Small dining area. Order and pay at the counter. 7 tables. Small place. There is black duct tape on the floor, their cobbled stone linoleum is coming up. Why is this place even called Java Bay? They only have regular coffee or decaf. They give you a mug if you would like their coffee here. We took a pass. My husband prefers lattes or mochas or flavored coffees. The staffer at the counter suggested we go across the street to Velodrome Coffee, since they have no good coffee options. We will have to stop by elsewhere to get a decent coffee for the hubby. Ordered the mushroom omelet, side of rye bread and the hash tag. No berries for the sweet oats & berries - can't order that then. I wasn't able to get a physical receipt. I was told I will get an email. It's been over an hour and no email so far. Would it be so hard right print out a receipt for me? At the moment I am regretting our choice to come here immediately. Our order decreased by their unavailability of key ingredients for the oatmeal. We could have gotten hot oatmeal for free back at the hotel and wild berries at least. They have no non-pork sausage or non-pork options at all. Just eggs as a substantial meat option. :( Not an extensive menu for sure. There was a short blonde, light brown wavy hair at the bottom of my omelet, found it after two bites into the omelet. It was sadly at the bottom of the omelet, so, I didn't see it until I cut into it. Gross. I brought it to the staffer's attention, she couldn't see it. I had to pull it out in front of her to see it. She didn't manage to apologize and instead asked if I would like her to remake it, or what, eat the omelet contaminated with hair in it? This breakfast experience gets worse by the minute. I had to wait for my redo of my food, she informed me it would take 10 more minutes. Thinking it was because the skeletal cook in the back has other orders to do for the folks that arrived and ordered after us to get their food. Another table of food out for another group of guests that came after us. I got to eat my omelet about 15 minutes after my husband finished his breakfast hash tag. The hash tag was okay. Oh good. I finally got my redo mushroom omelet 15 minutes later and after two tables that arrived and ordered after us got their food before my redo food due to a hair. I see they have their priorities in disorder. Good for them. My second mushroom omelet has no hair in it. Yay! The only flavor is pepper on top of the egg, which is wrapped over the eggs, tomatoes and mushroom. Mushrooms are good, lack luster as far as flavor though. At least they use fresh mushrooms. The rye toast is soggy from the omelet. And they placed two butter packets on top and over the toast. I am sure many hands have been on these packets. This breakfast trip has extended over an hour of our life. I am left thoroughly disgusted and disappointed in the abominable service of this place. Not super comforting hearing the cook in the back sneezing, twice. Hope it's just allergies. I am glad I can't see back there at all. Given the output of the food so far. Cleanliness and good customer service doesn't seem to be a thing here. read more

Waited 34 mins after they opened for this. Nope. Not coming back. We were just the second order right after they opened. All three cook and wait staff keep running the mouth talking about their weekend so hence the long wait time. The omelette egg quality was under par, not enough cheese, the toast not even hot enough to melt butter. No milk or any hot chocolate to order. Very little coned beef in the corn beef hash. Well first things first, the sign and name are very deceiving, THEY DON'T EVEN SELL COFFEE! They just had push pots of black coffee in the corner. We were a little shocked by this but decided to still try the food. We went up to the counter to give our orders and we're told that it will be an hour wait for our food... There were only about 10 people in the whole restaurant. I don't understand how eggs take an hour to cook?? We just walked out and went across the street to Velodrome. Listen to the reviews about the long wait times! I wish we had checked yelp before heading over. We wound up being there for over an hour and a half. The host was sweet and let us know that the food would take 45-50 minutes. It actually took over an hour to get our food. It was standard, basic breakfast food. If I could leave 6 stars I would. My partner and I have been eating at Java Bay for over a year now and it's the only breakfast place in Marquette that we will go. The sandwich was good: Bacon Me Crazy. This review is mostly about the poor service. The service was not good. We made our order at the register as the short-haired blonde woman asked us to. We ordered the "bacon me crazy" on an english muffin w/ a side of hash browns. Another party of 3 comes in after us and makes their order. We're waiting for about 20 minutes when the party of 3 is served our meal. The person that gets our meal says "I ordered it on a croissant, but okay. And I didn't order a side of hash browns, but okay." The other 2 wait for their meals to be served. I go up to the counter to ask if our order will be done soon and if she could please make it to go. The blonde woman brings our sandwich in a box and says the hash browns will take about 10 minutes. We check the box--had a feeling it would be wrong. The sandwich is on a croissant. I go back and say that it is not what we ordered. She says she'll change it. By then the other 2 from the other party get their food. She never admits that she made a mistake. It took about 40 mins to get just the simple sandwich. I had to go again to the counter to ask if it's done. She still hadn't gotten the english muffin bread ready. Firstly friends, there is no espresso here despite the menu on Yelp. The coffee here is barely drinkable. It's like a bulk, stale coffee that they brew with too much water. The coffee was the worst I'd ever had. My husband said the corned beef was the worst he'd ever had. Eggs were fine and came out correctly cooked but everything was mostly flavorless. We're glad we learned a lesson and won't come here again. I just hope I can save some of you from the yucky morning with a bad after taste. Decent breakfast spot; seems to be a lot more popular than I expected. It's a VERY small space though. They only have about 10 tables total, one of which can hold up to 6 people. We came in and all the tables were full. I asked the girl working the register if it was worth us staying since we didn't know where we'd sit and she told us the food took a little while to prepare so by the time it was ready, a table would likely open up. She was right. Seems since people know how small the space is, they don't dawdle long and take up space. Their food was pretty good. Homemade and you can look straight into the kitchen so you know it's homemade and a total mom 'n' pop shop. I ordered their spinach and feta omlelete which was pretty good. The toast was a little heavily dressed with butter so a little soggy, but the coffee was good and again, homemade so it tasted like something I'd make at home. I've eaten here a couple of times and enjoyed the food even if the wait was a bit long both times. The place has so much promise and could be even better if they would make a few changes. Please cut out the plastic cutlery; many people have made this comment and it's just odd considering coffee and food is served in ceramic mugs and on regular plates. Eating the burrito with a plastic fork and knife is just unpleasant. Please add more veggies and vegetable options to the breakfast menu. We were told it would be 25-30 minutes AFTER we ordered and paid. Turns out it was actually 45 minutes! Way too long to wait for any breakfast. The food was good but there was no reason for it to take that long. The place is very small and wasn't even full. We saw 2 orders to go while we waited and 1 other table get their food. If you really want to eat there, my advice would be to order your food then go back home, take a shower, check your email, walk the dog and then head back. Your food might just be ready by then. We were looking for a great breakfast place. Stopped here and ordered the corned beef hash breakfast burrito and the oatmeal with berries. The breakfast burrito was huge! It was amazing, the egg inside was cooked perfectly, the corned beef hash inside was out of this world delicious. The oatmeal was loaded with fresh blueberries and raspberries that were soaked in their own delicious juices that were flowing over the pot the oatmeal came in. The oatmeal was so delicious with the berries. Oh and the fresh coffee was a Costa Rican coffee that was bold and smooth and delicious. The owner Nicki, she's fabulous! I come up to Marquette for work once in a while and this place is the perfect spot near the hospital to get breakfast. Plus they have lunch specials.
