I can't ever come here again. I left a great review 2 , maybe 3 years ago on google Raving about this place. It was owned by 3 brothers from NY and the Chicken Tikka Masala was to die for. Went so many times and hadn't been in over a year so I came back. Ordered over the phone and it was quick and friendly. The service is great. They check on you, they're courteous and super sweet. I even tipped over 20% because they were so friendly. Hence why I left 2 stars and not one. Samosas we're missing filling and they weren't as soft as I've had. Garlic naan was solid. Our first time here and just like other reviewers mentioned this is definitely a family owned restaurant. It's a hidden gem. We decided on this place after seeing so many recommendations. It was our first time trying Indian food so we felt this was the place to go. We ordered the chicken masala, chicken biati and garlic naan bread. They told us there would be a 20-25 minute wait because they make the food fresh and no kidding the food was freshly prepared and so good. My husband really enjoyed the chicken seasoning as well as the naan garlic bread. The masala sauce was really really good. Overall our experience was excellent. This is an update from the review I initially made of the restaurant after my first experience: I tried their food once more after my initial terrible experience and was offered a free meal so I gave this place another try and boy do I regret it... the food was still extremely OILY and it did not taste like the butter chicken I'm used to. Mind you I'm a huge fan of Indian food and have tried several different Indian restaurants all over Texas, but this one has to be the worst. Heard a lot of great things about Tarka Indian Kitchen and am definitely gonna give that place a try next time. We had a hinkering for Indian food. Went to jasmins because the reviews are pretty good. Prices were reasonable. They lose 1 star on service time. It took over 30 minutes for us to get our food. They also were out of a lot of foods that we wanted to order. The food was ok, not bad, not great. I think everything was spiced a bit too conservatively. I came here with my family and this was some of the best Indian food we've had! I promise you will never find 2 huge samosas for $2.49 anywhere else! We also ordered papri chaat and there was SO much. Had a hard time finishing it and these were only the appetizers! Two of my family members ordered the masala dosa and mysoor dosa. These are under apps but they're good portions to eat as your entree (not as big as regular entree dosas but still good!). The mysoor dosa is the best, but it can be spicy if you don't eat spices regularly. We also got the butter paneer which was so, so creamy (amazing) and veg biryani. We also ordered 2 garlic naan, 2 chai, and a mango lassi. At the end of our meal, my family of 5 had leftovers! Our bill also came out to be around $50! Talk about great food at a great price. it was the worst experience ever, i went in wanting to try something new for my birthday with some friends and i was super duper excited at first. first off they took forever to take my order and on top of that she said it would be about 25 minutes and we waited an hour for our food to come. Ok...Jasmin's. I halfway don't want to do a review because I don't want ya'll to come here & screw it up w/ reviews based on slighted expectations. Meaning, it's in a "not so safe" or "shady" area. But funny thing is that's where some of the best food is! They're tucked away in the same shopping strip as one of my fave taquerias. I make random drive by's here when I have the urge for Indian cuisine. They're a good deal better than those in the immediate area. Service has always been great. I've notice it's been pretty quiet, but taken a little time for order to come. Well that's because my meal is being freshly prepped & not sitting in steam tray all day. Recent order was spicy vindaloo & roti. Yummy samosas & they're pretty big too. Prices are reasonable for what you're getting. If you're not sure of something, they're quick to answer questions so you order something that's right for you. I'll probably be here more due to my fave of all just up the road burning down not long ago. The interior is new, remodeled with good furniture, simple but artful decor and clean. It's somewhat narrow, but has about a dozen tables or so. And no blazing TV hanging in the corner! (the street's other places may complain to the authorities about this) Menu (on the wall & a to-go one): Has a category of 'BBQ', which really means the indoor kitchen grill. These items are chicken and beef (different kebabs and pieces). Chicken Tikka, Bihari, Rashmi, Seekh (B or C), Charga Deep-fried items: chicken and Lahori fish. Kebab Roll (option parata +$1) , Chicken or Seekh The odd menu item: Cheese Burger with Fries. About 9 Chaat offerings, and 3 Roti. But for novices, there are no pictures of items on the menu. My feast order: Chicken Kebab Roll ($6), which was 5-star terrific. I had it with the grilled bread (paratha). The roll comes with a liquidy-light-green sauce that is mild, but adds a nice touch of flavor to round-out the kebab inside and onions and lettuce. The kebab is about 10 inches long and about inches thick. The meat was perfectly cooked and not chewy. Mango Lassi ($3.50) was good, but diluted a bit compared to those from my favorite places. Friendly and good service. Seems family-owned and operated. As Mezban Host, the owner was very helpful. As Parasite, I enjoyed the Roll. Very frustrating experience. I ordered food from Jasmin's online at 11:15, was informed it would be ready at 12:25. I arrived about 12:25 and the representative on-site acted like he had no knowledge of my order. He found it and began cursing and expressing frustration at the large order. First time trying their food and not impressed. The food lacked flavor which is saying a lot because Indian food is usually flooded with amazing flavors. I ordered the chicken korma, on the menu it said WHITE meat which I assumed was actual white meat chicken but i received thigh meat. The chicken korma was spicy which is a plus and had decent flavor but silly me I expected it to be chunks of chicken breast not thigh with bone. Plain rice was just that plain rice no flavor no salt, the Naan was plain no flavor, the veg biryani lacked flavor. So to sum it up food lacked FLAVOR. I'm always down for trying new places up North side (of Houston) so we decided to try a new curry spot. Goat biryani - goat meat had a good portion and the flavor in each bite was so so tasty. Goat curry - 7.99. Oh hot damn that was nice n spicy. Generous portion of meat again and the flavor was up to par. This is an extremely good small south Indian style restaurant. It has good price with good portion and packed with spice flavor. I believe that this is Keralan style food, where I rarely find this style committed faithfully in Houston. I already tried Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Curry House special and Egg Roast. Their tasty naans are freshly made. I found everything made with full of flavors. I am looking forward to get different things next time there. Compared to many other food served by most other Indian restaurants, this southern style has more spice, saltier, much less sweet and can be hotter. So don't expect the taste would be same with most Indian food you know. It is best to go here when it is not packed, especially as wait time can be very long as they really takes time to cook properly as they mostly cooked fresh. Be prepared to wait a while. Me and a coworker were working in the area and happened to give this place a shot. We rolled up around 11:20 and it looked like we were the first customers for the day. The one team member that we saw greeted us and was very nice. We both ordered the chicken curry, and asked for it to be spicy. The service was great, and the same man that greeted us continued making sure everything was going well. The spice level was perfect, and the dark meat chicken still on the bone had a wonderful flavor. We order some garlic naan in addition to the rice and enjoyed it. The food is made once you order it, and you can tell that it is fresh. They care about quality. This is my new favorite Indian spot on this side of Houston. I will be back soon. read more

So far I'm very pleased and I feel like this place is going to be a staple in my rotating lunch, I'd like to post a more in-depth review once I have eaten here at least once more. For now - I got the palak paneer, sweet lassi (OMG YUMYUM pistachios and cardamom), and onion naan (fresh!). The guy who rung me out was very friendly, not sure if he's the owner. I haven't been back to this place since they changed owner for about 3 years or so... tonight I came home late and so I didn't cook dinner.. I was craving Indian food so I yelped their menu and ordered a chicken biriyani and chicken tikka marsala! I was given a very generous portion of both!! Totally amazing! Called in an order a couple weeks ago. Ordered an appetizer and was told they were out but we could try another on the house. Got it home and tore it up! Even hubby who doesn't really have a diverse palette really enjoyed all the food. Biriyani, garlic naan, tikka masala chicken and complimentary Mysoor dosas. The garlic naan was perfect!!! Thank you! The food is amazing. We choose to dine in and the environment was cozy and quiet, there's not much to the aesthetics of the restaurant because the food is the main attraction. My hubby and I enjoyed the butter chicken, curry lamb and the most amazing veggie samosas. The garlic buttered naan is to die for.
