I went here today and the cashier asked me if I wanted to open a credit card account which I said yes. I entered all my information and since the cashier was poorly trained, she did not know how to complete the credit card application process. So, I ended up having to re input my information and was told that I would get a letter in the mail. So I had waited in line for 20 mins for no reason. Kind of a waste of time. I ordered a sweater and leggings from Penney's online for a pretty good deal and went into the store the next day for pick up. It was my first time ordering from Penney's online and going to this location so I was directed to go upstairs to pick up my order. By the time I got there, there was about 5 people in front of me. I probably stood in that line for at least 20 minutes. There were 2 ladies working the counter initially and then finally a 3rd lady came to help. The process itself was very easy to pick up the items and I was on my way. Fast forward to today, one of the items I ordered ran really big and I needed to get it exchanged for a smaller size. This time there was only 1 lady working the counter and I was the 2nd person in line. Once again, the wait was long and by the time it was my turn, the line was massive with salty customers. My recommendation for management: Ensure your online pick up counter is fully staffed as most customers nowadays prefer online shopping. Don't ruin the experience by making your customers wait forever to pick up their order. It would be great if the customer service representatives working the counters downstairs were able to at least process exchanges and returns so the pick up counter won't be so back up. Holidays are coming, ensure you're departments are running efficiently. read more

About a half-century ago, there used to be plenty of JC Penney stores around. The first one I went shopping at covered a whole block between 11th & 12th Streets, Broadway to Washington in downtown Oakland. Downtown Oakland was booming back in the days (late 50's to mid 70's). There was a JC Penney in Berkeley on Shattuck (their downtown area) and the one at Southshore Shopping Center in Alameda (part of their store occupied by Trader Joe's). Then they started closing the stores and the closest one is at Southland Mall. It also has been over 20 years since I browsed their catalogs and ordered merchandise. I ordered a lovely ivory pantsuit from jcp's website in two different sizes (12P and 14P). Setting my ego aside, I couldn't fit the size 12P and darn, if I could only lose another 10 pounds it would have fitted. Thus, I had to make this trip to the store and return it. The sales associate at the catalog department was friendly and helpful. She took care of me immediately and sent me along my merry way with a 25% off voucher for friends and family. It's good for 5 hours only on Sunday, August 11 from 5 to 10 PM. What a way to lure me in to do more shopping online - a 16% savings, excluding the 9% sales tax. Tip: Want to return merchandise quick, fast and a hurry? Get into the store within an hour after they are opened for the day. There are hardly any customers and it's not crowded. I can't believe I found everything I needed for my trip here... whoohoo! I really hit some awesome deals on some beautiful pieces. I started my shopping with a pair of Arizona bootcut jeans at $25 and Decree blouse at $15, which I topped off with a purple lightweight jacket at $40 totaling $80. A whole entire outfit for under $100... now how awesome is that? I'm sure if I would have browsed the shoe dept I would have found shoes for $20 but I never buy shoes here. They had a lot of other beautiful items in the store but not in my size, so I guess I'll be hitting up another JCP real soon. Hooray for great quality items and awesome service. I have a crush... ...on JCP! It's TRUE!! I've turned into a fan of what JCP has to offer now. I'm constantly browsing their website for deals and steals. And it's hooking and reeling me into the stores to look, feel and touch. This week was bedding. JCP, Jonathan Adler and Liz Clairborne were all telling me that they would look great in the master bedroom. Looking at it online was great but it didn't tell me if the quality was there. That's when I popped into JCP to make sure I liked it enough. The shelves were practically empty but I did see other styles with the same brand to look at. At least that gave me a sense of what the quality was like...and what I saw and felt, I likeeeeeee. So, I plan on ordering a bed set online. This location still needs some sprucing up, especially the 2nd floor, Home section, it was SAD. But its changing little by little and eventually, it'll look as chic as the Pleasanton store. I can't wait for the full transformation to happen. I'm so excited to be a JCP shopper that I've been telling my friends and family about it. I like the JCP store, they have a huge selection of nice clothes and items at a good price. This review is for the salon. I had an appointment with Ana today and I told her what I wanted (full highlights and color correction), she told me that I have too much hair and my hair is to dark to have highlights. I've had highlights and all over color done on my hair 10+ times at other salons. I was surprised to hear her say that. She told me it'd cost $250 and I was ok with that since that the general cost for my hair. But she kept saying she can't do it. I wish they had assessed my hair over the phone, that would've saved me a trip. It's hard booking an appt now when I have such less time left before my upcoming trip and all salons are booked. I had an account for almost 40 years and after being a victim of identity theft that I reported to everyone, Penney's chose to close my account. A good standing account, a platinum customer who told them about problems and mistakes they made and still I was penalized. Worst customer service ever. Staff is real quick to discriminate a Hispanic mother and daughter. We paid with cash. I had a dollar that I had washed with my pants so it looked a little funny and felt weird too. And the lady (a Philippino woman with glasses/associate # is 0056) is gonna turn around and ask the other woman working there "is this even a real dollar?" Then the other woman says "yeah.." but then looks over at us and questions it as well. I then speak up and say "it's a real dollar there is no reason for me to give you a fake dollar if I i work hard for my money..." and both women say quiet while my mother and I leave the store. JC Penny needs to train their staff to discriminate and be less racist to Hispanics this isn't the first time I experienced discrimination here. I come to this location if the Newark location is out of the clothes or size I want to get. Seems like they'll always have my size the other store doesn't. They have a good inventory and the workers here are always nice. Plus they do a good job handing out coupons and discounts in the store. It's a little out of the way but worth it. Yet they could not produce any proof of such email. Yet they had no problem taking my 12yr old's money when she bought her younger brother a shirt for his birthday yesterday. The first time I realized they discriminate was the last time they had this promo. The woman who claimed to be the manager, refused to give me their district mgr's contact info and stated I give my kids the money to shop there so I'm the only one who could get a coupon. REALLY BIH??? You somehow magically know where my kids get their money from? FYI, my 12yr old babysits so she earns her own money. Another FYI, there is nowhere at JCP.com online that states you must be a certain age in order get a coupon or use it. Why do they insist on making up their own rules out of the blue??? read more

My parents purchased their retirement home in Jan 2019 and needed 3 appliances: a refrigerator, a washer and a dryer. They bought the top of the line items at Penny's on 1/20 and spent close to $5k. They scheduled a delivery for a week after the purchase for Tuesday 1/29 AM. On 1/29, the delivery arrived and upon entering our home, my father asked if the gentlemen would put on booties since we had brand new carpet. Instead of the delivery man explaining due to legal reasons, they weren't allowed to put on booties, the delivery-man said he was NOT going to do that and said he was cancelling our delivery. My father was confused and stunned because he wasn't aware of JC Penny's policy (obviously. Who would aware of that besides employees?) and he didn't understand the hostility and aggression from the delivery driver over a simple request. Fast forward, the delivery company GE Delivery and driver obviously sabotaged our delivery because according to JC Penny's, our delivery is no longer on the books. JC Penny's is claiming now they will delivery in February!! Needless to say, we cancelled our order and went right over to Sears and purchased the same appliances and at a better price. NOTE TO CUSTOMERS: I'd be very wary of JC Penny's and their ability to manage their internal supplier, GE Delivery. My mom has spent hours on the phone with JC Penny's since 1/29 and have not seen resolve yet! She spoke with 2 managers, 1 of whom had a horrible attitude and neither were not able to help us. We spoke with the Stoneridge store manager as well and they weren't able to help either. They continue to give my elderly parents the run-around and at this point I STRONGLY believe JC Penny's and GE DELIVERY are purposely scamming and targeting older individuals! They are targeted my parents and thought they were going to let this whole situation slide and just wait around for their appliances. I would not shop at their stores! They truly screwed my parents and left them without the main appliances most households need to survive. read more

I had to drive back 30 miles here just to return merchandise I bought that was defective out of the box, but not only that it was used and repackaged in a brand new box. I came in to make a simple return of a few items of a few items I bought online. Let me just cut to the chase, this dinosaur is dying. The lines at the registers were super long. Not a single team member called for backup. From the messes on the counters and on the floor, it's safe to say the leadership of this location is struggling. The staff in two separate occasions redirected me to different places to make the return. The store is in disarray. Even during my undergrad days of retail, no matter how bad it was, we kept the store neat and clean and move with speed to service the clients. This JCPenney store refused to process my family holiday photo. Here's what happened. I went to this place on 11/20 to have my family holiday photo taken, the ladies told me to come back on 11/30 to pick up my photo. When I arrived on 11/30 to pick up my order, is when I found out that they didn't process my order that I already paid for. The lady at the place now told me that if I want my order within 1-2 business day, then I have to pay extra money for it. Of course, I go off on her. To cut a long story short, I still haven't received my family holiday photo and we tried to call them multiple times, they won't answer their office phone. I typically love JcPenney, but this one was absolutely terrible. My mom just moved into the area and I was excited we live so close. However, it was a Monday night (not a busy sale) and the store was so messy/ borderline dirty. I could get past that, it's not Macy's afterall, but terrible/rude service on an easy night is unforgivable. We wanted to purchase some shoes, but the shoe department had a line of 3 people and the first person in line was taking a long time. After waiting about 10 minutes, we decided to go to another register. The people at the register were SO rude, unhelpful, and unfriendly. They didn't smile or say hello. The first thing they said was "Oh.... shoes usually get rung up in the SHOES dept". Umm I used to work at JCP and I know that this is not true. The rest of the transaction went just as rudely and as painfully. None of the cashiers were wearing name tags -- probably because they don't want to be accountable for such terrible customer service. People really need to learn some manners -- Definitely avoid if you can. read more

I was never a huge fan of JC Pennys till recently when they had a renovation. The Men's section looks awfully nicer and there is a wider selection for the teen girls section. JC Pennys pretty price, but I believe they brought back some special coupons and sends out credit to buy at the store. Came here recently for the holidays and I loved the selection for the men. I wasn't very pleased with the woman, a bit disappointed. Looks like a better selection for men and boys. The little boys selection's really nice, it's located upstairs. We ended up buying really good button ups for a very nice clearance price of about $20. I really enjoyed the experience of the JC Penny store and they have very cute stocking stuffers, the line is a bit long when we went about 11AM-12 ALSO the upstairs furniture section when we went a while ago there was an old man, and he was the sweetest man ever. Dirty, disorganized, and impossible to figure out the prices for anything. I won't be going this location again. First floor: The stuff on the first floor by the aisles looks pristine--handbags, scarfs, the expensive shirts, pants and Blazers. But it was really superficial. I tried looking at dresses, which are more tucked away by a back corner, and nothing was organized. It was actually impossible to tell what the prices were on anything, because nothing was on the right rack. Every rack advertise some kind of sale, but it was obviously not referring to whatever was on that rack. I sort of expect that from clearance racks, but not in the regular sections. After browsing for a few minutes, I finally gave up, because I couldn't tell if the dress I was looking at was on sale. In the way everything was on the wrong racks, it was only slightly more organized than the clearance sections. Second floor: The big and tall section and the boys' sections were a complete train wreck. I'm going to upload 2 photos of it--I've never seen anything like it, even in the junkiest of thrift stores. Just to find a couple of pairs of shorts, I actually had to sort through piles and piles of disheveled clothes. Children's clothes were mixed up in the adult big and tall clothing. Also, there was only one dressing room by the clothing for men/boys (with the floor half-covered in clothes), which was constantly in use. The person I was with had to go downstairs to try things on. Restroom: Used the restroom by the dresses in the first floor. It was dirty, had paper all over (except in the paper towel dispenser and some of the toilet paper dispensers, hilariously enough). It smelled terrible, it looked visible dirty, and I could hear a toilet running in an adjacent stall. read more
