PLEASE GO!! Don't let the ridiculously long line deter you. Literally the best breakfast around with these massive pancakes (crepes) and the cutest little pastries. There are a lot of tables in the dining room, but it somehow doesn't feel cramped or overwhelming while you're there. They get people through pretty quick considering how long the lines are at all times. The bathrooms are clean and the staff is so sweet. We've never had a bad experience. I prefer the waffles while my husband prefers the "pancakes". They're massive, super thin and rolled up similar to a crepe. We stopped by last Saturday for dine-in breakfast, and were seated after waiting almost an hour - it was busy. Our order took over 20 minutes to get to our table, and no, it was not worth the wait. The biscuit was okay, but the sausage (not really a sausage, more like a patty) was overcooked, as were the scrambled eggs. I have never had eggs as dry as those in my life. The coffee was mediocre, at best. So why three stars? Because we stopped by the following day, this time at their bakery counter, and the pastries we got were to die for. Out of everything, the Nutella crepe stood out the most and hard to go wrong with. The apricot crepe, while highly recommended by others, didn't quite hit the mark for me. Loved it! It's been a few years since we've eaten here. We arrived about 9:15 am on a Friday and there was a line outside. Fortunately, they take names and there are 2 benches to sit on. Our wait was about 15 minutes. Once we were called in, we were seated right away and our drink order was taken and delivered. We were seated in front of the entry door and the fan system above the door was blowing cold air on us. Our server, Lisa was amazing and offered to move us to a table in back, near the restrooms. My first stop in Fredericksburg was obviously at the old German Bakery. It's a well preserved decades old architecture in the Main Street can't definitely be missed. We came during a long weekend and the wait time was 35 minutes. With all the hype, the wait time was totally acceptable. This is the second visit to this place and probably one of the reasons why I will continue coming to Fredericksburg. It's always full of patrons and doesn't seem to slow down. The staff is very attentive, helpful, and friendly so please be kind to them. It's a very laid back and chill vibe type of place. The decor has some pictures of old Germany and inside has country feel to it. In my opinion, they have the best sauerkraut I've tasted out of 15 plus brands that I've already tried. It's slightly sweet but still has that vinegar bite to it. The mustard by itself was delicious and compliments the sausage very nicely. The hash browns were crispy and had a great flavor. The eggs and biscuit were like any other typical restaurant's. On the Belgian plate the German sausage patty was good tasting but could've used a bit of seasoning or salt. The waffle was very delicious. It was light, fluffy, soft, and tasted great. The traditional version had a bland hollandaise that is very thin and not at all tart, while their alternate country version with gravy and sausage was particularly unappetizing. The sausage had an odd appearance and flavor, the gravy appeared to be from a can, all reminiscent of canned pet food, making it inedible. I often have eggs Benedict, but this is the worst, so bad we returned the plate. That said, their take on a German pancake is decent though nothing at all special, in fact amateur using a banana with Nutella. Just fyi, their German pancake and crepe are the same batter, go figure! Overall, there are much better breakfast options available in the area. The wife had a turkey sandwich with potato salad. Coming from a German family she was expecting good things in the potato salad and felt it was a little bit disappointing and bland. We sampled a couple of selections from their bakery on the way out and while they were okay, they didn't knock our socks off either. For example, the chocolate chip cookie was just a plain cookie with some small chocolate chips on top. The ratio of cinnamon and sugar vs the bread was not even. If you prefer a less sweet and more bready cinnamon roll... then this one is for you 4/5: cream cheese pastry and strawberry filled pastry: was good! Childhood friends who had not seen each other for decades, shared a meal of Jagerschnitzel and memories! Back a few years ago, this German bakery was a place to eat breakfast because of their German strudel and other goodies. I must confess that its been many years ago when I visited this eatery. It was surprising to see the lack of pastries for sale there. However, it was after lunch and it was close to closing time. As for the food, it was average at best. The conversation was the main entree really! We were a big party so we sat on the bakery side, away from the main dining area. It was perfect! The service was efficient and the main dining area was full of people when we came in but it was almost 3 pm when we left and there were a few diners like us. We literally closed the place down. Overall, this place was great for our reunion and reminiscing about the past. The food was ok. The pastries, the jury is out. After driving past this spot for a year and always seeing folks waiting outside we finally stopped in. We waited the standard 30+ minutes for a table which is expected. The floors were covered in leaves. Looked like no one swept them since yesterday possibly and no one is planning on doing so while they are open. The decor was honestly depressing. It could be more inviting. While watching everyone busily run around we noticed that they could optimize the layout a bit. Where they keep the menus almost in the back should be closer to the front or at least the host stand. Alright- the food... I was deciding between the breakfast croissant and something else. Our waitress said the croissant is better so I went with that. It was ok, the croissant was very large and they make it in house, regular scrambled eggs, cheese that I'm pretty sure was craft singles, and bacon. It also came with breakfast potatoes. It left a lot to be desired. My mom got the biscuits and gravy and it was swimming and gravy. You could not even discontinuous a biscuit. My husband had the schnitzel with an egg on top which was more expensive than the one from Altdorf down the street and lower quality. The coffee was good. We also had the German pancakes and that was likely our favorite part of the meal. I don't think I'll eat here again... there are better options (though not many) around town. read more

They come with a side of homemade ranch as well. I ordered a croissant egg and cheese sandwich with home style fries. My hubby ordered a cheese omelette with spinach, mushroom and onion. Both were absolutely delicious! My favorite/highlight without a doubt was the fried green tomatoes! Oh and last but not least, we also shared a German pancake which is essentially a "crepe" flat (pancake) but packed with flavor! I told my hubby it tasted like a churro to me!
