I've been going to Dr. Wong for the last 10 years (usually by appointment, rarely do I do walk-ins since it can be hectic, being inside Sunnyvale Costco and all). He's like the cool uncle who always asks what I'm doing and remembers what we talked about last. He's very personable and knowledgeable, his equipment is always clean, and his administrative staff is always nice. The most memorable interaction is when I first got into contacts because I was going snorkeling for my first time, with my partner's family in Hawaii. Because I procrastinated on scheduling this eye appointment, the trip was for the following week and my contacts wouldn't come in on time. HE GAVE ME ENOUGH SAMPLE CONTACTS TO LAST ME THE WEEK AND HALF LONG VACATION!! I was so grateful that I wouldn't have to snorkel with glasses - I ended up swimming with MANTA RAYS!! NEGATIVE STARS!! Jason Wong's exam was abrasive, rough, and insensitive. We felt harassed and I was so upset by the end of the exam tears came out because I was so angry that my mother in law had to experience his beratement at age 77. It was supposed to be a nice bonding time since I was visiting from out of town. Instead I left without a written prescription and she couldn't get her sunglasses replaced. This "doctor" is jaded and his arrogance inhibits him from being qualified to help anyone. He can't even spend 20 seconds listening to the customer. We were interrupted with assumptions and then felt pushed out the door even though the new prescription was more blurry. His statements also felt pushy and contradictory and he didn't bother to explain anything thoroughly. I read other reviews after and several others had the same unprofessional experience of him talking down to them, cutting them off, and rushing them out with a prescription that was either too strong or posed problems later because it wasn't what they needed. His tone from the get go was off putting. He was just downright mean and rude with his exam technique. Hum hawing and sighing in frustration for no reason as if we were a nuisance or did something wrong. It also felt like he was treating us badly because of her age and the language barrier. We felt verbally abused and I felt horrible that I had to translate. He started by saying her prescription changed dramatically in the last two years and that something must have happened which worried her for no reason. He questioned the paperwork she brought in for her current prescription and pressured us to use his even before we started the exam. Red flag. From the moment we sat down I wanted to leave, but tried to endure the session to get my mother the prescription, see where he was going, and he was the only optometrist there. He didn't want to hear what we had to say. He forced us to pick a very specific function for glasses without giving us time to answer. He was offended when I answered his question as to why we were there. I explained that my mother in law wanted bifocals but for her sunglasses, and he rolled his eyes saying that he knows what bifocals are like a whiny child on the verge of a tantrum. It is clear he has some insecurity issues to work through. I was translating for my mom and I could see that she felt intimidated to answer honestly because he was dismissing her concerns instead of properly explaining anything. He didn't give enough time for her to see the letters before he flipped to the next one and rushed her to answer. In a condescending tone, he had the audacity to say she wasn't trying hard enough a few times even though the letters were so small and blurry she couldn't make them out. He made her feel really bad with his tone and approach. He didn't ask but told us what version looks better even though she said it was more blurry than her current prescription. It had to be his way. And then he questioned her cataracts surgery and made it sound like there was something wrong with the way it was done without explaining anything. Then he pushed us out the door. It validated that the exam was a waste of time and that his qualifications were questionable. We didn't feel comfortable with the prescription and I was not going to pay for being harassed. I told him that this was a very rough experience for us and that he shouldn't treat anyone this way. I felt bad she had to experience this. Seeing that I was upset he said that "we can pretend this exam never happened" which was a cowardly way to back out of the exam and pretend he didn't just treat us poorly. He showed us the numbers and said the difference was negligible from her current prescription, which contradicted the big scare he gave at the beginning. What baloney. I wish the exam never happened. I am LIVID. We felt so violated by this arrogant person. Afterward my mother shared with me that he scared her and talked to us like we were stupid, and that she thought there was something really wrong with her eyes. It makes me so angry that she had to experience that behavior especially after having gone through so much in her lifetime. She had such a horrible headache when she got home and her eyes hurt because she had strained them so badly trying to see the letters even though he was scoffing that she wasn't trying her best. Don't waste your time or energy. Costco should do better. This is a huge disservice to customers who simply need a competent optometrist who is kind and doesn't berate customers because of his own personal issues. read more

I went back to Dr Wong in 2024 and obtained a new distance glass. He hit the prescription perfectly. I am really picky with the vision - I had him give me a 0.25 lower script also and he obliged. I think his original diagnosis works the best. He was even kind enough to rewrite the 2011 script. All three glasses are perfect. Next I worked with him on reading glasses. It appears spot on, I am using this as I am typing. I find him very personable and friendly. Then Costco appears to have great frame prices. Overall I am very happy with him. I had gone to another very highly rated Optometrist and neither of this persons scripts fit as well as what Dr Wong ordered. In the last 6 mos all 4 of his scripts have been perfect - 3 distance and 1 reading. Definitely plan on seeing him when I need updating of my prescription. read more

Dr. Wong was efficient, proficient, considerate, and knowledgeable. In my eye exam for glasses, he gave me 3 prescriptions, one for distance, one for desktop computer displays, and one for up-close reading. Included was a comprehensive eye health exam done via a medical device which recorded images of each eye in minutes without dilation. All of this was completed in 30 minutes by Dr Wong and with the help of his assistant Cathy. read more

Not like other eye doctors, but that can be nice, I'm used to professional looking doctors wearing a white robe, but this guy was different, almost like as if the beach was outside and when there is a customer he walks in off the beach to check your eyes. If you remember that movie from about 35 or 40 years ago, Rock & Roll High School, he reminds me of that guy in the bathroom stall that helped people and everyone was lined up outside, remember how he was, he kind of reminds me of him. Dr. Wong has been unfailingly correct, even when I wanted him not to be. He has an uncanny sense for diagnosing exactly what works for me, and for that I am beyond grateful. This is true of simpler things, like "I think you're going to prefer living with this prescription, so try this." to "don't get more than 6 months, because I think in 6 months you will likely want to look at bi-focal contact lenses". He also assumed I was chinese and when I corrected him and said i'm korean he said "same thing". I went to costco sunnyvale to get glasses just to avoid headaches while working in front of the computer. I don't have any sight. Dr. Wong specifically suggested me to get reading glasses. Then He started pressuring me to buy another pair of glasses meant for driving. I declined the "glasses meant for driving". Then finally after 1 week I received my reading glasses. I have no idea what he ordered but the glasses were too strong that I couldn't use the glasses for more than couple of hours. My eyes were getting strained Then, when I went and complained, they said some others were also having the same issues. Dr. Wong, please don't order strong glasses that damage your patients' eyes. I came to your clinic to fix my eyes not to damage them. read more

I take back my comment that "He deserves a 2-star". Why won't I let this go? After his muck-up 3 years ago, I have a new optometric check-up. Guess what I found? The 0.5 power that he added to my prescription magically just fell away !! How is it possible? Is this a miracle? Have I been doing mini bench-presses with my eye muscles? Or am I, by any chance, been getting any younger?? Hmm ... Let's see -- nope. 2013 Exam was very rushed probably because this is a Costco *However my contact lenses do perform well but my glasses are "weak" 2014 Called his office twice to get more disposable lenses and left voice mails asking if he can ship lenses to me since he has all my records. Good Doctor/Great Personal skills! My mom's vision has been off - and she was resisting going to her eye doctor. She LOVES Costco - so I took her on a Costco trip and to get eye glass prescription checked over. It turns out mom wasn't taking her eye drops for pressure as she needed to do. Dr. Wong put her at ease - explained why she needs the eye pressure drops and helped get over her reluctance to see her eye doctor. Located inside the Sunnyvale Costco. I have been a patient here for over a decade; I get my annual vision exam done here. I have never felt rushed, and Dr. Wong always makes sure all of my questions are answered. His receptionist always gives me any available manufacturer rebate forms for my contacts. My eye exams are 15 minutes without pupil dilation, and between 30 to 35 minutes with pupil dilation. My eyes are hard to dilate, so it takes longer. Before I met Dr. Wong, I used to wear a certain brand of contacts that made my eyes feel dry - I was spending a lot of money on eye drops as a result. Dr. Wong told me about a different brand (and gave me trial pairs), and since I have been using this brand, I haven't had to spend much on eye drops. It gets very busy, so I recommend getting an appointment. They take walk-ins, but the line can be very long. read more

Even tho I hate how it's always crowded, but the staff and doctor are super polite and have so much patience...they try to fit you in instead of making you come back next time. I got a lighter prescription comparing to last year and felt weird, so I went back to double check. We were making a Costco run. I had in my mind that it was time to get my eyes checked, so I stopped by Dr. Wong's office, located within the Costco store to see if I could make an appointment. Luckily, when I inquired about when it would be convenient for me to come by for an exam - he replied, "Are you available in 10 minutes?" Well - yeah! I figured since I was there, I may as well get my eyes checked. Dr. Wong checked his records. I didn't realize that the last time I had my eyes checked was back in 2004 in addition to this being the last time I had my eyeglass prescription updated. Dr. Wong is thorough with his exams and very personable. The cost of a basic exam is $45 without insurance. I know that they accept insurance, but not sure if Dr. Wong is on the VSP provider list or if you need to seek reimbursement from your insurance provider. This fee includes all of the basic eye tests along with eye dilation. Once he places those drops in your eyes, he sends you out into the store to browse around for about 15 minutes so that the drops can take effect. Once you return, he completes the exam and writes out your prescription. You don't need to be a Costco member to have your eyes examined by Dr. Wong. His fees are totally separate from Costco. He is able to dispense contact lenses. For those of us who wear glasses, you may have your prescription filled Costco (the turn around time is a about 7-10 working days) or to the optician of your choice. read more

Always get good service... the last time I came they were busy but he was able to squeeze me in for a quick cursory checkup and it was a real help... then of course I had the regular exam a week or so later when I was more healed up... but just wanted to say how he and his assistants are always helpful. I do feel sorry for them tho, because they had to deal with parents with out of control kids that practically tripped the assistant and a really annoying customer that kept asking the same stupid ass question again and again... as she expected to barge inbetween doctor appts or something. My ophthalmologist recommended Dr. Wong, as he did not specialize in fitting specialty contact lenses. Dr. Wong is conveniently located in Costco. He has great hours (weekends) and is great about letting you try on samples of colored lenses as well as letting you adjust to your prescription before buying them at Costco. I even purchased daily disposables for my snorkeling trip to Hawaii!!! I suggest making an appointment to ensure quicker service. He is a personable guy and my lenses and eyesight are spot on! I've been going to Kaiser for years, but once my insurance ran out I had to find a new place. Costco fit the bill so I made an appointment. The actual office is super small! The files are piled high in the examination room. Despite the line outside and the place just being overcrowded in general they are pretty efficient. Wait time isn't that long and you can be in and out fairly quickly. Dr. Wong is AMAZING!!! He not a stuffy optometrist who exams your eyes and gives you a prescription you don't like and could barely afford (I use to pay $50 a box for contacts that I hated from Kaiser!!) I told him my issues with my last prescription and he broke down my options as far as price, comfort, and how clear I'd be able to see. Although there was a line outside he took the time to talk to me and get to know me. It was a week or two before my wedding (I know!! but I was busy and put it off) and Dr. Wong understood my financial issues and time constraint. He gave me a ton of free one day contacts to get use to them before the big day. For as long as I've been wearing glasses/ contacts and the years I've visited optometrists I have now found a doctor that I truly love and will definitely go to in the future. After visiting his office I have already referred him to family and friends. I can go on and on about how great this guy is but I'll stop :) read more

Thorough checkup...inside costco so can walk around while your pupils get dilated...try reading a book ;) Lens and glasses counter is right next to the small clinic. Cost me $60 for the test...pretty reasonable. Friendly doctor and accommodating staff. Highly recommend it for a quick but thorough eye test. read more

Dr. Wong is great! Both my brother and mom have been going to Dr. Wong to get their eye exams for several years. Since I recently moved back to the bay area, this was my first time going to see him. It was really easy to get an appointment with him. I called in around 2pm on Saturday, and was able to get a 2:45pm appointment. During the eye exam, he was very thorough, but at the same time very efficient. My eye exam only took 10-15min. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to get an eye exam at a great price. ($45 for eye glass exam & $89 for contacts/eyeglasses). read more

I went to Costco in Sunnyvale to get glasses an eye exam and two pairs of glasses. One pair of sun glasses and second one with every option: scratch resistant, anti-glare, transitions, thin glass and more. I paid top dollar for each pair, but one pair got scratched. I went to get the right lens replaced and the Costco vision center said, "Sorry, we don't repair or replace the lenses because we do not offer warranty on these glasses even though you bought them 3 months ago". This is my first time buying prescription glasses here and the last. How can you keep your customers happy and coming back? read more

We went just at the closing time, Dr. Wong said he would only see one of us, but he treated both of us. He took time and slowly did the tests on our eyes, explained in detail of our eyes and what were the prescription. He is an excellent doctor and was full of energy. BEWARE: this office, located inside of Costco, doesn't accept VSP insurance. The Costco website says they accept VSP, and the office didn't say anything about it when I called to make an appointment. After fighting the crowds in the parking lot and the store, we go to the optometrist office and are asked how we will pay. THEN the doctor tells us he doesn't accept VSP insurance. When I ask why the website says they accept VSP, he says that's Costco, not his office. Then he says "If you looked at the sign on the door, you'd know we don't accept VSP." I made my appointment on the PHONE, not in person, so how am I supposed to see the sign on the door??? With an issue like this, they should ask how you plan to pay when you call to make your appointment, before you arrange your whole day around going to the optometrist that doesn't even accept insurance. This seems like a scam to get people to pay cash even though they have insurance. read more

Are all these reviews fake? I have never gone to a doctor who sees other patients while seeing me! They clearly overbooked to make more money. Did I mention the whole appointment (minus waiting for him to see other patients) took less than 3 minutes? He only asked me to read the chart ONCE. It wasn't even the full chart, I only read SIX letters and got 1 out of the 6 incorrect...yet he still proceeded to give me contacts to try?? Where did he find the audacity to think he's giving out the correct prescription from this "exam". I went for a contacts fitting exam but he didn't even bother to ask me to read the chart a second time with the new contacts on. Now I have to drive back because the contacts he gave me are uncomfortable. I had other concerns about my eyes but Dr. Wong simply disregarded them and said it's impossible. I drive 45 minutes just to see this doctor and his excellent staff, no joke. Costco optometrists tend to be kind of lackluster but Dr. Wong is energetic, fun to talk to, and his staff is as friendly and helpful as anyone can possibly be. I needed some contacts for an impromptu trip and phoned them about it the day before, and not only did they get me some Acuvue Oasys to last me 3 weeks, but signed a slip to allow me to buy a pack immediately before renewing my prescription. Once in a while you patron a business that is so memorable that you just HAVE to write a Yelp review. This is one of those moments. read more

Very disappointed! I know they maybe in it to make money but I think it's only fair to at least stay organized. Went in last year and they were trying to upsale services while I was only there for my contacts prescription as it had expired. Went to my local optometry this past week and had them call Jason Wongs office for my prescription!! APPARENTLY THEY DONT HAVE MY RECORD!! Which decent doctor doesn't have a record of his patients?? M just blown away that I had to go home look for a physical copy and give it to have my lens ordered!!! Just amazeddddd read more
