A very cute, rustic little coffee shop with freshly baked goods and charm. I got a latte made with almond milk and sugar free Irish cream and really enjoyed the flavor! The cafe area was a little disheveled but they were also really busy. We had a coupon from our B&B for $10 off a meal at Java Ranch, so you bet your sweet cheeks we wanted to cash it in. Wah, wah, waaaaah. We had two breakfast burritos which were pretty flavorless and not even very warm. The salsa that went on the burritos was the highlight of the meal. There seemed to be some confusion about whether we needed to go up to the counter to pick up our food and coffee, or if it was brought to us, and the confusion resulted in us not picking up our coffee for a while. The cashier and servers should have told us the process. There are some books, aprons, and knick knacks for sale in the front of the restaurant, and everything is severely overpriced. I wanted to buy the string of shotgun shells Christmas lights, 'cause hell, that's pretty awesome, but a string of 12 foot lights was $30. Shoot. This seemed to be one of the only places to find good coffee in downtown Fredericksburg. I could be mistaken. My family decided to go here since we had a $6 per person voucher. The coffee was better than what you would find at the hotel, but not something to really brag about. They have premium drinks like cappuccino or latte if that's what your looking for. I ordered 2 breakfast tacos (1 would have sufficed). I could have lived with less eggs, which probably would have brought out the bacon a little more. Most of my family ordered egg plates. I can't speak on behalf of the taste, but it just didn't look good. Maybe it was the styrofoam plates and the rubbery looking scrambled eggs that turned me off. It also could have been what the sticker price on those plates were too. All in all, if you're in downtown and are looking for coffee and food, then this place will suffice. On to the food... oooooh the food... i had the "huevos rancheros" and i placed that in quotes bc i have no idea how they can get away with calling them huevos rancheros. Basically consisted of powdered eggs (with absolutely no flavor), a side of beans (obviously canned), a flower tortilla, a side of salsa and potatoes. No flavor. Like really, None! When I initially entered Fredericksburg, I was quite disappointed by the one WalMart and nothing else. Drive a little further and you will see the old-timey town people in Austin talk about. Java Ranch is nested in the shops on the main street through town. I stopped in and grabbed a mocha for the road. To be fair, I didn't sit down and take in the setting. They sell Java Ranch postcards and T-shirts as well as coffee. The service is good, and the coffee tastes like coffee. Nothing memorable on either end. They offer all the espresso essentials along with iced coffee and a few luxuries such as almond milk. At $3.50 a cup, its not the cheapest in the world but it is more memorable than a Starbucks. My iced coffee was cold and caffeinated, meeting the qualifications needed for mid afternoon pick-me-up. Overall if you're in the Downtown area of Fredericksburg, Texas then Java Ranch is a great place to stop for a quick coffee, but I would not go out of my way for it. read more
