This Dr. is God sent! I was in SO much pain and within a week I had my consultation and root canal done. Him and his staff were so comforting and personable about my pain and making sure I was seen right away. During my root canal he talked me through it because I was so nervous, assured me it was going great, and took an X-ray afterwards to show me exactly what he did. After my procedure once the anesthetic wore off I felt slightly sore, which is to be expected, but my pain was GONE. The next day he even called to follow up which I thought was so sweet! If you're looking for a specialist- this is him. I had no need for OTC meds or anything because he was so gentle and really got rid of the problem. After 24 hrs I feel back to normal! This location took care of one of my daughters. The provider was highly recommended by my dentist. It was easy to book an appointment and the provider, Dr. Shin, was amazing. However, when booking for my second daughter the experience was far different. She was abrasive with me and aggressive from the beginning. When I pointed out her behavior she started laughing at me. She did notify us that a consultation would be required first and I simply asked why my other daughter did not require a consultation. She made up several excuses, none of them stuck, instead she spoke down to me utilizing what she believed to be expert opinion. She also stated that maybe their office is not a good fit and that I should get care elsewhere. Myself as a medical provider would be ashamed if my staff treated patients this way. I see that the office manager Norma who I spoke with has several complaints listed regarding misquoting prices and that she has attitude. I asked her to please have the dentist Dr. Massart call me to share my bad experience and that she may be turning away patients without consultation with the provider first. I do not know what was communicated to him from Norma but I did not receive a call from him so instead I am leaving this review. My tooth decay was getting too close to the nerve so my dentist who is down the hall referred me to Dr. Massarat. I was extremely nervous about this procedure. I already have dentist anxiety from a bad experience when I was a kid and all I heard were horror stories about root canals. But I realized the horror stories were more about the infection and not the actual procedure itself. Dr Massarat was very mindful about my anxiety and made sure to ask me if I was ok during the first few minutes of starting the procedure, making sure I didn't feel anything. The procedure from getting the shot to finish only took 25 minutes! I timed it. I was shocked. I didn't feel a thing the whole time. It was probably the best dental procedure I have ever had.. I went here the other day for a consult, due to having ongoing pain in a tooth that I had a root canal done on (by a different provider). The experience was a mess, for many reasons. First, they struggled to take an x-ray and ended up taking 5-6 x-rays, when only 1 was required. They had a difficult time positioning the piece that goes in your mouth. This extra radiation exposure was not ideal. Dr. Massarat proceeded to carry on with the exam and to say his bedside manner is lacking is saying it lightly. Maybe he is good with performing root canals but it would be nice if he communicated in a manner that was not harsh and condescending. He repeatedly told me my tooth was not the problem and when asked if I had sensitivity to heat and cold, I told him no, he later went on about how I could not have this sensitivity and then proceeded to place a freezing cold instrument on my teeth to demonstrate how I would feel pain if that tooth was an issue. I sure felt the pain in my other teeth. I came to this clinic to hopefully have them troubleshoot my pain in that tooth area and he spent the exam trying to explain how the root canal could not be the issue. I get it that you are passionate about root canals but this can be done in a way that does not violate several of the ADA code of ethics. When I went to check out, I explained that my visit was supposed to be with Dr. Shen, as she came highly recommended. The receptionist replied, "Oh, well, they are basically the same". I booked my appt with Dr. Shen and had to leave work early as I was told that was the only time she would be available. The icing on the cake was when I was asked to pay, I was given a number, and then quickly she said, wait, it's actually this, and gave me a higher number. This was not only unprofessional but raised a red flag. I proceeded to dig through reviews and saw that they have a history of overcharging. My insurance company is looking into it. I also paid for an appt. with a provider that I did not make my appt with. I will provide an update if/when my insurance company reveals what my actual portion out of pocket was supposed to be. read more

While I would welcome that as good news, his response is not. If Tom M is the doctor in question, then finding a patient's clearly stated, valid concerns to be funny would illustrate the arrogance and indifference he has to his patient. That is unfortunate because I had no complaints about the work he performed-in fact, quite the contrary. I was pleased with it. However, the hubris displayed by Tom M towards a patient is unprofessional and unforgivable - if Tom M is actually Dr. Tom Massarat. Still think it's funny, Doc? I can't wait for your next response. Came here for a root canal not once, but twice... both occurrences happened YEARS apart. Because my first visit was such a long time ago, what I remembered was that this clinic is located in a nice medical office building, and I did not remember any pain or complications after... Fast forward to my more recent visit, last week... same clean, professional office, my dentist referred me back to him. Turns out I not only needed a root canal, but that my tooth had actually cracked. (I had an ache, my bad for waiting so long for it to get checked!).. anyways.. dr Massarat got right to work. After several doses/injections of the anesthesia, I still had feeling to the tooth, despite the fact that the rest of that side and the teeth around it were numb. Dr massarat took his time trying to numb me as much as he could. But ultimately he explained that my tooth/that area was so inflamed and irritated, no way he can completely numb it unless it gets started and injects the anesthetic directly. So yes, I did feel pain. But honestly, it was very much tolerable and Dr massarat constantly checked on me as he worked to make sure I was ok. I noticed that dr massarat worked quickly, methodically, and skillfully. Even with all the time it took addressing my pain and giving me additional doses of anesthetic, I was still in and out within an hour. He gave me a prescription for high dose Motrin which helped to relieve the pain he knew I would feel after. So yea. Both experiences were quite different in regards to the pain I felt associated with the root canal. Dr massarat is a very experienced, straightforward, thorough doctor and I am very satisfied with the treatment I received. read more

Fraudsters here!!! Went in for a consultation for my son. Massarat looked at him for a total of 15 seconds (bedside manners also lacking). Took longer to fill out paperwork. They wanted to schedule an invasive procedure for the next business day. When asked for an estimate (I understood it was just an estimate) they were unable to provide it to me. I called later in the day and once again, they said it was impossible to provide an estimate at that time. I then spoke to the Dentist, Mossarat, what a joke he is. He explains to me his staff does not have time for such things, because insurance companies take too long and If I was interested in an estimate, he would provide me the codes, and I myself can make the call. Wow!! Then the following day, he contacts my primary dentist to let him know that he no longer wants to see our family, in addition, his receptionist calls me and tell me they no longer want to see us. What!?!..... Fast forward a few days..... I get a second opinion with another specialist and he tells me there is absolutely no way this tooth could be saved! and the consultation, I previously had, probably wasn't as thorough if the diagnosis was anything other than the removable of the tooth. Wow!!! and Wow!! Oh and by the way these FRAUDSTERS actually billed me! LMAO!!! My insurance fraud team is now involved and is looking into these scammers. Hope this review helps. I was looking for a endodontist to see me emergently and he returned my phone call on a Sunday night and has followed my case closely. I have jaw issues and he did such an excellent job on my root canal and on follow ups. I so so appreciate his honesty and care. Hopefully I won't need another root canal but if I do I will be running back to Dr. Massarats office. I had a horrific fall and my dentist referred me to Dr. Massarat. I fractured my maxilla (upper jaw/front teeth), was in VERY bad shape and needed immediate attention. He graciously came in on his day off to tend to me. Over a period of time, I followed his plan and luckily, he helped me save all of my teeth. He is extremely thorough, knowledgeable and also took a deep interest in ME, asking if I was feeling any pain on the procedures....which by the way, was minimal to none. With 4 root canals later and a successful road to recovery, I cannot express the gratitude I have for him. I felt comfortable the entire time and truly admired his sincere care and support from him and his staff, Crystal, Arianna and Norma. They took care of me as if I was the most important person on earth. He's my 'miracle' doctor and one of the best in my books as he has given me more reasons to smile again. Amazing Dr.! I'm very grateful for all the work he had done for me. I had root canals and 2 surgeries (today was my second one). All the time my appointment was less then 1 hour and had no pain during procedure and even after ... I have a minimum pain (only took some Motrin). Very different for all of my other past experiences in other offices. Also, staff is very professional. Norma, Crystal and Ariana are friendly and helping out all the time. I have no idea how good Dr Massarat is with his clients. I was seen by Dr Shen. I was told she's the coolest Doctor in the office(I like to provide nonsensical chatter around the water cooler). Dr Shen was very kind and took her time explaining the procedures to me. Later on after my root canal she called to check on me. I needed some ibuprofen. She called it into my pharmacy, it was waiting for me when I got there. This level of care is what you should expect anywhere but it's just not what you will get everywhere else. Now for the critical things that could be different. #1 put Dr Shen on your website. I like to know places are minority friendly . #2 Everyone including you call your business "Eastlake Endodontics" but on yelp it's Tom Massarat. Not a biggie but it's a barrier to some well deserved yelping. read more

Normally there's a lot of anxiety going on when you go to the dentist or even more so when you visit an Endodontist for a root canal. Dr Massarat is a very comforting and thorough person. He explained everything he was going to do, even showed me which most don't. So I went in with a little anxiety and as comforting as he was my anxiety went away. He asked the whole time during the procedure if I was ok and comfortable. I was comfortable the whole time, he's there for you not just to get the job done and on to the next. Root Canal.... ughh I cringe when I hear the term! I had a tooth that was extremely sensitive and started throbbing! Went to my dentist and since there wasn't an obvious infection we went with a crown. My dentist recommended that I see Dr Massarat if the pain continued. 5 days later I couldn't take it anymore! Schedules an Appt with Dr Massarat, one minute into the exam he said "root canal"... I was terrified but the pain of a root canal couldn't be worse than the pain I was experiencing! He was able to squeeze me in the next morning, first Appt! Got there on time and they were ready to go! I have to say this was the BEST root canal experience I've ever had! He was fast, it was painless and he was very comforting and transparent! He let me know how things were going and made sure I was doing ok! I hope I never have one again but if I do i will definitely see Dr Massarat again! read more

Sadly the issue is with the Office Manger Norma. Tom was nice, but couldn't help us. We came in with a lot of pain and they told us the visit was going to be $15. We paid our $15. Tom did nothing but look at the tooth. We had to go to another dentist because it was cracked. Two weeks later we get a note in the mail to pay $40 more dollars. (I now know it was a deductible I thought I had already paid) I had to go out of town for work that week and not even a week later we get another bill in the main with a comment of "payment within 10 day to avoid this account being assigned to a collection agency" HOW RUUDDEE!! Not even a week and they send a letter with a threat. Of course I call them before 5pm and they don't pick up. How can we go from $15 to $55? Oh, we had a 12pm appointment and when we showed up the office was closed with an "out to lunch" sign on the door.....so we had to stand around waiting in the hallway and when they did show up they didn't even say "hi" or "we will be right with you"....nope just kept talking and walked right by. TOM seems to be good person, showed concern for my wife and was very nice to both me and my wife I. These post treatment aggressive letters are not ok and should be noted as a real lack of service standards. Maybe this review will get them to call me and not just mail me threats. (they did call, and I paid) Way to ruin the reputation of a good DDS. read more

My regular dentist gave me a referral to have a root canal done. I made an appointment for a consultation in the afternoon. The staff here is very friendly and equipment is up to date with technology. After the xray was taken, the Dr came in and told me I had an infection and needed a root canal. He asked if I wanted it done then since I was the last patient of the day, I asked how long, he said "eh 30 minutes". During the process the Dental Tech and Dr kept asking how I was doing. The numbness sunk in quick. Within 15 minutes he was done with the procedure. I left the office and the numbness was fading away and I was thinking oh heck, I am going to be driving home in pain. Not even! No pain. He prescribed Ibuprofen and Antibiotics...it's been a week and still no pain and the infection is just about gone! Very good Endontic and the staff here is very nice. read more

I have never been to a DDS that has done tooth work absent of pain during the process (even while numbed). Dr. Massarat changed that. When I had pain after the fact two days later, he was available via cell phone and attentive to my concerns until he issue was resolved. He even followed up over the weekend to assure I was getting better. He certainly takes pride in his work and is invested from start to finish. As a dentist myself, I cannot tell you how happy I am to have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Massarat and Associates. I personally, fractured a tooth while clenching so hard at night, about 18 years ago at night. I have delivered three children, but this tooth pain was worse than that. I went in for a root canal, but before I did I had the office confirm my dental insurance coverage. After confirming my coverage I proceeded to get the root canal. Now they are saying that my dental ins. denied my claim and are trying to bill me for the remainder of the bill?? This to me is POOR office skills!! Dr. Massarat is absolutely amazing. Don't waste your time looking around for another endodontist because it doesn't get better than this, promise. My dentist referred me to Dr. Massarat for a root canal, and I'd never had one before. So although I'm a pretty good patient at the dentist, I was a bit nervous for this. I think there are a lot of horror stories tied to the word "root canal," but it's 2016, people. We have the technology. Don't sweat it. I went in yesterday, and all of my interactions with the staff were great. I felt like a person, not a number. The assistant (Pam? Pamela?) was so sweet and made me feel very welcome and comfortable. Dr. Massarat had a real/friendly/funny conversation with me, explained the procedure, and then got to work. From start to finish, I was in the office for one hour. And that includes filling out the form on the clipboard, checking out to pay your bill at the end... The procedure went by super fast! Dr. Massarat turned a scary root canal into an normal, everyday dentist appointment. I got numbed up, there was ZERO PAIN, and both he and the assistant keep checking on me throughout the procedure to make sure I was alright. And I was! And I still am! I left feeling great. I got to see the before and after x-rays of my tooth, and lo and behold, no more decay, no more painful root! Haha. Today is the day after the procedure, and there has been no severe pain. Doc gave me a prescription for Motrin, and that's all I've needed for the soreness. The only time I notice any soreness is when I'm actually eating food. And still, it's not that bad. Don't be afraid! There are people who are excellent at their craft and Dr. Massarat is one of them! Don't be the subject of another root canal horror story. Go see Dr. Massarat. read more
