Another phenomenal dinner by Chef Lemar Farrington from Amaliea; this time a pop-up Valentines Day…read moreevent at The Nest in downtown Raleigh. The food was elegant and delicious. The perfect setting for an intimate dinner. Started with an appetizer of crab salad atop a round of crisped chicken skin. As with all the courses this one was beautifully presented, atop a upside down tumbler which encased a red rose. A nice romantic touch. Next, an appetizer of beets, strawberry, rhubard. The maple syrup infused beets were the perfect balance to the strawbs and 'barb. Sweet, tart and earthy with a sprinkling of greens on top. On to the tuna. Three slices of ahi are served topped with slivers of manzano pepper, crunchy garlic slices and adorned with cilantro greens. Manzano adds a touch of heat, garlic a little spice. The tuna is fresh, moist and slightly sweet and is enhanced by the unique crunch of cilantro. Wow! Another perfectly balanced taste. My favorite of the evening was the agnolotti stuffed with turkey and corn. Chef's prep of the agnolotti was dumpling size, stuffed with scrumptious rich and flavorful smoked turkey neck. The agnolotti was served in a pool of parm butter sauce, adorned by small slices of char grilled corn. This one has all the flavors and textures going at once. Sweet, creamy, smoky. I could have eaten 3 servings! But wait - there's more! A plump chicken breast, sous vide to perfection - moist and tender. It's served atop a mound of coconut butter beans and sauced with an arc of sweet squash puree and an arc of earthy, garlicky chimichurri. The art of this one is to get a taste of all of the ingredients in each bite. The combination is sublime. For dessert, a wonderful earl gray tiramisu. The tea is a great foil to the sweet whipped cream on top (or was is mascarpone??). Hiding under the tiramisu is a taste of red berry jam to add some fruity sweetness. It's served next to a dollop of roasted vanilla gelato, atop some crunchy chocolate crumbles. The ideal finale to a scrumptious meal. I cannot recommend Chef Farrington more. Every plate is thought through...from the ingredients to the preparation to the presentation. Outstanding!

The quality of the food was amazing and they were able to accommodate people in our group who are vegetarian. The sauces were delicious! Big Foot is the real deal- the only thing missing from Granville County's (perhaps the Triangle's?)…read morebest (I'd say only) purveyor of whole hog barbecue is a brick-and-mortar location, but that's not a deal-breaker for me. Big Foot makes what old timers sit around and talk about when they discuss their archetypal pig-pickin', that is to say: slow-cooked (locally-farmed) whole hog, on charcoal and wood smoke, served chopped with plenty of bark, with sides that make sense. The ribs are country-style: thick, still juicy, with a bit of snap, and with a perfect bone-to-lean ratio. They do bird, too, and do it surprisingly well. Their smoked chickens are moist and delicious, and perfect for Sunday dinner. Want a real treat? Try their smoked chicken salad on some Strong Arm focaccia one afternoon. Sauces vary to please the discerning BBQ palate, but there's nothing over-the-top. This isn't competition barbecue, it's barbecue that people line up for on Sunday afternoon, it's the kind of barbecue that people seek out when they are driving through Granville County on the way home from Virginia, because if you know, you know (and want). Kelly and team sometimes go off piste with some more creative sides, but again, they make sense, like the barbecue/collards/sometimes Mac-and-cheese egg rolls that show up in a catering spread. You should always choose their fantastic string beans (get anything green on the side, for that matter). Big Foot pops up in the Triangle, so be on the lookout- it's authentic, pork-and-smoke-forward North Carolina barbecue, a whole-hog experience that will not disappoint. Until there's a brick and mortar, you can find their next service on Instagram and Facebook.

If you're on Instagram or online in general, you'll have seen this promotion being announced and…read moretalked up by "foodies", Duke's Mayo loyalists, and IG "influencers". The articles all state that Duke's Mayo (my favorite brand) is running pop ups in 4 locations in your area to try their sauces on some amazing chicken, based on recipes by some fancy chef. Just pick a sauce, your choice of tenders, nuggests, or a chicken sandwich. Add large "sea salted" waffle fries for $3.69. And an optional 2 more Duke's sauces for free. Also available is Duke's merchandise including branded hats, socks, and ful size bottles of their sauces. DO Y'ALL KNOW YOU'RE LISTENING TO THESE SUPPOSED IG INFLUENCERS TOO DAMN MUCH?! THAT'S PDQ CHICKEN & FRIES. NOT A DAMN GHOST KITCHEN. AND PDQ USES SOME OF THESE SAUCES TO BEGIN WITH. DUKE'S IS EVEN HIGHLIGHTED ON THEIR MENU. Now, that said. If you like PDQ, go ahead and try it. The tenders I got were about $1.30 less on promotion pricing when I searched Duke's Sauce Shack on DoorDash, then on the regular PDQ menu. There is also a $3 off delivery promo that popped up. So since I've never had a hankering for PDQ, I said well let me try it anyway so I know. Now I know...I'll just stick with Bojangles or Popeyes,... thank you. And I'm fine with that. But if you THINK some fancy chef from Duke's is standing inside a PDQ cooking you something special, you done bumped your damn head. Always do your research people.

I have now tried this food truck 3 times and I'm ready to recommend it !…read more This food truck is in a pretty convenient location and the menu has a good amount of things to eat. Everything is made on the truck mostly to order. The staff are nice there's usually 2-4 people making the food so remember to be patient because MOST FOOD IS COOK TO ORDER. If you do not have time to wait do not be going and having an attitude. However, the food is work the wait and supporting a growing business in Greensboro. They're open Friday, Saturday , and Sunday so if you need your fix grab it and stock some in your fridge it's only available 3 days a week and they sell of of some items by Saturday afternoon with their high demand. I have tried a good amount of the food and will venture out more in the next few months. Jerk Patty ; this was delightfully good ! I have never had a jerk chicken patty and I was curious to see what it was like. It was flaky on the outside the inside had a little kick and was extremely flavorful. Beef Patty ; this was a traditional flavor well executed flaky and good. If you like beef patties you'll enjoy this. Not spicy. Curry Shrimp ; this is one of my favorite items on the menu. I like it's an appetizer to get a different entree. You get a great portion size , an it's seasoned to perfection. Curry Goat ; this is my favorite along with so many others. Expect this to sell out before Sunday most weeks. It is delicious. They defined take care in the prep the meat is not gamey or with an off taste. It is tender , well seasoned. I asked for it to be Jamaican hot and it wasn't spicy to me but that could be a me thing with my high spice tolerance. It was still amazing and my favorite thing I've had from the truck by far beside the jerk chicken. Oxtail ; this is the only thing I haven't liked so far. I personally do not like sweet meat and the oxtail was sweet to me. They were well cooked though. Very tender. I haven't re ordered them though. Jerk Chicken ; this chicken is so delicious (this is a theme most of the truck is great ). I cleaned the bones off this chicken. It was tender and they allow you to say how you'd like the sauce I don't like ketchup so I asked that it doesn't have that with jerk and bbq only. Rice and Peas ; your typical rice and peas very good. Rasta Pasta ; this is my favorite side but it can be a bit inconsistent. Sometimes it's dry other times it perfect with a little sauce on it but I enjoy it every time with my meal. Overall a great place and I would recommend it.
