I was really excited to go to this salon to get my hair dyed and was in the middle of a consultation via text thinking I would be able to make an appointment here after they told me they needed a deposit from me and that they needed to order the hair colour. The problem was that I didn't see this text about the $100 deposit until 3 days later due to my notifications on my phone not going off. I thought when responding to the text that it was alright to continue chatting but that was not the case since I was ghosted/left on read/or blocked since I received zero answers to all my messages. Initially I asked them where to deposit the $100 and got no answer to that as well as everything else I asked. I wondered perhaps if it was vacation time or something but there was nothing at all. I waited a while to hear back. Please amend this, I really wanted to come here to get my hair done as it was my first choice salon to do my hair at but I have other options if the salon does not want my money. OH MY GOD! This place by far was the best salon I have ever been to thanks to Jay the man himself. No I am not a close personal friend nor did anyone request this advertisement. I stumbled upon Jay's work just like any other yelp reviewer. Comparing him to others and doing my research like crazy. I have had virgin hair up until last year and like most, I get extremely scared and anxious when it comes to dying my hair. The first time I decided to change my hair color I had asked the hairstylist (another place) if I could get a full balayage. For some reason she only gave me a partial one which ended up in semi-disappointment. I didn't grow to love my hair or get compliments until 5-6 months later... Upon meeting Jay I had showed him three different pictures and told him anything in between is fine, just as long as the colors aren't too crazy and my hair remains long. He was very attentive to details and walked me through everything he did. Throughout the bleaching/hair dye process I did get a bit nervous, just bc the color got extremely platinum blonde and he started laughing. Probably bc he saw how anxious I was getting and the worry on my face. In the end I got a caramel to ashburn to blonde/silverish color and I am immensely satisfied with the result. I paid $160 for haircut and color (excluding tip) and compared to other salons that charge you $300+ that's a freaking steal! My only issue (if you even want to call it that) was that he took in 4-5 other clients while dealing with me so it pushed back my time a bit, but that's understandable since I was going to be there for awhile anyways. last update, people please check the pics and full text. i just post the amount of hair i lost after i wash the first time. this will be the last time i dye my hair. just my honest opinion with jay and the salon he currently work at now. u paid cheaper for a cheaper service. 1. jay said because i dye my hair before and bleach twice today so it's normal that i lost a lot of hair. please check the pics see how it breaks. 2. color was clearly not even. i only did one color like a violet light purple. again please see the picture i attach i haven't even wash my hair yet. 3.the assistant was def not gentle cuz the second bleach was painful not only just cuz the chemical but also she just pulls hair really hard. 4. jay did apologize. 5. the old Chinese lady refused to give me any discount for compensation of the not even color or hair lost because i choose to pay with card. i paid 174.2 include tips. that would be all. you guys can judge the rest. 2018.10.27 i honestly believe it's your job to evaluate it first then just start doing it. we are customers not professionals like you. i woke up this morning realizing there are more breaks which "i" found out then inform "you", then you goes "yeh it's risky i guess... yeh sorry..." i know u try to blow dry and cover it up, basically the whole centered part of my hair are all broken down. it is your job to tell ur customers what exactly is going on, i do understand there are risks, u didn't even talk or mentioned about it before we started. the not even color is totally ur fault. i didn't ask any ombré just one color. u let ur assistant do it so u can go do other people's hair. how does that even make sense? beside that my ears are having allergic reaction. you should at least tell ur lady boss to compensate me with charging me less, instead u just walk away set down scrolling on ur phone again. very not cool when i don't speak ur language and u guys don't speak english or mandarin much during the paying process. i have been very respectful i tipped 20 for you assistant even when she pulled my hair too hard and parts of the blow dryer just fell down on me TWICE during the whole process. 20 dollars is a really good tips for the whole 140 original price, don't even get me stared why eventually ur lady boss charge me 174.2 because of tax and what not. i respect hard working people. i know how hard it is to survive or make a living in nyc. i pay her 20 despite of the unpleasantness because i respect her and i respect elderly workers. again whoever trying to get a hair cut or hair dye there good luck. you guys are on ur own. read more

Jay does a great undercut for men! He knows how to deal with thick Asian hair, knows how to effectively thin it, and is efficient with the time. He is located in a larger hair salon in Chinatown, and has one seat. The hair salon is really loud with all the people talking just FYI. Just came in yesterday without an appointment and jay was able to see me! I was worried because I have very long black hair and wanted to go much blonder. It worked out great I left with sliver/violet color. Which was exactly what I wanted. He explained what he had to do to achieve the violet tone in my hair at every step.
