This is the best JC Penney location in San Diego County. The store is bright and clean. The displays well maintained and designed for the eye. Ample supply of merchandise are available with outrageous deals in the clearance section. Customer service is excellent with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Parking is ample and available. We are coming to this location from now on. I hope that they remain open despite the uncertainty of the economy. read more

A bit of a ghost town but daughters found winter gloves and fluffy socks she'd been looking for, it's spring lol. And they were 75% off. So yay. I found wild gold satin cargo pants for 75% off. Double yay! So it may be difficult to find a worker but the two workers we did see were hard at work nonstop AND friendly as well. The lady putting clothes back from dressing room was super nice and knowledgeable and helped us find what we were looking for and the check out lady was so nice too. Other than that, no workers to be found on the bottom floor and they were it on the top. We looked lol. So 5 stars for the two workers and 4 stars to the loads of clearance area but 1 star for the long time it took to find anyone. The lady at the front counter was rude and most likely racist she chastised my friends and I for running in the store when I was simply moving quickly. To add insult to injury, she threatened us with bodily harm if we didn't leave the store immediately. I wanted to compare the prices and the quality of bed mattresses at this J. C. Penney's Department Store versus another Mattress Store. After I had paid for my Timex Leather Strap Watch on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 7 p. m. I asked Tracey the JC Penney sales associate; can she tell me where their Mattresses are located at and are there any Sales going on now during this Memorial Day Weekend? Tracey their sales associate told me yes Frances and to speak to Annette who is their Bedding Department Manager and the Bed Department is located on the first floor level at the Westfield Shopping Mall. I thanked Tracey then I walked over to the escalator and I went over to the first floor level to speak to Annette. Annette was very friendly to me regarding I asked her what Mattresses with the Bed Frames were on Sale during the Memorial Day Weekend? Annette showed me the different brands of their Mattresses they currently have available in their department store now. There was not that many choices for me to choose from. Their Brands were Simmons, Sealy Posture Pedic Memory Foam Mattress, and Serta Mattress. The Comfort Levels are: Soft, Medium, Plush, Plush and Firm and Firm. I thought their prices that were on Sale during their Memorial Day Weekend were very affordable. Then Annette told me to choose 3 different Mattresses in their comfort level. I selected the Medium Comfort Level and the brand Sealy Posture Pedic Memory Foam Mattress. I was surprised at the discounted prices on this Sealy Posture Pedic Memory Foam Mattress Price was only $700.00. Annette told me if I sign up for their J C Penney Credit Card then I will receive a 30 percent Discounted Price on the total cost of the Brand Name Mattress that I have chosen. I asked Annette to give me the total cost if I decide to purchase a Mattress with a bed frame called Sealy Posture Pedic with memory foam. Annette said my total cost will be including the tax is $700.00. The comfort level is Medium. Annette told me, if she orders this Mattress with the bed frame that goes underneath the mattress, the total cost will be $700.00. But Annette said to me that if she does place an order for me from their warehouse in San Diego, CA then the Mattress with the Box Frame is going to take at least (2 weeks or 4 weeks) about one month later before I will be able to have the Sealy Posture Pedic Memory Foam Mattress shipped out to my home address. Annette also told me that Ryan is their top Bedding sales person and I should wait until the next day on Thursday, May 25 when Ryan will be working from 6 p. m. I told Annette I will keep in touch with her. I thought about the Mattress Price was really a great price at only $700.00 but it was NOT the exact same model or the same brand name that Chris from Mission Marketplace, Mattress Firm Store. Terrible customer service and rude employee. After waiting over 15 minutes for curbside delivery, I went inside to ask for my package. When the employee came up, I said I had been waiting for over 15 minutes and was told by her that she was a minimum wage employee and tired of getting unhappy customers when it wasn't her fault. She was rude and could not find my package and I discovered she didn't even know what she was looking for, but made me wait another 10 minutes while she hid in the back until another employee was able to come. I was just in the perfume section of the store with my family and we were in line to ask for a price check for a Mercedes cologne and the cashier asked for assistance from a manager, when a lady with a white shirt I believe her name tag said Rachel (I'm not 100 percent sure) walked up to help the lady at the register with a horrible horrible attitude towards her. Needed a very good EYE Glasses doctor that did NOT demand a mask because My last Kaiser Permanente (of 50 years BTW)test was a desaster. A mask FOGS UP the testing lens. My results were terrible. DR. TRAN AND HER ASSISTANT SABRINA were like a breath of fresh air - literally... They were professional yet very friendly - something Kauser has forgotten these last 3 years - with empty facilities and acting like they are full. I shopped the store when fonished and FOUND FANTASTIC deals too. Very well managed - nice friendly and prompt check out gal too! I can no longer give this salon a good rating. Personnel changed and their pricing is not monitored. The salon looks like a ghost town with nothing to attract customers. From my last visit of 7 weeks ago, the price increased by 30 percent with nothing different except for a stylist who just is money hungry, and not interested in long term, valued customers. She even told me that if I do not return for a root touch up in 8 weeks, she would charge me for a full hair color. Tried returning a pair of pants was declined because the tags were not on the pants but were on hand I understand policy but I'm not reading fine print when purchasing Levi's as suggested by the Store Management. I like to come to JCPenney because they have great clothing and apparel at a good value. I bought some swimming shorts and sunglasses at a good value because there was a sale going on. When I was trying to buy my sunglasses, there was no price tag on it. I went to go check it out with the cashier and he said that it was $34. I asked if it was on sale because everything else I had purchased everything else on sale. He said that the sunglasses were not on sale. We came back later and there was another cashier that was able to find the sunglasses and the sale price. The price ended up being around $16. I have purchased two rings through Jcpenny's jewelry department along with their lifetime warranties. I have brought in one of the rings twice for it be redipped as it was gold plated and turned silver over time. The first time I brought it in, there were no issues. The second time I brought it into the store for the same reason, I have had nothing but a negative experience. When I brought the ring in, the manager told me that I did not have the lifetime warranty and turned away my request for service. I told her how I was sure I had the lifetime warranty as I had already brought it in for servicing. Thank god I still had a picture of the receipt from when I originally bought it, because after I showed her this she magically was able to find it on my account. My ring was shipped and she told me the ring would be ready for pick up mid-July and they would give me a call to let me know. Mid August comes around and I still have not heard back, which leads me to call multiple times just to get ahold of someone to speak to, just for them to tell me it has been sitthere for weeks. I finally go to the store to pick the ring up and the same manager, who assisted me the first time, is there to tell me they were unable to fix my ring. I explained to her that I had purchased this under the lifetime warranty and didn't understand why they could not redip the ring, as this is something they had already done and there was not any other damage to the ring. She told me that they are unable to redip the ring because that would cost them more than what the ring was worth. What is the point of purchasing a lifetime warranty if they refuse to fix it after having the ring for only 2 years??? I expressed my frustration and disappointment to her and not once did I hear an apology or understanding. She told me she could give me store credit for the amount of the ring - but not my money back for the lifetime warranty - or I could take the ring with no money back. This ring is extremely sentimental to me and she told me I wouldn't even be able to keep the ring if I took the option of store credit. We called the insurance company directly and they are having this redipped and shipped directly to me and explained this is absolutely something that is covered under my warranty. The way this situation was handed by the store manager was infuriating and highly disappointing. She was rude, unhelpful, and clearly needs to work on her customer service. I plan to look elsewhere for jewelry as this experience turned me off from ever wanting to buy something here again. read more

Yes, I'm well aware that this place is outdated. Yes, I know it needs a facelift. Yes, JC Penney is just a weaker version of Macy's, but I like some of their home deals so I've had things delivered to this store so I won't have to pay for shipping for the stuff I ordered online. I love the store but not the Sephora. The employees have not been properly trained in makeup. I can also tell continuing education in makeup for all skin types and races is not enforced. The sales associates are unprofessional and are not held accountable for their lack of education.  I had an employee lie to my face and claim she was the manager. I followed up with a different location and was provided the true names of the managers and contact information for them. When you know you are wrong, you are wrong. I had already told her I intended to take my issue higher. I would recommend driving to the Escondido JCP or going to Sephora on the other side of the mall. read more

I bought a ring on Wednesday March 23 at Fashion Valley Center JCPenney store. When I wanted to return it back in Carlsbad the associate Shoku didn't want to refund it and said they don't do it. She called the supervisor Brian who wasn't helping me. Shoku made up a story about me buying rings at other places and returning back in Carlsbad JCPenney. It's a total lie. I spoke today on 3/24/2016 with the store manager Frank who was very unpleasant and asked me a million of questions. Eventually I got back the money. I'm very surprised to see how expensive the clothing is here versus Macy's and you would think that Macy's is more expensive. I shop at Macy's a lot and yes they do have a lot of sales and yes overall Macy's is probably more expensive. With all the sales and discounts at Macy's why even bother with Pennies. Yes Pennies does have some decent prices but they don't have the brands like Macy's that you can get for a great price. No, don't get me wrong, I have been to the mall and JC Penney's since then, but I was just walking through with no hustle and bustle around me I was able to really check out the place. The customer service was great when I went in this day. But, then again they are pushing to do surveys so I am pretty sure that is why they are sugaring up a bit more at the register, but hey, ya gotta do what ya gotta do to get good reviews, I get it. As far as Penney's stores goes this is really a *great* store. I have shopped in Penney's stores in three states, some are larger that this one, some smaller. What makes this store different are its people. The service we receive each time we shop here is outstanding, not just in one department, but everywhere we go. Whomever runs this store knows how to select and train people and keep them engaged. I am in Carlsbad twice a year. First, the store is a mess. After navigating the heap of crap in the clearance racks I came out with a pair of nice dress pants priced at like $27.99 and a pair of shorts priced $7.50 or so. I tried on everything, my wife and I agreed they both looked good and decided to purchase them. Then the trouble started. The fat girl behind the counter with 3 inch press on nails(disgusting) tells us the prices don't match and makes us wait 5 minutes for a manager. The manager finally shows up after taking her sweet time and does everything short of accusing us of changing the prices, tells the girl to honor the price in the $7 shorts but tries to charge an additional $15 more than the sticker price on the pants This store needs to get their stuff together, and shouldn't have clothes on the clearance rack with great markdown prices if they're NOT GOING TO HONOR THEM ! I will not be back again, neither will my wife or anyone else that we know if I have any say in the matter. Totally unprofessional, non existent customer service from this location and the so called "manager." The price should have been honored and you should've checked the others on the rack after ringing us out. Now you lost a customer for life and I'm going to take my money somewhere else that values their customers and actually want to conduct business in a professional matter. I went in today because my son's grandparents gave him a beautiful watch. My son wanted to exchange it. He got one he liked. Santino welcomed us with a great smile and was really helpful on giving us knowledge about the different kind of watches, and what they can do. Mateo helped us check out and was as great as Santino. I'm old enough to remember when Retail was a place where knowledgeable and fairly paid people were valued. No more, at least not here! This place has really gone down the toilet. Staff are either ignorant, awfully paid, just plain don't give a ****, or all three. The "Bargain Bin" for Men is absolute chaos, and the stuff they are trying to sell for MSRP is outrageous. Not only that, but the size markers on the hangars have no correlation to the clothes hanging on them, even in the "non-clearance" parts of the stores. It's a shambles. St. John's Bay, their brand, used to be of good quality. Now it's made in Vietnam, (a dictatorship worse than China) and it's anyone's guess if the size marked on the garment actually is within a mile of reality. The Men's room smells like a sewer, and looks like Atilla the Hun used it recently. I used to like shopping here, but no more. I can see why they are getting their a** beat in by other stores. I started the return process online only to find I would be charged an $8 fee. To avoid the fee I took the items to the store to return. To my surprise, the employee said that since the return process had started she could not return my items. I needed to call customer service to stop the return process and come back with my items. Had been a loyal customer for a long time. Customer service is really doing poorly, I had to wait a very long time to pick up a package (half hour) when there were ample people around to help. Only one person in line ahead of me. Makes no sense, why would anyone think they could get a rapid pick up when you will just get caught in the line with the angry customer returns? At the Carlsbad Mall...err, umm I mean --The Shoppes at Carlsbad-- (the more "bougie" vernacular form of shops or department store), JCPenney is showing its age. Even though a few years ago Penny's tried to alter their image to appear more hip, modern and cool - the storewide refurbishment still seems incomplete for some reason. Perhaps it's because they flip-flopped which logo to use four times in four years. Attendance is so low, even on the weekends, that I can only find one register open and the line, 3 or 4 or 5 people deep moves like molasses. Perhaps it's the constant urging by sales staff to apply for a credit card or sign-up for their rewards programs. I used to shop quite regularly at Penny's but I'm finding fewer and fewer items that I like. I wish they took a few risks as far as affordable fashion goes. Not everyone is into Dockers, Levi's and Stafford. For instance, the ONLY reason I step foot inside Sears is because they carry Structure. Everything else is just "blah". read more

I cannot believe JC Penney policy on returns. I received 2 shirts for Christmas. I do not have a gift receipt or receipt. Without one they can only give me the lowest price which was a total of 12 dollars. I found the exact shirts and the sale price right now would make the cost 32 dollars. I spoke to Aaron the supervisor on duty. He tried to assist but the person who gave me the gift couldn't be found. I have been a Loyal customer for years and without a receipt JC Penney will make you feel like a criminal. I just wanted a credit so I could turn around and give them their money back.
