I watched the kitchen quite a bit while waiting and even with 4 tables waiting on food there was no sense of urgency. Lots of standing and doing nothing, when we did get our food the hash browns were mushy in my breakfast burrito. By the way that was the main contents of my breakfast burrito. Java Bay is one of my boyfriend and I's go to, treat yo-self breakfast joints. I reccomend the hippie hash! The hash is crispy, really cheesy and has a great amount of onions and peppers. If they aren't busy they'll even substitute the sausage for bacon.. which is my preference. Michael is one of the cooks there and he knows how to get it done.. all the staff is great and friendly but Michael definitely knows how to grill up some hash browns right!! Funny! They took down my BAD review, guess they only keep the good ones?? Here it is again! Less than good food and the service was horrible! The owner/waitress, probably named Karen, tried to lecture me on what hash browns are even after I paid for my meal. She stated that the hash browns are CLEARLY described on the menu. Wrong, Karen, I looked and there's no desription... that's on you. You should know your own menu! Maybe she was having a bad day but I would never eat at this run-down dive ever again! Just to add, when the waitress dropped off our food she left the building and did not even come back to check on us! She only came to the table after our meal to clear the plates and that's when she let me have it with the "hashbrown" lecture. Ugh. This is a decent breakfast spot. They were open on the 4th of July and made a tasty breakfast burrito. Coffee was good. It is a walk up and order then help yourself to coffee and water type of place. We enjoyed it and if we were feeling any lazier, might have wanted more table service but it was not particularly necessary. The staff was friendly and keeps a tidy establishment. Stopped here on a Wednesday morning, late July so it wasn't too busy which is a good thing since it is a small space. With that said the food was very good - came out hot and the service was very good - drinks were refilled and they were very polite. You order at the counter and then they bring the food out to you once it is done. Prices were reasonable, maybe a little on the high side but the quality of the food and service made it worth it. I stopped in for breakfast and was pleased with the ham and cheese omelet I ordered. It was served hot, fresh and with fresh sides and toast. The wheat toast I ordered was delicious. My coffee was hot and it was nice to be able to refill my cup at my leisure at the drink counter. The only negative I have, and it seems trivial, is that all the napkin holders were very "dusty". I brought was up to the counter to get refilled and mentioned this fact to the wait person. She said "It's just dust from the napkins". Regardless of where the dust came from, it was unsightly and could be easily wiped down when the table is cleaned. On occasion I get a hankering for corned beef hash. I'm used to the stuff most places serve: tiny diced potatoes with finely minced corned beef. Whoa, this place used slices of corned beef cut in strips and diced. It actually tastes like corned beef. This was a new sensation and I had to adjust, did I like it or not? I think so. Should have had it with a fried egg to temper the corned beef. The more I ate the better it got. The portion size was too large; would have been nice to take leftovers home and refry but I'm staying in a hotel. But the coffee was awful. I had the medium brew and it tasted just wierd. Ok I'm not trying to sound like a Karen with this review but this place's service absolutely sucked. My husband has a dairy allergy, and when I asked if the bread had dairy in it, instead of looking, the lady up front said, "oh it probably does" and she wouldn't look for me. Ok, no problem, I'll see if she can substitute something for the bread since my husband literally cannot eat it. Apparently they don't "do that here." I ordered our food and was told it would take 25-30 minutes to be out. Well 40 minutes rolls by, and then 50 and then an hour, and before we know it, it's been an hour and 10 minutes before we actually get our food. Meanwhile, there are regulars coming in and placing orders and getting their food well before us. It was just very frustrating. The food was eh, I honestly wish I would've brought my spice kit with me because it seriously needed some spices added to it. Yeah overall this was definitely not a great experience and I wish we would've made our own breakfast. If you actually want food delivered to you in a decent time I wouldn't come here. It's sad since all the reviews for this place are so great and we were expecting great service but we definitely did not receive that. Also forgot to mention, the lady up front (we think she's the owner as well) literally said to 1-2 different customers "it's my way or the highway" and we just thought it was pretty funny that she has the audacity to say that to paying customers. read more

Was just looking for an all day breakfast in Marquette when we stumbled upon this place. The food was fantastic - one of our group even says it's the best omelette they've ever had. Our only complaint was that we could've used bigger straws for the smoothies. The service was fast and friendly and the place was nice and clean. Definitely recommend! read more

The breakfast was good. They are not open for dinner., just breakfast and lunch. I am from downstate and was up visiting my father while he was in the hospital. I had the breakfast quesadilla and added avocado, it was good. It looks like a sit down restaurant, but you go up to the counter to place your order. There are coffee carafes that you make your own coffee, which was different, but interesting. I didn't mind. The food was good and the coffee was good. It seemed like there were a lot of regulars, so I assume their other menu items must be good as well. read more

Java Bay is a small, quaint eatery on Third Street in Marquette with phenomenal breakfasts. They have daily specials and make the best hash browns you'll ever have. My husband, who's hard to please, has had a couple of their sandwiches for lunch and said they're spectacular. I've referred many friends there and they all rave. One, however, even having enjoyed the food thoroughly, will not go back until they provide real silverware...they give you plastic cutlery even though their plates and coffee mugs are ceramic. To start I was a little surprised that java bay is not an actual coffee house they do serve drip coffee and one fancy coffee with some tasty ingredients added in. I ordered the farmers omelette it's was great!! A little on the greasy sight but still an awesome omelette packed with an array fresh ingredients. All of the other meals I saw out looks good as well.
