I ordered a Cannondale Adventure 1 online and had it delivered to JB's Bike Shop. They got the bike put together in 1-day (although the notice I received said it would take 1-2 weeks). I received immediate service when I went inside the store and the attendant adjusted the seat, kick-stand, and handlebars exactly where I needed them. Stopped in today for advice on a tire/wheel problem for a donated bike from a neighbor for my daughter. The proprietor was busy with a customer, but took a moment to greet me and ask what I was in for. When I showed him the issue he quickly told me how I could resolve the issue myself (took me less than a minute to resolve as he advised). Beautiful inventory of bikes of all descriptions. Based on my initial visit, I'll be shopping here for my next hybrid or mountain bike because I feel I can trust their opinion and advice. read more

I walked in with fat-tire rear rim in need of a rear hub replacement and lace job would be at least 2-3 hundred dollar job why would you ask? Because this cat JB turned me away as if bothered it wasn't a high end bike rim. Walked in maybe 2 customers were in there. I waited patiently for 10min then I was next. I presented my request for rear hub replacement and new spokes. Came off like I'm too good to touch that or look at it, as if it's below me type attitude our encounter was less than 5min that's being turned away and walking out the door. Non the less I went elsewhere and got it done $300.00 and laced and what they call tru (balance) which took 2 months worth the wait. I get all kinds of complements and nods when im out riding I'm sure to tell all my encounters not to go to JB. If your in the business to sell bicycles I guess working on them is not his thing. read more

Not sure where the 1-star rating comes from either. Great bike shop. Mtb, road, cross, fat tire, kids bikes, the works. JB, the owner, is usually the one in the shop and he is very friendly, knowledgeable, and is willing to help you find the right part or accessory. I've been in the shop before and bought two bikes there, but this week I had a frozen chain link and of course I'm leaving for a bike trip soon. JB fixed it on the spot. Of course he can't have every part on hand at all times, but that has never been an issue (no bike shop can or the cash tied up in inventory sinks them against the online market). In fact I've ordered parts through him and sometimes they are cheaper installed than ordering it online with free shipping. Bottom line: Great shop. read more

They had zero interest in repairing my old bicycle. In fact, they told me it could not be repaired (it needed a new freewheel) and to junk it. LeBo's Pedal Parlor had a suitable freewheel in stock and had me on the road again for a total of $70. My only other visit never actually occurred as the door was locked during business hours. read more

***WARNING*** Unless you are buying a bike from these guys they won't even look you in the eye and give you the time of day. I just left their shop after bringing in my Santa Cruz 5010. I told them I had a stock headset on my bike and wanted to upgrade. I understand they don't carry these parts in the shop as most don't; however, when I said I'd pay for them to take a look at my current headset as it was creaking a bit the guy wouldn't even get off the computer to have a conversation with me about it. He said no I'm not looking at it. Are you serious!? You're a bike shop! Do you want to make money?! Well guess what, now I'll order all my parts from another store and take my bike to Spokes, a shop who actually takes the time to look at bikes. I'll also be telling all my bike friends the same. This is my favorite bike store in the area, and possibly anywhere. While it's called a mountain bike store, they definitely have plenty of road products as well. JB helped me with some fit issues on a bike I didn't even buy there for no charge, which is unheard of in this day and age.. The service/personal touch here is outstanding. While other stores might have a larger selection of accessories or more "traditional" bicycle brands, you can't beat this place. The best bike shop in the area. Impeccable service, repairs are done with both proficiency and timeliness. Everyone there is extremely helpful and willing to answer any questions. If they don't have what you want in stock they are more than happy to order it for you. Excellent bike selection, but also able to order in anything else easily. What a great bike shop. Definitely leans more towards Mountain Bikes, as one might guess from the name - *but* they do have road bikes and gear as well, so don't let the name keep you away if you're a road rider. Highly recommended. read more

I don't know where the one star rating came from below. Clearly I've had the opposite experience. And I have reviewed other bike shops that don't help women (luckily it didn't happen in Reading). I didn't buy a bike here & have had nothing but good experiences here. The first time I was in there was, what seemed to be, a bunch of neighborhood kids hanging around which was annoying only because the space is small. They were helpful to me being new to the area and recommended a few trails for me to check out. Got about $70 worth of accessories and I was on my way. Bike guys can be kind of aloof so I wished he was a bit more excited about getting someone into the hobby (sport?) but he was very helpful nonetheless. I went back a second time and they helped me with my saddle at no cost. I will definitely be returning for more service. Five stars for sure. PS- There is street parking but also a lot in the back! I found that out my second time there after he fixed my saddle. read more

Walked in JBs today (first time ever) looking to get back into mountain biking after being away from it for a few years. Within seconds I was being helped and all my questions were being answered. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful not to mention patient as I had a ton of questions. After 15-20 minutes or so they got me set up with a bike that was perfect for my needs . I'll back up Daryll H.'s review. I just moved into the area and spent some time checking out all the different shops in the Reading vicinity. I liked this one the best. I brought my road bike here for a tune up and they did an excellent job. I definitely noticed the difference on the fist ride. And like the other reviewer, the owner also helped me out with my fit. As far as the focus of the store, it is a little more mountain bike, but still plenty of road stuff as well. I'd say it's a 60:40 mix of mountain to road (plus some hybrid bikes). Also, the prices seemed very competitive and the owner is a really nice guy. I felt good giving him my business. read more

JB Mountain Bikes is an amazing shop. I am a fairly new rider, but I shopped around and decided to go with this nice shop. The owner really cares about his customers. I recently had some strange things going on and JB had me bring it back a few times, finally, he asked if we could just go out one day and ride so he could really see what's going on.. Very extensive inventory to select from, along with many more options which can be ordered and available for pickup within a few days. They took the time to set the bike up specifically to my needs and explained all of the features in detail.
