What an absolute treasure! Jay's is indeed a super authentic Thai restaurant. We went for lunch. The menu included all of the usual favorites, with clear descriptions of the sauces and other contents. You then pick your favorite meat (or not, if you're not a meat eater), and in just a few minutes are served a plate with your carbs of choice (the rice molded into the shape of a heart was a nice touch), and sharable (or not!) bowls of Thai deliciousness. The service was super quick. Our waitress was really sweet, which was all the more impressive because the place - at 11 on a Wednesday - was packed. And well it should be, given how affordable and generous the food was. Worth noting is that most dishes can be ordered mild, moderate, hot or extra hot. We had moderate and hot spiciness and both were tasty and not overwhelming. Maybe someday I'll work up the courage to order "extra hot" in a Thai restaurant, but not this round. read more

Food is good but service not good. Called my order in about 40 mins in advance. She proceeded to tell me on the phone they were out of spring rolls, egg rolls, all appetizers which was odd. The noodles were so dry they came out of the container in a solid gelatinous brick. Zero flavor. Paid extra for shrimp and got four pieces. My boss took the team here for lunch since most of them had been multiple times. I ordered the L3 Pud Kra Tiem (Garlic), which came with your meat of choice (I chose chicken), broccoli, carrots, and onions served in the house garlic sauce and black pepper. It was served with a side of steamed rice. It was really cute because the rice came out in the shape of a heart! The food was good when we dined in, but I noticed that compared to when we had takeout before the portions were smaller. The people I went with also warned me that the service can be very hit or miss, but it was overall efficient. My family of four has been buying from Jay's for about four years. We always get the same thing and they never disappoint. The Pad Thai with pork and the Garlic Beef are outstanding! They're very generous with their portions as we usually have most of one order of Pad Thai left over. We always order on the phone for pick up to eat at home and it usually takes around 10-15 minutes for the food to be ready. I'm not 100% how dine in service is but take out is great. read more

The food is nothing to write home about. My vegetarian pad Thai with tofu was dry and my vegetable fried rice tasted funny. The restaurant is small and leaves much to imagination on the outside just as much is the inside. Altogether my two dishes came out to $18 and change. I would not go back to try any other dishes, it's not worth the time or money. I saw other ratings and thought that this would be a great place to grab some Thai from and I was very disappointed. Classic and authentic thai cuisine every time. Everything from noddle dishes to rice plates at all levels of spicy goodness. A literal mom-and-pop joint where the mom serves and the pop cooks. Never disappointed when I come here. My family lives in Kokomo and whenever we go in the lady already knows they want the Pud Ke Mow and how they like it. We go every time I am in town to visit; I usually get the number 6 with the Cashews and it is always delicious. Can get busy during lunch so plan ahead, and they are usually closed for holidays and certain days of the week so double check. Very affordable for the portion size. I usually eat the whole plate but it is usually enough for half now and half later. Great for take out too. Check em out!! read more

I'd definitely eat here again. Questions about the menu and some things we saw on the online menu were not actually available, but you have to consider there's a pandemic on and supplies may be harder to come by. We ordered pineapple rice with chicken, cashew chicken stir fry, Thai iced tea, and chicken rice soup. All was delicious. Staff was wearing full PPE and enforcing masks and distancing; I really appreciate that considering Indiana's infection rates are skyrocketing and icu beds are very limited. Recommend. read more

4.5 stars for the food, we love it! However, not 5, due to the beings who were there to "serve." We called while on our way because we know the don't want to stay late (1.5 hrs later) and it was good for us as we didn't have a lot of time. When we arrived we let the first young lady know we had called ahead, "sit anywhere," she said. The other woman came and seemed miffed that we were dining in. Neither female ever appeared to be any more than irritated or as if anything-anything-other than their job would be preferable. Our drinks were thumped loudly on the end of the table-as she walked away without looking at us. After one of us asked for a soda, the woman repeated it as she left and ignored the other. I think the younger mumbled a total of 8 words, no sentences and the other perhaps two sentences, one about paying and one asking if we wanted boxes (about 5 min after we got our food). The "decor" has declined to a bare bones half eat-in half carry out with zero frills. I think we were told in passing we only had 10 min about 50 min before closing time. It was a bit depressing and very disappointing to realize that we will probably only carry out in the future. However, 4.5 stars for food! read more

We had to move from Indy to Kokomo to finally find good Thai food! Listen, the atmosphere of the place is crap...but who cares because you get a huge serving of deliciousness. We have been for lunch and dinner and there is always a steady crowd. We have only seen one young woman serving the entire dining room. She's super sweet, tries to keeps up, but she's the only one there so you have to wait for a drink refill and you'll need to get up and get your own take-out box. No biggie. We don't go for a fine dining experience, we go for pineapple fried rice and pad thai. Our friends literally fight over who gets the last bite of the garlic chicken so I'm going to go ahead and throw that in there as a recommendation as well. Growing up, I loved eating here. Their food was always delicious and well made. However, I recently switched to a plant based/vegan diet for health reasons and necessarily pay much more attention to the ingredients in the foods I eat. Most Thai restaurants I've been too are very accommodating and it's fairly simple for them to hold their ingredients that contain animal products or excess refined fat, or swap them out with other ingredients. I found it very difficult to find anything I could eat here, despite their having a large "vegetarian menu." All of their vegetarian entrees contain fish sauce, oyster sauce, or egg. Most places are happy to omit certain ingredients, as it is usually fairly simple to do. Unfortunately, they were completely unwilling to swap their fish sauce for soy sauce, which made everything on their vegetarian menu inedible for me. This seems odd to me, as I am aware that it is very easy to cook vegetables in soy sauce instead of fish sauce; you just grab a different bottle. Ultimately, we ended up ordering vegetable and tofu fried rice w/o egg, which was served to us swimming in oil and mostly devoid of flavor. I'm sad to say, I am currently not able to eat here as they offer almost nothing that I'm able to eat. This is a very easy problem to solve, and I hope they're able to remedy this issue so that I can continue to enjoy their food in the future. read more

This is as good and authentic of Thai food as I've eaten in any city in the US, and that includes much larger cities. The selection may not be as extensive but the food they are putting out is clearly made to order and made with quality ingredients. I usually get the Pad Thai with chicken or beef &/or the Thai Basil with squid. I never leave without a Thai Iced Tea- (it's gooood.) The food is always hot and well seasoned. I do those crazy wing challenges with ghost chilies for fun so that being said, I normally get hot or Thai hot versions of stuff because I really enjoy it. Most typical American palettes should probably go with mild or regular. The decor is definitely shabby or stereotypical at best, but you're not here for the ambiance, just the food. Definitely call ahead as they keep odd hours and go back to Thailand for weeks at a time sometimes. They can get very busy which can come across as rudeness but if you go in person you'll find the staff is actually very nice, they are just in a hurry/cultural thing. They've always treated me well and my order is always packaged well for carryout, hot, and accurate. The prices aren't cheap by Kokomo standards but quality ingredients cost money. If you tried to buy those ingredients and replicate it yourself you'd spend much more. I get Jay withdrawal when they are closed, it's good stuff! read more

Jay's Authentic Thai is perhaps the most under-appreciated establishments in this great nation. From the outside, it looks like nothing special and the inside is filled with expected oriental decor. But that is where Jay's stops being ordinary. The food is by far the best in Kokomo and, dare I say, the state of Indiana. I moved away from Kokomo in November and I have cried every day. Not because I miss my friends, but because I miss Jay's Authentic Thai. If you are apathetic to spicy foods, go for the mild sauce as it still has a bit of a kick to it. Go to Jay's.
