Found this gem of a spot during our visit to Virginia Beach. The outdoor vibes here are perfect to enjoy a nice breakfast and coffee of your choice. Great place to bring your dog, they provided a water bowl for my puppy and had tables in the shade to keep her cool. I was content drinking cold brew as is, sometimes cream or sugar is needed when the coffee beans aren't that great, but I really enjoyed this cold beverage for my morning boost. I ordered the Wipeout which has, eggs, pepper jack cheese, onion, bell peppers, tomatoes, avocado & spinach grilled on turano bread, super delicious! 10 out of 10 recommend! read more

Coffee was really good, but the bailout breakfast wrap was just okay. Not a ton of flavor and very watery so it fell apart. We sat outside but the flies were insanely bad, so we left. read more

Yum yum to the coffee and desserts! A nice quaint cafe. I always go for the salted Carmel latte and it never disappoints. Strong coffee flavor, not too sweet and that right touch of saltiness. The owner came out when I was looking at the baked goods and took the time to explain how he enjoyed making the desserts. He's French so I poked at him on French desserts to see if he makes them and he said he would for me!! Just give him advanced notice and he'll have it ready. Now that's the way to my heart! That's service! He was kind and thoughtful. So Every time I'm in the area I will make it my business to go and support this shop! read more

I've looked back at this review many times and never saw the managers response until recently. Unfortunately it's not true. Maybe some of the girls were in training, maybe they were fielding lots of takeout orders? However at the time of my original, posting there was no outdoor seating. Having been a waitress, I'm very aware of extenuating circumstances that might affect service. There's no way this manager knows who I am, or where I was sitting, and to describe the situation as if they knew, is crazy. It's not a big place and I've been seated in many different areas. There's a almost no way to not see everything happening around you from almost any location. read more

Stopped here for breakfast on our last day in Virginia Beach, and I am so glad we did! We arrived about 4 minutes before they opened (at 8am on Labor Day) and the owner was super nice; he greeted us and personally let us inside to be seated. Our server was very helpful and attentive. She helped us make our selections; I ordered the Big Kahuna and my husband had The Lighthouse. The Big Kahuna was good, but damn....The Lighthouse was where it was at. My salted caramel latte was also perfection. Overall, a really solid (dog-friendly!) breakfast spot. We got to say hi to a few cute pooches on our way out. read more

I was super impressed with our experience at Java Surf this past weekend! We wanted to get a quick bite before an event at the convention center and Java Surf was our pick and I'm so glad it was! We were quickly seated by the window and were able to take in all the fun themed decor! I loved the surf boards and all the decor items and enjoyed looking around at everything while we waited for our breakfast! I began with the cortado as my drink which was served beautifully with the foam in the shape of a heart! I'm a sucker for coffee art so I loved this! I had to add a few packets of sugar to sweeten this up but it was really good! Their coffee options are great and if you leave their less than caffeinated then it's your own fault! "A" and I both decided to build our own breakfast sandwiches and we both really liked ours! I did the everything bagel with cheddar cheese and turkey sausage and he did the above but on a croissant! They were great and really filling too as they were stuffed with egg, cheese and the turkey sausage which I thought was a good value at $8 each! I also got a side of chips to go with the sandwich which was a perfect addition! Our food arrived quickly after ordering and we were in and out of there in 40 minutes or less which was exactly what we had wanted to do! Again, I was impressed by the decor, the menu selections and the taste of the food! Java Surf is a great local spot that should be on your radar to check out! read more

We were staying right around the corner so thought we'd pop in for a drip and a latte. I got the lavender latte and it's one of the best I've ever had! So smooth, and just the right amount of lavender: herbal without being over-the-top floral. My husband had the drip and said it was smooth and tasted great, no bitterness. The barista was super friendly and helpful, and the surf vibe of the shop is really fun. Would definitely come back! read more

How in the world have we lived in Virginia Beach for 5 years and have not been to this place before today? This is the hidden coffee gem I have been looking for. It has been a long time since I have had a real latte! A great cup of coffee can be enjoyed without any flavored creamers or sugar added, and this cafe has some amazing coffee! The food was delicious! Great selection and they even have vegetarian and vegan options. I also noticed them preparing some freshly squeezed orange juice. If you are in the area and you have never been here you have to check them out! Definitely a place I will be visiting on a regular basis. read more

I've been here a couple time and thought I'll leave them another review. The hostess is still extremely nice and great. The food and coffee is still consistently good. I ordered The Lighthouse melt and it was delicious!! Only one issue the server that we had this time seemed new and took our order and I didn't see her again until she dropped off the bill. Someone else brought out our coffee and food and I was able the stop someone else because i needed something. Still a great place and I will return. read more

My favorite thing about Java surf is the music and atmosphere. This place gives me all the feels of my early twenties living at the beach and I love it. The lattes are ten times better than your chain coffee houses and the staff is borderline family friendly. The decor was modern, beachy and very clean. read more

Stopped in for a couple of latte's with friends, ordered and had a seat inside to sit and talk. After about 20 minutes of sitting we noticed that the person who took our order was just sitting and talking to one of his friends who stopped in and no latte production in sight. When we finally asked if we are going to get our coffee he said ' oh yeah- I forgot you ordered- we were literally the only customers in the shop at that time. He also seemed genially bothered we disturbed him to make us our order - no apologies or sorry about that's... So bottom line- took us 30 minutes to get some mediocre latte's and split a muffin that tasted like it had been sitting on the counter for a week. Won't be back... read more

I was excited to try out Java Surf Cafe & Espresso Bar. I liked the vibes and that they allow dogs on the patio. I was sort of disappointed with the lighthouse melt because I had seen all the photos on Yelp, but was surprised to see that it looked different now. It was good, a little spicier and crispier than I expected. Wait was longer than expected considering it wasn't as busy as the weekends. Not sure if they switched up the menu. Outside dining is self serve in terms of getting your utensils and putting away your plates (like Panera). read more

Honestly they are only getting 2 stars because, the girl who helped us was super nice. But we arrived at Java surf at 11:20am ordered our food and coffee at the same time. It took them 45 minutes to finally realize they never brought us our coffee. And then it them 1.5 hours because they lost our order. The establishment was not busy and had over 6 girls rotating bringing out food and drinks to customers. We not approached by anyone during this time. Good customer service would involve someone asking if we needed something or checking in on the customer. Food was good, customer service not the best. read more

A friend & I tried this place yesterday, looking for a nice cappuccino and maybe a pastry. We went inside and were told we had to go outside to order but we could bring our food back inside, which made no sense. We went back outside ordered a cappuccino, latte, muffins and had to stand around in the wind/rain while they made the order inside, then brought it back outside. We asked for our coffee's in a mug. They said no can do. Must be paper cup. It was a circus at the place with about 5-6 young workers standing around inside. We parked next to the Java Surf building in a lot that was attached to the painted side of Java surf. When we came out less than an hour later my car had been towed by a local predatory towing company that apparently does hourly patrols past the lot waiting for unsuspecting Java Surf customers to park there and then they immediately tow them. I had to pay $145 to get my car out. The towing company clerk advised there were designated Java Surf parking spots in the lot, but apparently it's anyone's guess which spots are safe. This experience was simply dreadful. read more

Java Surf is my favorite coffee shop by far!!! The food was so delicious i was thinking about it three days later. The hot coffe was very well done with none of that nasty burned pot taste a lot of coffee spots have. I have yet to have an iced coffee from them but if its as good as their other items then i cant wait to try. The atmosphere isnt really one where you would grab a cup and do some work, its more of a place where you grab a couple friends and have a good time. Parking is pretty bad but its totally worth it for the mouth watering food and the top shelf coffee. If only Java Surf was closer to where I lived, Starbucks would NEVER see me again! read more

Don't waste your money or your time. The owner was extremely rude and the food was mediocre. We came here on a Thursday morning with family and placed 3 separate orders. One order came right away. The second order came after 45 minutes. The third order never came. When we went to ask they gave us 2 free cookies and said the order didn't print. When we went to ask again they gave us our money back and cancelled the order without telling us. When we asked for the food the owner told us to "get out of my store" and go somewhere else if we wanted "free food". Such poor customer service to yell at customers who waited an hour for food. read more

I'm not a coffee drinking so my review is primarily based on the food and service. I used to go to the Java Surf location at La Promenade, but when it closed, I turned to the ViBe location. I was pleasantly surprised to see Dwayne, the owner, in the restaurant on a Thursday morning. It's not often that I get to interact with a restaurant owner unless something special is happening. He and my server was so friendly and welcoming. I would return to Java Surf solely for the warm atmosphere. My favorite thing to order is the Hot Mess Scramble. Its a bit of everything, plus fresh pico de gallo. On my most recent visit, I ordered The Mediterranean wrap. I've found that the food at Java Surf fills you up without making you feel like a glutton. Like I said, I'm not a coffee drinker so my go-to is usually a Chai Tea Latte. On a cold day, definitely go for the S'mores Hot Chocolate. It's thick and rich, the way hot chocolate should be. read more

Bold statement: best coffee at the Oceanfront. Java Surf consistently makes the best coffee, especially lattes. My go-to is the iced salted caramel latte but all of the flavors are delicious! I've recently been getting my drinks with almond milk or oatmilk - so there are several non-dairy options for those looking for alternatives. Lunch and breakfast food items are delicious and the portions are generous. I most recently got the custom breakfast sandwich with egg, pepper jack, bacon, avocado and sriracha mayo (!) on an everything bagel. SO GOOD. The unique vibe and great atmosphere is very VB; the outdoor seating by the Onietonie mural is super fun. Awesome experience, always! read more

Loving the new cafe on Mediterranean!!! This shop has been busy the past few times when I have visited, but never more than a 5min wait. The menu hasn't strayed from the original cafe, it still has bagel melts and panini's. I did see that they are offering more baked goods and added a few more salads to the menu. Drinks are always superb, current obsession is the chai latte (spicy). Can't go wrong with any of the coffee's as that is their specialty, Im a smore's fan!!! The staff is awesome too, ordered a bagel melt last week and it came out alittle to melted (burnt). I didn't even have to say anything, the waitress came over an took care of it before I could open my mouth! Great service!! The owners are just as catering and fully want you to enjoy your experience .You can see them their any given day, they truly love what they do. Keep local businesses alive!!! The owners and staff are friendly and really try to get to know you. I keep coming back because the service is phenomenal and it feels like home~ read more

Stopped on our way out of VB on a Sunday morning. We were sat immediately with water already on the table. It's more of a quick eats place. I think we were in an out in about a half hour. Got the Hawaii melt and it was amazing. So much cheese and just a great way to start the morning! The lighthouse melt also came out and looked amazing. We stopped by here to enjoy a nice cup of coffee. It was our first time coming here. The coffee shop has a very 'chillaxed' vibe. We felt the coffee was over priced but obviously priced due to their oceanfront location. Dave was contemplating getting a breakfast sandwhich however was unsure it was worth $10. So opted to pass on it. We noticed no one else that came by ordered breakfast either, just coffee. Although it was a chill little spot we probably wouldn't choose this place as our first preference if we are at the oceanfront. read more

Just scrumptious! I visited Java Surf Cafe & Espresso Bar after making myself a list of coffee shops I wanted to visit as a form of self-care for myself. This was the first one I visited and WOW did it deliver. I was able to sit inside (rainy day) with my book, and order breakfast and coffee. I got "The Frank" AKA the everything bagel with lox and capers, paired with a coconut hazelnut cappuccino. Now let me tell you, I am from Jersey so bagels are hard to please in my eyes, but this bagel met my standards! The bagel was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, the lox was fresh and the capers were perfect. I know everyone thinks the first sip of their coffee is euphoric, but THIS. SIP. WAS. EVERYTHING. The coffee was rich and flavorful, no short of putting a smile on my face. Overall, my experience here was great. The service was everything you would need, the food was delicious, the coffee amazing. And to top it off, the music playing was upbeat and sort of not what you would expect from a coffee shop, but it fit very well. I would bring my girlfriends to this coffee shop any time they visited. read more

Really rude owner. Waited 20-30 minutes for my food and asked for an update & was met with a rude response about how they're busy and I have to wait. Then the owner came out with my food 2 seconds late & said no one could find me so it's just been sitting up there even though I was right outside in the outdoor area waiting. Horrible customer service. Was shocked. Also the breakfast sandwich was $16..... never coming back. read more

At one point near the end of our meal, we asked for a box and our check. Instead of bringing it over, the waitresses stood around talking with other waitresses, while we continued to wait. After sitting there for quite a while, we eventually had to ask for the check and box, a second time. Throughout the meal the service was inconsistent. We had three different waitresses checking on us, but were left to sit for about 30 minutes alone at one point, and it took almost 20 to have our order taken, once we ordered, we had to request our appetizer again, after waiting another 20 or so minutes. Upon asking, again, we found out they were out of part of the appetizer we ordered. After that it came out quick. The food, however, was excellent and definitely the highlight of the experience. That's why this review is disappointing to write -- the kitchen is clearly doing a great job. I just hope the service side improves, because it didn't match the quality of the food.

That sense of memory carries forward at Belvedere South inside the tony Moxy Virginia Beach Oceanfront hotel. The new space honors the past without freezing it in time. Bright blue walls set against crisp white instantly recall the diner's cheerful spirit. Large windows allow light to flood the space. Cushy banquettes are a comfortable welcome, inviting you to settle in and linger. The menu stays true to its roots with classic breakfast and lunch dishes that feel familiar and reassuring. The restaurant has a great oceanfront location and the food was good, but our experience was significantly impacted by how staff handled my service dog. We initially sat outside, but constant biting flies made it difficult to enjoy our meal, so we moved inside. Shortly afterward, an assistant manager approached us and attempted to remove us because of my service dog. My dog was clearly identifiable as a service animal, quietly lying at my feet, fully under control, and not bothering anyone. As a Disabled Veteran, I should not have had to explain ADA service animal laws in order to eat breakfast. The burden should not fall on guests to educate restaurant management about federal disability protections. What should have been a happy and memorable morning before my wedding became stressful and upsetting. The issue was eventually resolved, and we were allowed to remain, but only after I had to advocate for my legal rights. Because of that experience, we chose not to return to dine inside the restaurant for the remainder of our stay. The food and location were good, but the lack of service animal awareness by management seriously detracted from the experience. I strongly recommend additional ADA and service animal training for all staff so future guests do not experience the same treatment.

She pointed at our table and the hostess just shrugged and put another huge bite in her mouth. I saw the whole debacle go down with the hostess. My husband even pointed it out and the supervisor replied with oh no, we had two orders in for the same waffle. Really! It's been almost 30 minutes and my food didn't come out. Really! I informed her I was done and no longer wanted the waffle. The server brought it out a few minutes later, and informed I wasn't being charged for the waffle. I had her box it up as I was done and paying. I never ate the waffle, we had drove over an hour to try this place. I won't go back. The food was subpar and nothing to rave about. It's just sad that they have a hostess who wants to shove food in her mouth and staff who are not honest. I will just continue to enjoy the hospitality and great food at Not Another Pancake House in Williamsburg where people always have a smile and care about their customers.
