I haven't been in a JC Penny in a looooong time but a quick google search revealed they have the fancy pillows I wanted to replace for our bed so my husband and I poked our heads in while already at the mall running errands. The store is a bit musty, old looking, and derelict. It's no secret JCPenny is on the down swing - this bargain department store has some die hards among the boomers but it's not popular with younger folks. Still, they do have some good sales and cute clothing if you're willing to browse. I only went upstairs to the second floor home section to try to find these pillows. I found them, woooo, and for two it was $230 (insane I know but they're amazing) - the sticker said what looked to be buy one get one free as well as a 35% teacher discount my husband had. So we tried to verify if the signage was right and the coupon could be used. I walked the entire upstairs looking for a register to check/pay and couldn't find one or a single employee working up there. So I had to carry these huge pillows to the first floor - again - walking all around looking for an employee and a place to pay. The ladies at jewelry checked the price but said they had no idea about the sale and couldn't help me - I'd have to go stand in line and they pointed to the SINGLE register for the entire store apparently with like 12 people in line. I placed an online order on 7/5/2025 for ship to store and my email confirmation said that it would be ready for in-store pickup on 7/9. I kept checking status and it says "in transit to store". I contacte customer service on 7/15/2025 to see if my package had been lost since it was still showing "in transit to store". The customer service person said that my package arrived at the store on 7/9/25 and the store had not processed it for pick up yet. The customer service rep emailed the Lead person at the lynnhaven store to process my order for pick up. Now i t is 7/17/2025 and I still do not have my package processed for pickup!!! It has been sitting at the store since 7/9!!! This is totally unacceptable. Such poor customer service! How do I get my package that has been paid for??? read more

I miss having JCP at home so it was nice to see and this one was very neat and organized.

Been in there twice now, and each time has been a good experience. The staff there are nice, and they always give a "hi" and "welcome" when you come in. Clothes there are pretty well organized, and there doesn't seem to be any rubbish about. The changing rooms are also pretty clean. Pricing isn't that bad either, got four dress pants and four button ups for about $200. I'll definitely shop there again just for the great staff interactions. Bought a new Samsonite suitcase for $160. It broke on the first flight, not due to handling, but due to workmanship. I contacted the store and they refused to deal with the problem. I wrote a nice letter to corporate and got ZERO response. Needless to say, I will not be going to JIP C Penney anymore. read more

No complaints... I'd return if in the area. JCP is definitely not what it used to be. I'm not sure they made a change for the better, but I do remember the pricing being more reasonable back in the day compared to present day. Nevertheless, I like this location. The workers are pretty much here and there, but there is always someone around if case you need assistance. Now the price scanners that are placed throughout the store, some work some don't. But the presence of them, I love this feature! I love how the shoes/sizes are already out, there is no need to wait for a worker to ask for your size... go to the back to get it etc. I love convenience. Every now and again, check online for coupon savings or download the Retail Me Not app for additional savings. For the most part, JCP can be hit or miss, so at least coming in to see what they have may or may not be rewarding, but it's worth a walk through. There is something present for the entire family. You can even try out their salon that's located inside the store as well. This location is connected to Lynnhaven Mall, so once you are finished here walk around inside the mall to see what else is out there. Have fun and enjoy life :) read more

JcPenney has had a of of transitions over just the past few years. I've been shopping here for years. Many disappointments recently, but there is the occasional gem. They did coupons like everyone else. Then they did away with all coupons and did the sales on certain days of the month. I was all about this. I did not have to chase sales or clip coupons; I just knew to go the third Thursday (or whatever). During this period I had great luck finding awesome dresses in the women's section for next to nothing. Good quality, casual and fancy dresses for as low as $5. Got mom a Joneswear suit for $15 etc. I always looked for tops and pants at JcPenney but the only success that I had was in the women's dress section. This was frustrating because I don't want to wear dresses all of the time. JcPenney then went though another restructuring building up designer stores within, such as Liz Claiborne and Joe Fresh. The designer shops did not, and still do not interest me. Well now JCP is back to sales and coupons. Print coupons, get them in the mail or newspaper and have them delivered to your cell via text. And the JCP coupons are of a decent discount, well worth trying to find something to purchase. I've gotten $10 off of $25 and $10 off of $10 coupons. I have always had excellent customer service here, particularly in the dress, watch and shoe departments. I am excited and pleased about the new Sephora in JcPenney. I've been a patron once and I will be visiting again within the next week. I had the best sales associate at Sephora and got a great deal. My qualm is that the clothes here are too youthful or too mature for someone just barely 30 (in my humble opinion). The shoe, jewelery, furniture, lingerie, home and kitchens sections have something to offer for all ages. Just this week I saw that the JCP salon at Lynnhaven sells Mizani hair care products for ethnic women. The prices seemed fair to me with salon products priced $11 to & $20. read more

In a world where society requires you to wear clothes, this place facilitates that requirement... in a completely average manner. Having acquired a gift card for Christmahannakwanzaka last year, and it's 0.025 ounces weighing down my wallet, I decided to venture into this palace of semi-progressive style. Boy was I almost impressed with this two-story fashion mecca! You gain entry to JC Penney via multiple access points - from the mall, the ground-floor doors, or even a bridge from the archaic parking deck... which is probably the coolest feature of the store. Once inside you'll find a variety of clothing and home options that may or may not appeal to your fashion consciousness. I say may or may not due to the improbability factor in finding someone to assist you - made all the more difficult by the employee's non-uniform dress code. Sure they've got tons of clothing options (that always seem to be grouped into some sort of sale), but that does me little good if I can't find someone in the shoe department that can in turn find the matching shoe for the display I desire... sigh... I literally had to go to a different floor to find assistance during my previous trip to Penney's. Perhaps it's budget cuts, the age and continuous down-trending of profits, and/or the lagging of their style-sense, but either way if you're going to have a store, it needs to be staffed. Aside from the lack of service, the store did present a lot of options that some folks are bound to appreciate. It was also fairly clean and laid out in a easily deciphered floor plan. JCPenney is your typical department store. They have many different items for all different tastes spread across two floors. I've always seen them have a fairly steady crowd when I've been inside. I've been coming here off and on for a while. Most of the time, I come in here looking for clothes of some sort. My most recent visit here was last night since I had a coupon which was expiring soon. On this visit, I was specifically looking for shorts for an upcoming trip, but they didn't have them in store yet. I guess it's a bit too early. Instead, I did get a few more shirts as I did need a few of those as well. In general, you can find just about anything you're looking for here. One thing I've noticed though over the past few visits is that they seem to have scaled back on the clothing options for males. I guess they want us to do more of our purchases online instead. The drawback is that sometimes you want to try things on to make sure they fit before purchasing. Overall, they do have good selection of items in the store. I think they just need to expand on some areas. If you're looking for good quality clothing at cheaper prices, I'd still look here with coupons that I seem to get all the time. It's at least worth checking out and seeing if they have something you want. read more

Came to JCPenney for a return and then an exchange. Had issue with the authorize user system because the employees were not educated on how to use the system. I was instructed by Chris the GM to call the number on the back of the card to add myself to the system. We did that I was added with no knowledge that a card with my name was to be sent. The teller on the phone confirmed my name was on the account and customer service would be able to verify. Not my problem that they have nothing to do with the store and the policies I'm just a customer trying to figure things out. I've had 3 encounters today with Chris the GM and by the 3rd time he became very annoyed rolling his eyes and disrespecting me in front of customers. I'm from San Diego where people don't act like that so I was very surprised by his attitude towards me and I asked him to calm down because I'm just trying to figure things out because his is my first time. I've spent over $1100 dollars at this store In The last week due to a recent move and you'd figure the GM of the store aka Chris would have a better attitude to service me. Seemed like he was tired of walking around he asked me not to keep asking his sales people questions like I'm an issue. I will be calling corporate and making a big deal about this Chris needs training on how to address customers In a dilemma he didn't have all the answers and was very unsure on how to check his system and became defensive and threatening. I don't appreciate being treated this way and will only do my shopping online so I do t have to look at her him again. The other professional Mila who helped me was very helpful called the manager to ensure policy and was a pleasure every time I came In the store to buy anything I'm very dissatisfied and disappointed with Chris and his mismanagement. Ahh, what was I thinking? JCPenney used to be the place. The "one" rating is for the optometrist. She was super professional and her diagnosis was correct for my eyesight. The rating is generous for the eye glass shop as a whole. The glasses that they have are well-suited for folks that are either 100 years old or for those that are 8 years old. Anyone older than 8 will know that the glasses selection is awful. Older than 100 years old...my apologies but the styles are dated and just, well....wick...wick....wack. Oh my goodness. The 3 JcPenneys stores in the area where olive are horrible compared to this store. This store represents how JcPenneys used to be when my kids were younger and I shopped there almost every week for them. The staff was friendly and offered to help find something for us. The racks were sorted nicely and NOT crammed so tightly together you can't get thru. There were no clothes in the floor. Shoes were stacked neatly. Bathroom was as clean as a public bathroom could be. Way to go!!wish the stores in colonial heights, chesterfield and stony point Virginia would get a lesson from you guys!! read more

I went in to find a a pair of Khakis for work because I work at Onelife fitness and my pants ripped today. So, I went in and I went to the front desk to see if the pants I needed were in stock. They were but I only had $20 and they were $40. So, I went up front to make sure they were the right price cause online they said they were $24.99. They fantastic lady named Tina in the men's department was so kind, understanding, empathetic and caring. (Note: I'm 18 so being out and budgeting and finding good deals for me is hard.) she helped me find the right size and everything they needed to be to fit the regulations of work uniform. I have never had an retail experience so sublime to this one. I hope she gets promoted or a raise or something because she deserves it. read more

Went there today to get Christmas presents and i went to go check out and had one customer ahead of me and the employee walked around with that customer to help find a jacket and never acknowledged me at all. After 10 minutes waiting, I left to find another checkout. I found one and the employee never acknowledged me at all through transaction until i asked about a price on a shirt that was advertised a lower price. The employee then walked away and came back with a sign that was in the same general location of the shirt and said "no its this price". I wasnt to concerned about an extra two dollars so i just asked about the deal of spending more than a hundred dollars and receiving 25% off. The employee replied that theres only 20% off with jc penny card. My wife then said no its online. The employee just said oh well, you said 20%. Anyways horrible customer service overall and wont shop there ever agian. read more

Was denied resizing of the watch because it was Christmas Eve and the weekend. No one ever said there was times when resizing can be done. This store has been dying a slow death for years but I decided to go today as I was looking for a pair of shorts. Walmart presents a better shopping experience and the clothes in the women's department were the same quality as Walmart. I am guessing this store is soon to close as there were racks and racks of drastically reduced items. The fitting rooms had holes in the walls, some with just one hook. JCPenneys used to be the only place my mother would shop so I grew up on only their clothes. I went their to find work clothes after college and the style and qualit had shifted for about 3 years to more bohemian and with the recession stores like Ross saw more of my money. Since this new campain withthe Fair price has rolled out I am once again more than impressed with JCPenneys. Coats are fourty-five and sweaters are twenty-two and they just had a clearance sale where everything was marked an additional thirty percent down. They really know how to price their items so it is affordable. They are less expensive than Target, now that says alot. read more
