Spicy Tuna Roll wrapped in Cucumber
Anjou S.

We traveled from Houston, TX to Marion for Thanksgiving and were pleasantly surprised at this Sushi place. This was some of the best sushi we had. Fresh and customized! I asked for Sushi wrapped in cucumber instead of rice and the chef made this amazing spicy tuna roll wrapped in crunchy cucumber. I think they should add it to the menu! Best low carb option! Family also had hibachi and other rolls and everyone was very happy with the taste. Service was also good. Only comment is around the decor which could use a little refreshing.

Good food, good prices, pleasant service, dated setting. While dining here, I noticed most of the lunch crowd got their food to go. But since I had been in my car most of the day, I wanted to get out. So, I placed an order for gyoza (6 small pork dumplings) and the Teryaki Chicken Bento Box which comes with a choice of soup or salad (Egg drop soup for me). The soup was lighter in color and maybe a bit thinner than other soups I've had elsewhere, but the flavor was full of egg (and a bit of salt). The gyoza was next and came with a dipping sauce. The plate was colorfully presented with shredded carrot ribbons in the pinwheel center. Nice balance of crispy outside and tender inside. Good flavor! The bento box contained a single, but large, crabmeat rangoon, a 4-pc California roll, about a cup of mixed rice, and a decent lunch sized portion of chicken and veggies prepared in a thin Teryaki sauce. The chicken was a little bit overcooked, but not enough to ruin the meal. The veggies were also thoroughly cooked beyond al dente. The service was efficient and got my food out and check processed so that all too soon, I was back on the road. Review #2246

Rolls and Katsu
Matt P.

Delicious food. Good price. Clean place. We had three rolls - the Fantasic, the crazy, and the Atomic - plus the Chicken Katsu hibachi dinner. Tsing Tao is always a delicious pairing with sushi. Don't miss out on the awesome bathroom doors ;)

I love the food and quality. The wait time isn't the best but it still a good date night spot.

My wife and I used to love this place. We started eating there during the ending of covid…read moresituations and the food was great. The egg rolls were amazing. Large and stuffed with veggies and fried crispy without being greasy....alas this has apparently changed. We went there today and got our usual orders (toss, and sweet and sour with yum yum sauce for my wife's rice) the egg rolls were tiny and very greasy with a very strong fish taste. The fried rice was bland and flavorless with next to no veggies, egg, or anything. My general tsos despite the sauce being a decent flavor was dry and stringy, and just this side of inedible. Was definitely not worth 30 freaking bucks. How the mighty ninja has fallen

We were promptly waited on by friendly staff who brought our food to our table. The restaurant has a nicely sized menu and will even make things and not listed. Their peanut avocado rolls are good as well as the avocado asparagus rolls they made for me that weren't a listed option. The more affordable avocado rolls are my favorite rolls. Their miso soup is good, but my absolute favorite is the vegetable tempura here. The sweet potato, broccoli, mushroom, onion, and peppers? are all good, but I could make a meal out of nothing but an entire tray of the zucchini. The person I dined with has gotten a salmon bento box both times. Cold bottled drinks are available in a cooler. I'm not sure if their fountain drinks are in working order but was told their fountain water didn't taste good at all. They also do not have any ice. Halloween spider webs complete with fake spiders are still hanging in May, and the tables and glass doors could use a bit more cleaning. If you dine in, your food is still usually in semi to go fashion but on a tray. I've been able to request containers and a bag as well as chopsticks. Being in an old former fast food building with a few flaws including a handwritten sign on the blank drive thru menu, it's nothing fancy and probably not where I'd go for a special occasion. However, the food is really good, and the prices are reasonable, so it fills the need for Japanese food in an area where there are few dining options. I believe they also have Chinese food on the menu and that the people here are from China. Dine in and take out are both available. You can even opt for pickup at the drive thru window. I'm assuming you would call ahead for that. There is some seating outside on the front patio. I am particularly fond of the booths where I can view the mostly red wall mural containing many cats in the artwork. Despite being somewhat of a hole in the wall, the food does meet or exceed what I have had elsewhere. It's fast yet made with care. It's a great option for vegetarians and vegans - something not easily found around here. I'm sure I'll return when I'm in Wabash and need an avocado roll and tempura fix.

Unfortunately, my most recent experience was not as positive, and I found myself disappointed--though not due to any major issues. When I arrived at 11 a.m., right as the restaurant opened, there seemed to be adequate staff and they certainly weren't too busy to pay attention to the two tables dining at the time. I have no issue with staff taking a moment to chat, but I wish they had focused a little more on the guests who were dining. We ordered green tea, which is served in a metal teapot. The protocol is that if one person orders it, they receive the teapot, and if two people order it, they get one teapot to share. However, what surprised me was that despite finishing our tea, no one came by to offer us a refill. It would have been nice for someone to ask if we wanted more, especially given that we had finished the first pot. I also ordered the vegetable udon, hoping for a flavorful dish filled with fresh vegetables. Sadly, when it arrived, it lacked any vegetables and was quite bland. The overall taste was underwhelming, which was disappointing, as I had expected better. I pushed the plate to the side, indicating that I wouldn't be eating it. No one noticed. My plate was hardly touched, and not once did any staff member, including what I presumed to be the manager based on his demeanor, come over to inquire about my meal. He passed by my table at least three times without asking if everything was okay. I would have appreciated the opportunity to provide feedback. While I must say that everything else I tasted, aside from the udon, was delicious, the lack of attention to detail--such as not offering a refill for my tea and not inquiring about my dining experience--left me feeling neglected. It was truly disappointing to leave with an untouched plate and not a single word from the staff addressing my concerns even after we declined the offer container to take home the meal.

I ordered takeout. Service was quick. It just wasn't as friendly as when they first opened. Maybe a little too fast? We were welcomed to sit in a booth as we waited. The wooden seating was uncomfortable. The seating area, table, floors, and restroom seemed sticky and dirty. It felt stuffy and greasy inside. My food was okay. It just wasn't giving an oomph feeling of wanting more. I like to be dancing in my seat with joy when consuming my favorite foods including Japanese fare. This didn't have that feeling. My tempura didn't sit well with me. I can't say it was food poisoning for sure, but I wouldn't order it again after that experience. I suspect old oil in the fryer perhaps. The hot tempura also melted through the Styrofoam containers they were in. I wish that businesses would stop using Styrofoam. While its being overpriced since it's the only Japanese restaurant in a town which already has extremely limited food options sort of makes sense, it's just not worth a third revisit for me when it comes to cleanliness and taste. On a positive note, I did take notice that the rolls I had were cut into much more manageable pieces this visit. That made it easier to chew without making a mess and looking like I lacked table manners.

Okay, so picture... you're in a place that was a bar and grill server veal cutlets not very long…read moreago. And you order... um... what's this again? Ah, okay, Japanese tempura, sushi, sashimi, okay, got it... except, why is the television on wall playing Chinese folk songs? And why is every single person on staff speaking Mandarin? All of the "huh" factor aside, this is a credible take on a middle of the road Japanese restaurant. And c'mon, this is in Peru, Indiana, not Carmel or Fishers. So, extend a little slack, tuck in, and enjoy a pretty decent Japanese meal!
