Decent Size and rustic place on the water, Skippers is exactly what you would a typical fish camp to look like. When we arrived, we were asked if we were OK if the service was a bit slow that night. Since we drove a bit out of the way from Brunswick we were not leaving, but it gave us extra quality family time with the daughter who was visiting. After ordering the wife and daughter went outside to take in the view of the water and look around. Maybe we were just having a great time, or were prepared to wait forever, but once the food came out, we all agreed it wasn't as long as we thought it would be. I ordered the whole fired flounder platter with Oysters,h ush puppies and fried Okra. Everything was perfectly cooked. And as you can see from the pictures I provide the flounder itself was stunning. I also ordered onion rings which were fresh, large and incredible. The Daughter ordered the Founder dinner, and again, just a absolute beautiful cooked piece of fish. The wife order the Grouper Plate, which was probably the least favorite dish of the 3 as she got it blackened, and it was not as well prepared as the other dishes. Skipper's Fish Camp is such a vibe for a laid-back brunch...especially with a group. We went on a triple date and were seated right away, which is always a win. Destiny was our server and she handled everything like a pro, even with a very difficult table next to us. You could tell she was hustling and still kept a great attitude...service definitely stood out. Food-wise, we ordered a little bit of everything: alligator bites, a dozen oysters, and the whole flounder with mac & cheese and collard greens. The alligator bites were easily my favorite--crispy, flavorful, and not chewy at all. The collard greens were also a standout, seasoned just right and full of flavor. The oysters (from Virginia) were fresh and hit the spot. The flounder itself was cooked well, but it could've used a bit more seasoning to really bring it home. Same with the mac & cheese...just a little bland compared to everything else on the table. I also had a prosecco, which paired perfectly with the seafood and kept things feeling light and fun. If I could give zero star, I would. After two hours, our food was still not served. Food was pricey and did not match what was served. Finally got drinks, but hardly any refills that were needed. I asked for silverware four times to no avail. My sister and brother's fish sandwich's looked awful, my stew was good, but sweet potato fries never arrived, sister n law's fried oyster salad was good, but she had to wait ten minutes for salad dressing and utensils to eat with. We will never come back. $20.00 on our meals was was deducted, but I noticed that the waiter did not remove my sweet potato fries (that never arrived)charge!!! They had to redo the darn ticket, so we could get back on the road. Also, it looked like maybe the regulars were getting waited on in a high priority manner. We all left upset and hungry. Depends on the day. Weekends are packed. Food is great. Early in the week you will get disguised leftovers from the weekend. So wait for weekends. Heavy breading on fried seafood. Service can be slow. Smallish rooms, crowded on weekends. If fact you may have to queue up outside to get a seat. Waits can be lengthy on date nights. Lovely area out back for hanging out. Hubby and I planned a day trip up to the Brunswick area. We picked Skipper's Fish Camp for our lunch spot. We arrived and were seated within minutes. The hostess was super sweet! I ordered the fried fish and grits with collard greens as my side. Hubby ordered the fried grouper strips and French fries. Both meals came with hush puppies. I really liked my dish. The fish was flaky and lightly seasoned. The grits with cheese and bacon on top were very tasty. The collard greens had great texture and flavor. Good hush puppies, too. I think this place changes from day to day based on who is working. The setting on the river is great, and so was the service, but the food was not good; everything seems to lack any seasoning except for the collards which were undercooked and seemed to be seasoned only with hot sauce. They were so spicy I could not eat them. We both ordered a shrimp plate which had remnants of other seafoods unintentionally included: two french fries, one calamari, an oyster, a piece of chicken, and two small unidentified fried creatures. My husband enjoys coming here when he is in the area. Our family of four came around 6:30 pm on a Saturday evening and had about a 25 minute wait. The dock area is beautiful and the weather was nice, so we took time to take photos. When we were seated, our server took our drink orders quickly and food came out at a reasonable time. My kids shared a large ribeye steak which they found a little on the fatty side and six grilled shrimp (surf and turf). What a great stop on our way to southern Florida -- literally minutes off of 95 and right on the water. They have seafood and bbq so take your pick, along with a decent selection of beers on tap Hubs and I opted for the grouper sandwich (if you come on the weekend make sure you ask as it's not on the menu). It really bothers me that this restaurant charges 4% extra if you pay with a credit card. That's just rude. Food is good but I am a business owner and the fee is 1.8 to 3.5 % and in am case I've never charged a person who is patronizing my business the fee... it's the cost of going business. I find this practice just petty and rude! Raise your prices if you can't afford to pay this yourself. Yes the food is good and service is good. Wow! It was a 45 minute wait on a Friday night but it was so worth it!!! I had the 1/2 and 1/2 and got fried shrimp and oysters. They were so fresh and tasty. I tried the hush puppies and they were not too heavy. The cheese grits were my first side and they were good but the server recommended the sweet potato soufflé and WOW! I was planning one bite because I was getting pretty full but after that bite, I could not stop because I was trying to figure out how they were made. The had a stronger cinnamon flavor and they were extremely light and fluffy. I have never had sweet potato soufflé like that. They were so good and not overtly sweet. The staff and servers were super friendly and the wait went by fast because you can go outside and walk around the boats. The parking lot was full but I was able to find a spot. Last Sunday April 12th - drove the hour trip from Bryan County with family and were very disappointed Service was poor, other tables were getting their dinners while we sat - (they entered same time as us) things came at scattered times! This restaurant can get packed, and they don't take reservations. Today we started with a half dozen raw oysters and Mother Nature delivered. Disappointingly, the baked Key Lime Garlic Parmesan oysters were overly sweetened by the Key Lime sauce used. Awful and not a reorder. Today they were out of flounder and crab. The appetizer Grouper basket hit the spot and was fried crispy tender. The fried oysters were the clear winner of Hubs combo platter while the fried shrimp a big disappointment. Two sides accompany the combo platters. Their slaw dressing is mayonnaise based and the slaw is heavily dressed. The seasoned fries were good and hot. We came across Skipper's from a billboard sign on the interstate. We were seated quickly, and the alligator was edible. The rest was terrible. My daughters oyster were not completely fried. Neither were my son's fish sticks. My other daughter's ribs looked like the were from a microwave. My baked potato was obivously cooked and assembled the day before we came, at aleast. The pork and cheese were so old that they molded together into one solid piece. The potato itself was cold and had no flavor. The potato salad was chunks of barely cooked potatoes and very liquidy mustard/mayo mix. The entire meal seemed simialr to something you could recieve at a fast food place without the quickness. The waitress barely engaged with us and another gave the wrong tea to our table and the table next to our's. It was a cute place, though. The inside had a good theme going for it. We arrived at 5:30 on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was packed with families, couples and large parties of friends. To our surprise we only needed to wait for 10 minutes for our group of 3. Our server was very efficient and our food came out quickly. I ordered a bowl of Brunswick soup which was brimming with hearty vegetables in a savory tomato base and tender chicken and pork. Delicious and super filling! I also ordered the lump blue crab cake which a hit. The kids had mozzarella sticks, fried pickles and chicken fingers which were tasted too.
