My daughter was…read morereferred to Chula Vista Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Center by our dentist for a wisdom tooth extraction. From the very first phone call, I felt like I was an inconvenience rather than a patient. As a single parent, I asked reasonable questions about pricing because I cannot afford surprise bills. The woman I spoke with was rude, dismissive, and unwilling to provide any estimate. Attitude was essentially, "Come in and we'll bill you later if insurance doesn't cover it." That's not helpful when you're trying to plan financially. During that same call, I was told the office would contact my dentist to verify whether my daughter had already had a panoramic X-ray done. This was important because I didn't want my daughter unnecessarily exposed to additional radiation, and I didn't want my insurance billed twice for an X-ray that had already been performed and cost my insurance $200. When we arrived for appointment, front desk staff were just as cold and unfriendly as they had been on the phone. Because appointment was for my daughter, I didn't bring ID with me. They nearly turned us away. The situation became even more frustrating when I asked whether anyone had contacted my dentist regarding the X-ray. I was told it was my responsibility. I explained that your staff had specifically told me they would handle it, and instead of apologizing or trying to resolve the issue, they argued with me. I've honestly never experienced a medical office that argues with patients rather than helping them. An assistant later came in and told me she didn't know what happened at the front desk and that it wasn't her fault. While I understand that, nobody seemed interested in fixing the problem or acknowledging that there had been a communication failure. Then the doctor came in. I assume it was Dr. Tillman, although he looked nothing like the friendly, approachable person shown on the website. My daughter is a minor and was already nervous about oral surgery. The doctor spent only a few seconds looking in her mouth with a Q-tip, barely interacted with her, didn't sit down, didn't make eye contact, and did absolutely nothing to help her feel comfortable. The entire interaction felt rushed, cold, and disconnected. What made it even worse is that the consultation wasn't free. We paid over $100 for what felt like a 10-second examination from someone who seemed completely uninterested in speaking to either me or my daughter. The office manager, Cinthia, was also unfriendly throughout the visit. When she returned with pricing information, I had already explained that we only wanted one tooth removed at this time. Instead of being understanding, she came across as irritated and annoyed. Whether they thought I was being difficult, whether they thought I was rude, or whether they judged me because I couldn't afford to remove multiple teeth at once is irrelevant. Patients deserve to be treated with respect. What bothers me most is that not one person apologized. Not one person said, "I'm sorry for the confusion," or "Let's see how we can help." Nobody tried to make my daughter feel comfortable. Nobody attempted to resolve the communication issues. We were met with arguments, cold attitudes, and complete indifference. This office stands to receive thousands of dollars from insurance for these procedures, yet the level of customer service was some of the worst I have ever experienced. I have an amazing dentist and have been referred to many specialists over the years, and I know what good patient care looks like. This was not it. I left so disappointed that I immediately contacted my dentist and requested a referral elsewhere. Wisdom tooth removal is already stressful and scary, especially for a child. The last thing a family needs is to be treated like a burden. If you're looking for a practice that is warm, compassionate, patient-focused, and willing to communicate respectfully, don't come here. And if Tillman is the Dr I saw today.. how unfortunate.

This was my first time coming to this office after being referred by my primary dentist…read more Unfortunately, my experience at the front desk was disappointing. The receptionist was rude and handed my patient information form back to me abruptly because the last page was incomplete. I had questions regarding the signature section, which is why I had not signed everything yet. After I completed it, I was given another form and told they needed information about my pharmacist as well as authorization for X-rays. My dentist was supposed to email my X-rays beforehand, but apparently that had not been done. Because of how unwelcome I felt during the interaction, I decided to reschedule my appointment. At this point, I am unsure if I will return and may consider other options instead.

I have mixed thoughts about this place and this doctor. Was referred to this location by my dentist…read moredue to part of my upper and lower wisdom teeth coming in heavily impacted. Had my consultation appointment in October. Got x-rays done, filled out some paperwork, and watched a video about the risks this surgery poses. Did not actually get to talk to anyone about any questions or concerns I might've had. That was kinda odd in my opinion. The office itself is very nice and looks promising but the experience I had said otherwise. Early November I had my procedure done. The surgeon was quick but did not present with any compassion if you ask me. Felt pain during the second removal of my lower wisdom teeth and practically felt the entire tooth being yanked out even after multiple anesthesia shots. At one point I jumped up in tears because it was so painful and the surgeon had the nerve to get upset with me for startling him. How else are you supposed to react in pain?! Let me yank out one of your teeth and see how you react. More anesthesia shots were administered and was not successful. Eventually just had to suck it up to get the job done, but the surgeon didn't even bother to check in after the procedure. Apparently no amount of anesthesia was gonna help due to the tooth being so close to the nerve, but I wish they had explained that to me after the x-rays were examined. Got prescribed the typical pain killers for the post-op and received some at home care instructions, but never received a follow up appointment to check in and see if I was healing properly. Ended up going back to my dentist to check in with them and thankfully all is well now, but I wouldn't recommend this doctor or location to others. Be aware.

I know this review is long but if you care about our child please read it…read more My 17-year-old son had all four wisdom teeth removed here, and the entire experience left me upset and honestly regretful that I chose this office. When he became more aware afterward, he told me he woke up during the procedure and felt pressure, which clearly frightened him. That alone is very concerning to me, as it raises questions about whether the anesthesia was adequate. When they brought him out to me, his eyes were extremely red and it was obvious he had been crying. He said he woke up panicked and crying, but they kept him in the back until he "calmed down" because they didn't want me to see him like that. As his parent, that was very upsetting I should have been informed and allowed to be there for my child. What made this worse was the lack of communication overall. After the procedure, the doctor did not come speak to me or explain anything. Instead, I was told to pull my car around, and they brought my child out to me in the car. There was no proper conversation, no walkthrough of what happened, no reassurance nothing. As a parent, you're left wondering: who are we supposed to talk to? How are we supposed to understand what our child just went through? Between my son waking up frightened during the procedure, being kept from me while in distress, and the complete lack of communication afterward, this experience was extremely disappointing. I truly wish I had chosen a different office. This was a stressful and regretful experience for me as a mother. I strongly recommend that other parents ask detailed questions beforehand about anesthesia, recovery policies, and post-procedure communication. Or please look for another office. I hope this office improves how they handle patient care and communication with families.

I went to Smiles of Eastlake for a comprehensive exam and cleaning. After reviewing my X-rays, I…read morewas told I had a couple of cavities and that some of my old fillings should be replaced. I trusted their professional judgment and agreed to the recommended treatment. During the procedure, the numbing injection was incredibly painful. I've had fillings before, so I knew this didn't feel normal. I remember thinking maybe they just used a different technique, so I trusted the process and didn't question it. Looking back, I wish I had advocated for myself. Ever since that filling was completed, that tooth has been in pain. I lived with that pain for the next 2-3 months, hoping it would eventually go away. Instead, I pushed it to the back of my mind and convinced myself it would get better. When I finally flew back to the D.C. area, I went to the dentist I've trusted for the past 10 years. He took new X-rays of the painful tooth and diagnosed me with pulpitis, an inflammation of the dental pulp. He also showed me that the new filling extended beyond the previous filling. He expressed concern about whether that additional drilling was necessary. He couldn't say for certain that it wasn't, but the look on his face and our conversation were concerning to me. I'm not accusing anyone of wrongdoing. I'm simply sharing the facts. During my comprehensive exam and X-rays at Smiles of Eastlake, there was no indication of inflammation in that tooth. After the filling was done, I developed constant pain in that same tooth and was later diagnosed with pulpitis by another dentist. My biggest issue with Smiles of Eastlake was that the office felt rushed and impersonal. It felt more like a high-volume practice than one focused on individualized patient care. Once my trust was broken, I wasn't comfortable returning. This review is really about two things. First, if you choose Smiles of Eastlake, proceed with caution. Ask questions, advocate for yourself, and don't be afraid to get a second opinion if something doesn't feel right. Second, listen to your body. I ignored persistent pain for 2-3 months because I assumed it would get better. It didn't. Whether this outcome could have been prevented, I don't know, but I do know that ignoring my symptoms wasn't the right decision. I hope my experience encourages someone else to trust their instincts and seek care sooner.
