Our group of 9 was mostly made up of first timers. It included among other types, a self professed puzzle-hater and a 13 month old. We appreciated that we were able to bring my niece, as my brother and sister-in-law wouldn't have been able to come otherwise. The puzzles were difficult but made sense, and we were offered hints at points when we seemed to be floundering. There were a few technical difficulties but they were quickly fixed and we were given extra time to make up for the mishaps. In the end we didnt finish within the hour, but the owner was kind enough to let us finish anyway. In the end we still felt accomplished, and everyone including the puzzle hater enjoyed the experience! We will definitely come back when theres a new puzzle! read more

Definitely a complicated and exciting puzzle! It was difficult but challenging. I loved the theme and the game host loves his job, he helped out and gave us some much needed clues. The host and owner, Joe did a great job at keeping us involved with his presentation and backstory to the escape room. We all really liked the brain teasers before while he was explaining everything to us. The room itself was fun. He made sure to keep us moving by giving some very subtle clues. We had a really fun night here. There were 6 in our group. This escape room is definitely challenging. It was fun to work together to try to put the clues together. Its harder than i thought. There were 16 puzzles to find and unravel. Needless to say we phoned a friend more than once. Lol Also, the owner was AWESOME! He really helped make the experience what it was. I love anytime I know my $$ is going to a good person working hard to make it, rather than some corporate conglomerate. That was a definite bonus. Ask him about his artistic talents. If you're looking for a great escape room you have to check out jar studios although it's a little bit hard to fine it's on the right side of the building that's connected to diamond billiards. My first time going here I called to see if they had any availability and it just so happens that they had just shut down for the night but joe being the awesome guy that he is opened it back up specifically so my group could come and enjoy the room not only is that excellent customer service but the room itself is fantastic it's hard enough to make you want to keep coming back and try and yet everything that's in that room can be done by an eight-year-old. The male owner is really funny, provides helpful tips, and even will let you finish the the room when time runs out. The drive was a good 30 minutes, but I would recommend checking out the place. In addition, the guy was really nice and inviting with also placing a background story on how you got to where you are. My group and I have done about a dozen escape rooms and this one has definitely been on our top 3 in terms of difficulty and enjoyability! We did a Groupon for a group of 8, but the owner was more than happy to allow us to add a last minute 9th member for an additional price. The unique thing about this room compared to the other rooms we've been through is the psychological play on our minds when it comes to solving the puzzles. The puzzles themselves were not convoluted or difficult to solve; they all made logical sense. The owner was very passionate about escape rooms, and it was impressive to learn that it was only he and his wife who created all of the puzzles! WOW. This place is great. It is truly an original escape room. To top it off he customized the room to meet the needs of our team. At least that is what it felt like. . . The level of difficulty is up to you. They offer to help guide you and know exactly how to give clues so that you feel accomplished doing the task even if you had a clue. We decided to do an escape and we couldn't have chosen a better place to go. When we first arrived we noticed the lobby was very clean and very well decorated to the theme of the escape. Joe was very polite and attentive to our needs. He explained all aspects of the escape and what is expected from us, "TO HAVE FUN" which is what we had. It's definitely suitable for families too (nothing creepy/scary) so children would enjoy it. This place was great. The room was super difficult, but our 10 year olds were able to accomplish all of the puzzles with (sometimes quite a bit of) help from the wonderful host. When we were stuck and needed a clue, he had a way of giving us juuuust enough to make it click. He was very helpful in coaching the kids to figure out the answer, but never actually giving them the answer. We moms were not helpful, but enjoyed watching the kids feel accomplished. This is great for younger guests who can get lots of help, and would be very difficult for adult guests. Our group has done about 20 Escape rooms of multiple levels and sizes. We have done rooms with massive amounts of technology and others that were similar to this one where the tech was limited but other creative measures were used. I have to say that we enjoyed this room more than a few others that had a lot of tech! The use of space and creativity of puzzles sealed it for me. There are some issues such as puzzles pieces being worn from use or faded marks but the enjoyment from the whole setup more than makes up for it. The owner and his wife did a great job and the fact that you walk in and are immersed in the story right away is a plus. They have great ideas for the future and we will be back for the remake of the room as well as future rooms! read more

We read some great reviews about JAR Studios so we were excited to check it out, as it was the only escape room in the Sacramento area that we haven't tried before. We are definitely not experts when it comes to escape rooms but we've done our fair share and feel pretty confident about most room we've done. We got there 5 minutes early, per the instructions Joe gave us on the phone. We got there and were met with an EXTREMELY enthusiastic and fast speaking host. You can tell he is passionate but the pre-room chatter was a bit much. We were ready to get into the room. There were some great puzzles in the room. A few that we should have gotten on our own. Our only real complaint was that Joe was constantly trying to give us hints, even when we didn't ask for them. He even came into the room unprompted quite a few times to tell us something or show us something. We would have appreciated being left to try to solve the puzzle on our own without assistance until we asked for it. It kind of brought the vibe of the room down for us. read more
