When my husband's favorite tent needed the elastic cord in its poles replaced, we checked online with the manufacturer. It could be done by mail shipping to and from Steamboat Springs, CO. They would check it, send an estimate and with acceptance repair and ship it back. That seemed unnecessarily complicated from a place like Boulder, home of many outdoor gear companies and repair support. We stopped in to the place we had purchased it, our REI store being incredibly helpful and knowledgeable of such repairs, though they don't do any themselves. They gave us two names, Bare Boulder being the most comprehensive and a 20 minute drive away, on a prominent street in Lafayette. I called, got info from the owner, Eli, about general pricing and timing. We took the bag of poles out 3 weeks ago, the estimate in person was at the low end of general approximation on the phone. We dropped it off and was told about 3 weeks as my husband had no need to camp with for at least a month. We picked it up today, ready on time and beautifully done with even higher quality cord than original. The shop is amazing, with antique sewing machine display, thousands of sizes and colors of zippers, piles of buckles and straps. It appears he can fix such parts on almost anything, luggage, jackets, backpacks, scuba BC vests, tents handbags, tote bags, recreation gear galore. Rude, disorganized, poor quality. I dropped off a leather bag to get a strap re-attached and was told I'd get a text when it's done. A month later, the text or call never came. 5 weeks later, I picked up the bag, and was sad to see the poor, sloppy craftsmanship. They didn't even use the correct color of thread. Bag was returned with scratches that weren't there before either. Poor communication, craftsmanship and attitude. read more

The hubs bought a leather bag in Ecuador a few years ago. After almost daily use, one corner of stitching came undone. I found Bare Boulder design on Yelp and confirmed this fell in their scope. I bought a soft-sided crate almost 3 years ago. Despite the fact that my dog crate well, the zipper broke in a few days. Now that we have a puppy, the caret door needed to be repaired. There are several show repair shops, or tailors, but I was not sure who could fix my dog crate. Eli responded very quickly that he could repair the dog crate, so I took the crate and my old horse stable jacket with the broken zipper to the Bare Boulder. Eli explained what would need to be done for each pieces. The costs were very reasonable, and they were repaired in 5 days!! Copying the review I posted on Google: I bought my wife a ski jacket at a great sale but even though it was the smallest size available the arms were still too long. I sent in the jacket and some size instructions and Bare Boulder did a wonderful job in making the alterations. The jacket fits perfectly and looks like it came from the factory that way. Couldn't be happier with the work. On top of that, I completely complicated the return shipping process for them by having the completed jacket sent to an address in Colorado that it turns out the post office doesn't deliver to. Bare Boulder worked with me as we waited for the jacket to get returned to them, giving me a status every day until it showed back up. Once that happened, and I was back home in Virginia, they got it shipped back to my home address with no problem at all. Long story short, they gave some really exceptional customer service through that process and really went over and above what I would have expected. This place is incredible. I bought a Gucci belt and I was in between sizes, and I chose a larger size as I could add holes, rather than smaller because I would not be able to make a smaller one fit. I needed holes added to the belt so I called a few places and this was the only place in the area that said they can make new holes in the belt. The guy was so nice, and he was able to match the size of the existing holes, as well as their distance apart from each other. I was terrified that someone might ruin it, but he was fast and did an amazing job! 10/10 recommended! read more

I flew into Denver over Thanksgiving with my Mother of the Groom dress. The next time I tried it on was 2 days before the wedding. I was not happy with how the dress looked. My sister called Bare Boulder and they got me in right away. They did an emergency alteration and 24 hours later my dress was perfect. I was able to walk/dance confidently all night long thanks to Bare Boulder. I will have to admit when I walked in I did not believe they could alter a long evening gown.
