Unfortunately, this was one of the most unwelcoming coffee shop experiences I've had. When I entered with my 4-year-old son, there was no line, so I briefly lifted him up to look at the pastry case and choose a treat. After he selected a cinnamon bun, I ordered it heated. A moment later, I added two more cinnamon buns for my husband and daughter. The cashier visibly rolled her eyes at what was literally a two-second delay in completing my order. I then ordered a coffee, a dark chocolate latte with almond milk, a cookie, and a gluten-free biscotti. My total was around $21, and I added a $5 tip. While my card was still processing, another customer walked in. The cashier repeatedly told me, "You're all set," even though the card reader had not finished processing my payment. The interaction felt rushed, as though I was being pushed aside for the next customer despite there being no line. While waiting for my order, the barista called out a "decaf latte with almond milk." Since I had ordered a dark chocolate latte with almond milk, I let her know it wasn't mine. The barista immediately appeared irritated and looked ready to dump the drink. The cashier then clarified that the ticket said "dark chocolate," not "decaf," and it became apparent that the handwritten order had been misread. The replacement drink was made while the barista loudly slammed equipment and banged metal tools around, making it very clear she was unhappy about having to remake it. The entire experience felt hostile and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, none of the employees were wearing gloves while handling food items, which raised concerns about cleanliness and food safety. Based on my experience, the customer service was poor, the atmosphere was unwelcoming, and the food handling practices were concerning. I wish I had read the reviews beforehand, as several other customers appear to have reported similar issues. There are plenty of coffee shops in the Virginia Beach area that value customer service. I'd recommend spending your money elsewhere. read more

Every time I go to Virginia Beach I have to get my coffee grounds from their store,love it, but this Sunday 8/30/26 the young lady at the counter was a little to ruff with a couple that had a baby. She acted as she was the owner and was upset with the baby for touching a picture on the wall. Parents corrected the baby. When I asked her if I could get my coffee beens on the espresso mode she looked act me like I was asking for something imposible and she said no we use the same settings for all coffee grounds. Mind you I bought coffee here plenty of times and had never had an issue with it.The other young lady that was doing my coffee beans said I'll do it for you. SO the cashier got mad gave her a look and walked away to the back. Perhaps a little More training about customer service and how to approach peopple will do her some good. read more

Tiny coffee shop on the (almost) corner. Cute setup but with minimal space. Definitely more of a take and go location but they do offer a few seats both inside and outside. It's not far from the beach - so great stop before you get some rays. We ordered the quiche, and it was totally toddler approved. I've stopped in here a few times while nearby shopping for a snack, pastry or a coffee. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, it's a small shop but loaded with delicious muffins and baked fresh goodies every day with seasonal flavors like pumpkin muffins. Lots of quiche and breakfast goodies as well as salads and sandwiches and bagels are available if you are looking for something a bit heavier. Chicken salad sandwich is delicious. I'm basing this review on their breakfast sandwiches and pastries. The cafe itself was cute but crowded. The menu was large, clear and didn't seem overly unreasonable for price. The low rating comes from their breakfast sandwiches. I'd have been better off getting a McMuffin. I ordered an everything bagel with egg, extra cheese and bacon. I purposely avoided hitting somewhere commercial because I hate fake egg or bacon. They claimed fresh ingredients but I'm not sure what fresh eggs I have had that create a pale yellow and tasteless disc. The cheddar was flavorless and bacon was comparable to the pre cooked microwave bacon. The bagel itself some how lacked and personality or flavor. It was all poppy seed and sesame seed. I'm from New England and the everything bagels are excellent. I only gave it the extra star because the pistachio bread was very good and my blueberry muffin was interesting. Sweet location. It is small but they offer a lot for such a small coffee shop. I love how they utilize every inch. Coffee has been consistently good. We usually get lattes but we have also gotten their chai tea. If you like you lattes on the sweeter side, speak up they are very helpful and friendly. I really like the salted caramel white chocolate latte with almond milk. Their lavender is good too. They have so much great food to choose from. It is all good. My only draw back. This is a cute boutique coffee shop. I was in the area and my family wanted coffee. I opted in for an Americano and added some honey to it. It was good... nothing to it I know. But the employees were pleasant and we met the baker in the back. I witnessed a patron come in and wanted a blueberry muffin. The muffins were baking and he seemed a bit disappointed that none were readily available... just the one on display and I doubt that is for sale... just show. This lets me know, the muffins must be really good. I brought a muffin just to try it and it's been a few days and I still haven't tried it yet... the cherry almond flavor. What a great little place. The locals love it, you can tell, and they keep it very busy. I had the sausage breakfast sandwich and it was tasty. The Quiche looks fabulous and I regret not trying it. Service is excellent. It would get a 5 except for the drip coffee brought it to a 4. I always describe this taste as bad water filtration or a dirty machine. I don't know that to be true but the taste is like metals added into coffee. Think diner coffee. Here's a tip "I like my sugar with coffee and cream" I am sure this is the best way to enjoy it. I'm lucky enough to work very close to perk you up . However I would drive a distance ,if I had to . I've had a lot of things on their menu. I've had their quiche. My favorite is the Greek. I've had the muffins to die for. All of their salads are crisp and yummy. So many choices of coffee to pick from .my two favorite are the Virginia Beach flavor and the Costa Rica. When it's a hot day and I want an iced coffee I get the cold coffee. The cool thing is that their ice cubes are made of coffee so as your coffee dilutes it doesn't get watered down .Today I got the everything bagel sandwich. Yum yum . Customer service is on point. Well, i had recently put in a review about my favorite local coffee place, then on a weekend getaway we found this place. Well, this place was amazing too. For starters they give extra shots in their coffee so there is more bang for your buck. And the coffee is so good, great balance in the mocha without being tooth meltingly sweet. Exploring the Oceanfront neighborhood I have visited Perked Up Cafe a few times. It is a small space and the small cafe gets easily crowded with people waiting for their orders. It is busy, vibrant, and loud when I visit. Not ideal for a workspace, so I haven't tried it for working. My latte is always good and the friends I have taken here enjoy the coffee. My favorite thing about Perked Up is the large selection of flavors for your morning pick-me-up. I like the Lavender Honey combination, but for the last few weeks I have been a sucker for pumpkin spice and white chocolate. The prices are very reasonable, on the lower end of the local shops I have visited in the area for the selection that they offer. Environmental note that always bothers me when I visit Perked up is their use of styrofoam. I am sure the cups add to keeping the cost low for us which is why I mention it in the same part of my review. Located one block from the ocean I really wish that Perked Up would switch to more earth-friendly materials. I'm not saying a total green-overhaul is in order, but a simple cup switch would go a long way and would continue to reinforce the message that Virginia Beach is a town that cares about the environment and the footprint that we are leaving behind. I don't think that most would notice my small gripe about this cozy local shop. It is still a great location, easy parking, with a variety of caffeinated beverages and tasty treats. read more

This is the cutest coffee shop! The location is perfect to grab a cup of coffee and breakfast, then head to the beach for a beautiful walk. It is super cozy inside to enjoy a moment to yourself or catch up on work. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door and was helped with all of my questions. Katie and the other girls working were truly wonderful. I ordered a walnut, chocolate, banana bread warmed to perfection and a coconut, chocolate hot latte. I went in with my daughter for 2 lattes and 2 quiche. While we were eating, I asked why this place was so expensive because the total was over $30. When we realized that we were overcharged, I asked for an itemized copy of my receipt. And that's when the employee said, "Oh, I charged you for an extra latte". Then she was RUDE about refunding.
