I wish I would have taken my truck to Jay Walton right after the accident in Jan 2024, but I took it two other places that tried to rip me off and had the worst experience of my life! They and the other driver's insurance company totaled my truck and even tried to convince me that my truck's frame was bent! And after 7 months dealing with those 2 other companies and giving them almost $10,000 my truck still wasn't fixed! A co-worker told me about Jay Walton and promised me they would take care of me and my truck.....and Jay Walton to the rescue! Even though they were given a truck that was missing the entire front end, they were brave and knowledgeable to take on the challenge! Not only did Jay Walton do the diagnostics to discover if my truck's frame was bent, they proved it was not! And they never tried to take advantage of me or be dishonest. Took a "new to us" pre-owned car in for an overall inspection and made the fatal mistake of telling them about the two problems WE ALREADY KNEW ABOUT. They didn't even put the car on a lift for two full days, but charged us an $60 diagnostic fee on issues WE TOLD THEM were wrong - never looked at anything else on the thing. Waste of time and money. My car was misfiring. I had ignored getting a tune up and this is what you get when you do that! But, Jay Walton's team was so easy to work with and I got my car back the same day! Adrian was my service dude and he was nice and very kind every time I talked to him. The technician took my car back about 10 minutes after I arrived. They were perfect and so professional. First of all you had my car for six weeks. I had zero issues with the module you said I needed prior to bringing it into your shop, that was not what I took it in for. It was working just fine. As far as the tire issue. The tire was not 3 years old, and yes they had to prorate it because a plug was put in it by your shop without my permission. That's why I pay extra for the warranty, but it is not covered if someone sticks a plug in it. You should have been responsible for that charge. I didn't authorize it, I know better. Brought our car here after a hit & run accident (typical Albuquerque!) in our month old car. Drivers side front panel was damaged and the door was a little, too. Jay Walton needed to remove a molding panel on the drivers door to fix other damage. Received our car back and all seemed well. Flash forward 6 months, the drivers side molding panel (the part Jay Walton needed to remove to fix other parts), pops off partially and before we could get it back on, came off completely to reveal that the tabs on the panel where broken when removed and instead of replacing the panel, they used epoxy and double sided tape to reattach the panel. I had to take time off work to take the car back to Jay Walton to repair something that should have been fixed right the first time. I spoke with the manager and he apologized and said he spoke with the tech who did it. That's useless. I have serious concerns that the rest of the parts they "fixed" will reveal their half-ass work in the future. While the repairs would be under warranty from them, it's still a huge hassle and something that shouldn't be happening. Will not be going back. Beware the repair. read more

Brought my 1990 Camaro in to Jay Walton Automotive to get a ding on the driver side quarter panel repaired. I chose Jay Walton because Hagerty has them listed as a preferred vendor. The dent needed to be fixed, color matched and then new clear coat on the drive quarter, roof and passenger quarter because there were no seams to stop the clear at. They did an excellent job with the body work and paint match. However I was unhappy with the clear coat as it had an orange peel look to it and the rest of the paint was smooth like glass. I called up Pat in the paint/body department and he told me to bring it back in and he would take care of it, no questions asked. Not only did they finish it to look like glass again they polished the front half of the car as well and apologized for the inconvenience of me having to bring it back in. I couldn't be happier with the way it all turned out. Their customer service is top notch, it's nice to work with a company that takes care of you. read more

Gave them our car with an agreed upon budget and rough timeline of 2 months. 7 months later they give me my car back and it is in worse condition than when I gave it to them. The engine cuts out and dies now, the brakes cut in and out, and the new AC I paid for if I turn it on it kills the engine. Brought it back only to be yelled at by pat and to be told 'you people don't understand' which I can only assume is a racist or otherwise bigoted statement. They then ripped out the air conditioning from my car and sent me on my way with a broken car. When I turned on the windshield wipers they had 'fixed' smoking was coming out of my dashboard. I was then told that they only have 1 person who can work on older cars, and that they no longer want older vehicles, as if it was my fault for dropping it off and I had unreasonable expectations. The expectations I had were from their own manager Ryan who told me these things could get fixed in a timely manner. Pat the manager then goes on to tell me they have cars that have been there for 4 years waiting to be repaired. If they had been honest about the timeline or their lack of ability we would have taken it somewhere else. They made no effort to make this right, just met with unreasonable hostility after I literally only asked him to listen to my customer experience. Instead of just listening, which is all I asked for, he decided to berate me and blame me and act like a bigot. How dare you speak to a customer like that. I will have to spend thousands to repaid the vehicle from the damage they called. read more

A lady crashed into my parked car and messed it up pretty bad. This place fixed it up like it was before and they did an amazing job!!! The reason for the 2 stars is because they ordered the wrong hubcap. They told my husband that as soon as the right one came in they would give him a call. We never got the call so we called. The employee said that the person we need to speak with was busy and would call us back. Again we never got a call so we called again. They said that the hubcap was in and it's been there for a week!!! They said they'd call us but didn't, then they told us they would let us know when to come by so they can put it on and again never got the call. Everytime we would call we were told something else or to wait blah blah. This place is pretty busy and because of our schedules it's hard to drop by the shop.Wellll it's been a year later and my husband just gave up and my car still has a missing hubcap. Since I can't figure out how to reply to comments and can't seem to find the messages between Caleb and I, I'll just edit my review. Caleb contacted me through messages on yelp saying they have my hubcap. I gave him my husbands number and told him when it would be the best time and day to call. We have busy lives and couldn't figure out a way to have some free time to come to you or you come to us. Caleb kept messaging saying he tried calling my husband several times but we only received one call and that was it. I have been taking my cars to Jay Walton Automotive since 1995, when I moved to Albuquerque. I have been thoroughly satisfied year after year. In 1995, Jay Walton's was the only AAA recommended service facility in Albuquerque. AAA has since started recommending others, but Walton's is the oldest. Mechanics are top notch, service has always been excellent. Being as established as they are, they do tend to be extremely busy, so for maintenance work it's best if you make an appointment rather than just dropping in --- you'll have less of a wait and be happier for it. read more

I stopped by this place because I inadvertently damaged a rent car that I was driving up in Santa Fe and wanted to have an estimate before I returned the car at the airport. All of the people in this facility were helpful. In about 25 minutes I had a written estimate which offered me some psychological relief before returning the car to the rental car company. The young lady at the front desk offered me something to drink while I was inside waiting (in their very clean and cool waiting area). "Matt" (I hope I remembered his name right) was quick and efficient in providing me an estimate. I was t-boned in Albuquerque a couple of months ago and on the recommendation of my son, who works for NAPA, I went to Jay Walton for repairs to my Tacoma. They did a very polished job, the truck looks at least as good as ever. The damage was extensive and took weeks to repair but in the end I was satisfied and they give a really good warranty on their repairs. $1421 for a new carburetor and spark plugs and the spark plug wires . They had my car 3 weeks. Over priced, slow and claimed they tried to find a emergency brake assembly with no luck, Midas found the assembly in 10 minutes. I do Not recommend this company whatsoever. read more

I was rear-ended at a stoplight with significant damage to my 2015 Jeep Cherokee a couple weeks before Christmas, 2017. My dad recommended Jay Walton for repairs, saying they had left a previous car of ours looking "like new" after an accident. I brought my car by for inspection, and Jaqueline, who helped me out at the shop, was communicative and efficient. When the parts for my car arrived, I missed my appointment window. I was told to bring the car in anytime; even around the holidays, the shop was flexible with me. Repairs to the car were done in a timely manner, with great communication when the shop found more damage than had been listed in the original estimate. Jay Walton communicated with the other driver's insurance company directly when extra costs came up. I picked up the car; it had been replaced with original Jeep parts and looked brand new. The car works perfectly and I couldn't be happier with the service. I initially missed my appointment window because, only a few days before, my dad passed away suddenly, and my life turned upside down. I mentioned this on the phone. After service was complete, the employees at Jay Walton sent me a signed sympathy card. That small, unexpected kindness meant a great deal to me. Let me start by saying that I gave them 1 star because there is not an option to give them any less. I strongly advise that you look for another shop!!! These guys are nothing short of crooks. I had my 85 Blazer towed to them to have a brand new engine put into it. I ordered a nice new engine. When they installed the engine, they must have used the oil pan to jack it up, or hammered the oil pan in to place, because the oil pan has a nice giant dent in it. It is BRAND NEW! I asked them, not that it wasn't obvious, to make sure that it ran right. My concern was only for it to be reliable and run as it should. These guys gave me my truck running so rich that I could smell the gas from the tailpipe. Also, the timing was off... like way off. It was hesitating, stalling and sluggish. It certainly wasn't responding the way that you expect a brand new 350 to respond. That isn't it. It was also leaking oil and power steering fluid. Giving them the benefit of a doubt, I took the vehicle back to them. I told them the issues that I was having, hoping that they could rectify them. After all, I just got done paying them over $2500 in labor. These guys proved that they DO NOT take any pride in their work. After getting the vehicle back the second time, I noticed a few things. The first thing that I noticed was that there was STILL power steering fluid leaking after they told me that it wasn't leaking in the first place. Additionally, they were supposed to have changed the oil. Well, even if they did, they DID NOT change the filter. I know, because I marked it! Excuse me if I'm wrong, but isn't the filter change kind of important when it comes to removing metal shavings on a brand new engine? They treated my stuff with absolutely no care. They lied about doing services that they didn't do, and performed poorly on services that they did do. I just had there work corrected at another shop, at almost another $1000 dollars. These guys either have no clue what the hell they are doing, or they don't care whether what they are doing is right or not. Either way, I will be sure to pass the word on my experience. This place is terrible. And I'll tell you why. My husband and I are young and we are here because of my husband's military service. These people tried to get us to pay 1500 dollars for a transfer case and labor when the transfer case was perfectly fine! How do we know? We bought the part and installed it ourselves! It was a quick fix, tightening a nut in the drive shaft. So thanks, Jay Walton, for attempting to rip off two young newlyweds. How embarrassing. read more

BEWARE! Two different estimates for two different damages. The estimate on the side damage went from $1575.31 to over $2500 when the vehicle was brought in for repairs. The hood estimate was "around $700" but went up to $785 when vehicle was brought in for repairs. When I questioned the "around $700" estimate I was told $785 is around $700. Hmmm. I'm not good at math but I think $785 is closer to $800. read more

Their auto shop is great, the people are fantastic and customer service is great!! HOWEVER..the new body shop manager (Jacqueline) is the rudest person ever, she has no sense of customer service and is poor at managing the work. When my daughter first called about repairs, she said it would be a 5 day job, she later said 7, that there was nothing she could do that it was what was required. when I asked why it had changed she actually argued with me and said she had given that time frame to begin with. Unfortunately due to other circumstances we had no choice, so we gave the go ahead. The first set of parts arrived in worse condition than the car, according to them. They didn't know what happened to them in transit but would need to be reordered and it would take 2 more weeks before they could get them again, due to GM stock. So again we waited. When they came in we called, made the appointment to take in the vehicle. We dropped off the car on a Monday ( 7 day repair job, business days) I called the following Monday (5) to check the status as she had not bothered to even provide a courtesy call, she stated it would be thursday or Friday before it was ready. Again it started as 5 days, then went to 7, I am now at 8 and when I contacted her again this morning, she rudely stated it was not ready and wouldn't be ready until the following evening. When I asked her what was going on her response was this "we have other cars being worked on at the same time its not just your vehicle". I don't know about anyone else but being without your vehicle for a couple of days is bad enough, but 2 weeks for a 7 day job is entirely unacceptable to me...and her rudeness on the phone is as well,(she's as nice as can be in person). I will end with this Jay Waltons is awesome at automotive repair, I've referred many friends and family to them and will continue to do so. But that obnoxious person in the auto body side, I wouldn't refer anyone to for any reason. my apologies to the guys doin the work, but Just that one rude, new manager needs a lot of time management, and most importantly customer service training.. what a disappointment to a great business. read more

These guys are knowledgeable, are incredibly fair and do a great job. They are great detectives in tracking a problem down. My little GMC truck had a fuel light that just wouldn't go off. It prevented me from passing an emissions inspection. Jays was tenacious and tracked the problem to wires which had been gnawed by mice. read more

My car battery died in front of their shop, I walked in and asked for a jump, their mechanic had me hang around for 20 minutes until finally the owner/manager came out and told me they don't have the equipment to jump start a car.... He then offered to charge my battery with his charger IF I REMOVED it from the car with no tools. Well, thanks!!!!!!!! I've been taking my '97 Olds Achieva to Jay Walton Auto on Central Avenue for about 10 years now and have really appreciated their professionalism, honest and workmanship. I found them when we moved to ABQ by checking out the AAA approved auto services closest to where we live and they filled that bill nicely. Location and convenience was part of the choosing, but staying there depended on consistent acceptable (to me) service and advice. Walton Auto had told me for a few years now that I had a slow oil leak that wouldn't really damage anything and that I could keep the $$$ in my checking account until it got worse. Well, it did, and what we thought was going to be a $1.200 head gasket job turned out to actually be a $200 oil pressure sender. Clearly they could have done the more expensive job and I wouldn't have known the difference ... but they "did the right think" by me once again ... and that's why I will keep going back and back and back to have them keep my paid-for baby going.
