Tall Cypress Natural Area Review - Coral Springs, FL…read more Rating: 3.5/5 Tall Cypress Natural Area is a small, peaceful nature preserve tucked away in the middle of Coral Springs. While it didn't completely wow me, it was still a pleasant way to spend some time outdoors and reconnect with nature. Trail & Accessibility The preserve consists of a short elevated boardwalk loop that took us about 25 minutes to complete at a relaxed pace. The pathway is flat, well-maintained, and stroller/wheelchair friendly, making it accessible for visitors of all ages and abilities. One thing I really appreciated was the amount of shade. The canopy overhead kept the walk comfortable, even during the warmer parts of the day. Along the route are two covered viewing pavilions with benches, providing nice spots to sit and enjoy the surroundings. There was also alot of signs and with educational information about the park, wildlife, plants, and more. Wildlife Sightings Despite the trail's short length, we saw quite a bit of your typical wildlife, including: * Numerous Green/Brown Anoles * Ruddy Daggerwing butterflies * Several large Banana Spiders Crowds What surprised us most was how empty the park was. During our entire visit, we didn't see a single other person. Not one. For a nature lover, that solitude was actually a nice bonus and made the experience feel more immersive. ℹ Things Worth Knowing A few observations that aren't necessarily negatives, but are worth mentioning: * There was a noticeable amount of what appeared to be raccoon droppings along sections of the boardwalk. * Much of the water system appeared dried up during our visit. * Visitors must remain on the boardwalk at all times. * Removing plants, animals, shells, or natural materials is prohibited. * Pets are not allowed within the preserve. A Little History Tall Cypress Natural Area protects approximately 66 acres of native cypress swamp and pine flatwoods, one of the last remaining examples of these habitats in Broward County. Interestingly, the preserve exists today largely because local Coral Springs High School students campaigned in the 1980s to save the land from development under a movement called "Save What's Left." The area was ultimately preserved through a partnership between the City of Coral Springs and Broward County. Final Thoughts Tall Cypress Natural Area is a nice, shaded, easy walk with a few wildlife viewing opportunities and a peaceful atmosphere. If you're looking for a quick nature break, it's worth stopping by. However, because of its short length and limited features, I wouldn't consider it a destination attraction.
