    Breakfast Croissant with Hashbrowns

The food was really good and the portions were huge and worth the money! We had Rebeca as our waitress and she was amazing, she even gave me a dessert for my birthday and was very attentive. When we arrived, the entire place was packed and there was a long line to get in but we only had to wait 30 minutes to be seated and it went by fairly quickly. Would definitely recommend this place to try and would return the next time I am in Fredericksburg!

We came in for breakfast line was not that long so we got lucky. We did get some pastries before we sat down and boy am I glad we did cause by the time we finished eating a lot of them were gone. We were a group of 6 had a little wait prob like 15-20 min so not bad. Inside is small but food is worth is it. I got the country Benedict's they were good and a half order of the French toast and boy the best I've ever had. Others got eggs Benedict and biscuit and gravy.

Upon arriving in Fredericksburg, we were hungry and very ready to eat a heart breakfast. The Old German Bakery was exactly what I needed. The interior is small and welcoming and our server was warm and extremely helpful. I appreciated her recommendations and tips for ordering. I had the Opa's breakfast and it was great. The sausage, eggs and hash browns really hit the spot and my substation of a waffle instead of the biscuit satisfied my sweet tooth. I really liked that our server recommended me getting the jam on the side as I ended up not wanting to use it and solely used the syrup. Highly recommend to give this place a try !

On a rainy Sunday, we stopped in for lunch. There was about a 15 minute wait for a table, but once we were seated, our food was out quickly. I liked my bratwurst plate, but the brats were just a little dry. My husband really enjoyed his Jägerschnitzel, especially with the red cabbage. I ate about half my plate and saved the rest for later and it was NOT good reheated, so I recommend sharing a plate if you have a small appetite. We also got some items from the bakery to take home. Our families absolutely loved the danishes. I didn't really enjoy the meringue, I thought they were a little stale, but everything else was tasty!

Stopped by Old German Bakery and Restaurant in Fredericksburg for a late breakfast, and overall, it was a lovely experience. We tried a variety of dishes: pancakes, scrambled eggs, a veggie omelet, and two types of crepes: the apricot (which is one of their popular picks) and the Nutella. Out of everything, the Nutella crepe stood out the most and hard to go wrong with. The apricot crepe, while highly recommended by others, didn't quite hit the mark for me. It just lacked that balance of flavor I was hoping for. The rest of the breakfast staples eggs, omelet, and pancakes were solid and satisfying, nothing mind-blowing but definitely enjoyable. What really makes this place shine is the ambience and location, right on Main Street, with views of the charming boutiques and shops around. The service was warm and attentive too.

Loved it! It's been a few years since we've eaten here. We arrived about 9:15 am on a Friday and there was a line outside. Fortunately, they take names and there are 2 benches to sit on. Our wait was about 15 minutes. Once we were called in, we were seated right away and our drink order was taken and delivered. We were seated in front of the entry door and the fan system above the door was blowing cold air on us. Our server, Lisa was amazing and offered to move us to a table in back, near the restrooms. Except for the restroom traffic, this location was perfect for us. Thank you Lisa! My wife and I each ordered a breakfast plus a German pancake to be brought out later. We had: - Country Benedict - Opa's Sausage Breakfast Both were excellent. I asked for my eggs to be soft scrambled eggs and that's what I got :) We ate about half our meals and packed the rest up for breakfast tomorrow. We were too full for the German pancake, so we asked Lisa to not place the kitchen order. When we paid at the counter, we ordered a sweet bakery treat to go. Thank you Old Herman Bakery and Restaurant and Lisa for a great meal with great service.

My first stop in Fredericksburg was obviously at the old German Bakery. It's a well preserved decades old architecture in the Main Street can't definitely be missed. We came during a long weekend and the wait time was 35 minutes. With all the hype, the wait time was totally acceptable. Once we got the table, we could see the ambiance has been well preserved as well and haven't modernized and loved that part. My order: Nutella banana crepe German pancake Cheese omelette Veggie omelette with biscuit Apricot crepe My favorite was the apricot crepe and it's something that I haven't tried before. Nutella banana crepe is something that could never go wrong. The omelette were well cooked. The veggies sautéed well. Love the amalgamation of the eggs and cheese and veggies. To top it off , the biscuits weren't dry nor hard. German pancake with maple syrup was something new that I hadn't tried before and it was different and way from the regular American pancakes. It had powdered sugar on top of it. Bakery was almost sold out so couldn't try their cookies and pastries.

Great place for breakfast or lunch especially on a Tuesday when the lines are shorter and they have reduced priced bread and pastries. I usually get the ham sandwich but everything is good and the portions are big. Reasonable prices. Servers are friendly.

Amazing!!! My advice is go early!!! Before the lines!!! Tried German Pancakes for the first time, so good! Definitely try it with lemon and powdered sugar I will have to come back and get some baked goods.

This is the second visit to this place and probably one of the reasons why I will continue coming to Fredericksburg. It's always full of patrons and doesn't seem to slow down. The staff is very attentive, helpful, and friendly so please be kind to them. It's a very laid back and chill vibe type of place. The decor has some pictures of old Germany and inside has country feel to it. In my opinion, they have the best sauerkraut I've tasted out of 15 plus brands that I've already tried. It's slightly sweet but still has that vinegar bite to it. The mustard by itself was delicious and compliments the sausage very nicely. The hash browns were crispy and had a great flavor. The eggs and biscuit were like any other typical restaurant's. On the Belgian plate the German sausage patty was good tasting but could've used a bit of seasoning or salt. The waffle was very delicious. It was light, fluffy, soft, and tasted great. If you enjoy sauerkraut, you must definitely try this establishment and if you don't you still need to give it a try!

Visited the old German town in Fredericksburg with my parents. We loved the service ambiance and food here. The servers were nice and attentive. We were seated pretty quickly and did was served fast as well. Drinks were filled without being asked. We will be back!

Very busy and popular restaurant with a large line. They serve some standard breakfast items like eggs, bacon, biscuits and more. They have a few German inspired dishes like pancakes and sausages. I tried the Oma's plate with eggs sausage and a pancake. It was very good. They have some breads and pastries for sale too that you can order at a separate counter. It's not an authentic German restaurant. If you're expecting that, it's really an American restaurant. I'm glad we went it was a good choice.l and a cozy spot.

Years ago I had a pumpernickel kolache with a German sausage. Does this restaurant still serve those?

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately at this time, we do not carry this particular kolache.

The chef toasted the English muffin properly, giving each bite a satisfying crunch. The twin crab cakes were also stellar - moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. The yolk inside the perfectly poached eggs ran ever slightly, blending with the luxuriously lemony Hollandaise sauce. I decided to pair it with a classic lime daiquiri, served straight up in a coupe glass and garnished with a slice of dehydrated lime. If that's not your fancy, friendly bartender Fred can conjure up almost any brunch drink you can think of, including a piquant Bloody Mary that to me tastes of ancho.

Our server was a lovely older gentleman, who tried to accommodate us despite issues with the kitchen. The weather was nice and we enjoyed sitting outside with live music. Not so good things: Sitting outside was nice, except the musicians had their music way too loud for the size of the space and it was a restaurant, not a concert venue. We literally had to yell to hear each or the server. The kitchen was backed up so it took forever for our food to arrive. The food was also pretty expensive. We don't visit Fredericksburg very often, but I think we'll stick with Auslander when we want German food.

The brewery was the first place I ever had a scotch egg, my dad would get a small beer flight, maybe we'd get a brat, he made it fun. I'm pretty sure it had just opened back then. We got into town, checked in at the Trueheart Hotel, and immediately walked to the brewery because I was so excited. I probably went in to this with the unrealistic expectation that it would be the same as when I was a kid. It had a great start. The hostess was nice, and our server was, too. I wish we had gotten to sit in the back room with the long tables, We started with the beer flight and a scotch egg. The beer flight was okay. I was expecting really good German beers, mind-blowing, but these were just fine. A pale ale, an IPA, a flat porter were on the list, just not a memorable selection, although the red ale was good. The flight was a good price, though. For our appetizer, I wasn't expecting such a small scotch egg for $9. I mean, it was really small. I've been to several places around my area for scotch eggs, and they're usually $11-12 for two and they're properly sized. But we're on vacation and I wanted nostalgia so fine. It was delicious, and the creole mustard the scotch egg comes with was divine. More on that later. For our meals we tried both schnitzels. I was disappointed they don't have spaetzle, I'm pretty sure they used to. My boyfriend had the schinken and I had the jager. I don't like ham but his was infinitely better because of the gravy. The gravy on the jager schnitzel I got was heavy with some seasoning, maybe sage. It's all I could taste, and I couldn't just push the gravy off because my pork was fried to death. I barely ate any of mine. The sides we got (you get two per plate) were German potato salad, fries, onion rings, and vegetable medley. The fries and onion rings were great, especially when dipping in the creole mustard we saved from the scotch egg. The German potato salad is supposed to be sweet and sour and my boyfriend usually likes it, but this was way sweet, he wasn't a fan. The vegetable medley was good, but seemed really out of place as a side, normally with schnitzel you'd expect green beans or a salad or something, we got broccoli and squash. They did have a side salad, but it was $5. Not sure why a side salad couldn't just replace the two sides for no upcharge. I will say the rolls were awesome. At the end our server let us sit and hang out for a few minutes, he didn't rush us. We asked if they sell the creole mustard in bottles but they don't, so he said we could pay $5 for a togo container of it. We got probably a cup, so I was fine with that, I really loved it that much. We paid, I noticed he charged us $5 for tarter sauce that we didn't have, figured it was the only way to ring up the mustard. We left with our prized creole mustard. Cut to this weekend when we opened it to make a sandwich, and what we actually got was tarter sauce, so somewhere along the way he'd forgotten what we asked for. We live 200 miles from Fredericksburg, there's no fixing that, but maybe that's on me because I should have checked it. They really should sell bottles of that mustard, it's very good. Overall, it just wasn't the experience I was expecting. It's not the same, it's been over 30 years so I totally understand, and I did try to be fair with my critique. It wasn't great, it was just okay.

Since there are no business owner responses, the problems could be persisting. However, we've enjoyed our time here in the past so we thought we'd try it again. We got here at 5 pm on a Thursday and the place was mostly empty. That usually translates into better service and likely a better prepared meal as well. Sure enough, this theory was correct. We had two craft beers on the table within three minutes followed by Ruben fritters five minutes after that. The menu here is pretty simple with the expected German twist to it. We just stuck to a salad and burger. The salad was fresh and good, but the burger was pretty average and you have to add your own mayo and mustard. Even by adding cheese and mushrooms it still fell within the three star range and the fries were just OK. The beers were correct to style, but the hoppier beers were slightly tame. It's pretty much three stars overall, but the service was great so 31/2*. I'd still come back and try something else off the menu before the weekend and before 6.

WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD!!!…read more If I could give this place 0 stars I would.Me and my family came here while on vacation in Fredericksburg. The place seemed to have a fun and lively atmosphere, but the was its only saving grace. When our server came out he seemed to be under some kind of influence. He informed us he was new so we gave him the benefit of the doubt. My dad jokingly said we were gonna leave on that matter and I wish we would have. For starters, our tea came out sour and UNDRINKABLE. We had to send them back in that account. Additionally, when we asked for lemon for our drinks, the server brought out ONE lemon in his hand. No bowl, not in the glass, just carrying it. Our food came out staggered and we had to constantly remind them of our order. The food itself was mediocre at best and we were heavily disappointed. !!! For the cherry on top, when our waiter was bringing out my sisters plate he ATE A FRY directly off the plate RIGHT in front of us. !!! At this point we were irritated and ready to leave. We ask for the check and were overcharged for 2 extra drinks. We made the server correct the order and comp the fries he ate. While waiting for the check, I went to go have a talk with the manger (something we NEVER do). The manager was stunned, but unapologetic. We were offered no compensation or even a "sorry" Once again WORST DINNING EXPERIENCE EVER
