This place is genuinely so good. Hands down best pulled pork sandwich and Mac n cheese I've had. The owner cooks everything from scratch and he is so kind anytime we come in. Was in the Boonsboro area & my husband & I stopped by JD's Cafe. Were we glad we did! We both had the Nawlin' Po Boy. The catfish was spicy & absolutely delicious with lettuce, tomatoes & remoulade sauce. Yummy!!! Hubby had crispy onion rings as his side. He made me taste one & it was delicious. He enjoyed the onion rings. I love mac & cheese so this was my side. The mac & cheese was outstanding. To top everything off we had the homemade peach cobbler for dessert. GLUTEN FREE ribs and barbecue! For those of us with Celiac disease having this available locally is a real treat. I had a small rack of ribs, they were so good that all that was left was bone. Went for the first time tonight and it was delicious! My husband and I split a catfish poboy and a Philly cheesecake, JD's way. The catfish was piping hot and the remoulade sauce had just the right amount of heat. The Philly cheesesteak was also hot and very flavorful either way onions, mushrooms and green peppers! So tender! I've been here twice, and both times really enjoyed myself. The first time I had the pulled pork sandwich which is the best-yes, the best-pulled pork sandwich I have ever had. The bun was buttery and the meat was tender and delicious. The second time I got the ribs (only available Friday and Saturday), and while they weren't the best that I have ever had, they were great. They have a smoker outside, so they are fresh and tender. The service is phenomenal. The cook checked on me with a million dollar smile, and I could tell he was truly concerned with how my food was. A few minor cons: While I actually like the "at home kitchen" feel, including the domestic 4 broiler stove top, they need to get that place ventilated. I walked into a cloud of BBQ smoke, and while it smelled great, my clothes smelled like pork all day, and the air wasn't very enjoyable to breathe. The sides are just ok, and some were just bad. I got the Mac and cheese and fried potatoes. The potatoes were acceptable, but the Mac and cheese was watery, mushy, and flavorless. I think part of the problem was the fact that I saw them pour a big tub of Great Value cheese sauce into the macaroni before it hit the oven. Gross. Use some better cheese. The prices are beyond reasonable, the BBQ is fantastic, and the service is great. Go there. read more

Great BBQ and even greater service! The couple who own this place are so friendly and nice. The man who cooks all the food will talk to you and personally ask if everything is good. You have to come early sometimes to catch the ribs. They go fast because they're so good! The pork sandwich is what I always come for, but they offer so much more. All the sides and desserts are homemade. They have sweet potato pie, chocolate cake, banana and bread pudding! I love this place! It's such a great addition to Lynchburg. read more

Ok. I went here because we had a coupon that my wife wanted to use. The place was quiet, no real atmosphere. So what. If you want great comfort food this is the place to go. I had the meatloaf and it was great. Seriously, I would have slapped my wife's hand if she had tried to take it from me. The macaroni and cheese reminded me of my grandmother's, also great. Open the door and walk into a greasy haze, there is no ventilation in this "restaurant." The cooking is done on a home kitchen 4 burner stove, an electric griddle and a microwave. We were the only customers there and ordered one regulation breakfast of 2 eggs, sausage, potatoes, cheese grits and a biscuit and one waffle and waited about 15 minutes to be served. Very average, potatoes were good, biscuit appeared to be canned and the grits were awful. We will not go back for breakfast. I feel bad, the people were very friendly and nice.
