I haven't been so disappointed in people in a while. I am a very petite woman, so much so I have to order my slacks for work. I ran to jcp to pick up my order from .com and my toddler fell asleep i. the car. I have hip issues and currently have a pinched nerve but needed my work pants so I carried my 3 year old. Online orders is on the 3rd floor and once I got up there their only customer was being assisted while another woman was on the other side of the second wait line browsing so I got in line directly behind the customer being assisted. After I got in line the lady that was browsing got in the other empty line that was for an unused register. I thought it was strange. I waited in agony holding my sleeping son for 27 minutes. When the cashier finally called for the next customer the lady next to me cut me off. I exclaimed "seriously!" She said she was there first which I corrected when the cashier chimed in the she had been waiting for a half hour. I repeated that I have also but she ignored me and helped the rude lady. I looked at my sleeping son and the shocked customers behind me. I loudly stated she was a terrible person watching me struggle qhile she had a pillow. When I got to the register the cashier apologized for my wait. My son at this point is stirring and starting to cry while I am shuffling around trying to get my ID and items she didn't even check. It took me 2 minutes to get my items and that lady couldn't wait. The cashier knew I was there longer. Made eye contact with me multiple times and showed no sympathy. Great choice JCP. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but everyone in the bedding department was just exceptional. Prices were great, but the staff is what really stood out. They were helpful, informative, and extremely professional. Jim, the associate who was working with us, really helped walked us through all of the considerations. If there is something that I hate worse than rude service, is asking someone for help, and having them point you in that direction. We realized that my son grew a lot over the summer, and so we took him last minute to get some new clothes, and shoes. 1. The employees are so hard to distinguish from customers. That is frustrating. 2. We had to ask several people where the items we were looking for were, and THEY ALL would JUST POINT. 3. After several hours of shopping, we found the uniforms, they were so hard to find because they were tucked into a corner with the girls clothes, and if you're looking for boys clothes, your not going to think that they would be with the girls clothes. 4. There were not people manning the changing rooms, one had bright yellow liquid on the changing room bench, we were not going to stick around to see if it was pee or not, so we moved to another fitting room in the store. There were hangers and clothes EVERYWHERE, most likely due to the fact, that no one was manning them. There was also no place to leave your unwanted items, so many people were leaving their unwanted clothing all over the place, does that not add extra work, just get someone to man the fitting rooms! 5. By the time we found the uniforms, other people showed up just as frustrated that they were not able to find the uniforms as well. 6. We get to the shoe area, and there is no one there helping, I saw some employees standing behind the register, but every time that we approached they seemed to disappear, so we left without the shoes. The only good things about our trip was that we did leave with what we were looking for (minus the shoes). We left tired, and frustrated, no one should leave feeling like that. Our check out was pleasant, we didn't wait long, and the ladies were really nice. Would I go back for leisure shopping yes, would I go back if I had specific things in mind that I needed, heck no... read more

I generally haven't had a bad experience at other JCP locations, but the employees in the shoe department in this one sucked. A younger gentleman was the only person there to help & he completely blew me off for almost a full 15 minutes to chit chat with the customer he was ringing up... It took him 10 full minutes of my standing there to even acknowledge me. The two customers who he was helping were blatantly uninterested in the one-sided conversation ranging from the clerk's attendance to TCC to god only know what else & the one not buying anything even apologized to me. It was ridiculous. I spent well over $100 for a pair of shoes & I got absolutely no assistance until I was made to feel like I was beyond a nuisance when his audience finally departed. The only silver lining was the very nice girl at the customer service kiosk I went to across the store to pay for my shoes & other items. read more

I have shopped Penney's for many years and I have recommended it very highly for price and selection,. the prices have risen and selection narrowed but still worth taking a look. The hardest part I have with Penneys that I never had before are some of the clerks attitudes are rude and snobbish I have put aside the clothes or whatever I was going to purchase because the clerk would just go on messing with other things she could set aside and check me out instead making me feel like I, as a customer wasn't worth waiting on. That may be part of the stores problem they need to have undercover people who don"t dress up and look like spenders cause I.m sure I'm not the only person who just runs the way I am and shops.. read more

JCPenny is a fine department store. This location always seems dark to me, especially after the bright mall. I've browsed the womens clothes section a few times and have an occasional hit, but am generally disappointed. We also came here after we moved into our new house to look at some basic needs and curtains. While they did have a great selection of curtains and other window decor, the saleswoman couldn't have been less helpful. We said 3 things we didn't want and what did she bring us to every time? Cheap, shiny, nasty looking things. Once we ditched her, we did ok. We also bought a few pillows and blankets but we returned the pillows after we found almost the exact same ones at Costco for half price. Sorry JCP. read more

WHERE ARE ALL THE EMPLOYEES? We went there today because I had a good coupon and I was able to find what I was looking for but this place is a ghost town. No people anywhere. I am visiting from Los Angeles where I have the best Stylist in the world! I really needed my hair done while visiting my Son and decided to try JC Penneys on the Tacoma Mall. I met Brianna and made an appointment for today. I did not have high expectations because of my hair texture and thickness and since she stated she didn't use a hot comb. First thing, she was waiting on me, second she is very pleasant and doesn't talk too much - just enough and last but certainly not least she proved me absolutely wrong in assessing her ability to do my hair. She did an Outstanding Job and I will be back to see her before I return to L. A. at the end of the month. I sent my Husband and 24 year old Daughter a pic and they loved my hair. here is a copy of a letter I wrote to the store /// I recieved a generic letter in return General Manager It has been almost two weeks since our shopping experience at the JC Penney in Tacoma Mall. However, the bad taste that experience produced is not leaving our minds. It has been a few years since my husband and I have patronized any store in Tacoma Mall and our experience on 28 March 2013 solidified our reasons for avoiding the Mall. First, I want to say that I worked at JC Penney for 10 years and several of those years at the Mall location. With that being said I also want to say that I actually like JC Penney very much and still to this day have fond memories of my experience there as well as knowing several people who work there. Next, I want to thank JC Penney for acknowledging same sex couples in your mainstream advertising. This is the reason we came to store. However, once we got to the store the experience went sour. We set out to buy new cookware and we were interested in a set that ran about $300, we both needed new shoes and we were expecting to pay about $75 each on those. We were not browsing; we came with the intention of buying. Once we found house wares amid the construction, we saw that there was a person manning the area. She was helping another customer. It was 1130am so we were there in the middle of the day and not at a fringe hour. However, once the sales associate help the other customer she left, not to be seen again. We waited close to 15 minutes for anyone to appear on the sales floor. As you may guess, no sales associate came back. We were never greeted, we were never acknowledged in any manner. At best, we were ignored. So we left and we avoided the shoe department also. We returned home and bought the same exact cookware set brand new off eBay for $90 including shipping. We understand that two people do not make a difference to JC Penney. However, if JC Penney is going to advertise to same sex couples, I suggest the sales people prepared to provide customer service to them, or at least ring up their merchandise. We have no idea why we were ignored, was it because we were gay, or was it because we were men in house wares or was the sales associate just apathetic? I am not sure how often JC Penney can afford to allow customers to walk away, but losses JC Penney posted for the first quarter earnings report lends evidence that it will not be much longer. read more

My wife and I recently bought our first home back in March. Having spent the first few years of our marriage living in apartments, we never invested in any decent furniture, knowing that it would be heavy and prone to damage during moves. Soon after moving into our new house, we set out to find a nice couch to complement our living room and replace the uncomfortable futon we'd been using. After a bit of shopping around, and a few disagreements about what material we wanted, we finally found a couch that we both liked at the JCPenney store at the Tacoma Mall. My brother warned me that he had recently purchased a couch, which was delivered with a broken armrest, from the same store. I thought to myself, "That has to have been a fluke. They couldn't be so inept as to be unable to deliver a piece of furniture without damaging it every time." Man, was I ever wrong. As with many of these stories, everything started off great. The salesman was friendly and seemed to know the furniture pretty well. There were plenty of different pieces to try out, and each one had several different colors to choose from. Things started to go downhill, however, when we were informed that since we chose a color other than what was on the floor, that it would take eight weeks to deliver. Now, eight weeks may seem like a long time to wait in our modern age of instant gratification, but keep in mind that a couch is a complicated piece of machinery requiring many precision instruments to manufacture. And let us not forget the plethora of oxen teams, yokes and wagon wheels needed to get it across the Oregon Trail. I just hope nobody got dysentery along the way. Despite the long delivery time, we decided to go ahead with the purchase and continue sitting on our collapsible camping chairs until the couch arrived. Approximately seven weeks later, my wife received a phone call from the company with whom JCPenney contracts to deliver furniture. The lady at the warehouse set up a delivery date and informed her that there was a small issue with one of the pieces of the couch (it's a sectional by the way). It seems that during the uncrating process, or perhaps during a battle with bandits, one of the couch pieces received a six inch gash in the fabric. Naturally, one would think that any respectable company would be apologetic and offer a replacement, and perhaps a small discount on a future purchase. This was not the case. When my wife told me that the lady asked her if we wanted to keep it, without so much as mentioning any other options, I couldn't help but picture that stereotypical movie ditz who is always smacking her gum and twisting her hair around her finger. My wife informed the warehouse ditz that we had no desire to keep damaged goods we had paid a good deal of money for and asked what our options were. In the end, we decided to accept the delivery with the understanding that the damaged section of the couch would be reordered and redelivered. When the delivery day finally arrived, my wife received yet another phone call from the warehouse. It seemed that someone forgot to load our couch onto the truck so delivery would be postponed one more week. We begrudgingly accepted the new delivery date. A few days later, the couch was finally delivered and life went back to normal... or so we thought! After six weeks or so with our injured loveseat, we were informed that the replacement had arrived and would be delivered the following Friday. When the day came, I left work early to meet the delivery men and to finally put the whole ordeal behind us. Several episodes of Downton Abbey later, I realized that it was getting a bit late for a delivery. The next day we were informed that our couch had once again been forgotten at the warehouse and that it would be delivered the following Thursday. The day arrived and my wife once again left work to meet the delivery men. About halfway up the stairs she realized that they were lugging the wrong section of the couch into our house. After informing them of the mix-up, the men loaded the couch back into the truck then proceeded to tell my wife that she should be sure to reorder the proper section of the couch next time (seriously), and that it would be yet another eight weeks before the new section arrives. My fingers are crossed that this is the end of the story, but that remains to be seen. You may think that this story is too crazy to be true, but the truth is, it has all happened. To be honest, I've even left out some details just for the sake of brevity. Joking aside, I've never in my life experienced such sheer ineptitude and disregard for customer service. Not even at Wal-Mart! (joking no longer aside). Needless to say, I won't be purchasing any more furniture, or anything for that matter, from any JCPenney again. I hope that my story will at least provide you a few minutes of entertainment and perhaps persuade some of you to avoid the utter headache of dealing with JCPenney. read more

First review ever. Beware when ordering on line as JCP uses extremely devious marketing. Black Friday I ordered a 4-pack of Jockey boxers on a "buy one get one free" deal, along with a few type socks. When I received the order, there was only one pack of Jockeys. I called the 1-800 customer service line and after waiting almost 15 minutes, was told I only ordered one pack, so I didn't qualify for the free one. I had to have entered 2 in qty. box. I explained that my order confirmation shows item by item the savings in red, and above the Jockey order it shows in red "buy one get one free". I said I bought one, and I want one free. The punk kid on the phone was practically laughing at me. Customer service.....yeah. I am now returning the entire order, being removed from their e-mail list, and will never step foot in their door again. read more

Russell in the furniture section could not be more rude. Came in with my family today and while my mom and I looked at the couches, my siblings sat down on one. Russell said to them, "This isn't a furniture presentation. If you're not going to buy something, you can leave." They're 17 and 12. I then told him they were with me. He then asked ME if I planned on buying anything. I said I am looking for a couch, but mentioned we were just about to leave anyway, to which he replied "I think that's for the best." Honestly totally confused why he chose to be so aggressive with us. Hope he was just having a bad day. read more

DO NOT use their portraits studio!!!!! Made an appointment for 3pm, in which I arrived at about 2:50p and wasn't seen until almost 4p. When we finally finished our session we had to wait an additional hour just to review, select, and purchase the photos. They are so SLOW. If you have time to waste or ample amounts of time to blow then by all means go here. But if you don't feel like waiting around then this place is definitely a no go. The employees are very nice and good. They gave us two free 8x10 for the inconvenience, but the damage was already done. When they finally got to taking our photos my four year old and one year old we're SO restless and were only able to do a few poses bc my son was not interested from sitting around in there and my daughter kept crying. Bout time we were leaving they were both crying and wanted to leave. All in all good service But the Waite time was a deal breaker. Groupon or not. We will try Olympia next time. read more

Worst experience in photography. I arrived early by a few minutes. While waiting for my appointment the photographer (?) was taking with another employee about how she didn't want to work but had no choice because no one else would answer their phone. Nakira my photographer (?) then brought me back I handed her the guidelines and advised again as I did when making the appointment that this is a professional picture for my companies website and flyers. Nakira took six poses not once stopping to adjust anything like the lighting, to changer her flash battery that continued to malfunction, or tell me that my hair was out of place. Once the session was over, she showed me the photos and I had no choice but to settle on a subpar photo because she provided not direction. The rest of the photos were unusable. I have never had a photographer (?) complete a session without stopping to adjust things so you have the best possible selection. Then Nakira proceeded to ask if I wanted to purchase another package....are you kidding me? I don't even want to spend what I spent on my Groupon for this horrible outcome. I will NEVER come here again. Beware of this unprofessional experience. I use a (?) after photographer because I would in no way shape or form classify this employee as a professional or even semi experienced photographer. I will probably have to have the photos retaken somewhere else as they are extremely below business/professional standard. read more

Kaity in sephora is the best! Very friendly, out going, patient and helpful. I went in to look for some cologne and she took the time to talk to me about the different senses and gave me multiple samples. I ended up going with Mont Blanc legend which I get compliments all the time on. I've also witnessed the make up she does... Simply amazing! I've never really liked make up and never really saw the point of it but she simply did an amazing job. Even from a guys perspective it was amazing! If I was a girl I would shop and get my make up there by her all the time!! read more

I was really worried about my Groupon purchase for portraits here because of the mix reviews, but I'm glad I took the risk. I had an overall great experience with my photographer. She was very patient and understanding. I wish I got her name but she had her hair pulled back and was in glasses. My daughter and niece were a handful, and she handled it like a pro, but she did tell me she had twins and two more children. So I'm very happy with her and my experience. read more

We have checked out various stores. for a bed and decided to check out JC Penney's. Jennie the sales representative was awesome. She went out of her way to help. The bed was to be delivered by JC Penny's delivery agent. On Monday the 17th, we received our call that it would be delivered between 3-4 on the 18th. We got rid of old bed and waited. At around 9 on the18th, we received a call from the delivery agent they only had half our order and needed to deliver it for fear of losing it. We contacted JC Penny and they stated they would check into it. The delivery co stated they were looking all day on the 18th , on the 19th they finally requested a doc-search. We have contacted J C Penny over and over trying to get some help, they blame the delivery agent. We asked that it be delivered on a Saturday once its found but JC Penny's can't answer that. We got a great deal on the bed otherwise we would have already cancelled and every place else takes 3 to 4 weeks before they can deliver so we have tried hard to work with them. J C penny takes no responsibility for the items being lost from their delivery agent and aren't even concerned about making it right. We have talked to the manager and still aren't getting any help in rectifying this issue. I am so angry and disappointed in this company, we understand that things happen but their altitude just hasn't helped. read more

Seniors! Think twice about going to Penney's. In my experience the eye Doc was nice and super knowledgable...but when it came time to buy glasses I learned I had no choice but to buy them from Penney's! Like most seniors I'm on a fixed income with little wiggle room for high-ticket items like glasses, and yes, even JCP prices are high, for me, anyway. The dirty little secret is that JCP will NOT give you the "Pupil to Pupil Distance," a magic number you need in order to buy glasses. So, while I found a cheap online eyeglasses website, too bad: no PD number, no glasses. I walked in to Penney's in person and was told, "You can't have the PD unless you buy glasses from us," by an incredibly RUDE woman who turned her back on me and actually walked away as she was telling me this! A later phone call to the manager confirmed this policy. If this is the protocol for eye glasses-buying, well, it's news to me and I've been buying glasses for 25 years. There is a happy ending, though. I contacted my old glasses place in California (in a mall) and they gladly and cheerfully gave me my PD over the phone. Now I can buy glasses anywhere, any time...which needless to say, doesn't include JCPenney. read more

Portraits studio did not respect my time. Came early to appointment (1/2 hour), waited until 30 minutes after my appointment time, finally asked if we were going to be seen since they had taken everyone else back that walked in the door and they said there were still at least 3 customers in front of us. Wasted my time, my day off and my money as I bought clothes for my whole family to take pictures. Didn't even apologize for the wait or ask us if we wanted to reschedule. I am a retail manager so I am a very understanding customer especially during holiday but I would have communicated a delay and I would not have let my customers leave upset. We left since my newborn and my 5 year old were not able to be patient much longer so the pictures would have been forced happy faces. Extremely frustrating visit because we all know what goes into getting ready for family pictures and to leave with nothing was beyond upsetting. read more
