My favorite item is the whitefish bagel. Our last stop before heading home last week, we wanted to get our normal. The whitefish was sold out!! The coffee was decent, not mind-blowing, but it did the job. The mocha was a nice treat, though! The real highlight of this place was the staff. The baristas were super friendly, making the experience feel warm and welcoming. It's clear they enjoy what they do, and it shows in their service. While the food was solid, I'd say the bathroom could use a little more attention. It wasn't as clean as I'd hoped, but it didn't ruin the vibe of the place. One of the coolest things about Fall Rock Cake is the bookstore aspect. You can browse through a variety of books while enjoying your coffee or meal. It's the perfect spot to unwind, especially if you're a book lover! Overall, great atmosphere, friendly service, and a good place to relax and grab a bite.

Lovely dining rooms and Jamie took SUCH good care of us! We shared orders of pirogies and roasted Brussels sprouts - very interesting tastes and textures! We also shared a bone marrow butter burger with bacon. THE BEST!! I'm sorry we were keeping room for dessert, because we didn't finish the parmesan fries. Dessert was Good Ole Chocolate Cake and Bread Pudding. Oh, and I may have mentioned it was my wife's birthday, so her dessert had a candle in it and the dining room sang happy birthday to her.

For $40 a plate I expected something, anything that stood out. Sides were cold and lacked any flavor, fish was not special. The space is clean. The service was okay... after waiting a few minutes to be sat (no problem at all there) we waited another 10+ minutes for a high chair - yet I told the host we needed one upon arrival. Multiple people walking by every few minutes seeing we were standing up with our 1 year old. Greeted by our server, drinks brought to the table and still no high chair. I finally asked again politely where I could go grab it myself. The server herself was friendly. Hence she gets two stars.

My fiance has ordered the country fried steak (his favorite) along with the Reuben (also his favorite). I am vegetarian so I always order the veggie sandwich with curly fries. It's to die for. The sauce is yummy and it's served on rye bread. I order it every time I am in town. It's the sandwich you can't get tired of. I really appreciate that the diner offers a vegetarian option. You don't really find family-oriented and delicious diners so this one is very special to my heart. Also, don't leave without a slice of pie! They are homemade and delicious. My favorites are the coconut cream pie, blueberry, and apple. It's like your going to grandma's house for a holiday dinner there. Come hungry! :) Also, thank you Jack's and everyone who works there. I always feel so good coming in. I just can't say enough about this place. Your dear friend from Chicago. :)

After reading the menu my cousin and my wife and I selected items for dining. The waiter urged…read moreselection of 3 sides for my cousin - and, since my wife likes sweet potato fries, added the sweet potato fries to her order for steak and shrimp plus 3 sides. I ordered the cod and 2 sides (reduced to two pieces of cod) from the same menu. at that time, NO mention was made of price changes for the sides. We think - if the menu says 3 sides included - that they should not incur an 'add-on' charge - the word INCLUDED doesn't mention additional cost. those that incur a cost should be separated from the selections that are included, and not listed mixed into the included ones. We dined, but the waiter apparently does not have much experience - and had to be asked for steak sauce, and shrimp sauce. Those normally are either offered at time of order - or brought with the steak and shrimp. When I received the bill, I was surprised that the "included sides" had been charged and the price for them changed from what shows on the menu. When I protested that isn't what the menu states - the other waiter (older and maybe more experienced), said that the owner increased prices on the add-on sides. I replied, "that isn't what the menu lists and I'm not paying for increases not listed." I consider this deceptive advertising - it would have taken only a few minutes to adjust their printed menu prices with an ink pen and be 'up front' with diners about the prices one is expected to pay. I wonder how long it will take before the prices are either inked in to be accurate or reprinted menus provided... I don't know what others think about this, or how many others actually look at the prices - - but I plan to find other places to dine out when I come to visit my cousin for a couple weeks a year. The bar two doors over has great food too - and their menu reflects the prices that are on your bill. I looked at the Jacks online menu today, May 8, and the higher prices for add-on sides shows there. The increases/changes are not reflected in the in-restaurant printed menus as of May 7. Things like that might have something to do with the rather sparse turnout last evening or it could be some other factor in play. Years ago, Jacks was always crowded when we came to visit.

There's a shared parking lot outside the restaurant, so don't let a crowd scene dissuade you from stopping by. The restaurant is bigger inside than it looks from the outside. We were greeted warmly as we walked in and were seated immediately. Our server was very friendly and cheerful and she happily explained a few highlights on the menu. ASIDE: That Friday Fish Fry has got to be awesome; 'nuff said! Mind you, Smokin'Hubster makes great omelettes. His breakfasts are all good, but the omelettes are a step above. After visiting Sherrie's - and ordering omelettes - he's mentioned more than a few times that he wants to go back for more. He ordered the Farmer's Omelette and secretly wondered if he he should order a side of potatoes. When he 'fessed up on the way home, he admitted that the omelette was way bigger than he expected and he was pretty full as is. I, on the other hand, worried about finishing my Italian Omelette without additional sides. Cudighi is a local treasure and the folks that do it well tend to do it generously. In fact, this might be my favorite way to enjoy cudighi! Too often the bread makes or breaks the sammich, but an omelette this good is a way better showcase of flavors. Super melt-y cheese, lots of 'shrooms and just the right tough of sauce; balanced without being sloppy. The miracle of the toast is still discussed today. Both the Hubster and I are rye toast fiends and when we learned that the bread is made on-site... done and done. It really made a perfect accompaniment to the omelettes. Flavorful without a bulky chew, so it toasts perfectly and melts in your mouth. If I was a toast snob - and I might be - this would be in the top three of the Best Toast List. It's that good!

On the food side, the strength is clearly in the breakfast-style comfort items. Things like omelets, hash browns, and simple diner plates tend to come out hot and filling, with portions that lean generous rather than precise. The quality is solid but not highly refined, more focused on consistency and comfort than technique. Some plates feel better executed than others, but nothing really stands out as exceptional. Service is friendly and straightforward, but it can vary depending on how busy it is. When it is running smoothly, staff are attentive and quick with refills and check-ins. During busier periods, though, the pacing slows and things feel a bit stretched, especially with table timing and order flow. The ambiance is very much old-school diner. It is casual, bright, and functional, with a lived-in feel that matches the style of food. It is not trying to be modern or trendy, and that actually works in its favor. It feels like a place built for regulars, early mornings, and quick, familiar meals rather than long dining experiences. Overall, this is a dependable diner with strong comfort food fundamentals, friendly enough service, and an atmosphere that fits its identity, even if consistency can vary depending on timing and crowd.
