I've been a customer of Louisville Cyclery since I lived in Sagamore, before the fire and before they moved across the street. This used to be a great shop. Small town vibe, fair prices, people you wanted to give your money to. That shop is gone. Since the move, the prices have gone through the roof and you get nickel and dimed for everything. I stopped bringing my bike in for tune ups two years ago because the cost stopped making sense. Today sealed it. They charged me $32 to add two links to my chain. That's $20 labor to "install chain" plus $11.98 for two SRAM power links. Thirty two bucks to clip two links on. I get that parts and labor cost money. But this is a shop that has quietly priced out the everyday rider who made it what it was. I live in Erie now and there are better options closer to home. Won't be back. Its too bad, because the owner has always been a great guy when he's around. read more

They sold and charged me for a mountain bike and gave me a different receipt and manual. Bait and switch. A part wasnt working correctly on the "new" wrong bike. They were unable to handle the simple transaction and repair. Overpriced, long service times and petty ownership. Use Zinn Cycles in Louisville or Jax in Lafayette. read more

Louisville Cyclery and Trek engaged in deceptive marketing through the Trek website and Louisville Cyclery website. I drove about 30 minutes to the Louisville Cyclery location after seeing the Air Rush pump on the Trek website in stock at Louisville Cyclery and in stock on the Louisville Cylcery website. Once arriving I learn the Air Rush is not in stock and was immediately trying to be sold another product. They had said, "they sold the last one this morning". However on the Trek website, the Air Rush is still available at Louisville Cyclery. The product is also showed available for pick up on the Louisville Cyclery website.This time I purchase the "available" Air Rush online and receive a receipt and order number for the "in stock" unit at the Louisville Cylcery location. I got back to Louisville Cylcery and the unit is not available. I would not recommend visiting this location or shopping online. The Trek website still list the Air Rush available at Losivlle Cyclery two hours later when it is not in stock. Deceptive marketing and misleading the customer. Disappointed in Trek and their dealer here. Additionally, Louisville Cycelry still shows the Air Rush as available on their website. read more

This is a great shop for accessories, clothes and bike maintenance needs. I have only been here once but was impressed with the quality of the inventory and customer service. I came in needing some cleaning and lube supplies for my road bike. Nice to have a local shop open on Sundays. I was struggling badly with mounting my bike on my Wahoo turbo trainer and the woman at the front explained to me what I was doing wrong, probably saving me from cracking my brand new carbon fiber frame. I am happy to come back the next time I need supplies or need to replace my helmet or shoes. I think their jerseys are also really cute and they have great stock of arm warmers, leg warmers, etc. read more

The rudest folks around run this shop. I've given them many chances over the last 5 years. It's a shame because I'd love to support their small business; there aren't many left and a good local bike shop is an amazing asset to have nearby. Rude older sales lady. Bait and switch from online sale pricing. Wouldn't honor online pricing despite being shown what it was showing online from their OWN webpage. They claimed it was a glitch in the system. When my husband showed them it was doing the same "glitch" on what she claimed was actually on sale, she still said "I'm not going to give you that price". It's not always what you say, it's how you say it. Furthermore, refusing to honor pricing on your actual website and saying "that's from Bell's website" when clearly we are on yours, is ridiculous. Small businesses go under because people can save money on the same product online. The lack of integrity alone is enough for us to never shop there, nor recommend shopping there to anyone. Add in the attitude problem, bye Felicia. I can avoid the inconvenience and the attitude by shopping online. read more

I've been using this local bike shop for several years. I've purchased 3 bikes from them. Recently, I brought a bike in for a tune up. The man in the bike service dept. was extremely rude. He was frustrated that I didn't shout into him that I have a bike here to be serviced. There are other ways to let me know the protocol besides shouting at me. The interaction left me speechless. I'm old enough to be his mother! So rude! Secondly, I was told that it would take 3 weeks for tune up. After 4 weeks, I called them and was told that the bike had been ready. No one called me. I'm ashamed to say I've never fixed a mountain bike flat tire. Not knowing how easy it actually is. I called Louisville Cyclery to see how much it would cost to fix my flat. The lady that answered the phone quoted me $25 plus the price of the tire. Price gouging at its best in my opinion. I watched a video on YouTube and went to Walmart for a tube. It literally took me less then 5 minutes to complete the task. read more

I was quoted $45-100 for having my tubes replaced and my internal 3 speed hub adjusted. When I went to pick up the bike, I was told it was $129. I expressed my astonishment to the severely abrasive woman at the counter. The owner, who was nearby, adjusted the price to $120. Still 20% higher than what I was quoted as the maximum. When I mentioned I had paid much less at a shop in Boulder, the owner said, "I pay my workers a living wage." I am so sure the high school students are living off their bike store wages. Careful of being unwittingly upsold to $17.99 tubes (they are like $5 elsewhere). Plus, they don't clean off your bike as a matter of course like any other bike store around Boulder. I brought in two cycles for a tune up. Once inside the store I was greeted with do you have an appointment? I was embarrassed because I felt I should have known this. I mentioned I had called a few days before (Friday) and was told to bring the bikes in Monday because if I wanted a quick turn around there were no mechanics working the weekend. Once that was established rolled the bikes into the repair area. Mechanics looked at the bikes and asked "what do we have here?". I told him that I needed the bikes to be tuned up. He responded, " I am going to let you know up front, this is going to be a week and a half out ..etc". I realize businesses get busy and have waited on repairs before but I believe their responses were cold and unprofessional so I decided take the bikes else where. The two star rating is because this encouraged me to look on YouTube and get a tutorial on how to do the tune up myself. Saved me $270 plus parts so for that I am thankful for the rude reception. -TJ read more

I blew a tire on my commute home on a Friday evening. I came in the next day and they had a new matched rear tire and tubing installed in 15mins. I was recently in the shop in order to get an insurance quote for my bike which had been hit by a car. I was supremely impressed with their customer service, they are fast and very friendly. My qualm however is that I have doubts as to their competence...I know that is a very strong thing to say, but it is true none the less. This was the second insurance quote I was to receive, and had told the person I dropped the bike off to that the first shop had told me the frame had been bent. When I picked it up, they said that it was fine...frame wise, and gave me the quote. I was dissatisfied with this as two shops had now told me different things. I took it to a third shop, that confirmed that the frame had been bent. All and all, quite friendly and good prices, but as I said above, theym may not be entirely competent. read more

Save time and energy, don't bother with this shop. They don't seem to be interested in helping and if they do they are condescending. Went in to purchase a women's carbon frame bike. Was shown a bike and given a test ride only to find out after the ride that it was a men's bike. When I asked if they had a women's model they said they did. Duh, why wasn't I given this to test ride! After their safety check (which took ten minutes)I took the women's model out for a spin only to find the front disc brake was not functioning properly, nearly caused a problem at a crosswalk. Upon return and mentioning the brake issue there was no response and also no apology for putting me on a men's frame. This was the only women's model in the right size around but I just couldn't bring myself to patronize this shop. A poorly performed safety check did not instill any confidence in a lifetime of free tune ups. Go someplace else where you are valued as a person and a customer. read more

These guys are efficient and quick. Today my bicycle gear fell off about 3 miles away, and I had to walk it all the way to these guys, even though they were busy they repaired my bicycle within a couple of hours * I've read a few of the bad reviews and I question the patience of these writers. Sometimes these guys do get swamped and short handed. So sometimes you do have to wait. Some people expect to be waited on within 4 seconds of entering a store of any kind. Repair shops of any sort often get busy as described,, it's not a fast food restaurant. Those people who are not patient need to move to southeast Florida. They will fit in with the New York senior citizens. read more

I had a quick question about something i had bought there that could have led to an additional sale but I'd rather find a bike shop farther away that will at least acknowledge my presence. I am new to Louisville, and my 10-year old bike needed some routine maintenance. I took my bike in and even wondered aloud if I needed a new bike since I wanted to commute to work via bicycle at least occasionally. They didn't even attempt to sell me a new bike, they said that with some adjustments that my current bike should work fine. I was impressed with the improvements they made in addition to the friendly service. A few weeks later I got a flat, and again I took it in to replace the tube on a Saturday. They were able to get it replaced in about 10 minutes! Very happy that I have a quality bike shop less than half a mile from my home. Will look here first if I do feel I need a better road bike instead of my cruiser. read more

First I must disclose that I race for a cycling team that is associated with the shop. I have also been a member of the Louisivlle Velo Club for the past few years. I chose this association though because of the convenience and high quality of service and support I get from the shop. I cannot recommend enough the importance of community oriented bicycle shops. Louisville Cyclery is top notch to meet your cycling needs in the Louisville area. The shop has been around for a very long time so they are experts on the cycling needs of the area (road, mountain, cross, competitive, casual, family). I've had frustration with getting flats and not being able to remove tires put on by another shop; they were incredibly tight on the rim. Scott the owner (like, forever) knew it wasn't the tires but the wheels: "They're notoriously hard to work with." He polled his cast of mechanics and they all agreed that I needed folding tires (no wire beads). The tires were over $50 each...not cheap. But I price-shopped on-line and you know what? The shop charged the same OR LESS than mail-order! This is not my first time to use these guys (my first was the "biathalon" that Scott helped put on about a hundred years ago) and it won't be my last. read more

I chose this bike shop because I wanted to try a smaller town shop compared with the ones in Boulder I was used to going to. I dropped my mountain bike off for a tune up and the fellow who did the intake was very helpful and walked me through their process. They did the tune up in a fair amount of time given it is their busy season. However, when I picked up the bike and went to lift it to put it on the car, I realized that the bicycle itself had not been cleaned and the drivetrain was in the same greasy condition it was when I left it. The tune up was more than $150 with the misc. parts I needed to replace which seems expensive enough to warrant having the drive train cleaned. I cannot imagine how they were able to truly gauge the performance of the drivetrain with the amount of dirt and grease build up. The icing on the cake was feeling like I had to argue with the mechanic as he tried to convince me that dirt and grime on the drivetrain does not affect performance. I wish I could trust the work they did on the bearings and the rest of the mechanical parts of the bike. Bummed! read more

I came out with a bent derailer and my chain got caught in between my spokes and spricket on the way home as a result. I called them they denied it. Hmmmm... In short I always look for community in a community bike shop and there's nothing more frustrating than having a bike mechanic act supremely superior than you. I don't have years of experience behind the bike mechanics desk but I have built two of my own bikes and always enjoy rebuilding and improving projects rather than buying a whole new bikes. Unfortunately, I didn't get the same vibe from the mechanics in this shop. Just like so many other bike shops across the country, Louisville Cyclery is more about selling new bikes than perserving the legacy of classic bikes and parts. As exibitied by the explanation "you'd be better off buying a whole new bike" after I bought the used bike from them a week earlier... And after spending over 300 on parts and hoping to spend more in a local bike shop I think they've seen my last dollar. I guess I'll stick with bike coops. read more
