Absolutely AMAZING store to find ladies clothing and a lot more. I could hardly believe the many cute styles available in ALL SIZES! Their sales items are the best bargains found anywhere. They carry famous name brands and other items of very good quality. We need to shop here to keep this famous and fabulous store in business. Upstairs they have even more good stuff. Please come here to shop and do not leave until you check every department. Seriously, this is a legacy store that was here when the Tacoma mall first opened in the 1960s. I love jc penny because they have larger sizes, up to a 5xl. We hit a day when pink tags on discount items were just 5 dollars.... so we ended spending about 80 bucks but it said on the receipt what the price would have been compared to what we spent and we saved over 800 dollars. read more

Yesterday I got my hair cut at JC Penny Salon at the Tacoma Mall. Upon paying their debit card machine wasn't working. Neither the salon manager nor the other employee knew what to do about it. They kept trying to make it work. Nothing worked & it was taking a long while & I had a whole day or errands ahead of me so I opened my bank app to see if it posted. It had! I showed it to them & was on my way. When I arrived home after 10 pm I checked my messages. JC Penny salon said the payment didn't take after all. I checked my bank account & sure enough the posting was gone. So I called them today to pay over the phone. Not done at JC Penny! So I had to drive all the way back in - 64 mile round trip! And when I arrived doncha you it was MY fault! My fault they don't know how to work their machine! I did NOT take my card out before the machine told me to. I spoke to the store general manager. He made it more than clear that it was my fault. I will never spend another cent here. read more

I was in on August 12th and I had a great experience with Sonia in the women's department. It was a busy day with a long line. Sonia was very friendly and helpful. Even though she was working efficiently to get through each customer in the line, she treated each one in front of her as if they were her new best friend! Whew child! We used sanitizer before we entered the building. Got to the studio and saw their request for customer use of hand sanitizer so we obliged. The photographer was BARE FOOT and told us she couldn't let us come in until we used the hand sanitizer. We already did. I asked to skip the up selling of packages and she said we couldn't pay and leave until we listened to what they have to offer. I thought I could walk away and purchase online, she said we couldn't because we had to listen to the sales talk if we wanted access to our photos. We left. After many many years shopping and loving JCP, I give up. The little crush is over. When they finally go out of business no one will be surprised. Least of all I. They will blame Covid or Amazon but it's their own staffs fault. When an email tells you where to go for pick up, after waiting and waiting they tell you to go somewhere else and then you go there and they tel you "all websites are out of date". Huh? Oddly enough, this review is for the Salon inside of Penneys @ the Tacoma Mall. Specifically, it is for Justin, who managed to work miracles on my hair despite my jitters. I was calling around frantically on a Saturday evening trying to find someone to cut and color my hair after my previous appointment did not work out due to a terrible case of unprofessionalism (that however, is another review for another time). After about an hour of calling, someone recommended Penneys @ the mall - wait, Penney's has a salon in it? Who knew! I had hair down to my waist that had not been cut in over a decade (not including split end trims), and it was time to cut it. Now if you have ever had long hair or have spent any significant amount of time with someone with long hair, you know what I'm talking about. If you have never been blessed by the long snaky strands of silky annoyance that find themselves clinging to every surface known to man, simply put: cutting it off is a very big deal. THE SALON: The salon itself was very well lit and was very clean. It was also very spacious and had a ton of chairs in it. It was late in the evening so there was only a handful of stylists there, but Penney's has the capacity to really cut some hair if they want to. They also offer salon products near checkout and are very educated in what type of product is good for different types of hair. The shop was basically empty, which was actually good, because I had my husband with me who is a Wounded Warrior and has a hard time in loud and crowded places. THE STYLIST: Justin took the time to do a hair consult with me (which apparently is rare nowadays), asked me what I wanted, told me the ups and downs of it, went through color swatches and was totally supportive of what I was doing. He then braided and banded my hair since I told him I was donating it and he actually warned me before he started cutting the tail off. We had a mini mourning ceremony (there may or may not have been actual tears involved) and then it was time for some fun. He cut and then colored, shampoo'd, trimmed again, and then dried and styled my new do. All the while he was cracking jokes with us and interacting with my husband, both of my girls and me while still maintaining a professional down to earth attitude. I have not had that much fun having my hair done since prom (1993... -ish). I absolutely love the color and the cut and I could not have asked for a nicer, more professional, supportive stylist. My long, blonde hair that went down to my waist, turned into a reverse wedge cut just below my jaw line that is more of a burgundy wine that fades into a light burgundy at the tips. THE SHORT VERSION Penney's has a salon. It is clean and managed in a very professional manner. Justin took me in as a last minute cut and color and he did a FANTABULOUS job. I have already recommended him to friends and family and now I'm recommending him to everyone else too! If you are picky about your hair and have high standards for how you are treated and what the finished product looks like, pick up the phone and schedule an appointment with him. I am writing this two weeks after my appointment and I still LOVE my new do :) read more

The manager tried to handle the matter but she over talked me and tried to tell me what the issue at hand was in this incident. I had to stop her and explain; I. Can advocate for myself and articulate the issues sufficently. Charlene was booked for me to provide a rollerset. I made the appointment via phone and provided notice my hair is relaxed. We arrived and was told no paperwork needed to be completed. Cool. Receptionist went to get Ms. Charlene. Charlene walks by without acknowledging nor addressing me and told the receptionist, "I'll find someone else." I presumed she was talking about me. The receptionist comes over and says we have someone else to do your hair but can you wait 15 minutes. I'm butt hurt. I could have ran to a massage appointment and went to the credit union then taken a later hair appointment than sit here and waste time. It's just not efficient. What's the issue is my question? I'm told Charlene can't do my texture. Okay, I know a bit about this and provide: 1) texture is texture. Had she talked to me I would have provided I only need a rollerset and no styling. I'm not natural. 2) I provided notice at booking that I am relaxed. 3) Even the most ardent beauty school instructor and beauty school building teaches the most basic thing... which is: a magnetic rollerset. Had she consulted with me like a professional is trained to do then she'd know what's what and what it is I desire. Look I'm all for folks knowing their limitations. I won't argue what makes a stylist a stylist. Beautician a beautician. What I know is.... a rollerset IS NOT A SPECIALITY. This is something each student is mandated to learn upon enrolling in even the most "elite" beauty school. I proceed to find Ms. Charlene so I can inquire about the issue. I make it clear with the lowest monotone voice that 1) I simply wanted a rollerset with magnetic rods. 2) I know the color that I want 3) I don't require styling She offers to free herself up from helping someone else to now provide this service. I thanked her for the offer and said no thanks. Explained this is a basic beauty school item and had you consulted with me then you'd know all this. Look folks race and coded language aside. There's a process do every salon floor. I actually respect and appreciate said process and I grade anyone that doesn't follow it accordingly. Portrait Studio Review I live 2000 miles away. I see my nieces and nephew MAYBE once every two years. We wanted to get portraits done for the grandparents... We were early the studio was behind on appointments... about 30-40 minutes behind. The photog seemed to be doing fine. We got a certain shot in... I mean, perfection. I specifially asked her if it could be cropped vertically. It was taken horizontally. She assured me it absolutely could. The was the last shot she took and I was fine with that because it could be cropped vertically. Umm... so we get out to where we order the prints we want. Could the picture actually be cropped vertically? Sure. Except it would crop out my nieces. What. The. Heck. I swear. I never hated someone so much as I did her in that moment. And of course we couldn't get the kids in there again to retake them. They were fussy and a mess because they're small and remember... the studio was late on appointments to begin with. Jeez. Go somewhere else. You know. Where people actually know what they're doing. This review was intentionally written three weeks after the fact. I really wanted to give myself time to not be furious so I could be fair. This is fair. read more

Unbelievably rude employees. Drove here from Olympia because it is a bigger JCP. Apparently Bigger selection means bigger attitudes from the staff. Three out of the four employees I had contact with were rude, short, and abrupt. It is obvious from other reviews management needs to train their staff better and teach customer service skills to be in line with other JCP stores. The store gets two stars for the Joe fresh selection as well asa ANA- I love both of those sections. I think I'll just stick with the Olympia store or head further north to south center next time. read more

This is not only for the JCPenney in Tacoma, but also JCPenney online. I received an e-mail from JCPenney as I had an account through them. The e-mail was regarding an online sale. I was relaxing at home and decided to take a look and see if there was anything interesting. I found a shirt on sale for 26.89. I ordered it and it arrived about 5 days later. The shirt had a price tag on it stating 14.89 and not only that, it was ripped in 3 places. I called to see what I could do about it and the easiest thing, it seemed, was to take it in to an actual store. I stood in line at the cashier for quite a while. Once I was the next person in line to be served, an employee approached me and said that just on the other side of the white wall behind us was an open register with no one in line and suggested I change registers. Ok... so I walk over to the other side of the white wall and find a wall of costume jewelry. No register. So I go back to the original one and get in line again at the back. I finally made it back up to the front only to be told that I needed to go all the way to the register at the back of the store. So, I walked to the back of the store and got into a line for the 3rd time with my overpriced torn shirt. I showed the cashier the shirt and asked for an explanation of why I would be sold a shirt with a "sale price" that was 12 DOLLARS MORE THAN THE PRICE TAG, not to mention the 3 large (unrepairable) tears. The only explanation of anything I received was, "haha looks like it went through the ringer". So, I asked to close my account with JCPenney and was told to contact customer service. I did call the customer service line and when I explained why I wanted to close my account was still not given a reasonable explanation of why I would be overcharged for a piece of trash. I will NEVER be shopping at JCPenney for anything. Walmart has better customer service than this - extremely disappointing. read more

My mom just landed in Southern California. On the drive home she was telling me about a bad experience she had at this store... She tried to shop recently at your location before work. What happened was: She went to a register that didn't have many people because she was afraid of getting stuck in line that would cause her to be late. The register was being worked by an old woman, who offered her a discount if she applied for a credit card. My mom said sure, so they proceeded with the application. She automatically assumed that my mom rented. When she said no I have a mortgage this woman had the nerve to ask her "Are you sure" But wait, she also made sure my mom was aware that the bra cost $40 and that the shoes were $70. In a way that made my mom feel uncomfortable almost implying that she couldn't afford it. Lady, my mom is about to buy her 11th home. Now I'm not sure if this has anything to do with race. But my mother has been in this country for 25 years and she has worked her ass off. Owning homes worth more than a million dollars here in California, and now 2 in Washington. My mom was telling me that this lady was taking too long and she was going to cause her to be late for work. At my moms job being late is not a joke there are no excuses. This woman's computer apparently shut down and my mom said you know what, I don't have time for this I need to get to work. She ends up leaving without purchasing. A couple of weeks later she realizes the bra and shoes were charged but she had no product. Trying to fix the problem, she goes back into the store. The manager says "apparently you took the merchandise" and does absolutely nothing to help. How rude and disrespectful are you people. I am so disgusted and upset that my mother was put through this. Total Lack of Customer Service in purchase of an adjustable bed frame and mattress. I purchased them 02/20/2017 with a bank debit card. It is now 05/23/2017. No bed. No corresspondence, except to call the salesman to confirm the order and my payment cleared the bank, nearly $1,800. I have received no corresspondence or reply to multiple unquiries. I have called multiple times with no results except to cancel the order and request a refund on 04/20/2017. Once again no response, or refund of money urgently needed to pay for worsened health due to bed needed. Lack of customer service I started off pleased with my purchase of a new range and microwave. The delivery process however leaves a lot to be desired. I arranged for delivery on the 3rd of Dec so I took off work so I could be home for it. The Sat before my delivery date I got a call telling me that they had to move my delivery date to the 13th of Dec. it's too late to change my arrangement with my employer, thanks a lot. So the next delivery date is here and I get a call saying they will be here between 1pm and 5pm. I say that's unacceptable as I will be at work so it must be earlier in that day, mid-morning. After hearing apologies from Geri, Curt, Vicki and Chuck, no one could provide me with a resolution, only repeated apologies. Curt wasn't even listening to my problem. I told them to cancel the delivery, return the range, I'll make my purchase elsewhere. Very unhappy with JCPenny. I will not be shopping there anymore. Went to JCPenney's to find a new bed. I have been there several times and checked out various beds. After the last mattress place I bought a mattress from refuses to honor their warranty and because I've had an issue with them I get the absolute worst service I've ever had. And I must say dealing with Jennie each time I've came into JCPenney's has been a great experience. She has went out of her way to help my wife and I with financial options as well as what is going to work for us for a long-term solution to this bed issue. She has given us solid vice with no pressure at all and bed mattress shopping a good experience. This might seem redundant but I am compelled to write another review on JC Penny. The last one was about the South Hill location, Saturday night we went to the Tacoma mall location. On the 28th is a father daughter dance where my husband will be taking four of our daughters. We searched several different stores including both the junior and youth departments at Macy's. The selections were extremely limited or extremely age inappropriate. My last stop was JCPenny. I had not looked for dresses for such an event there before so I was thinking fat chance but went anyway. I found beautiful dresses for all four girls in one section!! They had at least six different dresses to try on each so that they felt like they had several choices to make their own decisions. It was a fashion show, other little girls that we didn't even know sat around to watch and comment on their , it was so cute. We walked out with 4 dresses and 4 pair of slippers (2.99) each for under $120. I give a five star not for the in store customer service at this location as we were not approached by a single employee in the hour that we spent in the store and the English was definitely a second language for our cashier, not that that matters, it just made communication a little difficult. I give 5 stars because of the selection, the price and the convenience. Lastly, and maybe most important, I give 5 stars because the out of town management that comes into town once every month or so, if not more. Always stop into my restaurant, they ask about my family, they want to see picture of our beautiful kids who are almost always wearing something from their stores. And above all they want to hear about my latest experience so that they can go discuss the wonderful things they are doing at their stores, where they need a little work and to get a prospective from a mother who wants to dress her children nicely without going broke. I have gotten pictures here several times. And each time was a positive experience. Except today. Today was awful. We called to schedule an appointment. The gentleman scheduled us for 5:00pm. 30 minutes later, I get a call from a complete stranger saying he received a confirmation email from JCPenny photo studio. He said he called to let me know they had sent it to the wrong person. I asked how he got my phone number, and he said he found it when he clicked on the link in the email (along with my first and last name). I found out the person that scheduled my appointment had just entered a random email into the email section (it was not similar to my email AT ALL, so I know it wasn't a typo, he didn't even ask me for my email). I called JCP portrait studio to let them know about the email mistake. The lady that answers the phone said that I was not on the schedule at all (which is a lie because the confirmation email stated that my appointment was for 5:00). She then proceeds to ask if 5:30 is ok. I explained that my 6 month old naps at 6:00, and would be too cranky around 5:30. So then she said our options were a 3:15 appointment or she could call in a 2nd photographer to come in at 5:00. I said the 5:00 option would be fine. So we arrive at the portrait studio at 4:45. There is only one photographer there. She is assisting another customer with her post-shoot order. She informs us that she is running behind and that there is another session ahead of us, so "it's going to be a while." We sit and wait. Just as we are about to leave, the second photographer walks in at 5:05. The first photographer starts to help the other family that had been waiting, and the 2nd photographer that was specifically called in for our session, takes over the ordering process that the 1st photographer had been working on! We sit and wait until 5:25, our baby started crying, so we informed them that we are leaving because we had been waiting a total of 40 minutes, and it was now 25 minutes past our appointment time. The first photographer replied "sorry about that." There was no attempt to remedy the situation at all. As someone who has worked in management in a customer service industry, I recognize poor customer service when I see it. And this was extremely poor customer service. read more

Worst experience ever dealing with the portrait studio! It took the girl over an hour to start taking pictures of my one year-old!! Which by the time the pictures started was tired and restless.. I paid for a package that when I came to pick up the pictures was not what I paid for. Then when I called the store to try to get help it took me over 45 minutes to get somebody on the phone and that was after I called the mainline and ask for a manager! The girl that got on the phone asked if I was almost done because she had customers in front of her?! Are you kidding me? Then proceeded to tell me something about coded pictures and I told her I not only had a receipt for what I paid for but I had an order summary that was emailed to me from JCPenney's! I will be calling the manager in the morning to talk about this because at this point they're taking my money!! The pictures of my daughter turned out less than OK she wasn't smiling and on top of that they cut part of her head off on the picture this is the worst ran and worst quality of pictures tha **** update*** Ended up on the phone with corporate about this situation. Shopping at JCPenney for appliances made me nervous. I would never think I would get someone who is knowledgeable about then in a store that sells more Clothes then anything. Boy was I wrong. Steven was beyond knowledgeable. He was able to pin point my needs and wants . He asked so many questions and was able to help me visualize how I want my kitchen to look. Again surprised someone here would know how to do this. He made me feel like a true customer. Not only did I get the fridge I want but also a new dishwasher. I will tell my friends and family that going to Home Depot and Lowe's is not needed. But to come see Steven. Portrait studio is awesome! Come here often for photos, we love the photographers here. Lise/Lisa? the hawaiian gal is awesome and can really get out little guy to smile. They are very patient and have great ideas, work well with us. The prices are pretty good also and often have coupons. We scheduled a family/maternity photo session for 11:45 the Friday after the Thanksgiving Holiday so the fact that we were called up 30 minutes past our scheduled time was expected and understandable. However, our "photographer" was neither a professional nor a photographer. She gave us a lot of push back on the backgrounds that we were interested in, not in a way that was based on professional experience; it seemed more like her personal opinion. She was adamant about using one of the props and a holiday background and we asserted our disinterest very clearly about both. During the session, she kept asking me "what do you want to do next" and "how do you want to pose" and "okay now what". This was frustrating because I was expecting guidance and direction from a professional, not to pose for my pictures, watch and direct my family's poses, and direct the photographer as well. Before starting, I had given basic instruction on the background and then asked to get some with different family members. Typically that has been enough for professionals to go on. Our staff person was unfamiliar with the equipment. She kept asking us if WE saw a flash, where the red dot was, and if she should adjust the light. Again, these were things my family and I were unprepared to manage FOR this individual AND take pictures. It was frustrating and distracting. Once done, another staff person showed us the photos that had been taken. I noticed my sweater was ill adjusted or had shifted, a professional would have caught that. Most of the photos were not at all what I had hoped for. I settled on a few for 99.00. Even this part, deciding on the photos with the other staff person was frustrating. For some reason we were forced to stand next to her and wait as she put together holiday collages of our pictures even though I was very clear with her that we had no interest in holiday pictures or collages. She told us she was required to put them together anyway. So there we waited begrudgingly to get to the part where we could choose what we wanted-- I'm under the impression that that should have been the first priority? No? After choosing the pictures, she then commenced to ask me about signing up for a membership. I very clearly said "no" and as if I hadn't, she continued asking me about it 5 more times where I was forced to say "no thank you" 5 more times. We asked her if we could have the photos mailed, so that we didn't have to come into the store and deal with the same frustration and incompetence and was first told no and when my husband very sternly raised an eye brow and asked "really?" she told us we could but that it would "cost like 15 dollars". We were not discouraged and agreed it was worth it. Turns out it only cost $9. In summary: 1. Untrained/unprofessional staff 2. Staff not knowledgeable about policies/equipment 3. Session process: rare, it may be but when a customer comes in with specific wants/don't wants those should be honored as long as they do not go against company WRITTEN policy or the realm of possibility. If I say "no" once or twice that should be enough. read more
