Oscar and his crew notably Oscar Jr and Adolfo are wonderful people on top of being superior mechanics. My 2011 Prius needed an engine replacement after being diagnosed with rod knock and a possible blown head gasket. They replaced my engine with a low mileage Japanese motor that also included the serial number. They specialize in Priuses and the work was done in a timely 3 days. They even polished my candle-like headlights so that I could see better at night. I've had my car back over a week and it drives very well, quiet and quick like before. Oscar clearly took care of my car making sure it runs smooth and safe. Their work is very clean, the engine looks new. They also installed a catalytic cover. All this for a very reasonable price but best of all is the feeling that I was treated well and fairly, honestly and with respect. Confidence is key and these cats have mine, thank you! read more

August 2024: My 2012 Prius needed the 120K Serive, so I tried to go back to my favorite Prius Mechanic in the Hollywood area (better known as the Armenian Prius Mechanic) only to find out that he has retired.... Horrible news, The Armenian was good, honest and had very reasonable prices.... So, I started poking around Yelp looking for another dedicated Prius Mechanic... and I came across "JDM Prius Auto Inc." with almost 5 Stars in Yelp... I called to get a quote... imediately, I noticed that Oscar knew his stuff... he was able to put a quote together within less than a minute (where the thieves at my local Toyota Dealer struggled to find items and prices in their fancy computer program). My local Toyota Dealer wanted almost 50% more of what Oscar quoted ... my local trusty mechanic wanted about 35% more than Oscar. So, I made an appointment. (you do have to make an appointment, this guy is non-stop busy) I used to live not far from North Hollywood. (Simi Valley, northern Los Angeles)... now I live in Palm Springs (Coachella Valley), abut 130+ miles each way... I made the trip to Oscar's shop in North Hollywood and I was glad to do so.... Oscar is an honest mechanic and you can tell his crew are well mannered.... The place itself is a small hole-in-the-wall type of establishment, so if you are looking for luxury this is not the place... but if you are looking for a Trusty, Honest, Mechanic with very reasonable prices, then Oscar is your man.... you will not be disappointed. I had been looking around for repair costly .. time ... how ever found this place best price .. time very fast service .. very patience to explaining why it's problem .. showing me his scanner tools show error codes ... For engine replace import which had 50k mileage in ..most average.. take them 2-3 business day .. they testing drive before me to pick up the car... she runs very nice alike new car ! Visiting again for brake system which are down ... that different one ... he fixing take him 3-4 hours done this job .. he replace master cylinder.. Wow. Oscar & team, THANK YOU. When it sounded like someone was shaking a can of marbles under the hood at start-up, my neighborhood mechanic was stumped. After 3 check engine visits over a week, I had the dealer check. Blown head gasket. Recommend solution? Rebuild engine. Two weeks. $8,800. I found JDM Prius Plus on Yelp (thank you Yelpers!) when I bought another Prius a couple months ago for the kids & needed a pre-purchase inspection. I wanted to try them then, but they're a little drive away... Totally worth it! Oscar knew from my sound description on the phone exactly what it was. His recommendation? Don't rebuild a faulty year engine, get a low mileage newer one from Japan. He has a supplier, takes 2 days, cost $3,000. Whaaa?! I asked if he needed to see it to be sure. He listed all the fault codes my mechanic had picked up. Done. I scheduled right away. Engine was already in the shop when I arrived. I brought in the newer Prius to care for a couple items that still needing doing after purchasing it used. They started on the old engine. When I left they were already getting ready to remove it. It's a tight little shop full of productive, positive professionals. Oscar is an excellent can-do communicator, a Prius expert who runs a great shop. I will be back!! read more

It all started 10 years ago when I took the family to Mammoth for New Years' and didn't put antifreeze in my 1997 Toyota 4Runner to save $50. The engine blew up in the snow due to frozen water in the cooling system and blown out freeze plugs and we had to get towed 250 miles -- dumb!!! Anyway - I had the engine rebuilt twice and it never ran right always burned coolant, barely passed smog, and it cost a fortune!!! I turned a beautiful car into Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. One engine rebuild lasted 2 weeks before it blew up again and I was back on the tow truck and filing court paperwork. Lucky for me there's a used engine place by my house called SKN Trade in North Hollywood, CA and I thought what the heck Ima buy a "used" engine from Japan with 50k miles on it and start over. I loved my car and didn't want to junk it. I bought the engine and had Don Oscar at JDM Prius swap it out (that's SKN's "go-to" guy for swaps. I can't believe how professional this shop is -- you could eat off the engine when they finished and it purred like a Swiss Watch -- I'm also pretty annoying usually and they put up with me. I always log coolant and fuel burn on all my vehicles and waited until the first tank of gas was used to post this review. Went from burning 1 cup of coolant every 60 miles to 0! Gas mileage went from 13.85 mpg to 18.5mpg . and TONS more power! The problem with rebuilding an engine, and this is my opinion, very few people are smart enough to do it right and then you just waste your money- getting towed a lot - having to sue people - getting stressed out of yourmind -- feeling stupid -- etc... Don't rebuild unless you live by a master engine builder!!! And trust me - most mechanics couldn't rebuild an engine to save their lives -- it's too complicated and nuanced to get it right!!! But if you buy a used low mileage engine and then go to a badass shop like JDM Prius Plus Auto you can get back to living your life with a "new" motor in your car that you love!!! Oscar is phenomenal. My girlfriend and I drive a 2011 Toyota Prius and the hybrid battery went bad. Toyota North Hollywood was charging us an arm and a leg to replace with labor costs you couldn't imagine if you tried. Toyota North Hollywood also wanted to keep the car for a week. Oscar saved the day for us. He came through with a solid hybrid OEM battery with reasonable labor costs and did the job in 2-3 hours the same day! I might just name my first born after this man. Unbelievable. This is going to sound almost too amazing to be true and if I didn't go through this I would have a hard time believing this. We had a disagreement about service and agreement of what was expected. My credit card company sided with me and I got a refund. Long story short, I took my car home and realized that someone actually urinated in my back seat and when we pulled seats out the seat was dripping in urine. How could I possibly be the first to review this place! Let me make a long story short.... I had a blown engine that needed replacing and I purchased an engine from Soken Engine and they not only recommended JDM but they also delivered the engine there. I don't know where to begin. Oscar and his crew did a fabulous, professional job replacing my blown engine. I'm still in shock how easy it was to get this done, having never replaced an engine before. Don Oscar is very knowledgeable about Priuses and I trust him and his guys working on my Prius. My Prius c hybrid battery overheated and I saw the "triangle of death" on my console. I called around and the shops would say there's a 100 dollar fee to diagnose what's wrong with my hybrid. I didn't want to pay that so I kept calling around and Don Oscar diagnosed it for free. Told me my battery overheated and I know I need it replaced. I freaked out and I called my Toyota dealer and I got quoted $4,400 for a replacement battery. I talked to Don Oscar and he quoted me 1100 dollars and that it's from Japanese made. He changed the battery all in one afternoon and I haven't had any issues with my hybrid. read more
