Well...here's how I ended up going to PR at Partners. Before coming here, I had been going to the same hair stylist since I was 28---yeah, that's a long time but hey, I'm getting old :D Through the years she bounced around to different salons in Tysons Corner (all in the mall). One day, I called to make an appointment. The day before the appointment, I got a call saying that the salon had moved. No longer was it in the mall but in an area of McLean that was a real pain to get to and parking there was also horrible. It really bothered me that my stylist didn't take the time to call me personally to let me know. After all, she did have my phone number. She also once told me she would never leave the mall. I cancelled my appointment after finding that they had moved and never looked back. Now...what to do next? I researched what was in Reston Town Center and came up with PR at Partners. After reading the Yelp reviews, I was concerned as the reviews said the reception staff was rude. But...I decided to walk over there and find out for myself. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the young woman working there was very nice. So, what I did was ask her if there were any stylists who wouldn't be afraid to cut my hair. She said "What's wrong with your hair?" I said, "It's thick, coarse, wavy and frizzy." She said, "Oh, just like mine." I looked at her hair and said "yes". She then gave me the names of 2 different stylists. Apparently, they have different levels of stylists with the most experienced ones charging the most. One of the 2 stylists charged just what my old stylist charged, so I made an appointment with her---and I'm glad I did! My first visit I immediately knew she was the right one when she said "I'm not afraid to cut your hair." Before cutting it, she spent a good amount of time asking what I wanted in a cut, showing me photos then showing me how she would improve on my current cut. For example, she pointed out that the back of my hair could use some shaping. At the end of the appointment, I really liked my haircut---much better than my previous one. She's also taught me a lot about hair care. For example, I finally learned what the diffuser on the hair dryer was for and why I should use it. I feel spoiled going here. When you get a shampoo, the chair also gives you a back massage. Good thing it doesn't take long to wash my hair or I would end up falling asleep---the massage is that nice! I've never come across a rude receptionist either. All have been friendly and patient. In fact, one day I walked in and the receptionist said "Susan?" I didn't expect that. The day before my appointment, I always get an email asking me to confirm that I'm still coming. My last appointment in 2019, I was told if I booked the first one for 2020 right then I would get a coupon to save $10 on the next appointment. All this makes me feel like the appreciate their customers. Now I can walk to my appointments, which is great. I'm so glad I made the change! read more

Eileen was my stylist while I lived in Reston, and my hair was always perfect. She knew what my hair would do and worked with that. I moved away 12 years ago and missed having a good cut. So I drove 90 min this week just to see her, and it was so worth it! I told her I missed her "dancing scissors," and the way she uses them so creatively. Found my salon, finally! I had a great first experience with my stylist, Ezra. He was so young yet knowledgeable and confident at what he does. I love that I can talk to him about my ideas and he was very open minded and he did give suggestions as well, based on the ideas I had. I like that he takes his time and makes sure that I am satisfied along the way. The one thing though was that I originally asked for some big layers but didn't get that and ended up with some sort of a bob cut instead. The manager, DeeDee is one of the worst humans I've come across in a while. A client came in (newly diagnosed with cancer) and wanted to donate her hair to Wigs for Kids. Not only did the manager tell her she had to pay for her haircut, she caused a scene in the salon for everyone to hear that "the salon gets nothing out of a free haircut". Personally I thought that was uncalled for and made me uncomfortable. I wanted to jump up and tell her that I would pay for the haircut. It was just so mean of her to say that to a young woman with cancer who just wanted to donate her hair. I truly only go to this salon for my stylist. He's amazing. read more

This rating is for the front desk service because I didn't even go through with the services here because of how unprofessional my encounter was. The girl working the front desk was extremely condescending and rude throughout our entire conversation. I drove all the way there to find out that my stylist went home sick, which is fine that happens but that isn't even why I highly recommend you stay away from this place. I approach the front desk excited to get my hair done and what I get is a blank stare from the receptionist. No smile. No how are you. I actually asked her those things while I confirmed who I was and what time my appointment was TO WHICH she talked over me and said "You need to fix your phone." Okay, hello to you too. She explained that the stylist went home sick and that I could reschedule. Again, that's fine. Life happens. However what's not fine is whatever this shitshow was. I'm sure it was more of an inconvenience trying to call my phone twice than me driving 45 minutes for you to give me attitude. I out of instinct (!) apologized to HER and said I did not receive any calls. I asked her to pull up the calendar and help me book an appointment for anything Fr-Sun because I work 9-5 Monday through Friday. Naturally, she kept pulling up afternoon slots M-F while staring at me like I just ran over her cat. One of her coworkers came up to the front desk to say something to her and in the middle of trying to "book an appointment" for me" she is having a full fledged conversation while I am just standing there. I ended up getting so frustrated I told her I would figure it out myself and book online. She said "Okay" with the fakest smile ever and turned right around to talk to her coworker. I am so glad that interaction happened here or else I would not have met the amazing stylists and team at the PR at Partners in Tysons Corner. I do not shell out hundreds of dollars and my customer loyalty for you to dish out attitude and half assed customer service before it even starts. read more

READ THIS BEFORE SCHEDULING HERE! I would not recommend this place to anyone who actually likes their hair. I had Ismail Buber give me a haircut and he did nothing of what I asked for. I asked for him to keep my hair long and to reach my armpit, he cut it so short that it doesn't even reach my collarbones. I asked for layers and he gave me a straight haircut. I asked him to be extremely careful because my sister's wedding is in 2 months and I needed to put my hair up in a ponytail so that it would compliment the dress I bought, but I now have to buy a new dress because I can no longer put my hair up in a ponytail. So if anyone who actually likes their hair and wants someone to care about it the same way they do DO NOT GO HERE AND DO NOT ASK FOR ISMAIL. He is extremely arrogant and will ignore all that you ask for. If I could give this place 0 stars I would!!! read more

Ismail rocks! He's been coloring & cutting my hair for more than 10 years. I followed him to several other salons, and now we've come full circle back to PR. Wherever Ismail works is my favorite salon! PR has moved a few doors down since I last frequented it. They do color upstairs - not so disability friendly. The arrangement of tables & chairs is awkward, but I guess they're trying to maximize space. The chairs (up & down) aren't particularly comfortable, but the sink adjusts to you neck nicely. The music isn't to my taste... But Ismail is there so they get 5 stars by me! read more

There are hair salons and then there is one that has the one and only Rita. I've been going to Rita for over 10 years! She saved my hairstyle from "female version of Harry Potter" to something chic, with long layers. I always leave refreshed and taken care off. Rita is a pro when it comes to sexy, sophisticated hair styles. If you are a rising hair stylist and want to learn new styles, how to work with color, etc., you want to be Rita's apprentice. She is very patient and a great teacher. The only reason why I don't give this place five stars is because year after year they seemed to fail miserably when it comes to reception staff. They are unresponsive. They are dismissive. They put you on hold all the time. And some of them are not familiar with the services the salon offers, so you actually have to spell it out for them. I always take a deep breath when it's time to call and make another appointment. You never know who is on the other line. read more

This experience was a million times better than the place I had been going. I decided to try somewhere new because I was getting mediocre results elsewhere. Laura did a wonderful job start to finish (with the help of others with the shampoo and drying). The consultation she listened to what my "issues" were and provided a game plan for the afternoon. When we were through with the color process the cut was great also. I haven't liked a haircut this much in a very long while. Also very pleased with the end result of the color! The scheduling was a little hectic- it seems there were several conflicts with what services were booked and what clients actually wanted (mine included) but Laura accommodated very well and managed to make everything I had thought I'd booked come through as well. read more

I've been going to many PR locations and tried out many hairstylists and I think I finally landed on my favorite spot of all. The funny thing is I wasn't even planning to go, it was a whim appointment that was delightfully surprising! The staff here were incredibly friendly. Something I don't experience in the other locations. Though I didn't have an appointment, they were happy to schedule one that day and accommodate me. I filled out the first-time client questionnaire, grabbed lunch, and came back to what I would call the best PR haircut experience I've ever had. I was in the hands of Izzy, a super cool stylist who gave me a haircut session like no other. She went through the questionnaire in detail, something no other stylist has ever done. She was very communicative with the products that she used as well as her methods. I got the rejuvenating massage during the hair wash, with a shot of cold water at the end. I may need to extend this next time! The massage was incredible. It was enjoyable to watch Izzy work through my hair in her perfectionist way. It was almost like watching a show. I got the exact cut that I wanted and I couldn't stop running my fingers through my very smooth hair! She even taught me how to style it at home. It's been a long search. I was told I was seeing someone great at balayage. My stylist was unfriendly; I showed her pictures of inspo and she didn't even try to work with me or try to understand what I wanted. (A basic balayage?) She spent more time on the bottom layers and the top doesn't even look blonder. The "money shot" in the front is just two streaks. I asked why she wasn't coloring other parts of the front (the most obvious areas!) and she said "yeah I'm not touching that." I told her I wanted blonder and she painted over my already balayaged areas. $350 waste and left feeling belittled. For someone nervous about getting hair done, THIS is exactly why. She didn't try once to make me feel comfortable and I left looking the same as before except for two streaks in the front. Only getting 2 stars because of the woman who washed my hair who could tell I had been crying. read more

ISMAIL has been cutting and highlighting my hair for almost 16 years now and he is, quite simply, the best!! I can't imagine anyone else touching my hair! I even moved from NOVA to Montgomery County and still make the pilgrimage to see him every 8 weeks. The (fairly) new location gives customers and stylists a lot more elbow room than the last location and the reclining massage chairs at the washbowls is a really nice added touch. The only thing I would suggest is that some of the junior stylists can leave their "projects"/ practice heads out and there is a bit of chatter at the coloring/ highlighting area that could be curtailed a bit, but other than that, it's a great place. I will be coming back for years to come! read more

Shockingly bad customer service. I called a week in advance for an appointment for a cut, and the only time that even remotely fit my schedule was the following Friday morning at 9 AM. I wasn't crazy about going in to work late, but I needed a cut and I often travel for business, so I figured I'd take that slot. Showed up just before 9 AM, the receptionist was pleasant but told me the stylist was 'running late' and would be there in a few minutes. No biggie, I know traffic can be hard to predict around here. TWENTY minutes later the receptionist came to me and said "She's never this late, I'll call her." Turns out, the stylist NEVER does appointments before 10 AM and so didn't even know she had an appointment scheduled. This despite the fact that there was the obligatory "you have an appointment scheduled" confirmation call the previous day. I was not offered a cut with a different stylist, even though there were a couple who were clearly not busy at that time. I was, however, offered an opportunity to wait several days and come back. Um, no thanks. So, I was late for work, I still need a cut, and my hair looks like crap today because I didn't style it after my shower since I supposedly had an appointment for a cut. If you want to take a chance on the same thing happening to you, go ahead and make an appointment. But take your curling iron with you, just in case... read more

I have been seeing Aja for the past 7 years and I refuse to see anyone else. I see her for highlights, base color, and cut. I have dark hair naturally but I prefer to be a blondish/brown which is no easy task. I seriously get compliments on my hair everywhere I go, thanks to her amazing job. I also love her because no one can blow dry my curly hair the way Aja can, she is the human flat iron. I don't like to cut my hair often so when I say "trim", I mean "trim" and Aja actually listens to me and never chops my hair off. Now don't get me wrong , she does make recommendations and advises me on what she thinks is best for my hair, but always leaves the decision up to me. This was my first time going to PR and I was excited because of the good words that I had heard. Well was I in for a shocker. The entire time i was there, my stylist continued to tell me how damaged my hair was and how dry my hair was and how i had "seriously hurt the integrity of my hair". This continued the whole entire time (2hours- ya 2 hours for a freaking hair cut). I explained to her earlier in the appointment that i had used head and shoulders last night and did not condition my hair and that was why it was dry. I have great hair, its my best asset and to have someone tell me over and over again that my hair is in horrible shape- is less then welcoming. Aren't you supposed to make me want to come back? Once she said i have thicker hair than anyone shes seen, i should ran out the door ... Anyway- i wanted about an inch off and a bunch of layers and great movement. What i got- 3 inches off, no layers and a lopsided haircut. Since then, i have worn my hair in a ponytail every. single. day. I really don't want my money back, i want my hair back. I called today to make an appointment for someone to at least even my hair out and was on hold for 10 minutes and then was forced to take an appointment time that requires me to leave work early. All i need is 10 minutes for someone to fix my hair. This whole situation has honestly exhausted me. I have lost some self esteem, considering that I didn't want shorter hair because it makes me look chubby (which i also explained) and just makes me sad because i waited a year to grow my hair out and find a salon i thought i would be comfortable at (WRONG)and -ended up with a chop job. read more

I went here a few weeks ago, and definitely will not be coming back. The receptionist when I walked in was shrewd and definitely lacked any customer services skills. I sat and waited for my hair stylist to get done with her previous client for 30 minutes. The shampoo girl was the only nice person in that building, I left her a bigger tip than my stylist. My hair stylist (if you could even call her a stylist) was Jennifer Renee. She pretty much shrugged me off, and it felt like she thought she was too good to do someone's hair like me. After listening to her talk to a fellow stylist the whole time about some married guy with a baby that she was dating, she put a little bit of product in my hair, blow dryed it (without even styling it at all), and sent me on my way. I chose my stylist, Aja, based on a recommendation from the receptionist when I asked who was best with short hair. I have to say that Aja does a really fantastic job with my cuts. The shop is very noise and quite small, so be prepared to hear the conversations going on all around you. And be prepared to have everyone around you hear your conversation as well. For the good haircuts, I give this place a thumbs up. For the expected tips for the shampoo service to the blatant product whoring, I give it a thumbs down. If there is a rep from one of the product companies, forget it. You will get the whole spiel. I highly recommend Aja! She is young, fun, and knows how to work magic with scissors! read more

Updated after more visits & a different hairdresser... Visit 1: Saw Llana -- very nice and does do a good job, but simply did not get me what I had envisioned when I went for my first highlight. Perhaps this was my own miscommunication in describing the color I was going for incorrectly, but either way, it just didnt fit -- after a few weeks I still wanted something different. Visit 2: Decided to give the salon another chance, but went with a different person (Christina). Quite good, very knowledgeable and definitely knows what she's talking about. Gave me exactly the color I wanted, great style, and I continue to see her now. Salon itself is OK -- no frills but nice, well-decorated and clean. Hair only, although they sell some make-up. They all push products a little bit but I've never felt pressured, and I do buy pretty much all my hair products from here anyway, they are helpful in choosing. All in all, I recommend it! Just find the right person for you. I definitely recommend Christina. read more
