We recently ordered a party platter from Javi's Tacos for New Year's, and while the quesadillas and burritos were good, we were really looking forward to the tamales. Unfortunately, they were extremely disappointing. There was barely any meat inside--just masa, making them unenjoyable. We didn't even end up eating them. This was the second time in 4 months we had Javi's cater our events. The amount of food for the price we have paid can't be beat! It comes with rice, beans, chips (the best in town), tortillas, salsa, taco toppings, and meat. Everyone so far has RAVED about the food. In the past this was my "go to" burrito place in Visalia. I would order the hungry man burrito, and it was huge, and perfect. I recently went to Javi's about a month ago. The hungry man burrito is now 1/2 the size....and more expensive!!!!!! To make things worse, the quality was very bad!!!!! At least I got to enjoy Javi's food when it was "for real". Never again. I used to love this place, the food is great but the service keeps sucking. I am only able to make to go orders as I work nearby and cannot come back. Of my last 6 orders 5 were messed up. Today's was so bad that I threw my meal away. Typically it's the owner getting frustrated because I want to order a burrito and add cheese and sour creme and he always tells me to order the Supreme minus lettuce, tomato and avocado cause it's cheaper .... I told him on numerous occasions I have but they cannot seem to get the "minus lettuce, tomato and avocado... so I opt to pay extra to get it right. Today I tried online it won't let you pay for anything and shows your cart as empty (been like that the last 3 times I came) so I called it in and asked for a Chilli Verde burrito Supreme with no lettuce, no tomato and no avocado. It showed all that on my receipt when I got there and paid. I got back to work and found a wet burrito Supreme with everything on it. I like the last 5 burritos before threw it away and did not eat, I'm out lunch and $17 (really times 5). At this point they cannot seem to get my orders right and I am done wasting my money on food I will not eat and will opt to go places where the cashier and cooks know how to take and process orders. Javis on Mooney is on point though. 0 issues there when we eat. Will not be eating at the court location anymore and will try the vast other options neaeby. read more

This is the first time I've been here. It was reccomended by a friends friend who was from this area. I think it was the original taco shack - because the other location in Mooney looks more upscale. Website is hard to maneuver and fine the menu; have to go through too many steps off the main page. Would have just passed this up if it wasn't reccomended and another place we had chosen as a first was closed due to the Memorial Day holiday. It's on a corner of center street. It has some vegetarian/ vegan options but I wouldn't say it caters to vegetarians/ vegans. The veggie burrito on the menu only has beans, rice and cheese - pretty much a bean and rice burrito (even though they already have a similar burrito on the menu) for an extra 3.00 for rice!? One in our party got it and said he would have given it a 1/2-1 star. Mainly because it didn't have much substance to it and didn't have any wow factor at all. I saw ahead of time that it didn't have much substance ahead of time so I veered off trying the veggie burrito and got the taco salad instead. I was a little disappointed because when I asked for more rice, beans, lettuce, avocados because I wasn't going to get the meat, sour cream or cheese, the waitress said it was fine. She didn't mention nor was upfront about the extra 50 cents charge for a "convenience fee". I really didn't think that this was honest or forthright. I didn't make a big deal about it after she printed the receipt but I didn't leave a tip either. This is more of a self serve cafeteria type restaurant. There is a nice salsa self serve bar. You get called to get your food. And, you dump your own leftovers/ plates etc. Seems like there are only high bar stools and table; didn't see any low tables - so not good for children. About 6 tables. There is no bathroom on site. One in our group got the torta, one got the tacos and one got a California burrito. The torta and California burrito were fine and about standard size but the tacos were kind of small in size. I was told that the rice and beans were good and authentic but they were very stingy on the servings (rice and beans do not cost that much). Even on my taco salad, for the extra charge of 50 cents which I was not informed of, I didn't think that there was any extra lettuce, avocados, tomatoes, rice and beans given. Also, when I asked for water, they said they only had bottled water and said that they couldn't even give me tap water. Was really disappointed in their non gracious/ non hospitality - especially since I had already ordered from them. The main thing that I would say that was good for vegans is that they had beans that were boiled - not refried or lard ones. Fries were good. Would have given 3 over 2 stars if they weren't so stingy and the overall general consensus of the group. read more

First of all, parking is horrible to find at lunch time. Not the restaurants fault but definitely be aware of it. I usually go to the one on Mooney but this is closer to my work so I decided to drop by. I accidentally set my order pickup time wrong but they were able to fix it so that was nice. When it comes to the food though, the difference in quality between this and the Mooney store is HUGE. I ordered the quesabirria meal and was really disappointed. The tortillas were undercooked, the beans were watery, and the rice was dry. Not to mention I asked for no onions and was still given onions. Not only were they there, THEY DIDNT EVEN PUT THEM IN THE TACO. They placed them underneath with the cilantro. Never seen that before. All in all, I was super disappointed. Won't keep me from going to the Mooney location but I definitely won't come back downtown. read more

Today, was my first day back at the office due to COVID and I decided to pay Javi's Taco Shack a visit with a colleague. Depending on the time of the day, you can find parking across the street from Javi's (free public parking--Thanks Visalia). The establishment was packed because it was during the lunch rush hour. I do wish they would have additional space because it was tight with limited seating. We got lucky to have found 2 seats by the window. The wait wasn't that bad. The offered quick service despite the rush for lunch. We had no problem placing our order: #14 two shrimp tacos, beans, and rice (includes drink) & #7 Carne Asada Torta/Fries (includes drink). The total was $25.66 including taxes. A bit pricey but glad to be support a local business in Visalia. The cashier was friendly and provided us with details about what the torta included (Choice of meat: Mayo, refried beans, lettuce, tomato, avocado, sour cream, and cheese). I didn't see a restroom but I did see a hand sanitizer bottle on the left side of the cash register. Overall, the shrimp tacos were decent and the chipotle sauce made it worth it. The rice and beans were properly cooked but nothing out of the ordinary. Next time I will give the fish tacos an opportunity. I assume they're using styrofoam plates due to COVID-19. I had no issue with it. I do appreciate the fact that each customer has the ability to add condiments (salsa, radish, cilantro, limes, onions, etc) at a condiment bar on the right hand side of the cash register. I highly recommend the spicy red sauce they have. I added some to my fried beans and rice. Also, they have several options for beer lovers (modelo, corona, bud-light, and others). I will pay Javi's another visit sometime in the future and give other menu items an opportunity but this wouldn't be my first option in downtown Visalia. read more

At a recent event I tried the smaller breakfast burrito! Someone on here complained about there being beans in the burrito - I felt they went well with the bacon breakfast burrito! There was a good amount of egg and the beans balanced it out! Affordable perfect to-go when I'm running out of time and want something that will keep me full all morning/afternoon. Next time I go hiking or on a trip the sequoias I will bring some along because they were double wrapped (1x in a parchment paper & 1x in aluminum). I feel like they're perfect for littles to enjoy - cut in half! read more

Just meh... i used to go here a lot but it's been at least 3 years since my last visit. I get there today and it's got a new look... but the whole menu revolves around their meat. that should've been my red flag to leave, but they do have a bean and cheese burrito on the menu. i ordered a bean and rice burrito, no cheese. nachos, no meat, lettuce and tomato on the side. they gave me a tiny ass burrito and some lame nachos. In all fairness, their chips are BOMB, full of flavor, but the nachos had no beans, no cheese, it was made inconsistent, like they didn't know how to make the nachos good without meat. smh. is it really that hard to make a good nacho...? obviously if i don't order meat, load the nachos full of beans and cheese... is that too much to ask? i would not recommend this place. it's become difficult to find good mexican food in visalia. sorry i didn't get photos, but just imagine chips with no beans or cheese and a tiny burrito. that was my meal. read more

I'm giving Javi's in dt a 4 bc the food, as always is delicious! however, I was providing lunch for a work group today. Since I am aware that is a very busy time of day, I called just after 1030 am to order 2 of the family packs for pick up at 12 pm. I am disabled so by the time I parked & got up to the register, it was 1224 & the order had not been started! It was 1 pm before I delivered the food & Im not sure how many were able to enjoy it. I have driven by their taco Tuesday sign for months and finally decided to stop. I got the al pastor, carnitas and chili verde tacos. Plus a small rice. The tacos were loaded with meat for $1 tacos. They were pretty busy on a taco Tuesday. That being said, I wasn't too thrilled with the tacos. I did like the pastor but felt the others didn't have the flavor I would have liked. Now... it could have been me or the salsa selection that wasn't what I would have liked. It's worth a try for anyone who likes tacos. I recommend starting on Tuesday.
