I'm shopping around for a gravel bike with a budget between $1-2k. Narrowed down my options and saw a great deal for a Trek ALR series advertised on their website. I was unsure about sizing, and since this is a fairly expensive investment, I found a store that was an authorized dealer. Jonah was kind enough to help me out. They didn't have my exact model, but I was able to test ride similar models in different sizes. Done! I ordered the bike through them knowing they have a 7-day return policy once I pick it up. They requested a down payment for the order. The bike arrived sooner than expected so they called me to come pick it up. They built the bike for me and had me test ride it before I left. Couldn't be happier with my purchase. The only reason I'm giving it a 4-star is because they ONLY carry a few brands. I mostly saw Trek but I was really hoping to see other brands I was considering so I can see/ride it before making my purchase. read more

Im a mountain bike guy myself, and i just purchased another marlin 5 in addition to another marlin 5 i bought from jax about 9 mos ago. Im a very satisfied customer of jax! They also have a convienant layaway plan if you dont have all the money. I've bought a total of 5 bikes from jax and bought them all on the layaway plan! Today we took our electric bike tire which is standard cruiser size for a new tube. the price of the tube was 12.00 but to install was going to be 70.00. I was shocked at the price so refused . The tire was off the bike nothing special. so i bought the tube and took it to Bellflower Bike and they didn't it in less than 10 minutes and charged me $16.00. They said at Jax it would take the day to fix it. This is the last time I visit Jax even though it's around the corner. read more

Update: took my bike to a different store and they stated that the brake cables were setup poorly and the chains and derailer had to be fixed. You cannot make a job right if you don't know how to do it correctly to begin with. Hire some competent people that know what they're doing or retrain whoever is building the bikes. Don't reach out to me about making things right unless you're going to 1. Give me a refund or 2. Reimburse me what it cost to fix my bike at a competent store. read more

I had a bike pedal that needed servicing. I took it apart when I shouldn't have (my fault - I own that). Drove to JAX and spoke to someone in the service department. First guy had no idea what I was talking about and went to get another guy. Other guy still had no idea what I was talking about but took the pedal and disappeared for 20 minutes. 20 minutes later, the guy comes back. The pedal is broken. He took a hammer to it (I heard pounding noises - I didn't know it was this). Then he tells me 1) we don't have this pedal in the store 2) we need to order it 3) we can give you a 20% discount I was speechless. The guy calls the service manager who tells my pedal was probably fake (?) even though I bought it on Amazon. Then he offers me again the 20% discount. I left and re-ordered the same pedals on Amazon. "We make customers happy" is 100% false advertising. Appalling experience. read more

Wondered in the Store with my brother for maybe close to 20 minutes . We then stood in front of the register for 3-5 minutes with no one in front of us without even being acknowledged and left . I then called to let them know about their service and they told me they were busy , not knowing I just left and there were only 4 ppl in the entire store with me and my brother being 2 of the 4 . The rep got offensive , put me on hold for a manager and after waiting over 10 minutes no manager picked up and I hung up . We were going to make a substantial purchase but we Will let everyone I know not to shop there ever again . read more

After doing weeks of research, I went into the shop this morning to buy a regular bike, not an e-bike. I knew this shop carried the brand and style I wanted. The staff was already very busy with many customers in the store and on the phone. Several employees were repairing bikes as well. Yet, I didn't wait too long before Jeff assisted me. He was great! He allowed me to ride the bike I wanted, but the shop had sold out of the color I wanted. It would have to be sent from one of their other bike shops. Jeff helped me choose the correct accessories, and rang up my purchases at the cash register. I was probably only at the shop for about a half hour from start to finish. In addition to the bike, and accessories, I bought their Flat Pack Service for $99. (Any flat tire I have for the life of the bike, Jax will repair at no extra charge.) I will be picking up my bike in about a week after Jeff receives it and assembles it. Great service, lots of bikes, highly recommend. Thanks Jeff and Jax! Jax Bike Center is very conveniently located in Long Beach. Parking is plentiful. Upon entering, i was greeted immediately. I noticed the store is clean and well organized. After explaining the trauma of my bike being stolen, they were able to help me resolve this problem. They had what I wanted in stock, and were able to make suggestions to enhance my purchase. Within 1-hour of making the decision to him purchase they were able to install the accessories and help me load up my new Electra Townie beach cruiser on to my cars bike rack. read more

Door was latched closed. Had to wear a mask per multiple sign. Upon entry was asked by a sales person with a clipboard why I was there. Its a bike store I explained, I'm here to look at bling for my bike (actually looking for brown leather Electra hand grips as the Trek site says you currently can only buy in store). The sales person asked for my name as he placed pen to paper. Turns out, after I asked why I was having to sign in, "We are short staffed and you will need to wait for a sales person. I asked if I could take a look at their Electra section while waiting. Yes was the answer, but they had more stuff in the back a sales person might get for me. As I looked at a very small disorganized Electra selection consisting of bells and a few odd parts I saw at least five sales people working computers at individual counters. It was odd and frankly, uncomfortable, so I sat in one of several chairs and waited. A few minutes later a sales person walked by, checked the clipboard and asked if I was Tom. I explained what I needed. He looked at the same area I explored, checked another walk that had no brown grips and stated Jaxs didn't seem to have any Electra grips (Jaxs is a designated Elextra dealer) I asked if he knew where I might find some grips. I was tefered to a bike shop in Manhattan Beach (about 20 miles away). I get there are shortages of parts and employees, but the entire experience was something out of a third world country and communication and customer service was terrible. I used to love Jaxs; however, I likely will not be back. read more

I had a freewheel that was stripped and needed to be removed. Jax bicycle mechanics were able to find a way to remove the freewheel. Now I can continue with my bike build. Cost was $40, a bit pricey but helped me work through the showstopper. Much appreciated. read more

Called this morning looking for a hydraulic brake line for a new set of Shimano xt brakes because my s5 stump jumper needs a longer line than the 1700mm cable that comes with them. Had to wait on hold for one of their mechanics so they could tell me if they had what I needed in stock. High end brakes usually use a banjo fitting while standard hydraulic brakes use a direct thread in connector. Rather than just tell they didn't have lines in stock he tried to talk me into upgrading to a new lower thread in brake telling me that anything that uses a banjo fitting is outdated. Really sucks that this place would try to make a sale misinforming people and making things up rather than just saying sorry we don't have what you need right now. If your new to higher end Mountain bikes don't ask for opinions here you'll be fed wrong information. read more

I've been riding an older Trek hybrid that I bought from them around 2005 on and off and I finally decided to upgrade to a dropbar bike. Anders helped me decide between a Domane and Checkpoint and he was SOOOOOO helpful. He showed me how to use the shifters and was very knowledgeable and patient with all my indecisiveness and questions. I got an Electra Townie Go! 7D at Jax Long Beach during the pandemic, and I was very cynical about their logo, "We Make People Happy." But I wanted to have a local shop I could bring my bike in for repairs. I am a believer now after 4 years of visiting this establishment. Jeff helped me numerous times, and every time I left the store my mood had been turned around by his personable and generous service. Meanwhile, I have used my Townie Go! as a commuter bike, and also as an adventure bike. I put nice heavy mountain bike tires on it - (I recommend this as the tires that came with the bike are thin and when they get flat when you are riding fast, it is dangerous). I started taking my Townie on mountain biking trails and dirt roads right into the solitude and beauty of nature which has been a dream as I can't hike the way I used to. I also upgraded to another pedal assist mountain bike that Will helped me turn into something that is comfortable and affordable for me. His brain power for bikes is something to experience. The whole team there is so helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. They have made me happy every time I have visited, and I always feel they try to accommodate what I am looking for and do not try to upsell me. Not to mention the freedom and happiness my bikes have given me. I have taken them to other states and brought my quality of life up a bunch of notches all with comfort, durability, and reasonable cost. read more

Despite it being clear I was not going to be a paying customer, Will went out of his way to search the internet for me looking for the best alternatives. He offered his personal experiences and knowledge as he looked up dozens of gloves searching for the best protection at a fair price...even though I would have to order them without his store's commission. I have had work done on an older bike and recently bought a new Trek FX3 bike from this shop. I've been impressed by the prompt and effective customer service. Paul was remarkably helpful when selecting the best fit for my cycling needs (transportation around the city and potentially doing a sprint triathalon). During our test ride, he provided feedback on how my body was positioned with the different bikes and explained the differences in the models. Paul was also very thorough in explaining different options with accessories. I could tell that he really cared about me having an optimal overall experience with my bike. read more

I didn't want to review this place but after everything that happened it seems like I should share. First and foremost this place works off commission. I walked in for tubes, tires, and a tune on an older bike. Was told how I should just purchase a new bike. The visit was fine so far. I ended up purchasing the tubes, tires, and a chain to take home as they wanted $220 to tune and install my tubes and tires. I thought the service wasn't competitively priced but that wasn't a problem. The problem began when I installed my tube and tires. The tubes looked significantly bigger than what I needed, so I called and Jax Bikes said, "it's just hard to do". Well I did it, and I got a flat. I walked my bike over to Jax only to be told that I installed the wrong size tubes. I responded with, "I brought my bike in yesterday and you guys sold me the tubes." This is where it gets interesting, the guy that sold me the parts didn't even talk to me or apologize over the fact that he made a mistake. I was the only person left inside the shop but Andre refused to acknowledge me. It's not the mistake that bothered me, it's the fact that Andre acted like a used car salesman. Refused to own the situation and just be a man about it. You can't be expensive and have shitty employees. If you get anything out of this review, go to Plenty of Bikes in Signal Hill. Ugh. Ordered a light for my husband on 12/12 for Christmas. Got a verification of the order, then nothing else. 12/24 I emailed in the morning, then called in the afternoon, hoping that maybe they had just forgotten to call. Nope. Order isn't in, my husband doesn't get the ONE Christmas present he wanted on Christmas morning, and they couldn't be bothered to let me know my order wouldn't be here in time. Canceling the order, I'll get it from someone else. Yeah, it will still be late and that really sucks, but at least I won't be rewarding Jax's for crappy customer service. read more

May 2022, Sadly, I traded in the heavy ass e-assist TREK bicycle that Zak pressure sold me into in September 2020 for $4,300 minus $300 for a trade-in that I did with him for my Surly that was in excellent condition that I also bought from Jax in November 2015, which was a bit of another high pressure sale along with the store manager high pressure selling me accessories for the bike. The bikes all seem to come with cheap accessories so that's how they get us on up selling you other bike parts that are very expensive and you have to wait 2 hours for them to add all the new stuff to your bike after you purchase a new bike. I loved the e-assist TREK bike but I knew in my mind when I was in the store that it was too heavy to lug around and it definitely wouldn't get into nor mount up on a rack on my small car, so I had to ride the bike from the store home and have someone take me me back to retrieve my car in the parking lot. When I traded in this bike they only gave me $1,750 for it although it was in excellent condition just like new. My only options in the store was to buy another TREK bike and Bontrager accessories because those are the only two brands the store carries. It feels like being in the 3rd world country with only 1 bike brand to choose from and 1 brand for any accessories, in fact, it looks stupid in the store that customers don't have any other bike brands to choose from, and only one or two themes. Now their theme have been beach cruisers for the past nearly two years which occupies 90% of their stock. I was told by a salesperson who is no longer there because he quit (this place has high employee turnover) that the owner only takes in 1 brand on the bikes and 1 brand on the accessories to keep his costs low, but marks up the prices significantly on all items in the store to make a profit. I am so sick and tried of this place, I probably will never return to it. I returned my new Trek road bike back to the store in June within 1 week after paying $3,500 for it. I don't even know why I bought that bike from them since it didn't feel comfortable after riding it home. Another stupid Trek. Now I am completely without a bike and this store still has my $1,750 on my account, but I don't want to have to settle onto buying another TREK bike from this place nor settle on only one brand of accessories. read more
