This is our favorite brunch in Fred. Sam has taken care of us many times and she's wonderful! The whole staff here is top notch. They updated their porch to have more coverage which will be great once summer really hits. Inside is great too. We've sat in all the areas. We went all out for our brunch date (mom & dad time out). Cold brew with vanilla, caramel iced latte... yummmm! We started with zucchini fries and they were hot, crunchy and delicious. I had the brunch burger (it was huge!) with sweet potato fries. I love their sweet potato fries. My husband and I stopped in on a Saturday morning around 8:30 and were seated right away! Our server Cassie greeted us almost immediately and was friendly and attentive from start to finish. She really made the experience. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, substituting bacon for ham, with a biscuit and gravy on the side. The Eggs Benedict was good. I loved the unexpected touch of Swiss cheese, which added a nice twist to a classic dish. The hollandaise was a little on the sour side, but the bacon was cooked perfectly. The biscuit and gravy was the real star of my meal, so good that I almost wish I had ordered it as my main! Definitely getting that next time. My husband went for The Big Ass Sandwich and loved it. Fair warning- it lives up to its name. It's big, it's messy, and it's absolutely worth it. He said the same thing I was thinking: we need to come back. This place is bustling! Even on a Monday morning (granted, it was spring break for many), but plan accordingly as there could be a wait. There's not a lot of parking either; it's like random fields/areas. The overall size of the restaurant isn't all that big either, so be aware of how noisy it could be. Anyway, we ordered a couple pancake plates that were larger in size. Kids said they were fine. Another ordered the eggs and bacon, which consisted of two eggs, a little bacon, toast, and some potatoes. Nothing ground breaking, but seemed sufficient. I ordered the TBLTA, which was a turkey sandwich, bacon, and avocado. The portion seemed reasonable for the price. Loved it! It's been a number of years since our last visit. At that time, they were in a different location. This location is SO much better. Lots of seating - indoors and outdoors. Dog friendly outdoors too. The service - wow. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. Our server, Maria A was amazing. We arrived about 9:30 AM on a Monday morning. Being a holiday, Presidents' Day, it was quite busy. I thought we'd have to wait quite a while but surprisingly there were some open tables inside. Being a nice sunny morning a lot of the outdoor seating was pretty full. Our party of four was seated quickly. Water came, followed quickly by coffee. Someone was always making the rounds with the coffee pot. That was nice. My wife and I shared a breakfast as follows: - California omelette with sourdough toast - Single pancake with blueberries I'd say the omelette was decent. Four out of five. It had good flavor. The way they make them here is slightly dry, but still decent. Next time I'll ask for mine to be less dry on the outside. The pancake was really good. Nice and fluffy and flavorful. We're so happy we returned to Sunset Grill for breakfast this year and we look forward to eating there on our next visit to Fredericksburg. read more

This became our go to brunch spot when we are in Fredricksburg. We were seated immediately because they have a ton of tables, which is a huge plus in this town. We sat on the dog-friendly patio and the service was incredibly quick. The food was 10/10--everything tasted so fresh. I'm a big fan of eggs benedict, so I tried Sunset's "sunsetter benedict" & was not disappointed. The surprise of the dish was the house-made country potatoes that came as a side. They were crisped up just right with the perfect amount of salt & pepper for a simple seasoning. It may be hard to tell from the photos, but the Sunsetter is bigger than most other eggs benedict platters I've had. Many places use English muffins that I'd say are baseball sized, but these were more like softball sized. My wife enjoyed her eggs & bacon platter as well, with 3 strips of thick cut applewood smoked bacon & the same country potatoes. All in all I'd go back to Sunset Grill in a heartbeat on my next visit to Fredericksburg. It's a great food spot with great service IMO! read more

The ratings suggested that this would be a great way to end our weekend in Fredericksburg. The predicted 15 minute wait turned out to only be 10, so off to a good start. The 'bennies' all looked interesting, and we ended up with 2 Josephine and 1 Carlsbad. The orders came out quickly. The eggs were all done well (not "well done"), perfectly runny. One of Josephines was good, although it could have used more brie. The other Josephine was not even hot. Our guess is that because the place is so busy, they queue up some of the popular orders and then they're ready to go. We should have sent it back. The Carlsbad was a unique (to me) take, and the crab cake itself was good. The combination was interesting but didn't become exceptional until I used the lemon that came with my tea to add a little acid to the dish. (I suggested to the server that this would be a great addition to the standard plating.) If we return, we'll be a bit bolder with possible returns. read more

Had an absolutely heavenly breakfast here last weekend. There was a 30 minute wait for a table, but we were able to snag a couple of seats at the bar, so we did not have to wait at all. The ambiance was lively, but boisterous. I had the eggs and ham steak, with a biscuit. The ham was okay, but not what I expected. The eggs were perfectly scrambled, and the biscuit was like a piece of heaven. My husband had the eggs and bacon, with a side of biscuits and gravy. I tried the gravy and loved it. This was one of my favorite meals in Fredericksburg! We were visiting for a fun Girls Weekend getaway and after a night out on Main Street, the food doesn't get better than Sunset Grill to nourish your tummies for another day of winery hopping. It was such a unique omelette with crab, spinach, bell peppers and I don't remember what else besides deliciousness. We shared an amazing breakfast sandwich that I don't remember the name, but the bread was a biscuit and their was a delicious fig jam involved. And finally, we got a side of biscuits and gravy. I also found my new drink here, the Mexican coffee. My friends got the bloody mary and The Maui (mimosa with guava and mango). The drinks here are great and very strong. The service is the only part of this experience that was okay. It is a very popular breakfast location and we showed up at prime brunch time (11:00 AM) on a Sunday morning. We waited roughtly 45 minutes for our table of 3, where they told us we could get a drink at the bar. But the way the restaurant is layed out, getting a drink took 30 minutes, so we were pretty much seated right after we got our drinks. There was a lot of confusion with staff telling us to go to various locations to order drinks before we finally were instructed to a long line by the bathroom, which was confusing because half the line was for the bar and the other half was for the restroom. If they could add maybe someone by the hostess or figure how to set up an outdoor bar, I think that would alleviate a lot of the congestion inside and confusion. Holy Cow! This may be the best breakfast/comfort food ever and certainly in Fredericksburg. If you are a local or just visiting like us it is a must. Their outdoor patio was being expanded and looks like it will be great space, the dining room was super cute and bar area was setup perfect for some morning mimosas. The staff was super fun, and while we didn't try any boozy breakfast drinks they looked great. We tried one slice of banana French toast which was exceptional especially if you have a sweet tooth. I got the special breakfast sandwich and the homemade biscuit it came on melted in your mouth and I'm not sure what they put in their gravy but I think there is crack because it is super addicting. We're greeted by a server shortly after getting the table but not in the friendly way, we had to repeat every words 3 times and not in the friendly way, we felt like she was either in hurry or not interested. I tried to repeat my coffee order 3 times, eventually i let it go. Omelette was well cooked, we got whole wheat bread and house potatoes on the side. They were able to swap these for sweet potato fries for just extra one dollar. There was also a egg surcharge of $1 for two Omelette.
