He has been taking care of my mom's Toyota for a while and she has been so happy, they do excellent work and are reasonably priced, in addition to providing excellent customer service. Also he is a huge Star Wars fan. She couldn't have found a better person to take care of her car! I would recommend them in a heartbeat!!! I have heard when the heart of the business is no longer there, the business has no heart. I learned this today from this place, I have been coming here for YEARS. I met John (Satit) through a friend of mine and I have been goin there ever since. I have had 3 cars serviced there. Oil changes, new tires, and body damage work done. I have ALWAYS been super happy and have always returned. I have also referred many of my friends there. I have been nothing but a loyal customer. I bought a car in 2022, a 2019 Jetta, brought it in to have an oil change ( 12/6/2022) cost me $80.70. On Monday ( 4/10/2023) my oil light came on to alert me that the oil was low, couldn't be, it's only been 4 months. Made an appointment at Galpin VW, due to my 4000 mile inspection needing to be done. They showed me why it was leaking. The oil cap was stripped and oil was leaking onto the black cover that was covering the oil pan, the oil cap itself had oil all over it. it was stripped and leaking. NOW, I know this was not a problem before they changed the oil at JAT or they would have informed me. SO, today, I had to get the oil changed AGAIN..another $75.21 for this one. I called JAT to let them know the situation, I was asked to provide pictures and I would get a refund. Sent pics and then was notified by JAT that this was normal wear and tear..are you serious?? A stripped oil cap is normal wear and tear? I have had plenty of cars and not had this issue, I am extremely pissed and I will NEVER return to this place. rest assured, if I have to replace this whole oil pan JAT will be held responsible, even if I will need to sue them. They should do the right thing but apparently they feel otherwise. Did I mention, I have only owned this car for ONE YEAR. i would have NEVER been treated like this from Satit. I miss him read more

Steve was amazing on the phone and always got you in the shop. Now, no one answers the phone. I have been trying to make an appt for months. The man who does audio body work has not been in the country for over six months?? There is no voicemail set up. I have called repeatedly over three weeks try to reach someone. The phone just rings and rings. Then switches over to a different ring, where a message is then initiated saying there is no voicemail set up for this number. I am incredibly disappointed. I do not want to leave this raiting. I have been very loyal to this business because I truly loved both the people who worked here as well as the quality of work. I suggested this shop to many friends. I cannot do that in good faith, any longer. I am sorry to say that I have to look elsewhere for a mechanic. The managers, first John and then Steve were so pleasant and helpful and it was a pleasure to go there. Unfortunatlely, they have changed hands and, while the work they perform may be the same, the rudeness and impatience I experienced on the phone with Brian, when I simply called to find out how much they charge for an oil change, makes it impossible to ever go there again. This place has gone down hill. I've been brining my car here for years and they used to be good. Just recently changed my brakes there, after a week realized a loud noise from the bottom, tried calling them but they would never answer or put you on hold, finally took it to a different shop and saw that my brake calipers were just hanging off the disc without any bolts. Got my oil changed here for the first time and it was super quick and at a reasonable price. I normally go to the dealership to get my car serviced but wanted to try this place out. Asked if there was a consultation price to get a quote for my damaged side mirror and there wasn't. He even provided me a break down of how much it would cost and had it all printed out nicely for me. Will definitely come back! I wish I got the name of the guy that answered the phone, super personable, helpful, and patient. Great customer service! Also for first timers, when you walk in there's a door with a bunch of stickers on it, that's the door you go through to check in. It's on the very right side of the first "garage" when you pull in. First of all when I pulled up to pick up my car, I noticed they had left the windows wide open and allowed spiders to get in. Secondly and more importantly, they stole a pair of headlight bulbs from me and then tried to gaslight me over the phone about it; I went to diagnose my headlights not working after I had just installed two new bulbs and left the old bulbs on the center console. They told me that the old bulbs were actually AOK and that there was a loose prong causing it not to work. So they put the old bulbs back in and "Left the new bulbs on my center console." HOWEVER, the "new" bulbs they had left on the console were obviously not the same ones I had when I pulled in. I could go into detail about how they were different but basically the coloration of the glass was completely different. The Silverstar H1 Ultras have a bulb that is only half-blue, the ones they left me were the Silverstar H1 (NOT ULTRA) It looks like they took the new ones to sell again later and left me with old ones that they must have taken out of some other car. They fixed my problem but I guess the price they charged for it wasn't enough and they decided to take a little extra off the top. When I called the guy over the phone, he completely denied it and acted like I was wrong. Bruh. Google image "H1 Silverstar Ultras" and compare them to the regular "H1 Silverstar" it doesn't take a genius to see the difference. It does take a liar to pass one for the other. read more

Seeking a dependable auto repair shop is always stressful. We have two older Toyota vehicles in our family, and keeping them running at a reasonable price, while also finding a mechanic who we trust is harrowing. I'm so glad we discovered Japanese Auto Tech. Recently, I had our 2003 Toyota Matrix in for an inspection at Toyota of Santa Monica. They claimed to have performed an inspection of the electrical system, and gave us a thumbs up. Two weeks later, the car stalled, and could not be jump started. Fed up with the dealer who missed this, and charged us close to $100 for nothing, my wife and I turned to Yelp. When I came in to Japanese Auto Tech with our down-and-out Matrix, I told the man who greeted us, John, that I was there because Yelp led me there. Needless to say, John is a class act all the way. After giving me a brief history of his shop and their approach to auto repair, he told me that they would diagnose the electrical system and have the car back to me by the end of the day. John is a straight shooter and doesn't try to BS the customer with jargon or condescension. It is really refreshing. Fast forward to the end of the day, it turns out we needed both an alternator and a starter, both of which were installed for a great price. Not only that, but John gave me a verbal estimate on a strut/alignment job that undercuts the dealer in Santa Monica by over $1,000. Yes you read that right. Ridiculous. I don't know cars well, so I am a highly suspicious person when it comes to this stuff. But the other reviews seem true. Steve and Junior are honest guys, and really a pleasure to be around. I bought a used Mazda Miata last week. I went out of town to buy it, and while I had a mechanic inspect it before I bought it, I took it to Japanese Auto Tech for an oil change and so they could do a thorough inspection. They found a lot of issues with the car the mechanic who originally inspected it before I bought it missed. Nothing catastrophic, just maintenance for a car with 100K miles. But at the end of the day it added up. The initial sticker price shocked me. Steve could tell and told me if I didn't need the car right away, he could order parts from farther away for cheaper. It would just take a couple of days to get there. Car is not my daily commuter so that was fine. Being the suspicious person I am, Steve also gracefully took two followup calls and patiently took the time to explain to me why all of the services he recommended were necessary, giving me things like the rotor depth readings so I could research it myself and feel good about pulling the trigger on it. Two days later, the car was ready, and I paid about $200 less than what Steve originally quoted me. Give them a shot. read more

I have a 2010 Nissan Sentra and I have been looking for an honest, reputable mechanic to call my forever mechanic. The car belongs to my 19 year old daughter who gets in it, drives it, puts gas in it, and little else. She was driving it a couple of days ago when it just lost power and died. Luckily she was not far from home. I looked on Yelp for a place that serviced Japanese cars and I came across Japanese Auto Tech Service. I called and spoke to Steve who was friendly and helpful. When I brought my car in, Steve was at lunch but I was helped by John and Junior, both of whom were also friendly and helpful. The team diagnosed the problem, gave me an estimated time for repair and they delivered as promised. The bill was significantly lower than I expected. The little things they do-- really add up. I've taken my montero there after several misdiagnoses from other mechanics, and the team at JATS (ya'll can use that) really have their shit together and have been spot on with every repair. I'm a Professional Level 5 YouTube Mechanic with over 817 hours of viewed Mitsubishi repair content-- I'm also a horrible mechanic. But I have a little more car knowledge than the average LA person, and have some awareness when I'm being scammed for services I don't need and JATS has not once overcharged or pitched something I don't need. Which is crazy. And they use Torque wrenches for everything (even when they don't need to). I love that weird detail shit. I can't wait to get a torque wrench for Christmas, use it wrong, strip some parts and bring it back to have you guys fix it. Anyways, LA is full of bad mechanics-- this place does it right. On a side note-- I'm sorry to the mechanic that had to chisel off JB weld to take off my radiator (I thought it would work-- it did get me to the shop tho) and that other time I filled my coolant system with this copper goo because I thought I blew a head gasket (I'm an idiot). I really like this shop. I used to bring my 2012 Lexus and they always took good care of my car. I had an accident in 2020 and my car got totaled. I purchased another Lexus 2017 and I started bringing it to the shop. I called to get a quote on brakes and rotors and Blake text me an estimate. I brought in my car and they took care of the brakes. I would not trust anyone else with my cars. My son who is in the service was going to be home for the holidays and we noticed his Integra was leaking oil, I brought it to the shop and they took care of it at a very reasonable price.
