If you are up for a full dinner, the food is second to none. For many years I went to hear the great John Johnthis, and was so excited to hear that Terrific Terri is now holding down the fort. The first time I heard Terri play and sing was at a wonderful restaurant in Green Hills -- since gone the way of all flesh. I told Terri after the show "I'll bet your parents were shocked when you came into the world White and Blonde." (She told me later that was the finest compliment she had ever received.) Of course, I said that, because she covers Dionne Warrick like no one I have ever hear, and get's down on the Blues. It is hard to say whether Terri is a better singer or jazz pianist. She is simply terrific at both. Terri has a great personality and talks to the audience between tunes, which is both enlightening and entertaining. So I am awarding V'Lounge Five Stars and look forward to my next vist.

The daytime tour of the…read moreRyman is a great option for tourists and locals alike to go behind the scenes and learn and see more of the history of the "mother church", as it's called. At night, there's no venue I'd rather choose for a concert! There's practically no bad seat in the house; unfortunately, there are a few seats directly behind pillars that do get sold as viable seats. Other than that, any seat in this rather intimate venue is worthwhile. I've had the privilege of seeing numerous shows here (Opry tapings, Carly Pearce, Brandon Lake, Vance Joy, etc.) and would recommend both ground and balcony level seating! Tonight, I saw the fifth annual Breland & Friends concert benefitting Oasis from balcony section 13, row A, seats 1-2 - and dare I say that's the best view I've had yet. Front row of the balcony seating, center stage, room to stretch legs - unbeatable! Service is solid at the Ryman - from ushers to guide you to your seats to bartenders serving food and drinks. Security tonight seemed patient and friendly, too, setting the stage for a great night ahead!

This is the historic "Mother Church of Country Music," and is still famous for its near-perfect acoustics and iconic oak pews. Walking the permitter of the outside is impressive enough, including the statues of country music icons such as George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Bill Monroe, Charley Pride, and Little Jimmy Dickens. Inside, a statue of Roy Acuff and Minnie Pearl sits in the lobby. These sculptures celebrate artists who shaped the venue's 130-year history. Then there were to huge performers buses within the small parking lot, a reminder that the Grand Ole Opry may have moved to the suburbs, but this place still shines as a performance venue.

There's a row of boots on the wall, which I think is for display only and a call out to the time when they actually sold boots here. This historic building itself feels like a shotgun (long and narrow) and apparently once served as a Civil War warehouse and later the Sho-Bud Steel Guitar Company. To prolong our stay, we ordered cheeseburgers and beer (fries and onion rings were extra) for brunch. I tried to interest folks in their $6 "Recession Special" - A grilled or fried bologna sandwich piled high, with a bag of potato chips, a Moon Pie, and a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) beer, but got no takers. We sat up on the balcony, which we had all to ourselves and with a nice view to the main floor below. Our waitresses were down home friendly, hard working, and good at what they were doing. We felt right at home and this was perhaps the most classic and authentic Nashville experience we had here. The band even wished my Happy Birthday. :)
