Visited the store at this location early afternoon and found it well laid out with sales in every department. Not difficult to find check-out and very pleasant. Clearly well managed more so than other JC Penny stores I have visited. Worth a visit. read more

Not wanting another hole blown into their anchor store headcount during the pandemic, Simon Malls bailed JC Penney out of bankruptcy to the tune of almost $2B in 2020. From the looks of things maybe they shouldn't have bothered. The store looks like a time warp from 1985 with absolutely no investment in making their shopping experience remotely contemporary. Lighting is interrogation room harsh and you'll have much better luck finding your size on the floor. The place is a mess. Only the few remaining Sears stores look more funereal. Don't spend money at JC Penny. I bought 6 pants on a Black Friday sale. Xersion Brand which I can't find anywhere else, the only really think fleece sweatpants I know with ties that don't break if you take too deep a breath that fit my long torso frame. They mailed me 5 of those pants and the wrong item with the right item's label. I called and told them ship me the correct pants and next week if I'm in the Freehold area to go to Sams, I'll drop the shirt. The require me to drive 12 miles to go hunt down the pants I want in store and then make the exchange. I was in the hospital last Monday, not happening. And they will not let me send them proof they screwed up. I said email...1980s...are they 35 years behind in tech that I can't send proof? I'm not required to return the shirt or pay for shipping, and then have not fulfilled their contract...if I was petty and it were worth the time, I could sue. They tell me if I refuse to go to the store I can mail them the item if I want to, that's $8 for shipping, even though they sent the wrong item, and labeled it wrong. ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS. I CAN SEE WHY THIS STORE IS THE NEXT BB TO CLOSE. YOU CAN'T GET A HOLD OF ANYONE. CORP OFFICERS IN PLANO, TX MUST HAVE NASA AND THE CIA GUARDING THEIR EMAILS OR CONTACT POINT. HERE'S MY STORY: I am e-mailing you for some assistance, or a shoulder to cry on. I purchased a Mattress at your Freehold, NJ store on May 26th, 2023 (my 72nd Birthday). I was told by the sales rep that I would receive a ship date within a couple of days and then a Delivery date. I was notified a week later that my mattress was shipped. Another week went by and I was notified I would be contacted. I waited and additional week and on June 13th made some inquiries as to were my mattress is. I was told to contact ARIA Trucking for delivery. I called them that same day(6/13) and spoke to Diego (800) 631-1895. He told me my mattress will arrive 6/16/23 (tomorrow). I also informed him at the time that I am only home after 9:30AM, I take my wife for chemo and therapy on alternating mornings. I received a message on my home phone today and it was from ARIA stating my mattress will be delivered tomorrow between the house of 8AM and 10AM. OOOPS... I guess the above readers digest version goes bye-bye. I'm not home until 9:30 daily. Now here's the kicker....... I called ARIA and spoke to Diego again and he was unable to give me a Delivery date. That's funny, they schedule out of his office AND HE WAS UNABLE TO SECURE A DELIVERY DATE OR SUITABLE TIME. Interesting. I called your customer service dept a short while ago at (800) 442-7902 and after explaining myself I was put on hold for 18 minutes while the person who was suppose to help me out COULD NOT. He did offer to REFUND me my purchase. So let's understand what just transpired. I either do it ARIA's way or ask for a REFUND. So it's easier to REFUND my $$ than accommodate a delivery time. Got there first thing in morning to return two pair of men's pants (not well made). There was already someone at the return line, who seemed to be an employee. She was chatting up a storm with the single return person. She had 5 or so items to return. I added if there was someone else who could wait on me or if could take it to cashier right outside door, who had nothing to do. The answer was a resounding no!! I waited 15 minutes. When the chatty return lady finally waited on she she didn't have the grace to apologize for the long wait. The items they sell are not of high quality and the service is dreadful. read more

Seriously rudest staff ever! Why would i want to give my money to you when you act like my presence is annoying you. I found a pair of pants on the clearance rack marked 10.99 but when she rang then up they rang as 14.99. When i questioned the price she said "you're wrong!" And then basically yelled at me for questioning her. You can keep your pants. I don't feel like i should have to argue with anyone when I'm at shopping. Honestly i would have gladly paid for the pants but her absolute incredible rudeness made me walk away... for good! read more

After my most recent visit here, I decided to demote them 1 star. Not only is the inventory getting worse, the way the store is set up is pretty sad too. For instance, outside the womens dressing room, there are NO seats of any kind!! Now any suffering husband or boyfriend can tell you, waiting for your girl to get out of the dressing room can seem like a visit to Dantes Inferno!!! Get a fuc*#ng bench and put it down right there!!! They put a Sephora in the middle of the first floor here when there is already a Sephora store right in the mall???????? WTF?? Looking for a mens suit?? Don't bother here, unless of course you are attending a funeral. Then you will be more than overjoyed at the vast selection of black suits. Little old hag with brown hair at the watch counter was the most rude person I've ever dealt with in retail. I had just got done making a purchase at 7pm, yes I know it's closing time but I was on the line waiting for 15 minutes as the person in front of me was adding clothes on last minute and then applied for a credit card. I made my purchase and began to walk toward the closing doors. That's when I was yelled at by that lady to "get out we're closed". Very rude off the jump. Then I was saying "ok ma'am I just want to know which door I can go out of". However I didn't even get to finish asking that question when she jumped down my throat telling me to "leave already we're closed, I can't help you anymore". Even though I was clearly a paying customer with my bag in my hand, she didn't want to help me. Then I said "ok please don't yell at me and let me ask what I was gonna ask". This is when she just turned around and walked away saying "screw it im not helping" at which I replied " I guess I'll have to call corporate for help". She responded with " I don't care if you call corporate, I don't care who you call, call the president for all I care." She clearly does not care about paying customers at all! It's a shame this company is ok with people like that representing their business. I will be returning tomorrow to return my purchase simply because I won't support a company with such rude employees. If you don't care about me I don't care about your business. My time here felt worse than an all-out 200m dash. The employees reeked of cheese, specifically one in a gray sweatsuit. I believe his name started with an "M". He tried, what he called, "grappling" me. He placed his hand on my shoulder and yelled "REEEEEEEEEEEE". would not come back. read more

This place isn't so good. The inventory like someone else said stinks, and the racks are a mess. Casual shirts are like $7.99, I got a polo at Old Navy for $7.00, and there were polos at H&M for $7.99! The one I got was $9.99 though. JCPenney is lowscale I know, but when I think of lowscale I think of low prices, and the certaintly isn't the best of the case. I much rather save my pennies worth at Macy's or Kohl's. JC Penney is either going out of business or SHOULD be. It's almost impossible to get someone to answer the phone in ANY of their departments -- all phone menus lead to voice mail or no answer at all. And voice mail calls are not ever returned. I wanted to have a JCP custom blind replaced and after many attempts to reach someone in the Freehold, NJ store, I spoke to a live rep who said I'd receive a call back about placing my order in a few days-- it never came. After days of trying to reach a live person again, I finally spoke to someone and was again told someone would call me back the same day or within a day or two. Again, no return call. All further attempts to call them have reached only voice mail or, often, no answer at all. I even tried another store - the East Brunswick location. But no live people answered there either. I was HANDING JCP a sale and they don't even follow up on that! Is there any question as to why this chain is failing? I give up. I'll take my business elsewhere. JCP: RIP. The woman in the window treatment department is by FAR the most miserable and impatient person I have ever come across. I went in Friday with a print-out of blinds I found on JCPenney.com to look at a swatch as I was told over the phone they had these blinds in the store. When I arrived no one was in that department and I waited around 10 minutes before she walked up and I asked her if anyone was working in that department and she very coldly said "ya me". I began to ask her about the blinds on the printout and she cut me off and said that the online store is different than in store and they do not have those. I explained that I called and was told they are in store and she just kept saying they don't have them. I asked if there was a color swatch I could look at and before I could finish my sentence she said "no the online store is different". I asked her if they had any similar blinds in store that I could look at and she interrupted me again to tell me the online store was different. I literally could not get a sentence in without her cutting me off and dismissing me. I folded up the paper and said okay, let's pretend I never showed you this and start over. I need some blinds for my bathroom. Do you have any you could show me. She then lead me to the back and said "these are for bathrooms" and walked away. I literally have never dealt with such a rude person in my life. Someone needs to find a new job if this one is making her so miserable! read more
