Nicholas came out to my place within an hour, determined the problem, left to get the part needed and 30 minutes later my AC was up and running. I cannot name specific compnies but I can tell you there is no way the response or repair cost would have been anywhere near the response time or price Nicholas charged me. There is no doubt in my mind some of the other companies, we all see advertised, would have charged me at least $1500.00 to repair my AC. Nicholas charged me well below what I expected. If you have an HVAC or plumbing problem, I strongly endorse Nicholas and Jackson Mechanical to resolve your problem quickly and to your satisfaction. When she declined, they suddenly "found" the part and quoted $1,800, then took a deposit. A quick search showed the OEM part is widely available for around $150, and the job typically takes 1-2 hours. Charging $1,800 for that kind of work is hard to justify. To their credit, when I called and requested a refund of the deposit, they returned it without issue (hence the 2 stars). That said, the initial sales approach was misleading and predatory. For context, another company has since quoted $460 for the same repair.

Installation was flawless, but the price was exorbitant at $8300. $6-6500 would have been a fair price for a $3400 heater marked up 1.5X and a 6-8 hours of labor at more than $200/hr labor. Met with owner and he justified the price mostly due to "knowing his costs", generous salaries for his employees, enormous overhead, advertising and a "small profit margin" Lesson learned. When the technician goes into upsell mode and tells you they are offering a competitive price, don't believe them. Get three quotes. Also, they remove any negative reviews and want you to not post anything detrimental on social media.

The woman on the phone assured us that they do. The first thing the hvac gentlemen said is "we don't really work on these oil heaters". When i said to him that we specifically asked the woman about it he told us "she's just dispatch". We were told that the soot needed to be cleaned(over $2700), they may need to remove the wall to do it which would cost more, and they don't replace the wall if they take it down. Then after all of that, they would be able to diagnose what is actually wrong with the heater, if its something more than a cleaning. If you live in Levittown, don't walk...run! You might as well throw your $150 in a hole and call someone else. Benjamin Franklin came out and hour later and fixed it for $417.

Shortly after posting I was contacted by the management and they took full accountability for what transpired. They explained the challenges they had with the job and offered to come back and do the necessary repairs at their expense. It has been a few days since the repair and I am happy to report that everything now seems to be working fine. I greatly appreciate the way this was handled by Service First- they made it right and there's not much more a customer can ask for. I am now very satisfied and feel confident that I can contact Service First if there are any additional issues.

While it looks "neat" it is a heating/cooling nightmare! Got bids from five top-notch entities, but after carefull consideration, Scott Kelley (of Burkee) came in with the best "package." Two days later Kyle and Devon's meticulous installation had us --- Up and (gratefully) running! And now things are "comfortable again" -- even the second floor! Kudos to Burkee Climate Control!!

They have been reliable and honest. They have been to my house on multiple occasions and they have told me either how to fix a problem myself or the best and most cost effective way to do so. I recently found out that it is time to replace the entire unit. As this was something that was unexpected as well as not budgeted I became a little nervous. Burkee came out, educated me about the options and NEVER tried to upsell me on a unit that I did not need. As a matter of fact I am spending less that I anticipated! I highly recommend Burkee for all of your hvac needs!!!

As I mentioned in my original post, this was my fault too since they did provide price up front. Will I choose them to do my job next time? Maybe. However I would definitely do some research first if time permits. The new heater is really quiet and I am happy about that. Another point I want to raise is that the plumber did a good job on installation but not the clean-up part. My wife and I spent almost an hour to clean up staircase and basement last night and we also found out there was some new dents on stairs. Darin arrived promptly, was respectful, courteous and efficient in evaluating the renovation needs, explaining Longacre's history their renovation process. I was especially impressed that their stated work model is that the contractors arrive and remain on the job day after day until the job is complete. They don't juggle their contractors between jobs such that customers encounter long delays because the contractors aren't showing up because they are working at another house/job. This is a horrible way to treat customers but to maximize profit is the direction many home remodeling companies are headed. No thank you! Been there done that a few times and it was a terrible experience. After a few weeks of back and forth with Darin picking out tile, cabinet colors, shower door models, etc. I was ready to move forward. By the way, the reason the above took weeks was my fault due to work travel and a sick parent. Darin was attentive and responsive. Darin provided the final estimate which included us purchasing certain items instead of Longacre (this was our preference). I would purchase all the tile, the mirror, and the fixtures, we would also pay upfront for the custom cabinetry. When I received the final estimate, I was provided Longacre's payment terms. 40% of the cost upfront. 40% paid the day they arrived to start the job. What?!?!? You expect me to pay 80% of the bill before you even start working? On top of the 80%, I also would have put out thousands for the materials (my choice). The estimate with me supplying the materials was about $38,000. No utilities moved. No reconfiguring the space. Pretty much a facelift. New solid surface show pan, tile, new shower doors, new vanity, upgraded fixtures, upgraded lighting and paint. I would be out $30,000 in payments up front to Longacre and would have to deal with a demolished bathroom if Longacre failed to return or I would have no leverage at all to persuade Longacre to show up or fix unacceptable quality issues if they already have so much money up front? I explained to Darin my concern that Longacre is asking customers to accept a significant risk and that in the past, I've more commonly had contracts that requested a smallish payment as a deposit to lock in the contract, then typically 1/3 at the end of the first day, 1/3 at a pre-defined milestone that is about 65% of the job done and the final 1/3 at the end. This has flexed somewhat based on the size of jobs, for example, we added a 1000 sq ft. addition and that was eight payments at strategic milestones. I've totally remodeled four homes inside and out on the Main Line including large additions, and have NEVER been asked for 80% of the bill before a single thing is done. To me, that is a company that wants to make sure customers have no leverage over them which leads me to question their integrity. Darin assured me that Longacre has decades of good customer experience and is a company with integrity but would talk to the new owner named Hardy to see if there is an opportunity to modify the payment terms. Hardy refused to budge on the 80% up front payment. I thanked Darin for all his efforts (he was nice to work with) but also told him that since Longacre, which had been a family-owned and run company until the past year, is now under new ownership (sold off by the Longacre family), Longacre's legacy and history is now moot. This is Hardy's business, not Longacre's. It is unfortunate that we could not make this work. Never do business with a company that expects you to pay most of the bill before they do any work.
