the very NEXT day, not that day! I told her that, and she looked it up. Sure enough, the appointment was for the next day. The other thing that really annoyed me was that my appointment for Dec. 12 had been CANCELLED! She reinstated that appointment. She stated that 'somebody sure messed this appointment up"! No kidding. And yet another incident coming... And the 3rd incident was this morning!! One of the "managers" had cancelled both my appointment for today and the one for Dec. 12, because I didn't have a CC on file. WHAT? I've had several appointments there now! The only way they even ALLOW appointments is if they have a CC on file. Plus I had just had a facial, makeover, and pedicure on the same day in June! So obviously they have a CC on file. I got a text message from the salon. I have been asked to not return to the salon. Apparently they don't like negative reviews. I loved this salon, but there have been a few incidents that I didn't like. It's sad, because I really did love going there. Be very careful about your reviews if you want to come here! read more

I had some time to kill and Woodbury this afternoon, so in the morning, I called the salon to see if there were any openings for a pedicure. Thankfully Kao had had a cancellation. Score for me! The pedicure room has three chairs. Including me, only two chairs were filled. They dim the lights and the technicians use a bright lamp. I don't always find a pedicure, relaxing, but in this setting it was wonderful! I will definitely visit this salon again, and I would absolutely recommend Kao for a pedicure read more

All of the staff were extremely friendly, greeted me as soon as I walked in the door, and even offered me something to drink while I waited for my appointment. Super thoughtful. I would HIGHLY recommend Declyn for a men's cut. She was extremely personable and definitely has passion for what she does. I got a pedicure here for National Vet Tech Week! One of our partners at work sponsored some events and I was able to get one scheduled here. This place is a lot bigger on the inside! There is a small upstairs for nails. The lady who did mine was very nice, very quiet and kind. I've never gone to get my toes done alone so that was new. She did a great job and I would go to her again but my chair wasn't the most comfy and the salon noise from downstairs was very loud. Don't go here! I got my hair permed at Salon Ultimo with Cara today...It's not like I wasn't open to this business, I could easily have become a loyal customer if treated right, even though I only went there because I got $100 gift card for this overpriced place. I doubt they even care what I say on this review because they were rude right from the start and they have that "if you don't like us then too bad" attitude here. When I went in and scheduled my appointment they said they had a long wait...I explained I couldn't wait for 5 weeks to get an appointment! So I asked if I could just return my gift card for the money and go somewhere else...The manager "Chris" told me that I couldn't return the gift card....she was something special let me tell ya! So I sched it, waited 3 weeks, then my stylist was so LATE getting there for my appointment that they had to call me ahead of time and tell me the new time! Of course nothing was offered for this inconvenience...or the fact that the perm took 45 minutes longer than she said it would take so I had people waiting for me that were unhappy... It was $145 for my perm and that didn't even include a trim to dust off the ends...She wanted another $40 for that! NO TRIM INCLUDED WITH A PERM? I was very clear that I wanted a good SPIRAL perm...and I left with a FRIZZY perm!... The best part is not only did I not get a spiral like I asked for, but 3 inches out from the roots has no curl at all - none - so the top of my head is flat and the rest is frizz...! ITS RIDICULOUS! While she was perming my hair, I told her it didn't look like she was using the right kind of rods and I asked her why she was rolling the hair incorrectly and I reminded her I was supposed to be getting a spiral perm! I've gone other places years ago that explained why you use specific rods and roll the hair a certain way if you want a nice spiral curl and this was obviously not being done right but she insisted she was doing right. She didn't even massage when shampooing...I pointed out to her that all the other stylist were massaging their clients...wow. I noticed a review here on yelp that said new customers get a gift bag...? What gift bag? I didn't even get what I overpaid for! From what I can tell this place survives on their old customer base who are blind...there's no review from new customers that are happy. This was my first time at salon ultimo and I was in need of a last minute haircut. I booked online the same-day. Clare was able to do a same-day haircut for me. She was friendly, efficient, and executed everything I wanted. She trimmed my hair with my extensions in and gave me adorable curtain bangs. Having never been to the salon, this exceeded my expectations, especially for a last minute haircut! She was great and I would highly recommend her services. Salon Ultimo is fantastic. It was my first salon visit since Covid19 pandemic restrictions were lifted. They provided a modified space for social distancing and took precautions to protect safety of both employees and clients. There are so many concerns to deal with and procedures may change over time as they decide what is working well of not but I felt they took extra care to make me feel comfortable and helped me through the new requirements. I wore a mask . Hand sanitizers and hand washing was required. They also took my temp and I signed a form about exposure etc. As always Melissa provided great service!! Yes things are different and the social part of the spa experience is reduced but I was glad they found a way to work through the issues facing salons during a pandemic. Salon Ultimo has gone the extra mile to protect their clients and their amazing employees. I wish them the best as they reopen during these difficult times. Very pretty and well taken care for salon. Service was great. I just had a trim on my dead ends. My hair looked a lot better after. The only reason I'm rating 4 stars is because for a 30-40 minute visit to get my split ends trimmed ended up being $60! ($70 with the tip). It is a higher end salon but nothing special was done (just a hair wash, trim and blow dry) to make any of that worth $70. read more

When I was in junior high, Salon Ultimo was *the* place to get your hair cut. The salon itself has hardly changed, so when I walked in earlier this week, I felt 13 again! GETTING AN APPT: They have an online booking system! Love it! http://ultimo.ath.cx/IES/logon.asp Below are the services I've had: I went in for a wax with Julia. Now, I love my waxer at Juut, but she *is* expensive, and honestly, my armpits and legs don't need the same gentle, expensive care as my bikini line :) I did find a lot of wax on my legs when I got home. Pain was average. Irritation was average. I will continue to look for a regular leg/armpit waxer. I really like Katie for manicures. For events, I like a natural looking french manicure, which I've had a hard time getting at cheaper salons, but Katie understood exactly what I wanted, and I'm so pleased by the results. The manicures take a long time - the paraffin manicure took a full hour, and the basic mani takes 45 minutes. The paraffin mani was nice, but not worth the extra $13 (or 15 minutes), in my opinion. Good nail shaping, good cuticle maintenance, good polish application. A basic french mani is $26, so noticeably more expensive than a cheap salon, but still quite a deal, I think. I'll definitely continue to go to her when I have a special event coming up. I won't go to her for regular weekly manis for two reasons - the added cost (an extra ~$10 every week adds up!) and I'm more of an in-and-out kind of girl ( Whereas this salon is more of the pampering type) I've had one hair cut with Kirsten. It was a fine cut, not fantastic, but better than you'd get at a cheap salon. It was $40, which I think is the mid-range for Salon Ultimo. The hair wash was actually a little stressful. the chairs are such that you're almost sitting completely upright in a normal chair. So, as she washed my hair, there were a lot of drips onto my face, into my ears and eyes. read more

Just moved to Woodbury and I was looking for a new salon. Went and saw Kennedi for a quick haircut. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Not only was Kennedi kind and talented, but the overall atmosphere was fantastic. Once we got to the end of the appointment, the part I always dread because of a sales pitch in products, she made her recommendations but in no way did I feel pressured to purchase anything at that moment. I LOVE Salon Ultimo. I have been going there since last September and have not made an appointment anywhere else since. The staff is very nice and accommodating from the time you step into the door until you leave. I always have Cassie do my color and cut, and Molly at the front desk is always super friendly and helpful. Clients are always offered a beverage while waiting or while during service. I just love that you can put your feet up while you wait for your hair color to set, and when you are getting your hair washed! They also feature a very cute boutique and the best of the best hair products around. * I just updated my Rating to 5-star. I was in last week...TWICE. For a foil/cut and a Shellac Manicure. They did their best to get me in on a shorter notice, and make sure that I had my favorite stylist. My hair is great as always, and the Shellac was done phenomenally! Best. Manicure. Ever. I love pedicures but hate manicures. It's one of life's mysteries and one of those personality quirks I may never understand about myself. I do not like manicures because: 1) I'm uncomfortable being touched by strangers, I totally have to psych myself up for it in advance. 2) My hands are high on the list of things I dislike about my body and having them on display makes me nervous. 3) I have weak nails so I usually keep them very, very, very short. When you're already feeling neurotic about being touched by a stranger who starts filing a fingernail that's barely there, it's the skeeviest nails on a chalkboard feeling known to woman. And I'm not even kidding. It sends shivers and chills up my spine and it becomes nearly impossible for me to stop myself from visibly shuddering and cringing away from the person who is convinced they're doing me a service. After having a manicure here, I may have become a convert. It may have helped significantly that I've been protecting my weak nails like it was my JOB for the past couple months in an attempt to grow them out for my wedding. I've never had fake nails and it's a sure thing that I'd end up stabbing myself in the eye ball every morning putting in contacts so I knew I didn't want to go that route. Since this is an Aveda salon, they're big on the natural stuff and don't do fake nails, so that's already a big plus in my book. Hands down, there is nothing more glamorous than a natural French manicure. The products they use are also less smelly and abrasive than what you'll encounter in a normal salon. I wasn't high when I left the salon, so that was also much appreciated. Best of all, the manicure was perfect and looked new for an entire week. It didn't start to chip and look funky until day 8. And it didn't become really ugly until day 11. I'm impressed. read more

Wax with Debbie! A million years ago, okay maybe 12, I got a gift card for a facial and massage at Salon Ultimo. I decided to throw in an eye brow wax as well. That was the beginning. I've tried a bunch of other places for eyebrow waxes, but I always come back to Debbie. She's a perfectionist who really crafts the eyebrows. This is also the only place who has taken great care with my super sensitive skin when getting a lip wax. Most of the waxers are good, but Debbie is great. And at $18 I think it's a deal. I have had tons of pedicures but NONE compare to the Raw Earth Pedicure with Katie. The pedicures are performed in a quiet room overlooking the salon area- there are only 2 pedicure chairs which is a definite plus. I got a gift card for a massage, but this was my first time visiting Salon Ultimo. I scheduled a 60min full body massage with Sara and it was INCREDIBLE! I've had many massages over the years, always from a different place and different person, but I will never go anywhere else after meeting Sara. We agreed that massage therapy is such a great preventative thing for our health and with her 10+ years experience, she was able to explain not only what she was doing, but WHY. She used the perfect pressure so I knew it was working, but wasn't walking out of the salon in pain. The atmosphere is genuinely full of love - as a customer, I have felt like part of the Salon Ultimo family. :) My favorite part of this salon is the camaraderie, as I've gotten cuts from five different stylists (completely without that weird competitive/possessive vibe) - all of which turned out fantastically consistent. I'd classify myself as low maintenance, but still picky... which, I'm sure can be kind of a pain from a stylist's perspective, haha... BUT, I've never been left disappointed. Also, the spa services are just as amazing! The facial I received last year was the best experience I've ever had at a spa. Totally luxurious and my skin glowed for months to come! I just tried this salon out for the first time (I usually go to The Salon a few miles away). Easily the best haircut I've had in years. I got 7.5 inches off and felt confident and awesome the whole time. Clare was so great and helped me craft an idea that would look good with my face and hair texture. I can't wait to go back and get a color treatment. The only thing I miss about my old salon is the free LaCroix, but obviously that's incredibly minor and Salon Ultimo still had water and coffee! Other than that, this is place is NOT what it looks like on the outside - it's anything but a simple strip mall salon. It's spacious, beautifully kept, and relaxing. read more

I really like this place. I had a hard time finding a medium- price hair salon in the area when I moved here until I found this one. I didn't want a budget hair cut but I also didn't want to spend a huge amount of money. I was able to book an appointment quickly and they gave me the pricing for my specific hairdresser on the phone. I am extremely happy with my haircut and the whole salon is very nice.
