The space is totally transformed and feels brighter and more welcoming. They worked efficiently and were incredibly helpful in answering all of our questions and providing recommendations on appliances, cabinets, and countertops. The team opened up the kitchen wall, put in a support beam, installed a new sink, cabinets, stove vent, flooring, and tiling. The work is top quality and was completed on an efficient timeline. As non-handy people, it's wonderful to know what you are getting and that Josh will take the time to explain things that are probably extremely obvious. Josh is very responsive, friendly, and honest. WOW. Where shall I start? We hired this company after seeing our neighbor's remodel and hearing their rave review. I can truly say these guys exceeded my highest expectations. Josh and Jake are a two-man dynamic duo. They efficient, intelligent, very honest and polite. They totally "remade" our small, inefficient bathroom. They tore it down to the studs, moved a window to create a beautiful shower, and turned the room into a functional work of art. And they did it on budget! We hit a snag because my hubby wanted cultured marble for the shower and Josh does tile (as in our beautiful heated floor). We chose a lower bid, (our mistake) and the guys didn't know how to cut the shower window and niche properly. When Josh saw the poor quality work he got right on the phone and let them know (in no uncertain terms), their work would have to be redone! It was all fixed to our satisfaction. Jake was here when they came back to supervise. Josh and Jake do top quality work and don't put up with subcontractor folly. But they graciously bear with clients who sometimes "overreact." They listened and made it right.... One more thing to mention. If you plan on booking these guys do it way in advance. They don't advertise. They don't have to. . Also a "shout out" to Herman at Pacific Kitchen and Bath in Tacoma for the gorgeous vanity top they fabricated for us from a remnant. It's perfect! read more

We just finished a huge basement remodel that included a stairwell, living room, wet-bar, bathroom, laundry, storage and a bedroom. It was largely unfinished (and quite frankly, disgusting) before and as you can see from the photos it looks incredible now. Josh was great to work with - very patient in explaining all parts of the project to us, giving us guidance in what we had to purchase, working alongside us the whole time to ensure it was going as expected. He helped us come up with several custom, very creative solutions for a basement built in the 1940's. Another giant thumbs up for Josh and his crew! We followed up a bathroom renovation in 2022 with a kitchen and laundry/bath upgrade that turned out wonderfully! We worked with a design consultant briefly and once we had a vision and basic plan, Josh confirmed our approach and hit the ground running come project time! Again, smoothing over inevitable snags along the way presented no issues, and their attention to detail introduced some small but critical elements throughout the upgrade - modern lighting by Jake, full heated floors, custom shelving, and awesome tile backsplashes crafted by Amber. The project finished on time and on budget, and as always Josh and his team were a delight to have around - our pups still miss them! From the initial bid to the last ladder being picked up, this extremely talented and detail oriented crew turned a hovel into my home. The project was immense: to take an unlivable, cramped, filthy attic space and transform it into a light filled bathroom and walk in closet. Working with an existing roof line of an 100+ year house would present the most skilled contractor with a headache, and here Josh's attention to detail shone through. The completed bathroom and closet is even better than I hoped for, and it's clear Josh takes pride in the details of his work. He made adjustments to the architects' plans when needed, like making sure the skylights fit directly over the vanity, moving the ceiling lights to a better position, and making adjustments to a pre made closet kit. For the three months this project took, Josh seamlessly communicated with me while I was out of state, sending daily updates and progress pictures, as well as checking in about details. He worked with subs when needed, and even helped coordinate a new hvac system being installed, which was not part of the initial project. So happy with the remodel Josh and his team recently completed on our home. He and his team are extremely hard working (showing up at 8:30am and staying until 6:30pm some nights!) and very talented. My Dad is an architect and contractor so I know what good work looks like and his team's work is impeccable! They worked on drywall, electrical, flooring, and new window installation--all with incredible quality of the finished product. I highly recommend JD McDowell Construction. Josh and his crew (Eric, Jake & Pat) are a great team to work with. They finished the basement in our 1925 house in North Admiral between October 2020-Jan 2021. During the initial visit to discuss the project, Josh shared a lot of creative ideas on how to solve some of the challenging problems and provided a detailed estimate. Throughout the project, Josh regularly discussed the progress and included us in all important decisions and consulted us on challenges and trade-offs. Communication with the team was easy. He has a solid set of subcontractors that he works with that handle plumbing & HVAC. His crew handles all the other work, including electrical. Josh and his team are detail oriented and do quality work. The project included a full master bedroom suite, tv/entertainment room, and laundry room. Since I'm handy, I did a few of the tasks myself; Josh had no problem working me into the project. We are VERY happy with the end product and the attention to detail. Even after the project was finished and paid in full, Josh came back to correct a few minor issues. Everyone on the team is friendly and respectful. They kept their masks on throughout the project, since the work was performed during COVID. Most importantly, my wife was happy to have the crew in the house for many months. Josh has been my go to handyman since we purchased our home (Oct 2015). Before we moved in, we found mold in our bathroom and basement. He tackled that and built a laundry area upstairs for us. We were on a time crunch and he was able to have all the projects done as our moving truck was rolling up. He is amazing and so easy to work with. Very professional! He is quick to respond. Josh and his team truly did an outstanding job renovating our house, which was a sizable project: 2 full size kitchens, 4 bathrooms, and everything else in between (every square inch of the house was touched). The entire project took about 6 months to complete and Josh was both on-time and on-budget. Given a project of our size, we started off extremely anxious as we'd heard horror stories about contractors. However, once Josh and team started working we found ourselves more and more at ease as we knew the project was in capable and reliable hands. Josh always showed up, did what he said he would, problem solved creatively along the way. Unforeseen issues and surprises will undoubtedly come up with any renovations project and it takes someone of experience and know-how to approach the problem with long-term solutions in mind. We really felt Josh treated our remodel as if it were his own- he didn't cut corners and often took the longer/more difficult route because it was the best solution long term. One of the things we appreciated most was Josh and his team (Jake and Amber) did all the work themselves. We loved having only a small team in the house and everyone was accountable for their portion of the work, and we were pleasantly surprised at how efficient they were. The last thing I'll say is Josh has incredible contacts in the industry. For example, all of our cabinetry was custom-built by an amazing outfit who only works with select contractors (they don't work with customers directly and are very selective with the contractors they partner with). In multiple regards, we really felt we made the best decision possible by going with Josh. We hired JD McDowell Construction to build a 400 sq ft studio apartment above our existing detached garage, and we were so pleased with the results! Josh is an honest owner operator that works with integrity and grit. He has a small crew that can do just about everything, so we didn't have to wait on the scheduling nightmare that can come with hiring a general contractor who brings in multiple subcontractors to do the job. The 3 person crew completed the job in just 4 months and at half the cost of four other bids! Their work included foundation, framing, siding, roofing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, custom tile and woodwork, cabinetry, flooring, HVAC, and paint. We had a baby a week after we broke ground, and it was such a relief to work with such trustworthy guys during such a sensitive time. They felt like family by the end of it. This was our first remodeling project, and Josh was available anytime we had questions or requests. (Even when they were the same questions over and over.) He also gave creative input on the layout that really transformed the space for the best. I cannot speak highly enough about their work and character. I love everything Josh did at my house and recommend him without hesitation. He completely overhauled my unfinished mess of a basement. The space was very challenging and small, but he quickly came up with a simple, clean layout that worked perfectly. We found JD McDowell Construction on Yelp, and are very glad we were able to have Josh and his excellent team (Eric and Jake) fit us into their schedule to work on our front porch renovation and repair this month (May 2018). Josh and company work amazingly hard and fast, but also very thoughtfully and thoroughly as well, resulting in a completely satisfying end result. Our newly updated and enclosed front porch (of a 92 y.o. home) is already being enjoyed by our family with positive comments by everyone, including neighbors. So, my project was pretty "small" in the scheme of things and I know how busy contractors and handymen are these days, especially around here (South Seattle). I constantly struggle in finding even someone to come out and bid me for fence work, roofing, lath/plaster, dry wall, electrical etc. My outdoor space roof leaked during last years epic wetness and the leak (in the fairly new roof) ruined a lot of the dry wall and framing, which was only a couple of years old. What made it worse was that I couldn't find anyone to come look at it for quite some time so the mold moved in and the rot worsened so it was rather messy and my sauna room deemed unusable for a long time. Josh's professionalism started right away as out of the four contractors who responded and came out to look at it, including three of them in brand new fancy trucks with dope graphics, Josh was the ONLY one of them to bring a tape measure, let alone a level and a desire to crawl onto the roof to look at the source of the problem in which he said he could do the WHOLE job (roof, framing, drywall). Instantly hired in my book since the "other" unnamed contractors would only do roof, or drywall, or framing....not all of it. A couple of weeks later this summer, Josh showed up (again with his business partner Jake who is equally as awesome) and no frills, no BS, had the roof off in one day while fighting massive amounts of piss ants and demoed the rest in 90 degree weather. It didn't take them but a couple of days to have the room completely finished and better drywall/mudding work than I have ever seen with a keen eye for detail. They were able to troubleshoot the source of the leak and provide an easy solution so that I won't have the problem again moving forward. Not only are these guys excellent craftsmen, but they were also EXTREMELY respectful to me, my yard, my family and most importantly, my dog! Josh, I still owe you a couple beers and we will brew soon! I have more work for you as well.....so I will definitely be staying in touch. Apologies for the long time it took me to write a review as I don't regularly do so unless completely deserved!
