My car began to malfunction, and trusting them, I brought it in. Before I even reached the counter, I overheard someone from the garage scream, "Here comes an opportunity." Red Flag. Once the diagnostic was done, I was told repairs would cost upwards of $10,000. I'm no mechanic, but I know manipulation when I see it. I asked for a print off of the required repairs and was told that "they don't do that". Feeling uneasy, I sought a second opinion. In the end, the repairs cost me $200. All I needed was a couple of hoses, and some spark plugs. It was crystal clear that Pep Boys was trying to take advantage of me. What's worse, I overheard a manager berating an employee for not "getting more" out of a customer. They didn't think I heard, but I did. On top of that, I was told by someone else that while they visited the shop they overheard a district manager discussing with their team how desperately they need to repair their customer relationships because so many people are coming forward about being swindled too. I'm sharing this to warn anyone considering Pep Boys, do not trust them. There are honest auto repair professionals out there. The people at Pep Boys, however are nothing but crooks. They do brakes and oil changes. That's it. They aren't mechanics. I learned from a former employee of theirs that the reason they charge so much for repairs that because they outsource the work to actual mechanics, then overcharge so they can get their profit. Let my experience be your cautionary tale. Don't trust them.

As I walked to the front of my car, I got down on one knee to ensure they had replaced all of my trim clips on my splash guard.( I did this because in time past they were not all replaced) As I bent over, I noticed oil pouring out from around my splash guard. I jumped up and ran to cut the car off. One of the techs looked over and asked, whats wrong? I told him my car is pouring oil out. Andrew was inside the building looking out, so I went in and explained to him what the problem was. At this time one of the techs got in the car and was going to start it to take it back in the shop, and the other tech yells at him. "Dont start that car up". Andrew went outside and had a dicussion with them and they pushed in back into the shop. Later he, andrew, came to me very apologetic and professional saying the oil filter was not tighten properly. I was frustrated, and dissapointed in what had just happened. I simply said, this could've been very bad if I had not looked under my car and drove off. He agreed and still apologetic. I told him its not your fault and I know you want things here done right. I hope this will serve to them as a learning tool to pay attention to detail. I will continue to take my car there because I trust them, however, I will contine to be very observant of what they are doing and check to see that job is done correctly. I declined and paid the diagnostic fee of $103. Took my car to AutoZone. They performed a diagnostic (for free) and replaced my battery for $216, a savings of $300. By the way AutoZone will do a check engine light test for free and install a battery for free. I have been taking three cars to EXPRESS OIL yearly for 20 years. That stops today!

He did advise them and 1 guy said he thought he may have left something disconnected....comes back and says there is a part broken on compressor (they said the belt was near the compressor and difficult to get to) Now this had to have happened during the time of service but no one admitted to it. I would like someone to follow up on this as we had NO A/C issues before coming in. I am delayed as I've been out of town and I know because he's a child...they knew any response would fly with him. But when I got in my vehicle and drove away I noticed that my tires were not filled to the proper psi (which they had stated they had checked and filled on the report). What's worse is that the tpms sensor was on and a red alert was on one tire that was over 8 psi below normal. And when I went back in to tell them about it the woman at the front said "the tire pressure gauge may need to be reset" and then the guy asked me what pressure I wanted to fill it to. The front girl doubled down to the guy filling my tire that the sensors may need to be reset. But the sensors are pretty quick to update. I can watch it change psi within seconds of being filled. But wait that's not it. I noticed that the tire pressure was the same per tire as it was before I got there and so I asked "did y'all rotate the tires?" The guy said "yes ma'am " but in the same breath said the spare tires pressure was at 28 psi. For reference the tires are supposed to be at 37 for factory setting. So in that moment I knew without a doubt they did not do their damn jobs at all. It's not cool to waste peoples time and money but even worse safety. Shame on you guys. I hate doing reviews but this one was very much needed. I cannot stand lazy auto repair people. This job is important for not only my vehicle and safety but also everyone else on the road. To make a long story short, we approved what was needed to fix the oil leak and the catalytic converter they said was needed. $4800 was quoted and paid when they completed the repair. About four months later we were back for the oil leak which had gotten much worse. They claimed they replaced something related to the oil filter connection. At this point we lost all confidence in their company and we went to the Honda dealership. After hearing Honda's $9,000 bid to fix, we decided to buy a new car and end this nightmare. Christian Brothers should have been honest with us and advised us to not fix this car and buy a new one. They care more for their profits than they do customers. Hubby settled into a comfortable chair and browsed one of the books on the table (about highlights of the SEC). Next to the Keurig coffee area is a large window that overlooks the service area. I sat on a stool at the bar in front of the window and watched the technicians at work. CBA provides a complimentary inspection with pictures and video of the car, as well as a detailed report of the condition of the various parts of the car. Wow! The techs were thorough and their uniforms were still clean in the afternoon! Hmmm. Maybe they change if theirs are dirty? After payment for my new battery and its installation, Devin had a yummy surprise for us. Never have we had such a great experience at an automotive shop! (They also have a shop in Hampton Cove owned by the same person and an affiliated shop in Madison.) I guarantee that you will become a loyal customer - just like us!
