When I began orthodontic treatment, I had a severe overbite. I couldn't fully close my mouth, and my bottom teeth were actually wearing down my top teeth. Before agreeing to treatment, I made it very clear that I travel for work and would not be able to come in every month. I was told that this would simply extend my treatment time, but the total cost would remain a little over $2,000. I agreed and enrolled in a payment plan, making my payments whether I could attend appointments or not. There were times when I could only come in once every three months because of work. The treatment plan that was explained to me included braces on my upper teeth for approximately 16 visits and braces on my lower teeth for around 6 visits (I don't remember the exact numbers, but that was the general plan). However, when I made my final payment, Dr. Salas unexpectedly told me I was ready to have my braces removed. I was confused and asked, "What about my bottom braces?" His response was that I didn't need them anymore. At the time, I didn't question it much because I was honestly tired of wearing braces. Looking back, though, I feel like I paid for a treatment plan that I never fully received. My overbite is still present, and I can't help but feel that I paid the full price without receiving the complete treatment that was originally discussed. To make matters worse, after treatment I asked about the teeth whitening I had been told I would receive. Instead of honoring what I understood had been promised, I was told I would have to pay over $100 for it. That only reinforced my feeling that every opportunity was another attempt to charge me more. Dr. Salas was always kind and professional, which is why this experience has been so disappointing. I trusted him and the practice for years, but I left feeling like my concerns were overlooked and that I didn't receive the complete orthodontic treatment I expected after paying in full. Based on my experience, I can no longer recommend City Smiles Dental & Orthodontics or Portal Family Dentistry & Orthodontics. I hope they take concerns like mine seriously and improve their communication about treatment plans so future patients don't leave feeling the way I did.

The hygienist was very thorough, they cleaned her teeth and polish them. Even I, being her daughter, saw a difference between her teeth before the appointment and after the appointment. I am very impressed with the hygienist at this location. After getting her teeth cleaned, the dentist closed her fillings. My mom was very pleased with the work. She was so thankful that this office was not trying to sell her on things that she did not need to get done. While they did mention her need for a crown, they did not sell her on any ancillary charges or bogus treatments for her teeth. My mom hates going to the dentist. And she doesn't like the dental field because she feels that they're very pushy and the make up charges or work without very much proof. Would definitely NOT recommend coming here for any kind of surgery. When i asked to be refunded my money, the office asked me to sign an Release and Indemnity agreement so that i couldn't sue them in the future(smart on their part i guess), just to get my money back to fix all the damages this doctor caused. I would proceed at your own risk, and i will be reporting him and this office to the Texas Board of Dental Examiners. I was very nervous about the treatment, but his assistant, Veronica made me feel comfortable and reassured. My general dentist and Drs. Sordellis communicated well about my treatment plan in advance and answered all my questions patiently. The procedure itself was quick and I experienced minimal pain/discomfort, exactly as they promised. His anesthesia skill was the most amazing as ever and I never felt pain during the treatment as well as the anesthesia itself. He also did crown lengthening on my tooth that had severe decays below the gum line and the tooth is still in good condition after 7 years without extraction. I truly appreciate his amazing skills. The office is very nice and well-organized, and my appointment started on time. All the staff is very welcoming and professional. When I scheduled, I clearly stated that we only wanted regular cleanings and was told that could be done at our 8 a.m. appointment, with instructions to arrive at 7:45. We arrived early and waited until 8 a.m. before anyone greeted us. The visit started off well the hygienist took x-rays, blood pressure, and saliva tests, which made it seem like they genuinely cared about our health. Unfortunately, things went downhill quickly. After nearly an hour, we still hadn't received a cleaning. Instead, the dentist told me I needed a deep cleaning and crowns. I explained that I'd review those options later but just wanted the standard cleaning I came for, especially since my previous dentist said crowns might be needed eventually but not anytime soon. The office manager, Andrew, then came in to review treatment plans and coverage, but the conversation felt more like a sales pitch. Despite me repeating that I only wanted a basic cleaning, he continued to push the deep cleaning and crowns, ending with, "Okay, we'll just need a signature." At that point, it felt dishonest and pushy. We left without getting a cleaning and won't be returning. Patients should be told upfront if the first appointment is only a consultation and not an actual cleaning and be allowed to decide for themselves if they want additional procedures. Recommendations should remain just that -- suggestions.
