During the visit, I asked for a written quote and contract so I could review the proposed work before making a decision. The project was estimated somewhere between $4,500 and $13,500, so I don't think that's an unreasonable request. What bothered me most was that I asked three separate times for something in writing, and three times I was told no. I was told that I would not receive a written quote or contract unless I was ready to sign. Michael repeatedly talked about how busy he was, how much work he closes, and how he manages over $2 million a year in contracts. The whole conversation came across as arrogant and dismissive, as if providing a quote for review was beneath him. I've hired many contractors over the years, and I've never had someone refuse to provide a written proposal before asking for a signature. For a project worth thousands of dollars, I expect to be able to review the scope of work, pricing, and terms before committing. After the meeting, I spoke with two neighbors who had used SavATree. Both had dealt with the same person and confirmed a similar experience. They also told me they were unhappy with the work and would never use SavATree again because of damage done to their properties. In the end, I walked away. Any company that refuses to provide a written quote and contract for review before asking for a signature is not a company I can trust. Fortunately, I saw the warning signs early enough to avoid making an expensive mistake.
