JB Shrimp Shack is a small comfortable seafood establishment, in the south part of Brunswick just off I-95 Makaylee our server, was extremely friendly and very helpful when it came to ordering dishes. The daughter ordered and enjoyed 2 shrimp tacos, with a side of black beans and yellow rice. Each Taco had about 3 pieces of blackened shrimp, cabbage, radishes, and a sauce. The wife and I both split a huge Captains Platter that included a hefty portion of fired fish, shrimp, scallops, oysters, and deviled Crab. I wanted the Fried Okra for one side, and the wife wanted home fries for the second side. Everything was fried perfectly and was almost more than we could both eat. I had seen photos of their banana pudding online, and even though I was full, I was not going to pass it up. Considering the amount of food we received, the prices were very reasonable. read more

It was delicious but I ate it so fast that I forgot to get a picture. The only negative is that there is only one bathroom per gender so you will end up waiting a while to use the restroom. Also there is condensation leaking from the ceiling onto your plates. Thank goodness I was done eating by that take. Dont sit under one of those vents. Other than that it was really good. The sauces are extra flavorful and the hush puppies will steal the show. Those little things are classics! Definitely recommend. read more

Great Food, Frustrating Experience. We stopped into Jb's Shrimp Shack while in Brunswick and left with mixed feelings. Let's start with the good -- the food was genuinely excellent. The Captain's Platter was a standout, the shrimp po' boy hit all the right notes, and the shrimp and grits were comforting and well-seasoned. The interior is also charming and cute, the kind of place that feels like a local gem. Our server was warm, knowledgeable, and made great recommendations -- a real bright spot. Unfortunately, the table management left a lot to be desired. We were asked to wait to be called, only to watch two families walk in after us and just seat themselves at newly opened tables -- right in front of the hostesses, neither of whom said a word to us or acknowledged the situation. We were eventually seated in a corner spot tucked behind the entrance. I don't like jumping to conclusions, but this was weird. The food earns five stars. The experience around it brought the overall rating down significantly. Jb's has the ingredients to be a truly great spot -- we just hope the front-of-house hospitality catches up to what's coming out of the kitchen. read more

Not much ambiance, located within sight of I-95 and building looks like it may have once been a Waffle House, but our seafood dishes were GREAT! My fried oysters were cooked perfectly and wife says her shrimp & grits were some of the best she's ever had. Reasonably priced. Well worth the 35 minute drive from our home in Yulee. read more

JB's shrimp shack is a little hole in the wall seafood restaurant. It is quite busy with walk up ordering and takeout. I had the fried oyster poboy which was perfectly cooked and very tasty. I also had the seafood dip with tortilla chips which was also very good. My husband had the fried shrimp basket and he enjoyed that too. Nothing fancy there except for tasty seafood. read more

Absolutely worth a stop. Whoever said the fried okra was the best they've had is 100% right. The cheesy grits were also delicious. Shrimp was very fresh and perfectly cooked. Only comment was that maybe it could've been a bit hotter. Definitely will stop again if I'm driving down 95 read more

This little, non-descript diner along the service road at a refueling exit off I-95, delivers some of the best pescataria without traveling all the way to the coast. Excellent. Lori's shrimp basket was loaded with properly seasoned shrimp, served hot and succulent. And my Oysters Po' Boy was frankly the best I have ever tasted. And I know Po' Boys! Tender, juicy, steamy oysters nestled into a soft bun topped with onions, pickles, tomatoes, and a wonderful aoli dribbled throughout. Mmmmm. Next time your hitting Love's Travel Center, fill up your buggy, go pee, refuse their tumbling hot dogs, and drive across the road. Walked into this super cute & sparkly clean seafood "shack" A lovely woman asked what we wanted and the decision was so hard ! So many delights to choose from! I had blackened Shrimp Po Boy !! Delish fresh and the sauce divine - partner had fried shrimp basket okra and the best hush puppies ever - so happy to find this jewel off I 95 exit 29 !! We never eat at corporate places and this is a perfect example why! The care and love they put into the food is so obvi!! This one is a don't come back....even if they are holding the cat for ransom. I ordered fried shrimp ..which came floured and fried greasy. The other couple order the same shrimp grilled and it was so spicy that he could not eat it... i would have sent it back. He ate a few and left the rest as his mouth was burning. i did taste one...i would have not accepted it....as the menu did not indicate spicy. Note my friends grilled shrimp, because it was visible, had all the Black veins removed. Mine covered in flour was not CLEANED AT All Regardless which one had the flour removed all had the waste veins present. The wife had Deviled crab that was tons of bread crumbs and somewhere in there must have been some crab.....that was $28.95 for bread crumbs..... The coleslaw was freshly made so the cabbage was extremely crunchy and not to my liking as i am a coleslaw maven. The Green beans had all the flavor boiled out. The place was clean but the food sucked and for $75 there are many a good restaurant to choose from. to top it off most restaurants charge a 3 to 3.25% surcharge for credit cards. This one puts on a 4% . Yes I'm being picky. but they are profiting on something most restaurants charge to just cover the credit card cost cost. After hearing about JB's, we stopped in tonite on way home from JAX. Delicious food, perfect portions (small baskets for our seniors' appetites), and prompt service with a smile. We had fried shrimp which was so lightly battered that you could see the pink GA shrimp, 10 or 11 in the basket with delicious "pups" and a side. Second meal was 8 of the plumpest grilled oysters I've ever seen -- so tasty -- with the pups and cheese grits. Add 2 tall iced teas, and our total bill was just $40. Decor was a bit kitschy, but there was plenty to look at, and I was impressed with how fresh and clean everything was! We will def be back! read more

10min outside of Brunswick GA, just off I-95 at US17 is a great new seafood place (since Feb 2024, I think). It's JB's Shrimp Shack, a small-sized casual restaurant and take-out with a clean bright nautical theme and red-checkered tablecloths. They serve very fresh seafood of every kind, with got-to-have daily additions to the menu. This last Friday they had freshly-caught triple-tail, trigger-fish, and grouper. The special was a huge serving of stuffed flounder. They even had frog-legs, which if you don't know, tastes like really juicy tender white-meat chicken. The regular menu included shrimp, scallops, catfish, and deviled crab. You can get nearly all those blackened, grilled, or fried, and some are available in appetizer servings. They have ribeye, burgers, and chicken tenders, too. We got broiled tripletail, which is a firm flakey white-fish that to me tastes sweet like red snapper. Oh my! Perfectly tender and juicy and flavorful! We also got broiled triggerfish, which I rarely see anywhere. It's a lighter white-fish, with sweetness and a bright lightly-lobster-like flavor. Excellent! Sautéed fresh veggies were excellent, baked beans were good, too. We love getting oyster crackers :-). And we got some juicy fresh fried-shrimp to-go, with tasty crispy pillowy hushpuppies and good piping hot fries. Very pleasant, accommodating staff. We couldn't have been happier with the freshness, the perfect cooking, and the flavors. The servings were generous, especially the fish. We paid $17 to $25 a plate. We felt that was a very fair price for this quality. Note: There's a 3% surcharge on credit cards. This is not a frozen-fish restaurant-chain. There are also chicken or fish baskets for $8 to $15. A sign said Kids eat free 4-8pm on Wed, probably from the $8-$9 kids' menu. Another sign said $2 beers on Tue. Open Tue-Sat 11-9, closed Sun-Mon. JB's is easy to see, set back from the south side of the road, in it's own parking lot just east of the gas station. We'll often be one of the happy tables saying Yum with every bite :-) read more

I was immensely disheartened when I opened my Maps app and discovered that Original Jay's was closed - we always stopped there on our way to VA, every year. We stopped at Brunswick for gas and toileting regardless and found this place in the same building as the old Jay's. The fried food was just as good and I wonder if there aren't some of the same kitchen staff in the back of the house. I recommend everything in my photo except the mac 'n' cheese. Wow!!!! Came here for 3rd time and again, food is prepared to perfection!!! Hubby had the most delicious and perfectly fried catfish filets!!! Wish I could make them at home like that!!!! This place is a great find! Especially if you are traveling on 95 and don't like fast food. The seafood is fresh and local, with an emphasis on local shrimp. The ambiance is casual shack with a lot of locals contributing to the authentic flavor. As it was getting close to closing (9pm) , we ordered fried shrimp with fries. They were both hand breaded and deliciously steaming hot. They also had triple tail on the menu. We have ordered that on a previous visit and it is a delicious snapper. We had a great experience here today. The oysters were great. The fried catfish was fried perfectly and came with 2 sides. I had coleslaw and cheesy grits. The grits were great and the coleslaw was ok. My wife hade the seafood dip and loved it. She had the shrimp and grits for her entree and loved it. The atmosphere is very casual and seems like a popular spot. Our server and the other wait staff were attentive and informative of the menu items. Great choice for my 56th birthday. Stopped at this gem while traveling back to Florida. We were immediately greeted with a smile and quickly got sat. Our waitress Eulanda was absolutely amazing!! A Trip to JB Shrimp Shack I'll Never Forget (And Not in a Good Way) Let me start by saying--I never write reviews. But this time? This time was different. This time, my stomach said, "Nah girl, we're speaking up." We stopped by JB Shrimp Shack in Brunswick, Georgia, on our way back home to Florida. I ordered the fried oysters and catfish--nothing too wild. It tasted great at first... but then the real adventure began. Not even an hour down the road, my stomach started playing musical chairs. I was gripping the door handle, whispering affirmations to myself like, "You've made it this far, don't give up now." I barely made it home. Thinking maybe it was just me, we reheated the food and my husband took a bite. Big mistake. Huge. Fast-forward to him sprinting to the bathroom like he was auditioning for the Olympics. The only thing we had in common that day was JB's... and a shared trauma. And as I write this review, I'm not joking--I am currently on the toilet. Day 2. My body is still holding a grudge. I'm no stranger to fried food. I love it. My stomach usually loves it. But this was betrayal dipped in golden batter and deep-fried regret. So JB's--while your food had flavor, it also had aftershocks. I came for seafood, not a full-body cleanse. I hate to do it, but this is a shitty review in every sense of the word. Stopped last night for dinner. My husband and I split the Captain's Platter. It was amazing. We had it fried - Oysters, scallops, shrimp, fish and deviled crab. Everything was so fresh! It was so good it didn't need to be dipped in any sauce. We did have cocktail sauce and tartar- house made. Two types of house made hot sauce on the table as well. Two sides were included and ours were cheesy grits and green beans. Service was friendly and welcoming. Our waitress chatted with us for a bit. The atmosphere rocks if you're looking to eat at a true "Shrimp Shack". Plywood booths and galvanized steel wall panels. This looks to be a converted fast food restaurant, that wants to focus on quality of food and good service with a retro, no frills ambiance. We had stopped for gas on the way to Jekyll Island and saw their parking lot was PACKED! Always a good sign. Once we were seated, Emma proceeded to take great care of us. We had the hush puppy appetizer. I've never had them served with cinnamon butter before, but I can tell you that the combination made for the best hush puppies I've ever had! We split a pound of fried, fresh caught wild georgia shrimp. Nothing can beat fresh shrimp when you're at the coast. The sides were a tasty cole slaw and equally good green beans.
