[[HIGHLIGHT]]Full bar and large open concept with the possibility of dancing to the music.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Several local patrons sitting near us filled me in more on the history of the property. Specifically, that it's not nearly as appealing as it used to be prior to changing ownership to a larger management group who apparently came in and "white washed" the place[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. It was an entirely unpleasant experience. Secondly, the security guard who was handing out wristbands was dropping all of the plastic backing pieces on the ground. Very simple drinks, probably depends on the event that's going on, but no complaints at all. I really enjoyed checking out this historic venue in Nashville! It is really really small which is awesome for more intimate shows. There's an upstairs area with chairs for those who like to sit. However, it's hard to see the stage with the lights. I stood towards the back and could definitely still see the stage which was great. I love small venues because of the energy. The walls were covered with photos and names of artists who have performed there. They have water and cups on the side of the bar so you don't have to wait in line to get it. The only downside was I wish our bags were checked. It would make me feel safer. read more

Colin really acted like he was a big time star with a body guard in front and one behind...no one even noticed him while listening to Will, who was so humble and appreciative to the fans. Exit/In is a great midsize venue in Midtown Nashville! Parking isn't the best, but not the worst. I generally find a spot within a few block walk. Ticket prices are cheap, love that I can see a great under the radar band for $25. It's connected to Hurry Back if you want to grab food before a show. People are nice. It gets crowded so bring your comfy shoes as you'll be standing. A Nashville favorite, for sure! read more

This is a bar, kind of a dive bar, but a bar to see up and coming acts! IT WAS PERFECT IN THAT SENSE! We were driving to Nashville and our original concert tickets were cancelled, so we needed something to do! I start looking for some music and notice that Nicotine Dolls are playing that night in this venue. We say screw it and buy tickets (out of the four in the car, I am the only one that knew who they were). We get to the venue, basic place with hand stamp, etc. waiting in line outside for it to open up! Most of the first floor seating is all reserved so we are like ugh yeah no, can't stand for hours and went upstairs. Found some great seats up there and it was the perfect place to see the show. The drinks were good, the location and venue were not too big and not too small but you were crammed in (exactly what you expect from a small dive bar). The sound was wonderful. It is a great venue to see any act. And of course, my friends were blown away with Nicotine Dolls! I would say intimate venue that you should not miss. read more

This is a cool intimate venue. The parking isn't the best. I suggest finding free street parking a few blocks away and walking. You enter through a bar, and make your way to the venue. We also had actual tickets which was nice, since almost everything is mobile these days. The bouncer took our tickets and let us in. The venue is small with two levels, however you can't see too well up too unless you are at the railing. The show we went to was sold out and it was packed! But the crowd did make the show better. They had photos and names of all the bands and acts that have played there in the past, and it was fun to look at. The bar and bathrooms were fine, and there was a water station. I do suggest getting your merch in the very beginning and don't wait. I also do wish they had a bag policy. read more

Okay. The negatives: Door staff checking Id's and Tickets have been rude every visit. The mens room is is small and the sink doesn't inspire feeling of cleanliness. in fact it seems like the restroom isn't cleaned very often. The location is very strange being basically on the stage. The sound is not the best here. Bands that I've seen at the basement east or mercy and here have sounded better in those other locations. Then new entrance through the restaurant seems unnecessary and frustrating. Positives: There is usually plenty of space In the room. Doesnt feel too tight with the crowd and the balcony area has a nice view. Bartenders have made some excellent drinks. read more

Getting to this venue early to see one of your favorite artists is not a good idea. You'll want to have as little interaction with the power hungry security guards who start yelling orders as soon as you step into the line. I understand their job is to establish and maintain order but the rude vibe they give is totally unnecessary. I was told by other people in line this is normal, so maybe it's just that I don't get out enough. The bartenders were polite and made amazing looking and tasting drinks. The sound and lights were great as well and the A/C was pumping so it didn't feel hot despite the large amount of people that were packed inside. After reading reviews, I wanted to voice my own opinion as the previous ones mention a lot of the rude service or angry staff. We came early (it stays pretty empty until about 10 mins before the show starts btw!) and got in with no issue. No hassle with the doormen, will call was quick, they just asked for my ID and name. Bartenders were quick to serve us and we had no issues getting more drinks throughout the concert. It wasn't particularly crowded for our show and we had a great time. There's a "tiki bar" sign for the patio but there was no bar for our event, just an outdoor space where everyone took smoke breaks during the show. There's a small upstairs area with a few bar stools near the front, which would've been great for those who don't like to stand the whole time. Merch booth was tucked in a corner in the back so it didn't interrupt the show. Bathrooms are small but accessible. read more

So for my 1800th review the Exit/In is a worthy venue. I saw my Oxford, MS pals the Kudzu Kings here and crazy Kudzu Dave, the bass player, virtually lives at my house in New Orleans about half the year and I've known the folks in the band from since and before the band started. I was also glad to see quite a few folks from long ago that I hadn't seen in many years show up for the show so that made the whole experience even better. The venue is spacious while not being too big to lose the ability to have a good view of the performance from pretty much all over the space so it was intimate without being cramped. They also have an upstairs balcony level area that also adds some more good space to view the show. The sound quality in the space was also of good quality which isn't always the case in some venues. I was also happy to see that this space has hosted a LOT of famous and less famous quality bands and they have a pretty extensive list of them on the wall behind the bar. The bar service was quick and easy but it did take the bartender's longer than average to remember my tab. The Tiki Bar exit that leads to their patio did not have a Tiki Bar but it does lead off pretty near to Cafe CoCo which is an awesome place to grab a snack and more beer after a show! Overall this is definitely an awesome venue to watch a show in and it is just a perfect size place to have a great music experience. read more

I came visited this place due to a concert that was scheduled here for the artist Elohim. I will say that is aas very funny and a pretty good venue. They had an array of drinks available and everyone was generally nice. The restrooms were clean and the atmosphere was very inviting. I will say that the main drawback lies in the fact that you can't exit and re-enter, even if u give them your ticket or anything like that. This was very annoying as a friend of mine had her purse and couldn't enjoy the show. The other bodyguard was very nice tho and let her stash it onstage in front of us. Overall it was a fun experience and I recommend checking this place out! read more

What a fun venue! I've lived in nashville my whole life and have just been here for the first time. I wish I had gone for something else sooner. The ambience is very intimate but not too crowded and the sound was great. They have a balcony area with some stools that allows you to see from the back if your not a front row type of person. The bar is large, allowing for multiple orders at a time. I liked that everything was black and white inside as well, which made all the focus on the band and not the decor. This is one of the best venues I have ever been to. It would get five stars if not for the pudgy, power tripping doorman with zero people skills. This venue is an intimate setting where the band and the audience can feel each other's energy effortlessly. My wife and I flew in from out of town to see a band that wasn't coming to our town. Exit/In is a small/mid-size (500 people) capacity music venue in Midtown Nashville. Their calendar often features smaller artists but a variety of genres. I came here on a night where there were 3 rock bands. As the bands were smaller/local the place was not at all packed so it was nice to be close to the stage and not have my personal space invaded. Venue: 3.5/5 The venue is mostly standing-room only with a small upper balcony with a few select tables and also a few seats in the back of the first floor. The stage is easy to see from most anywhere you would be standing. Although I am a fairly tall person I noticed that the bar is super high up. If you are short you would definitely have to work to catch someone's attention as the bartenders might not see you! Behind the bar are plaques of different bands that have performed at this venue. I was surprised to see that Billy Joel, Johnny Cash and B.B. King have all graced the stage of the Exit/In. The historical aspect of imagining these artists on stage is definitely cool. I saw a sign that said "Tiki bar" that led to the outside door but when I went outside it was just a smoking patio with a wheelchair accessible ramp. It was disappointing. Was there ever a tiki bar or is that just trickery? Staff: 3/5 My first encounter for staff was at the door. I told the guy that I had bought tickets online so that my name should be on the list. He gave me a stare then said "ID" and then looked up my name on the list and wordlessly handed me my card back as he held up the stamp and waited for me to read his mind and stick out my hand for the stamp. Miserable guy. He gets a 1/5. My second encounter with staff was one of the bartenders who was absolutely delightful. Smiled at me, ran my card right away and thanked me for who knows what but it was still nice. He gets a 5/5. Overall, I'd come back here if a band I really wanted to see was performing. I randomly walked in one night and was told Matt Wertz was playing. Ah! Had to see him, as I've been following him for years now. Love that this is such a well-known music venue, but they mostly feature rising stars. It's small, dark, musky, and is on the Vanderbilt campus, so prepare to wade through a sea of students. Tickets were $25, and there's a $10 minimum at the bar FYI. So it's a slightly pricey place. They need AC! As for the talented Matt Wertz, he killed it. Check him out immediately! read more

The Exit/In is probably my new favorite small venue in town. One, they traditionally start on time. That is huge. HUGE! Especially if you are watching a band on a Tuesday night. It's also smoke-free and the bathrooms are clean. I haven't been in when it's been packed but so far I have had plenty of space to enjoy the show. The stage is high enough that anyone can see, even shorties like me. Also the decor is pretty rad. I love the sign above the bar with all the artists who have graced their stage. So far I have seen Classixx and Run the Jewels (El-P and Killer Mike) at Exit/In. Two different crowds, both an equally pleasing experience. I should also mention that the artists head to the back after their show to sell merch. Both artists were incredibly friendly and posed for photos with their fans. This definitely adds to the charm of Exit/In. Overall it's a solid venue! read more

Exit/In is a great venue! I have attended a variety of shows from a packed out house to a half full performance. It's dark, musty, and a great experience. If hanging on the stage isn't your preference, hit up the balcony upstairs. I can also usually hang toward the back and still maintain my personal space without issue. They have a good selection of beers and spirits and there is a $10.00 minimum to use a card. Well drinks are $5.00 so grab yourself two for the show and you are set. Shows vary in prices but are always affordable. Yeah, parking can be slightly tricky at times, but it has never been impossible for me. A good amount of side street parking and even if you have to walk, it really isn't bad at all. If you are looking for that in between venue for rising and mostly-known bands before they get really big, this is your spot! read more

Went to see Chris Webby, and it was absolutely outstanding. I've seen a few comments about the staff being strict, although that wasn't the case, for me at least. The staff acted chill, and was simply doing their job, they poked to some guys smoking indoor, but didn't even throw them out, even though they repeatedly lit up cigarettes. They even allowed several crowd surfers, even though it's usually not allowed. Amazing place, amazing artists and amazing sound. Nothing bad to say about this place! read more
