I used to work right down the street from Japanese Auto Center (JAC) since the early 2000s, but typically take my vehicle to the dealership for service. Looking back, that was a mistake. Recently, I needed to replace the evaporator core and expansion valve for my A/C, and the dealership quoted me almost twice what JAC did. Since it was such an expensive repair, I decided to give JAC a try, and I'm so glad I did. The first thing that impressed me was the size of the shop. They have multiple service bays, not just in the main area but in another section as well. More importantly, the customer service was outstanding. Whenever I called with a question, Kevin didn't have someone else relay the information--he got on the phone himself and kept me updated every step of the way. When the replacement part they received turned out to be defective, they handled it quickly and made it right without any hassle. Another thing I really appreciated was the complimentary rides to and from my home while my car was being repaired. Maria and Mario were both incredibly kind. Maria mentioned she had recently joined JAC after working as a parts driver for another company, and she had nothing but positive things to say about the people there, which spoke volumes to me. Then, over the weekend, while driving to Orange County and finally enjoying my cold A/C, I started hearing a strange wind noise coming from my convertible top. I thought maybe a seal had come loose, but when I got home and looked under the car, I discovered my engine splash shield had torn loose and was scraping the road. I called JAS right away, and they immediately contacted the parts department, ordered the replacement, and took care of it quickly. I want to thank the entire team. From Kevin, Roger, and Dan to Maria and Mario, everyone I dealt with was professional, honest, and genuinely helpful. It's hard to find a repair shop you can trust, but I can honestly say I trust JAC. They may not give your vehicle a courtesy wash before you leave, but if you're saving $$ is it really worth it? Helping a family member by bringing the Toyota Camry here for routine maintenance and tire alignment. We got a same day appt at 2 pm today. Everything done by 3:30pm. Quick, efficient, clean work space. Car was promised on time. Was able to sit outside in the shade and enjoy the balmy weather. Inside was a small air conditioned waiting area too. About a month ago I checked their website and tried to find some estimates for my car's repair, but couldn't find any. Then sent them a message; nobody never called back. Few days later I called and talked to someone who asked my name and car's VIN number. He said he would talk to his boss to give an estimate for my car's repair. A month has passed and nobody ever called back. I wonder how they could have so many good reviews on Yelp and much more and higher ratings on google. There are many people that are paid to give five star reviews to miserable stores. I am confident this is one of those groups that is run by some crooked people and get people's info for probably selling to criminals. read more

Be warned: this shop prioritizes easy sales over actual mechanical safety. I came here for an alignment. The first and "most important thing" they pushed me to do was buy 4 brand-new tires, which brought my total to over $1100. The problem? American Tire Depot--a company that literally specializes in tires--inspected my car just weeks prior and told me my tire tread was perfectly deep and healthy. Instead, they warned me that my front lower control arms were torn and my outer tie rod ends were worn out. Japanese Auto Center completely missed or ignored these broken steering parts just to sell me tires, and then performed a useless 4-wheel alignment anyway. You cannot align a car with loose steering parts; the alignment will fail and rapidly destroy the expensive new tires they just sold me. Because my old tires were actually still good, I could have used that money to fix the actual broken parts. On top of that, they charge a sneaky 3% fee just to use a credit card. I emailed management to resolve this oversight, but they completely ignored me. read more

This team has done major repairs for me in the past and even kept and older car alive I used to have that had really high mileage. Dan and his staff are unprofessional, and can't get the job done. My father and my father in-law both recommend this place, but they are male. Don't come here in general, but especially if you are female. I had the manager continue to speak over me when I tried to get my car in to check the brakes for the 4th time. The manager did end up apologizing at the end of the call, because he knew he was wrong to speak to me the way he did. My brakes on my car were just fine before they touched them. On the discharge paperwork, they wrote that another shop had done the adjustment wrong and this was the only shop I had ever taken it to. read more

Came here for some repairs on a Toyota. When we drove up, I saw the blue Japanese tile roofs on top of the Japanese Auto Center and figured that the place must be run by Japanese. Maybe originally. The place was really busy with lots of employees running around and I never saw a single Asian face. Made me laugh out loud. They were very professional and took care of the vehicle during our scheduled appointment. A few of us customers sat in a very few chairs immediately outside their office in the shade in their parking lot while we waited for our cars to be fixed. I didn't realize until later that they have a room in the back with chairs and vending machines. No matter. Sitting in the shade outside was just fine. We were pleased with the work and got out of there in a timely fashion, as promised. read more

I had a Mazda 3 with a small emissions leak and I had tried changing the gas cap that other shops have recommended and I tried a couple other things so I can get it to pass the smog test. I became tired trying to figure it out and I decided to give Japanese Auto a chance and I'm glad I did. Took it in and they offered to give me a ride to work when I was about to schedule an Uber ride. They called me a few days later after diagnosis and they found the problem and it was way beyond my mechanical ability. At the end, I got my car back and the engine light has not come back on and I even received a follow up to see how the car is doing. Tried to rip me off. they was going to charge me over $4,000 and the list of stuff that was wrong was so extensive. It had an oil change ( just had one less than a week prior) it had things on there that just were not broken or needed to be fixed. It's so hard to find an honest person to work on your car!! My husband and I were looking for a place to get some repairs done to our Honda Odyssey that the dealership recommended we needed to do soon (timing belt, alignment, etc) Big repair = $$ arms and legs basically. We found Japanese Auto Center on yelp but have actually passed by there a few times as well. I sent a message and Roger promptly replied. I gave information he needed and he was able to give me a quote. I took in my vehicle on a Thursday and was promised it by the end of the next day. Fair. Easy check in process. I was also told that because I had a AAA membership, I could also get a discount! They had a shuttle to take me home. Very nice lady (I forgot to get her name). Went about my day. To my surprise, at 4pm I got a call that my vehicle was done and ready for pick up! Unfortunately, I wouldn't have been able to make it before close, but they assured I'd be able to pick it up the next day. Again, easy check in to receive and pay for pick up the next morning. Over the last few years, Japanese Auto Center has been my go-to place for my sweet toyota, Carrito. Carrito and I have been together for 10 long and beautiful years. Over that time, Carrito has been serviced by many repair shops, some have been fine, some... less so, but we finally found a home at Japanese Auto Center. Many times, they have taken a look at Carrito, fixed her up, and given me great advice for future. Their service is honest, fairly priced, and quick! Recently, someone violated Carrito and took her catalytic converter! So rude! Anyway, of course I called Japanese Auto Center and Roger was so helpful and patient with all my questions... bippity, boppity and boom - I had Carrito back at home and running in 24 hours! My wife and I have been going to Japanese Auto for years and love this place and take all of our vehicles here. What's great about them is instead of taking the most expensive route in order to treat a problem they always try to find the less expensive route first knowing the high cost of living we are all facing. Case in point. I was having a squeaking noise coming from my belts but instead of taking my whole car apart and charging me for seven hours of work, Kevin assured me the belts were fine and just needed to be lubed. A huge saving in time and money. This is not the first time Kevin has helped us in this way and is one of the main the reasons we continue to go back again and again. I had a great experience here! As a woman, I've been ripped off many times with car stuff. But JAPANESE AUTO CENTER were absolutely honest and amazing! The Manager, Roger, responded to my project within 30 mins of my Yelp help request and provided the diagnostic for FREE! They needed to find the leak so they put freeon in my car w blue dye and told me to return in a week. Upon request, Roger gave me an estimate of what the total cost and labor would be if I needed a new condenser, just the O ring and or just a recharge. Their shop is big, busy, professional, very clean (lobby, work stations & restrooms), and honest! From my observations, Customers were treated very well! I will see them again for the follow up. It was the experience that could take your life. A simple repair and two little cotter pins were not installed after ball joints replaced. The Owner will not accept responsibility for the poor quality workmanship since he hires Spanish untrained labor and refuses to accept the responsibility of driving 65 mph on the freeway having both front wheels caving in after the vehicle loses traction and tumbling end over end down the freeway. Took my 2021 Nissan Rogue in for an oil change. Also asked to have brakes checked. 3 hours into my appt, I called my service advisor, Eve, for an update. I was told she was at lunch and would call me back. 2.5 hours later, Eve called to say my car was ready. I was shocked to see a bill for $102 for a standard oil change! (This included a 10% discount.) I usually pay $70 for a synthetic oil change at the Nissan dealer, but thought it would be good to try a family shop. My husband called Eve today to confirm the pricing. He was calm and polite, but after defending the price by saying that $12.50 a quart was the standard price, even though the price per quart for the same oil is significantly less at multiple other shops. Eve told him we were free to take our business to other shops if we wanted. Absolutely stunned at the experience....! read more

Kevin was amazing. I've brought our Acura RDX in before for service but my wife's Lexus IS is rarely driven due to her working from home. When the "check engine" light came on earlier this week, I immediately made an appointment at Japanese Auto Center. Kevin took great care of me and my car. He diagnosed the issue very quickly, figured out it had something to do with the gas tank cap, and figured out the solution. Even gave me a great movie recommendation in the process. Classic bait & switch auto repair shop! Beware! Got a quote over the phone, show up and I'm now quoted 30% more. When I was there, I'm told the labor alone was nearly what my phone quote was so they can't do it for the price I was quoted ... here's the updated price. Did they not know the labor over the phone since it's only 1 hour of labor. I'm sure they did yet I was quoted an unrealistic cost that got me to show up. If I was told the correct price or even close to it over the phone I would have probably gone with them since it's likely the going rate. BUT they got me to go to their shop instead of someone else's shop that charges a comparable price because of the price they quoted. This is the 101's of how a bait & switch works. I brought my 2015 Toyota Corolla into this shop solely because they are know to give a "Complimentary" diagnostic. Upon registering, I was told off top that I would be charged $173 to even tell me what caused my check engine light to come on. I reluctantly allowed them to go through with it. I was told that it was caused my a misfire and I needed to all 4 or my engine coils and spark plugs changed and it would be $1283! I was waiting for him to say he was just joking but he never did. I went and had to pay $25 catch an uber to go get my car in time to go to another shop that took care of it for under $500. read more

I saw good reviews for Japanese auto center, I had my car towed there, When I first walked in, I felt very welcomed. Roger listened to all my concerns about my car, I felt relieved knowing right then that my car was in good hands. Roger gave me a call and told me what was wrong with my car then they went ahead and fixed everything. They did a great job. My car runs even better now, they are very honest . Update on the 2004 Toyota Camry: On the first visit I spent over $3K for a new catalytic converter, exhaust manifold gas, oxygen sensor-downst, air fuel ratio sensor, and spark plugs. As soon as I drove out of the auto center the check engine light came on again. I posted my review on 19 Jan 2026 and received a message via yelp to contact Roger the manager. I contacted Roger and returned with the Camry to Japanese Auto Center on 27 Jan 2026; the fuel injectors were replaced as apparently this was the reason for the check engine light, however the check engine light came on again after the fuel injector replacement. I returned to Japanese Auto Center for the auto diagnostic test. I was informed the issue was now the "other" catalytic converter - needed to be replaced; Japanese Auto Center stated it would cost approx. $900 to replace the other catalytic converter. Bottomline...spent $3K and nothing was fixed, Japanese Auto Center requested an additional $900 for the other CC replacement - nothing resolved! Extremely unacceptable service! read more

Located off Del Amo Blvd in Torrance. I needed to get an oil change on my mom's car after going to another place for a couple years the prices seemed to get higher and higher for services there so I decided to come here after going through the reviews. At first I requested a quote but the response I got was to call so I called and a service advisor was supposed to call back but they didn't I know they are very busy and since I had the day off from work I took a chance to go by. I talked to the service advisor Eve she was awesome she took my info and set me up I went and waited in their little waiting room I didn't wait as long as I thought I would she let me know what was recommended down the road and estimated cost which didn't sound too bad. Oh and they do have AAA discount as well which is helpful. Overall I had a great experience here they are busy daily and Eve and the other staff were friendly. I'll be back again. Just hopefully future services won't cost me an arm and a leg. read more

How is it possible that I have not yet given this place a yelp review? I honestly have not shopped around to compare pricing, but my husband seems to think that what they charge is about right... and any small premium is worth it at an auto mechanic business that I can trust. Past experience has shown that I don't need to have my husband intervene to ensure that I'm being treated with complete honesty and respect. Most recently, my husband had researched the wheel vibration issue I was having at higher speeds to the "control arm" and bearings, and as a known issue in my vehicle make and model year. I brought the car in myself to Japanese Auto for this and 4 other items of varying complexity. I was able to confidently have them call me, instead of my husband, to authorize the required scope of work. They also advised me of an additional item and another upcoming routine item to plan for in the future. Then the doubled up on my car to get it back to me by the end of the day, which was such a nice touch - in addition to the transportation to and from the shop so I could work from home while they worked on my car. Years ago, Japanese Auto earned my trust and loyalty when we took the car there after the guy who AAA sent out to change out my battery implied something was wrong with my charging system and advised me to take the car into the shop he worked through. Japanese Auto ran diagnostics on my car and did not find an issue, so they ran them a second time, just to be sure. When came to pick up my car, I found that not only did they NOT suggest unnecessary work to a confused, unknowledgeable (about cars) female by herself, but furthermore, they did NOT CHARGE ME A DIME for running the diagnostics TWICE. This place is truly the best... I can not recommend them enough. read more
