Warning - avoid this employee There is a cashier (older woman) who did not refund me the correct amount. I did not discover her error until I got home. Sadly, It was too late to call the store. I have shopped at this store for many years and I have never had a problem. This employee's negligence ruined my day and honestly, how hard is it to scan each returned item and refund the customer the correct amount? Original receipt was presented. read more

TJ Maxx Castro Valley 12-13-25 I had a very disappointing experience returning items at the Castro Valley TJ Maxx. I had a valid receipt showing all items purchased on the same date, including a $9.99 toddler pajama. The cashier told me the item could not be refunded to my credit card because the tag was "one digit off" and tried to issue store credit, even after I clearly said I did not want it she still issued a card with store credit I wanted my refund credited to my credit card account. When I asked for a manager, the manager stated she needed to "look at the cameras," which made me feel as though I was being accused of theft--despite having a receipt. It was shortly discovered that the item had a double tag and was correctly scanned at the time of purchase. While an apology was offered, it came after unnecessary escalation and discomfort. This situation could have been handled quickly and professionally. I believe the manager needs additional customer service training. Because of this experience, I will not return to this location or recommend it to friends or family. read more

I'm updating to five stars because this location is still going strong! Moved out to the South Bay for a bit and was excited to see that the TJ Maxx was still in CV and had all the rings I needed as well as didn't know I needed! The husband and kids usually stop in after a stroll down to the boulevard for dinner. This TJ Maxx location has a little bit of everything but our favorites include: 1) men's sports clothes and dress shirts. (I should take a star off for the fact that he always finds clothes and I don't but I won't be petty and spite his good fortune!) I do find some good football jerseys in the youth section for myself that I can usually squeeze into to save some bucks! 2) pet goods. Castro Valleyans (is that what we are called?) love their pets and this store has a huge area of total, beds and accessories to keep your dogs and cats happy. 3) kitchen items. We have purchased storage containers, spatulas, pots.... You name it! It's a great spot for those last minute items you realize you need when hosting a party- extra platters, utensils, etc. 4) luggage! great prices on quality luggage to enhance your travel experience. 5) customer service! Cashiers are always friendly and take care when bagging items. This is one shopping place I can say my husband and I both enjoy going to which is rare! You will always find something to take home (after paying of course) at this awesome establishment! I'm giving 4 stars because the service is good almost every time I go. There's ample parking as it's located in the Castro Village Shopping Center. They offer great prices for their items, but I wish they had a lot more supply on hand. A lot of the racks looked very bare didn't have much clothes on them. They have lots of great items in the Pet section and found lots of 2 packs of Chuck-It balls which are my dog's favorite. There were many items in area where they don't belong, but the store itself looked clean. It's my local TJ Maxx so I will definitely be returning. read more

Although they have a lot to offer at this location, they lack in men's clothing. They never seem to carry my size in men's pants. I found some nice fun pair of socks. This is a good sized big box store. It has restrooms and dressing rooms. The store includes a huge selection of women's clothing, household goods, pet supplies, and seasonal items. They lack in Men's clothing, little boy clothing (ages 5-7) and even older toddler (4T, 5T and xs and small) clothes. I always have my hopes up and should know better by now. However, i now know, when i shop here i know i will get good finds for anything home related and toys for Christmas! That will not disappoint. I can't complain about the service, the associates are very friendly, considerate, and simply doing their job and sometimes I've seen them go above and beyond. On July 19, 2024 at approximately 7:30PM I was shopping at the TJ Maxx store in Castro Valley California. After not finding exactly what I wanted, I decided to drive down to the Fremont location at Pacific Commons. As I left the store, at approximately 7:50PM, with my dog and her dog carrier, and I was almost at my car, when the security guard came running after me. I was a bit alarmed at first as he was a big guy, over 6'2" at least and imposing, and he was calling out to me, ma'am, ma'am, Ma'am, and I turn around and he's holding my purse, and he's like ma'am you left your purse in the basket! And I stopped, like stunned, my God he had my purse and I had my entire paycheck inside of there that I had just cashed earlier. I was in a bit of shock because it is so unexpected these days when people return things to you that you've lost or left behind and I was so thrilled. I thanked him profusely and immediately called the store management and let them know what a great security officer they had. And I also wanted to come here on Yelp and tell all of you that this store has literally the best security guard that I ever had the pleasure of meeting. He saved my life that night; if I had lost that money, I would've been in big trouble. I never got his name, but once again I just want to let him know how thankful I am and how proud I am of him. Stila, MAC, Anastasia Beverly Hills under $20! You just have to look. Every-time I come they have Impressions Vanity Mirrors under $20. They have a large variety of kitchen appliances! Which is the main reason I come for that and to find good makeup on sale! As for clothes, I'll stick to ross as they are cheaper. There is an Indian woman at this store I wanted to punch....twice! She was rude dismissive and darker than I. She was reported both times! I'm making the darker comment because I'm black and knew why she was treating me the way she did! Twice!!! The manager was also inefficient and there is no customer service! Why I am giving 2 stars for this store is for the simple lack of human decency that occurred on 12.06.2020. With new SIP rules in place and the Holiday season, there was a line that stretched around the building to gain access. My partner and I got in line and after 20 minutes, I needed to use the restroom. I walked up and explained the situation that my partner was in line and that I would be quick (the 32oz water i drank needed out) and return to line. The worked said she would have to check with her manager. The manager arrived (I don't recall her name but she was a definite Karen) and she flat out said no. She gave me a big Covid-19 lecture in addition. Of course it was all complete nonsense. For whatever reason, she just wasn't going to do it. We decided to leave. We drove to the next town over and got in line at a competitor's store and yes, they had no problem with me using the restroom. It's hard to find common junior sizes: *size 5 in bottoms/jeans *medium for sweater/jackets *size 7 in shoes On multiple occasions in the medium section, I found a couple cute tops which were labeled/hung on a "M" hanger, but by the time I went into the fitting room, I noticed it was a "S." That's annoying. Tho shoes section is even worse! They have a very slim selection of size 7 shoes, whether it's heels of sandals. A newly built structure is the home of this classy clothing retailer. Next to Ross, the bowling alley and in Castro Village shopping mall with lots of parking. As you probably know more than clothes are sold here but all the leftover odds and ends that cant be sold at Macys or sililar seem to get a last chance here. Looking for some shorts as things are heating up around the bay here. I need something breezy. I think this is where I found my favorite and now worn out looking DC shorts last year with cool looking lightening volts and tiny white stars. Was hoping to find ones similar. The hunt begins... A guys shorts are as imortant as a ladies purse. We "move in" with a belt, keys, wallet... pockets have to fit our phones and our junk. Lucky for me I wear 28 or 30 and most guys need bigger sizes because of all their big macs. 32 thru 36 were more scarce. If thats your size you might want to go to Macys and pay full price unless your ok with pink color or an odd pattern.... Or loose a pound or two so youve got pick of the litter like me. If you are crazy about skin care products aka FACE MASKS, come here to get them! They have a wide variety of face masks, cleansing foams, eye creams, etc! The most recent products I bought was the Cosmetea Black Tea face masks ($6.99 for a 10 pack) and the Aloe Vera face masks plus face wash gift set ($7.99). I think they're both Korean brands, which I love! It doesn't irritate my skin and it has a nice pleasant smell to them. What a great deal! I know some places charge at least $2 per face mask. Come during the week if you can. Weekend parking is pretty packed and the lines are usually long. read more

I'm so glad another store has opened here in Castro Valley. I was in desperate need for some interview clothes and I was able to find a whole outfit with shoes here. It was nice that they have more formal clothes sectioned off (not need to go through the racks). One thing that really stood out to me was the customer service; some people were very eh about doing things but one cashier was very friendly and even congratulated me on having an interview, threw a few words of encouragement in there too. He really made me feel much better that day since I was so stressed from not having an outfit and of the interview. This place is very well organized compared to other places that I have been. Although the clearance section is still a bit messy, it's not bad at all. All the other sections are neat with everything in order and nothing on the floors. There are decent amount of selections for clothing and just a lot of everything. It's a bit dangerous for me to be in here without a budget or a goal to get something...I'll just see something and want it because it's already cheaper than the original price. It's also nice that there are many brand named items at a cheaper price here. I can look expensive but only had spent half the amount of money it would've took. Yay lower prices! It's still a little more than Ross but I'd take quality for some items that I know I'll use a lot (like jeans or shoes). Final Thoughts: So glad that I don't have to go out of the city to shop for just a few things. It still has the new store smell! Jk I don't know when this new building was finished and opened for business. Last time I was in the area, it was but a construction zone. That must have been eons ago. People probably judge the store harshly because of its prices but their products are superior to those of its neighbor, Ross. TJ Maxx has more stylish quality wares (ie Coach and MK). So be fair! You don't go to Bloomingdales, expecting Sears prices. The store is discounted (from original MSRP), not bargain basement. The store is bright and expansive! Spacious aisles full of merchandise for you to peruse. There were lots of facial and skincare products....a large home decor section...and a good selection of houseware items. With such a long line at the cash registers, I'm a bit weary of the cashiers going on with their rehearsed sales pitch for the store credit card and signing people up. read more
