Thai here is absolutely delicious. It's flavorful, it's right. But what puts this place in a category of it's own is how spicy they can make stuff. It just so happens to be that I love spicy food. The spicier the better, and in a typical Thai kitchen, nobody can make the food spicy enough. Ever. In fact, I started coming up with these challenges for the chefs. So when the waiter asks how spicy do I want it, I'd say something like: "tell the chef to make it as spicy as he can", or "hit me with all they got". At Jay's, when the waitress asked me how spicy do I want it, I said: "tell the chef that if he can't make me cry, I'm not paying for it." So I issued this challenge all over US and Canada, and nobody ever came close to me saying that it was spicy. Jay's Thai Food in Marion, Indiana did. I cried, I hiccuped, I sweated. I recently ordered carry out from Jay's Thai in Marion. I ordered pineapple fried rice. I have ordered it a couple of times before and enjoyed it. This time it was different. The flavor was "off" It tasted like curry powder from the local grocery store, and definitely didn't have Thai flavors. Also, I could not find any pineapple pieces in the fried rice- zero, zip! I have tried to support this place for several years. We drive about 45 minutes each way to order food from Jays. We absolutely LOVE Thai food! The service and customer service in general is terrible. We often have to order things mild or without items for our toddler who loves Thai food as well. Tonight the staff was making comments as we were paying about how many items we asked for our order to be made without. It was frustrating and rude. We don't have to make the drive to support them but have chosen to spend our money there. The website even lists that menu items can all be made to order and changed to add or take away things. Hopefully our next experience will be better. By the time we got out to go order home our mild items were actually very spicy so our toddler and I ended up eating Mac & cheese instead. The new owners have GREATLY improved the food and the service. The portions are big, and the flavor is way better. Before, it was pretty bland and even at the hottest "Thai hot" flavor it was barely spicy. Now it can get pretty spicy depending on the spice level you choose. Beautiful atmosphere, lovely people work here, the food is phenomenal and so are the drinks too! Under new ownership and I love the changes and improvements they've made to the place. They sell little handcrafted items and paintings by local artists. This is a sit down restaurant where every meal is cooked only after you order it and how you want it. So, everything is always hot and fresh, come early and give yourself time to enjoy it. I'm gluten intolerant and dairy intolerant and this is one of the few places in town with delicious options for people like us. 100 percent recommend this place and if you don't like this place, you're definitely the problem, not them. read more

I love this place! The staff is always so sweet, and food is always top notch! My fav dishes are the cashew stir fry (and I add ginger for a small upcharge which is SO WORTH IT!) and the crab rangoon! Their Rangoons are my favorite goons of all timmmmmmme. They are different than any other place I've had crab rangoon. I feel like a lot of places just make them mostly crispy wrapper and sometimes the filling is even dried out. Not Jay's! The way they fold it allows for way more creamy crabby goodness to be stuffed inside. The wrapper is soft and chewy except for the edge you get that crispy crunch! Just simply perfection. alright people, can we talk about how HUGE their portions are? I've been here many times, but only for dinner; today was the first lunch I had here! Good business lunch! Ordered Pad Thai or what they refer to as Pud Thai. It came just as ordered with medium heat, was really flavorful and was as good as any Pad Thai I've had. Thought the lunch prices were really reasonable for the amount of food I was served. Delicious. Don't let the strip mall fool you. This is a great little place. The menu is fairly simple. We started with shrimp in a blanket-crispy little rolls in a sweet-sour sauce. Husband had the fried rice, hot. A huge portion and the heat was just right, not super spicy, but had kick. I had the Garlic beef, mild. During my time in the area Jay's Thai has been a great way to have some variety in the college diet! The prices are rounded to make what you pay an even amount so you don't deal with much change. Quaint little place set in strip mall type place. It has maybe 20 tables. Only one person was working the floor when I was there so service was quite slow at times for some tables. Very friendly and helpful with the menu though! I had the broccoli and chicken medium hot. Chicken was sliced perfectly. I didn't care for the oyster sauce or the flavor of the spices all that much. So, normally their food is pretty good. However, I made a specification on my order and they did not accommodate me. When I picked up my food, I could clearly see on the ticket that they made my food incorrectly. I asked them to re-make it and they said it would take longer than I had available for my lunch hour (25 minutes to remake plus drive time). I feel like they should have "fixed" the issue in some way. I left unhappy. The food here is pretty top notch. Especially the curry. Significantly less sweet than others I've had and that's a good thing. The "ethnic food" expert "from Chicago" mentions that they don't have fresh spring rolls. Untrue. They do and they are great. Where Jay's is failing is with service and product. In both of these areas they seem to be finding it difficult to keep up with demand. If I come in one day and you are out of an ingredient, that's infortunate. Jay's is one of our favorite spots in Marion, a small town which is wanting for good eateries. Great curries and stir frys (careful, though: spice levels can vary!), wonderful Pad Thai and crab rangoon. If you have never had Thai food or aren't familiar with it, you might like this place. Apparently others do as the tables were full. But if you are familiar with Thai food and, like me, my favorite kind of food, stay far away. I travel the country for my job but focus on the upper Midwest. So if a Thai restaurant is unfamiliar to me, I stick with the basics like Drunken Noodles. I'm very particular about my curries. No matter where I go, Drunken Noodles taste the same or at least relatively close. Just like going somewhere to eat for breakfast. Eggs and pancakes are going to taste relatively the same anywhere you go. So I ordered Drunken Noodles. Medium hot. I always go medium if I have never been there. Sometimes it needs a little more and sometimes I'm just happy I didn't order the hot. The menu said "large flat noodles" which is correct but what came looked like noodles you put in stroganoff. But other than that, it looked like Drunken Noodles. Problem is, it tasted nothing like Drunken Noodles. And remember, this is a dish that tastes the same pretty much where ever you go. It was extremely bland for whatever flavor they were going for. And medium hot? I could tell they put a little something in it but I've had mild that had more kick. Now it didn't taste bad. It just didn't taste like it's supposed to taste like, what little flavor it did have. Because of this, I'm sure the locals who may never been to a good Thai restaurant think this place is pretty good. That's fine. But if you are visiting and know Thai food, maybe a pizza would be the best choice. read more

Went to Jay's for the first time tonight with the wife. We had heard good things about it and finally decided to try and are glad we did!
