Home Depot pickup is much faster and mor organized - pickup desk next to front door , items held near the pickup desk , 2 or 3 employees on duty , no restock chargers unless maybe for special orders .

To say the least, one persons trash was certainly my treasure! I brought it straight to A Lamp & Fixture. The store is marvelous, and packed full of beautiful, vintage light fixtures. In fact, the guy I worked with mentioned that's what they're most known for. He was kind enough to take a look at the lamp I brought in and was professional and nice the entire time. He was able to get it all up and running and advised me on what lightbulbs to get for it. He only had to replace a couple of plastic parts, and only charged me $10! I was worried the whole thing would need to be re-wired, but I got really lucky and it just happened to work. Highly recommend if you have any light fixtures or questions about them, you stop by A Lamp & Fixture. I'm confident the experts here would be able to help or advise on anything related to lighting!

In need of a new kitchen faucet when my old one went kaput. As this business was located nearby and…read morethe view from the street suggested a good selection, my wife and I opted to purchase a faucet from this store. That was a mistake. They have to order most of the merchandise on display so if you need something quickly, your choices are much more limited. We did find a faucet we liked that they had in stock, but the one they did have was an open box. We took it anyway and I believe we (foolishly) still paid near full price. The next day when our plumber came, he said the faucet was missing an important piece. I had to drive back to the store to see if they had a replacement. They did not so I selected a different faucet that I did not like as much but it was cheaper and good enough. They (said) they would issue a refund for the difference ($180) and took my card number. They had no real explanation as to why the part was missing and told me "You'd be surprised how often this happens. People return things without a part.". Really? And apparently neither of the two people that work in this store and don't seem to be overwhelmed with customers (I was the only person in the store both times) could be bothered to check returned merchandise to make sure it was complete before selling it again. I probably would have just let this go but then after checking my account for the refund, I discovered none had been issued. I called the shop and they texted me a copy of the refund receipt they said they issued. I said it had not been received in my account to which they had nothing to say. The implication was that it was my problem. I am now working with my bank to get my account credited, something I should not have to do. They ignored my subsequent text indicating I still had not received the refund, leaving me no choice. As best I can tell, they never did follow up to see why it had not gone through. These two guys seem like total slackers - bored to be in their store and it shows. They provide half-baked service and express little concern for customers. Everything is just sort of "Oh well.". Avoid this place - since their prices aren't better than Amazon, plan ahead and order online or go to the Consumer supply store across the street where they may actually give a damn about their work and act professionally.

I heard of this store months ago, when I was looking up plant shops to visit. I've driven by a few times because it's only about a mile away from me. Finally, when I saw that Charlene H.'s review, I first added her as a friend and then decided I needed to get to H+T sometime soon. Serendipity would lead to me to be just a couple blocks from the shop today so I decided I should stop in. That was a mistake, because I spent a lot more money than I had intended to spend. This store is at its core a home decor store, so it's not specifically a plant shop. But they DO have an extensive collection of plants, both indoor houseplants and outdoor plants. They have starters and they have seeds as well. Of course they have just about everything you need to care for your plants too: pots, gloves, potting soil, pruning shears, and so on. They have a really nice collection of pots, by the way; in addition to some of the ones I've seen at just about every plant shop, I got a couple others that I haven't seen elsewhere and are quite beautiful. Their prices are not out of line with other plant shops in the area. But I didn't stop there, because they have a seriously beautiful collection of items to decorate your home. I restrained myself to some extent but I could have gotten a lot more. I bought a photo frame, a basket for the new ZZ plant I purchased, a raven ZZ, and the two pots. They have really beautiful picture frames here so now I need to identify photos that I want prints of so I can buy more frames. (Can we bring back film photography, please?) Clever and cute idea to put photos of Lizzo in all of the frames, I dig it. I really like my plant basket too, so I may need to buy more of them. They had some really nice side tables that I would probably use as plant stands since some of them are small... or if I had more fancy furniture in my home too, I suppose. This is a store that I would love to buy things from because they'd make my home look sophisticated. The staff were really friendly, welcoming, and happy to help me. They charged me twice for one of the pots, but I realized that before leaving and they fixed it straightaway. Then when I realized I had bought a 5x7 frame instead of a 4x6 frame, the return was easy. But they do have a more conservative return policy than a mass merchandiser would, so be sure that you understand the return policy before you purchase.

Okay. This is not a business everyone is going to need. But if you own an old house (and I do)- and…read moreyou are trying to restore the original hardware and metal fixtures, then Al Bar-Wilmette Platers is going to be a godsend. They do it all. They can restore old light fixtures, re-plate locks and door hardware so that the finish looks as good as the day your old house was built. They can even take new hardware and re- plate it to look like the original fixtures in your house. They also have salvage hardware to help you match those impossible things like switch plate covers, and have one of the largest collections of door hardware (including decorative knobs) that I have seen. Case in point. I have a butler's door on a pivot (you know the ones- they swing between the kitchen and the dining room or between the butlers pantry and the kitchen) The brass plates on the pivot mechanism had been painted over so many times over the past 80 years that I thought they were lost. I scoured antique stores and artifact resale shops, went to house tear downs, everything to try to find new brass plates for this mechanism. Just when I had given up- someone suggested Al Bar Wilmette Platers. I removed the plates from the door and took a road trip up to Wilmette. I also took some old doorknobs whose finish had failed as well as a kick plate for another door. I didn't hold out much hope and my back up plan was just to paint them black to blend in with the wood stain. They took them from me and told me to return in a couple of weeks. When I went back- they unwrapped the plates from their brown paper wrap and I was amazed. All the newly plated metal gleamed like it was new- I could see myself in them they were so shiny and bright! And once re-installed- they frame the door just like they did when the house was new! So before you decide to give up on something in your old house that needs to be re-plated- head up to Al Bar. The craftsmanship is second to none and if you're like me- you'll leave your old house just a little better than you found it!

I found a Talitha console cabinet that was perfect for an entryway in a home. I didn't like the silver accents, and asked if there was a gold alternative. The manager helped me figure out how we can get the accents in gold and shipped promptly... successfully. There was a second cabinet I loved by the Delphine collection, but was unable to get the finishes of the cabinet in a gold accent. Would recommend Adler for service and style ideas!
