I can honestly write that I have never had a better experience when it comes to dental surgery. Even the minor experiences of driving there, parking indoors, walking a 100 or so feet to the dental office (all indoors), waiting in a beautiful waiting room with great magazines to distract my fears, and talking with staff (all with great senses of humor) - all the minor stuff was top notch. The dental assistant was incredible. I have never had painless shots - anywhere, let alone in my mouth. Yet, no pain when my broken tooth, gums, and palate had to be put to sleep. She was better than great. Dr. Malmquist is a master with a hammer and chisel - just joking. Whatever tools he used, he did a painless and fast job in the tooth extraction. The doctor himself seems capable, and the implant procedure has been good thus far. I'm just very confused by the negative, unhelpful experience I've had with thus far with the billing lead. It has been very difficult to get invoices that show the level of detail my FSA requires me to submit--and all I need is a date of service, date of payment, remaining balance. It's true what people say about their scamming insurance ways. I called on Friday and scheduled an exam that I was told could become an extraction on Monday. I was in pain already. They assured me that they were in Network with my insurance but didn't want my information. Red flag. I called my insurance on the way to the appointment; they had ceased membership 5 days prior. When I got to my appointment, they then went on to explain that my insurance was still good there, they could just charge me basically whatever they wanted after what my insurance paid. Cool... why do I feel like dentist are just trying to buy their next boat and don't give a shit about patients. We are just customers that they are trying to up-sell. read more

This place is a scam. The second I walked in the door for my consultation, I was given the weirdest vibes by every single person working there. I was uncomfortable the whole time. I really needed to get my wisdom teeth out though, so I ignored my first instinct, and made my appointment anyway. Before I went to get it done, I called and asked how much insurance would cover. They told me they would only cover half, and I'd have to pay them about $1200. I then called my insurance, and they said I owed only $200. This place is a SCAM!! They want the money up front before you even get the surgery done. Very suspicious if you ask me. I then finally followed my first instincts, and cancelled my appointment. WARNING: FIND A DIFFERENT ORAL SURGEON! My dentist referred me to Malmquist's office for an emergency extraction of all four wisdom teeth. I have waited for the last six weeks for my new health insurance to kick in, the entire time dealing with massive pain in my jaw, neck, and pounding headaches. The day my insurance went active they got me in for a consultation, which is $90.00 for about ten minutes of their time (not covered by insurance). They got me an appointment less than a week later to have the procedure. I got childcare for three days, got the time off work, arranged rides to and from, and a myriad of other things that have to be dealt with each day that I wasn't going to be able to handle. When I showed up for the appointment, they wanted a check for over a $1000.00 for the portion not covered by insurance. Given that I was going to be put under, I brought nothing with me. No checkbook. I told them I could make a call and get them a card number, which I did in under 5 minutes. Ready to hand them the phone and get the process started, they said that it was too late and they would have to reschedule for several weeks later! The fundamental problem I have with this office, and many other modern medical establishments is that people are treated less like human patients and more like cattle being shoved through at the highest possible volume to maximize profits. Almost $3000 would have changed hands for this procedure. This would have bought me a 1 hour appointment?! Their schedule is so cramped that 5 minutes could make or break it? If I pay someone $3000 for anything, I expect more than this. What a racket. Not to mention, their basement office is creepy, windowless, and fluorescent-lit. The elevator music playing there is enough to make you want to pull out your own teeth. The mole-like people working there are insufferable and without compassion. The experience was a waste of time and money. Now I wait two weeks to get into another office while I am barely able to work and function due to the insane pressure in my head and neck from these teeth. They were fully aware of the agonizing pain I'm in, and were fully capable of taking the card number and doing the procedure, but they are so bureaucratic they let me leave and deal with this pain for weeks longer. If this isn't a violation of the Hippocratic Oath, I don't know what is. It's pretty clear that this guy is more concerned about helping himself and building his collection of horrible, tasteless art and autographs from famous republicans that cover the walls of their office. I went to get my wisdom teeth removed and was swindled into taking additional X-rays that the referring dentist already supplied. The x-rays were 230 dollars. Malmquist himself gave me little attention as he ended our 5 minute (yes 5 minute) pre-op meeting by taking a call his friend to talk about the superbowl they just went to. Completely unprofessional. During the meeting I asked Malmquist about the history of wisdom teeth removal (because obviously people survived and didn't used to do this extremely recent procedure) and he responded instead of with History with fear, telling me people "died" patronizing me like I was a child. My daughter went to get her wisdom teeth out by Dr. malmquist. I was really disappointed with a bill that I thought was overpriced (2500 for one hour of work), but since there are no governmental regulations on oral surgeons like there are on physicians that is what they charge. Unlike my friends who have paid these same rates their doctor talks to the parents after the procedure and usually checks in the patient post op (at home). I never saw the doctor except for the initial meeting and the only word I heard from the entire office was when my insurance didn't pay the full amount. I had to pay my portion before the surgery. My daughter had pain for 3 weeks post op, but not sure if this was excessive or normal. This whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth for Dr. Malmquist. However, I will take some responsibility because my dentist did not refer me to him and actually did refer reluctantly to him. He was on my insurance and close to our house- big mistake! read more

My son had his wisdom teeth removed recently and had GREAT results. He had 4 impacted wisdom teeth with some bone that needed to be removed as well. It took under an hour and he had NO swelling or bruising, felt great by day 2 and ready to head back to school. I would HIGHLY recommend Malmquist to anyone. The rates that Dr Malmquist charges for this are in line with other oral surgeons doing the same procedure. read more

All this with a huge fear of dental work, since I was a little girl, and I can honestly say Dr. Jay P Malmquist and his employees could not have made me feel more comfortable, welcome, secure, and trusting in their work. They helped with my fear and made the entire experience the best possible outcome. They took the time to invest in me as a patient, communicate with my parents and check in after the surgery. I've had to go back to watch my nerve damage, and every time they truly take care of me. They get to know their patients and create a comfortable environment for everyone.
