Boy, is Colattao a place to be on a weekend! I saw the busy parking lot, but found a spot pretty easily, as I walked up I saw the no laptop rule on weekends due to crowds, and once I opened the door I was greeted by a line snaked to the door of about 15 people in front of me. I almost bailed, but it moved quickly and probably only waited about 5-10 minutes total. There is a ton of seating inside, each nook and cranny seems to have a different feel, there are bar seats in front of the windows to maximize seating and there are comfy leather chairs by the fireplace and a mix of nooks in the back areas with decor and mood lighting. Definitely the thing home-y coffee shops are made of and there isn't another like this in the area that comes to mind. Friendly cashier and a gorgeous, stuffed glass case filled with cookies, cheesecakes, babka, muffins and many other delicious treats. All looked wonderful. They have about 5-6 warm sandwiches and seasonal monthly changing coffee flavors above and beyond the normal menu. Vibes inside are strong - I LOVED the decor and the comfy feel with a fireplace in the center, mismatched chairs and wall art and beautiful odds and unique ends from all over. It's really cool. I went lite on this trip as I had just finished brunch with a friend. My iced oat milk latte (large) was pretty watery and only tasted like oat milk with no espresso so, I'll have to give it another try on a day not so busy. I wouldn't come specifically for the coffee based upon that experience, more for vibes and pastries to hang out during the week if I find myself in the area. But, based solely upon that, I would 100% come back.
Heading here mid morning on a Thursday during the summer, I was absolutely astounded that it was as busy as it was! A few seats were left, but it was truly a coffee shop where folks were chatting, working, and enjoying a cup of coffee and it was absolutely invigorating. I had a spicy mocha and snagged a pistachio cruffin as well as orange scone and every single thing was absolute luscious! The scone was perfectly baked, the coffee the perfect mix of decadent and spicy, and the cruffin big enough to share with the chocolate and pistachio flavors blended brilliantly. I can't believe I haven't been here until now and I absolutely must go back, although I shudder to think of how insane it would be on the weekend. I wish it were a wee bit less busy because the interior decor was a whole mood, one I'm here for and would absolutely love to sip a beverage and enjoy, without the hubbub.
The place outside look so calm till you come close and see the long line. Inside you feel the vibrant and festive decoration from World Cup and cozy and warm ambience put together. It's a warm active environment but warm, classy and vintage decors. They also sell boho merch. The cashier to the waiters are busy but easy to talk to. The food offering are large and looks so delicious laid out. The muffins and pastries are large but not expensive. My chicken apricot sandwich is a must. The pesto mozzarella sandwich is really rich. The mango cheesecake yummy. My cold mocha coffee delicious. The muffins are large but taste stands out. I truly enjoyed my experience here and plan to bring back my friends and family. Thank you Colattao for this rich experience. This place is a must visit in Va. Beach.
Always great, friendly service at this beautiful place!! The drinks and pastries are always so fresh and delicious!! We ordered the Chai latte ($6.75), the Dulce Banana ($9), the Coco Beach ($8), the marshmallow cookie dough cake ($8.75), the Triple Berry tart ($5.95), and the small box of 8 Alfajors ($12). Everything was fresh and flavorful, however, as with everything else, pricier as well!
The coziest coffee shop in VB! From the baked goods, to the specialty drinks, Colattao has such great offerings. There is something for everyone here! I loved the cozy atmosphere here, especially the cute mismatched plates, mugs, and saucers. It feels like you're stepping into someone's chic and welcoming home. The cheese danish & leek and parmesan were absolutely delightful. My husband loved his vanilla cinnamon horchata and I loved my house coffee. Definitely the best hot coffee I've had in VB. We will be back!
Came back home to visit family and wanted to check this place out. I first tried going around 10am on a Friday and it was packed. No seating available and the line was literally to the door. I tried again around 11am on Sunday and it was still very busy, but the line was a little shorter and we were able to find a seat. I'd definitely come prepared for a packed house, because a friend warned me about that before I went and they were not lying. That being said, the atmosphere was great. The decor and overall vibes were really unique and honestly just nice to look at. Everything was clean, well run, and the staff was helpful. The cashier answered all my questions and helped guide me toward my breakfast choice. I ordered the chicken and apricot sandwich and it was delicious. It had chicken, cheese, and what I'm assuming was an apricot spread. There wasn't an egg on it and I did expect one, but it honestly still tasted great without it (not sure if adding one is an option). I also got the churro latte and it was really good. Everything felt intentional, even down to the plates and cups. You can tell a lot of thought went into the experience. The only downside is the seating situation. The place fills up fast, and once it gets crowded it's hard not to feel rushed when people are standing over you waiting for a table. Overall though, the food, coffee, and vibe were worth it.
Colattao is everything you want in a coffee house. Cozy, gorgeous decor, delicious food and of course, amazing coffee! The seating is a little tight because it's a little smaller inside with usually a LOT of people. But for good reason! The service is nice, the bakery items and food are delicious and uniquely flavoured! While it is a little bit pricey, it is definitely worth it in my opinion and worth the extra wait time (don't forget to tip your hard working baristas/servers!!)
Yes! Go here and try everything. That's what we did, we ordered a little bit of everything and it was so good. They redid the location so there is more room to sit and relax. They gave a bunch of options when I had questions and I'm so glad they did. What we got: The apricot chicken sandwich 10/10 The churro latte - extra sweet 9/10 Beef empanada - 10/10 Strawberry cheesecake - 8.5/10 Apple cruffin - 7/10 (needs more filling) Pan - 4/10 Salted Maple Latte - 6/10
Fantastic food and service. The vibe in the place transports you away from the outside world immediately upon entry. Simply the one of the best establishments in the area.
I've been hoping to try this place since my sister tried taking me here for my birthday but they were wrapped around the corner busy. Today, even though busy we were able to get in, find a spot for 3, and order within 20 minutes. We tried several things, but my favorites would be the Apricot Chicken Cheddar sandwich on a Croissant, the Churro Latte, beef empanada and strawberry cream cheesecake. We also had the bacon,egg, and cheese sandwich on a croissant, Apple Cruffin, and Cheese Pan. The Apricot Chicken Cheddar is the perfect balance between sweet and savory, where the Churro Latte was sweet and perfect amount of cinnamon. The cheesecake, I normally am not one to jump on finishing a dish by myself but there I was licking the fork clean. The flavor reminded me of the strawberry cream hard candies from when I was younger. The cheese pan is basic bread, good but I wouldn't grab it again. The bacon, egg, and cheese croissant didn't have much flavor beyond what you'd expect, I still really liked it though. The apple cruffin, was not too sweet but good nonetheless, I wish it had more apple but it was nice. Service from what I was able to see was great, they even had someone walking around picking trash left on the ground. My sister was the one to wait in line and order so other than the young ladies who brought out our food or picked up the plates from the table I couldn't not say. Everyone I did encounter was very pleasant. The cafe is small, but there are a lot of areas for different size groups. The look is very cozy feeling and we enjoyed our spot by the fire.
Colattao Coffee House 10/10! - I got the bacon, egg, & cheese which was amazing 10/10 perfectly cooked and the croissant was nice and soft - Also got the white chocolate mint matcha iced, yummy - Also got the crumb cake which was so yummmy - prepare to get there early like around 8 or 9 before things sell out, there will be a line - the line was even out the door and they didn't have anymore tables - great service!
Such a great spot!! A cozy environment for journaling or reading on a rainy day, or meeting up with a friend. Friendly staff, creative drink options, and plenty of treats makes the perfect morning hangout spot.
Delicious food, amazing coffee, great vibes! No wonder this place is always so busy. I really like their inventive lattes (and that you can ask for them half sweet if you don't love super sweet stuff).

The ambiance is stunning with warm lighting, calm and inviting vibes! It's a small shop but they use every inch perfectly without compromising that vibe! Beautiful pastries I've only looked at longingly so far, and I have enjoyed a few delicious lattes that have changed seasonally. read more
Been here a bunch now! Coffee is definitely the best in the area. Pastries are also good- tried the jalapeno cheese pretzel because it looked great. The dough was very crossaint like so it through me for a loop. Good flavor though. read more
Sophia and I made the trek to Virginia Beach to have breakfast here at this little spot in the Haygood/Independence area. I forgot how I found out about this spot, but they've been around in the area since 2023 and actually reopened after remodeling months ago. Let's see how this visit turned out. When we parked in the lot, we saw a few people sitting outside. Mind you, we got there before 8:30am. Luckily, they had tables available. The decor inside was beautiful. From personal pictures to artwork, it was a sight to see and feel. Even the bathroom is wonderful. When you order upfront, the dessert section is there for customers. I didn't choose any, but it's enough to make you buy literally every item made. Kudos to the staff for all of this. For ordering, we had to place it up front where they'll bring it to our table via a given number. For mine, we chose the following: -Monte Cristo croissant sandwich consisting of ham, Swiss cheese, rasberry jam and cream cheese with powdered sugar on top. Truly, truly delicious. Each ingredient worked perfectly here. And I love that this sandwich was homemade. Enjoyed every bite. Sophia had the turkey, egg and Swiss cheese croissant sandwich and enjoyed it. -Dolce Banana iced latte which is Dulce de Leche, banana and cold foam. Well made and not too sweet. I have to say it went very well with my sandwich. Sophia's was iced latte with sugar-free vanilla which she gave thumbs up. Both Sophia and I really enjoyed being here. A very calm atmosphere where you felt right at home. We will definitely return here :) read more

Finally had the chance to try Colattao after hearing so many great things about it and it did not disappoint! I went the past two weekends in a row and everything we tried was delicious and satisfying. So good that I didn't get any good photos. Some of the food options we tried were the California sandwich, crumb cake, & cruffin. The California sandwich is amazing and a must try! The crumb cake and cruffin were also very good, but more on the sweeter side and my wife enjoyed them a lot! We also tried the strawberry vanilla matcha drink, matchai, coconut hazelnut latte and the spiced French vanilla latte. All very delicious and beautifully crafted. Even though it can get busy here, I don't feel overwhelmed at all as it is spacious and cozy inside. This spot is a must try and somewhere I'd go back often, not good for the wallet! Lol! read more
I have been WAITING for this place to open back up, and I was not let down!!! Amazing coffee, amazing ambiance, and amazing pastries. Do I need to go back weekly to get something new? Probably so! We went at 3 pm, which is an hour before closing, and the place was packed as if it were 10am on a Saturday. Now I know why!! Very worth the drive from Norfolk. read more
Cute place. Definitely has good vibes and good pastries. The music is a little loud. This place definitely leans in the direction of a true chic coffeehouse that inspires wonderful conversations. Ambiance here is superb. If you've come to work on your laptop, it's all a bit distracting. But, again, that's totally not the point of this place. It's worth the drive out here. I've been here a few times, twice since the remodel, and I love coming here each time. The vibe is amazing. I love all the plants and the neat decor. The fake fireplace in the middle with seating on either side is a great touch. They've recently gone to laptop free weekends (including Friday) and I think it's amazing! It's nice to have a place to sit and chat with friends. I love their churro latte. They have a great selection of bakery items, but I haven't tried any of them yet. They also have a small selection of sandwiches if you want something like a meal. The service is nice and friendly. If you get your order for in store, they'll bring it to you which is a nice touch. read more

This place is awesome! Makes me wanna get into more coffee shops. The coffee and muffins are very delicious. Service was quick even tho there was a line out the door. Even tho it was busy it was still easy to grab a seat and the people who work there are very accommodating and friendly. It's a nice vibe. read more
This coffee shop had unique coffee options and I was here for it!! This place was quite cozy and comfy with plenty of seats for everyone!! There was a long line but the service was quick!! Went here for the first time with my husband and two close friends. We arrived at 8:20AM on a Saturday morning and the whole place was packed, lucky our friends got there a few minutes before us and were able to get a table. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant with the cheese on the side (gave it to my husband because I have a dairy allergy), and a chai latte with soy milk. My husband got a BEC sandwich as well. The chai latte was so good and really comforting on a cold day. They served it in a cute but sturdy mug. The atmosphere was busy but cozy with the decor and lighting and warm temperature inside. We enjoyed our time there. The only caveat I would say is be careful going there if you're in a rush because even on an early Saturday morning, 20 minutes after they opened, there was a long line. Also, the coffee shop is pricey. I think the cheapest item on the menu is five dollars. I would definitely go again, but probably eat beforehand and just get the chai tea since that's a specialty. If you can get a table, I also recommend sitting in the shop, because it really elevates the experience. I didn't get photos from inside the coffee shop while there because it was so packed that I would have had a bunch of people in the photos. Looking forward to going back again though. read more
Met up with my cousin at this charming, cozy coffee shop--bustling yet inviting. The dark chocolate habanero drink paired perfectly with the spinach and feta croissant; both were flavorful standouts. I'd return in a heartbeat, though they may need to expand as those coming were finding it difficult to find seats. read more

My roommate and I decided to go to Colattao in Virginia Beach after a long day of furniture shopping at Ikea. I loved the interior of this coffee house; it felt very homey and relaxing. You could tell that this family-run business spent a lot of time thinking about the decor of their shop. There were many couches and seating areas for folks to sit and enjoy their drinks or pastries. Watching the family interact with each other behind the counter was heartwarming, and they got our drinks and pastries out very quickly. I got the regular hot latte, and my roommate got the matcha lemonade. Both were very refreshing and made us feel energized. We shared the pistachio chocolate cronut filled with vanilla cream, and it was the perfect companion to our drinks. In addition to coffee, they also sell super cute little trinkets and merch that I'll have to go back to purchase! read more

I just moved to the area and have been trying to find my new coffee spot, and this shop definitely makes the list! From what I understand, they've recently expanded, but it's still too small to handle the amount of people there on a Saturday morning. However, the service was fairly quick, and the coffee was really good! I got a salted maple latte and thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't try any baked goods this time, but their display window was full of amazing looking treats! I think during a weekday would be better to find seating, but the vibes were still good! read more
This coffee shop in virginia beach is cute and cozy. The atmosphere is inviting despite the crowd, definitely perfect to meet up with friends or enjoy a casual coffee date. The menu is super creative, with so many tempting options that it's hard to choose. From croissant sandwiches to cakes, muffins, and other baked goodies, everything looked yummy. We tried the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich and the chicken apricot sandwich, both were delicious. The chicken apricot had that perfect balance of savory and slightly sweet, which made it really stand out. The drinks were pretty good too, beautifully presented and comforting, especially with their seasonal selection. While everything tastes great, items are mostly on the pricier side for portion sizes. The staff greeted me with a smile, were helpful and answered questions related to the menu, they also tend to be occupied in their busy atmosphere. I have visited 3 times now and each time I get an iced house brew and a mixed berry scone. Colattao has the best black coffee in the 757 hands-down. and if you've seen some of my past coffee reviews, if you can't make a regular black coffee, you shouldn't be a coffee shop! The house brew is flavorful and it's been made perfect all 3 times so you know it's the real deal. The mixed berry scone... soooo yummy. One day I will try something else but for now, I am 100% satisfied. Also, it's only $10 for a large coffee and scone, I'll pay that any day for this kind of quality. The staff has also been very friendly and they're very quick!! read more
This might be one of my new favorite coffee shops! My drink and pastry were both delicious. The staff were super friendly and the service was fast. The place itself is super cute. The only "issue" is that it's so good that it's justifiably popular so it took a bit of time to find a table. Finally made it to see the newly renovated cafe. The addition was much needed. It is so cute and cozy inside with a double sided fireplace. If you find in the dish set they serve you with are all beautiful designed with bold royal blue designs. They have top of line coffee machines and you can taste it in the drinks. I enjoyed the churro latte - not too sweet but full of cinnamon. I also refueled with a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. You choose your own see with a number and they deliver your order too you. They are attentive and as soon as you leave they have your table cleaned for the next person waiting. read more

To be completely transparent, i made a last minute decision to make a trip here after receiving some rough news the night prior. This cozy interior and welcoming staff definitely helped pick up my mood as well as the delicious treats I ordered! I ordered the Hot Honey Latte - Whenever I see these kinds of "different" flavors I am ALWAYS intrigued. However , I didn't get that "Hot" part the name entailed even the slightest. Absolutely obsessed. I was so excited to come check it out after they finished renovations and it did not disappoint. I loved everything from the decor to the snack selection to the coffee itself. My husband and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and there was a line at the door and every table full, yet the service was amazing. We received our entire order in less than 5 minutes. Colattao is such a cozy spot! The decor is warm and inviting, filled with art that gives it a creative and welcoming feel. It's the kind of place where you can easily settle in with a coffee and get some work done. The barista was super friendly and offered recommendations since it was my first time. I went with the ham and cheese croissant, which was buttery, flaky, and absolutely delicious. Definitely a great choice! For my drink, I ordered an iced americano with brown sugar cinnamon and a dash of almond milk. It was smooth, perfectly balanced, and had just the right amount of sweetness. I'll be ordering that again for sure. I also couldn't help but admire the pastry case-- everything looked amazing. I already know I'll be back to try the crumb cake next time! I'm really looking forward to returning, especially with my laptop to get some work done in such a relaxed environment. This place seems like a great kept secret but the secret got out, its always crazy busy, but for a good reason. The vibe here is perfect, decorations, feel, and great coffee. The Churro Latte is incredible and the pistachio is even better. Parking sucks but thats the only down side to this gem. read more

We were in town for the Shamrock 1/2 marathon and found this cafe off the beaten path. We got there just as it was opener 8:00 am. I'm glad we did as it got quite crowded. Great food, great coffee, great service, cute and unique cafe. read more
